She based wanted to hear her own opinion be validated by someone who has a bigger influence in the world than her menial, self proclaimed virtuous mindset of values. Whereas she is a great example of what he was talking about.
She wasn’t seeking any actual conversation to the dilemma in her question but wanted to seem morally superior in her own mind to make an excuse for herself for not doing anything worthwhile to help the society she is assumed to have great concern for.

I learned this while growing in my field. On the entry level I did notice a lot of problems and had a strong opinion about them but as I started climbing I started seeing the complexity of the problems, how intertwined they were with other factors and how my naive solutions would fix one issue and create 10 more.
Most activitists have childish views - they see the world as ruled by an evil king and they believe that replacing the evil king with a good king will solve everything. So that's the go-to solution - replace who currently makes the decisions with someone they think is "good". But good rarely means competent and good even more rarely stays good once in power.

That's absolutely right, but what do you do about it then? How long should people for example wait bevor voting. The official age is 18. In order to understand everything important going on in the world, informing yourself while having a life, a job etc you would have to be a thousand years old Bevore voting for a political party. "stop big oil" is my hot button. I have seen activists *demand* it, but offer no alternative to getting grocery stores replenished. It's no good to say, "go with EVs" (I like EVs, personally), because if big oil stopped, truckers could only get on EV waiting lists, and that's not the same thing, and that's not replenishing grocery stores (etc.).

The problem is that it takes a tremendous amount of experience to understand just how right Peterson is in saying this, especially the last part about avoiding personal responsibility for things in your own life.
When you have that experience, however, the newscaster's challenge to him looks a lot more like political manipulation of young viewers to maintain influence on pet issues than it looks like genuine advocacy on their behalf or genuine concern for them.
The sad thing is that Dr. Peterson actually gave a decent answer but she was too wrapped up in her hate for him to realize it. Even just the question was pretty stupid.
I'm 75 years old. When I listen to all this 'oh feel sorry for me' stuff from Generation Y and Z I want to vomit. I grew up with nothing as did so many of my generation. I started working at 16 years of age for 75 cents an hour. Yes, some can read what I say as the tired old words of an irrelevant old guy who loves to tell the world, 'We had it tough.'. Indeed we did have it tough, but not as tough as our parents or their parents or any generation previous to them. Somehow the Y and Z generations caught a terrible disease called, 'Feel sorry for me 'cause things are so tough for me.'. Bull! This generation has it easier than any before and like to strike out at anything and criticize anything rather than accept the fact such an large percentage of them are lazy and quitters.

I Love Jordan Peterson. There are so many opinionated perfect people out there and it's all ego based.. One needs humility and a sense of inner security to say themselves, "I am wrong and need to change". We all have an ego but the trick is to become self aware of it. @@sroth2021 well, I think we can handle that. The things that are worrisome are those which are harder to model. Like what will happen to our atmosphere and how that will affect our life. How the increase in fresh water in the oceans (as a result of melting) may affect the global water circulation.
