Rune factory 1: farm to progress to fight an empire and a knockoff elemental dragon.
Rune factory 2: Farm for years to afford your kids education just to have them fight one of the most powerful creatures in the world.
Rune factory 3: Don't farm just forge farming equipment with the range of an orbital strike, then go fishing when your wife disappears
Rune factory 4: You're stand in royalty and still get a the job of a farmer, you may have been scammed by Arthur.

Rune factory has always been my favorite serie and I'm sooo happy seeing more and more people cover it since 4 has been so appreciated and there's been sort of a renewed interest with the new games going out. I received the rf1 on my birthday as a kid I was like 7 or 8 years old not sure and since then I've been playin all entries as they've been out. So I really hold it close to my heart and I'm super happy seeing people share content about it, hope you keep it up!

Since i played all the games in order i didn't saw most of these problems and it didn't bothered me so much. Until i decided to play it again after i finished the others and, oh boy, you do miss a lot of mechanics that your didn't even paid attention while playin the others. So i guess the good side of replaying it, is that it really makes you figure out how much this franchise has evolved throughout the years.

I realy like this game, in fact, it's my favourite game of all time. Partly nostalgia, but I was also so intrigued by the lore and aethstetic of it when it came out. Presonally, the later games lose some of what I like and replace them with tired, generic anime tropes.

Rhetorical question: Wouldn't going back to Rune Factory 1 be fun?
Yes, but you SUPER have to know what you're getting into and you need the right mindset. I'm having a lot of fun with my playthrough, but I'm also went to it from RF4 and am playing it while thinking about what they were doing with it in relation to the HM games that were coming out at the time and what they kept/got rid of. It's an it's an interactive lesson in the history of game design.

Ohh, also this game was my entry point into the series, but I got it when it was brand new, so all of the systems were new and interesting to me, even the Jank stuff. You have to remember that this came out at a time when the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games were having a bit of an identity crisis. This game was very much like going back the Harvest Moon games on the Gamecube and GBA but with a few added systems.

Thank you for making this gem of a video! I wish more people would talk about the game, it was among my favorites as a kid and I'm on a mission to bring it back to life without the incredibly-aged baggage found in the original. We need more people critiquing the game.

Rune Factory 1 is the first to be a "Shin Bokujo Monogatari" or "A Fantasy Harvest Moon" to appeal to HM fans, they buffed up the importance of farming. But it did hold up and got success, after that I heard the producer wanted to break away from Harvest Moon, since being a "Fantasy Harvest Moon" initially a Collab and to grab players from an existing fandom. After RF got success, it builds its own fanbase. However the name "Fantasy Harvest Moon" still stuck to this day. RF2 was tedious in the first generation, the main idea is to gather money and materials. RF3 is when you didn't feel like the need to farm hard because RF3 is the baby boy (as it's the last in DS, RF4 is in 3DS) and many new loots appeared in RF3, the only time we're urged to actually do something about farming (lore-wise) is for those pesky statues in the cave.
Honestly, I love all of em. Raguna (RF1) is the foundation of the series and the establishment of the special existence that is "Earthmates". Though I played RF3 first and it honestly prevented me from actually enjoying the former 2 games (I nearly puked out of irritation because of the control), I love the two games for what they are. Honestly, I can't dislike any of them because I already loved RF3 to bits, it's my childhood.

As a huge fan of RF5 I also went back and purchased all of the early DS games in the rune factory franchise and oh boy hahaha I had the same struggle. The mechanics that I took forgranted in rf4 hurt so much in rf like holding a button to run oh my oh my hahaha but I definitely didn't finish the game although I did get in about 20hrs and had a pretty good time overall after getting used to some things.
    Do I regret the purchases?
No not at all because of my love for the series overall I'm happy to say I have 1-5 and hope to eventually play frontier and tides of destiny ♥️
Happy to find a video such as this that does a full run down and shows love for the series!

Rune Factory is my first RF game to play and still a great favorite, almost tied with Frontier. All I knew about it was that it was a fantasy Harvest Moon game. I loved HM before the break up. My first was HM64. Still a favorite. So I was eager to try RF1 out. Not sure what to expect. Intro music video and I already fell in love. Started game and I was hooked for life. The art, the music, was more beautiful than anything else at the time. Well...
to me it was anyways. You mentioned no dashing? Yes, there was. But there's a problem with DS's. That dang top R button breaks and doesn't work properly. I actually had to buy an extra DS and jury rig the R button so it would stay down in a permanent dash position so the button wouldn't break, making it impossible to play game if it did so. I would only use this DS for this specific game. Still, they wear down and I had to get new DS's, lol.
Trading? No online, true but as you said if have a friend, or an extra DS and extra copy of this game yourself, which I do specifically for trading purposes, then trading is no problem. Extras are worth it. The only one I couldn't do trades on anymore was RF3. Extreme dissapointment as there were some incredible stuff you could get through trading. *Sigh* I even bought extra copy for trading too. Darn. And as far as food goes. Curry is best. Royal curry? I think it's called. But maybe you don't know since Frontier you didn't use flowers but in RF1 you could eat flowers for rune in RF1. Between flowers and the medicinal drinks, a big help. Especially since you could use that spell to replenish your HP. Something I wish they had kept in for Frontier. Especially when fighting bosses.
Also, hard to get money? Once your hammer was leveled up you could make a crazy ton of money from mining jewels. Especially the diamonds in Clemens cave. I always had too much money. BTW, first tool to start leveling? The axe. That will be tremendous help early on. And that annoying having to wait a whole season to get something from Ivan? Like the fridge? Well, you can get that the first day. You can also clear your field of debri without losing time.
For my first day guide read it in comments below.

    • @SkitSkat674
      @SkitSkat674 3 роки тому +1

Oh, actually, don't put rocks and weeds and plants you picked in the shipping bin. You'll need the extra money for later. When you finish the meeting Mist bit and you follow her to the new farm, when you arrive there do not talk to Mist. Before you talk to Mist time is paused. After you talk to her time resumes. Use the paused time to ready your field. Pick all the colored grasses and other plants. Save them for later use. Or sell them. The weeds, alive and dead can be shipped. The small rocks can be shipped as well. But first day? Save them all for later. Don't ship them yet. Do not ship the branches. You can save those to chop later. Early on every bit of wood helps. After clearing a far corner (I usually do lower right) carefully put one branch down at a time in rows. Be careful not to accidentally throw them or try to place one on top of another or you will lose the whole stack.
Once you have cleared as much as you can, finally talk to Mist and start the tutorial phase. When done and you are free emediatly run into house and save, then run-up to first row of the town. Press R button if using DS. I do not know what to push for other versions of this game. Turn right to far end where stairs are to the beach. Go to beach, lol, and run up the beach towards the house. Do not try to go in. Turn right and go to end of dock. You'll meet Sabrina and get a fishing pole from her. Do not fish at dock. You will not make enough money. It's time consuming but better off to make a mad dash for home. Go past your home to left and cross bridge. Keep going left and you'll find a ruin in a lake by cave. Go onto pathway like fallen column and start fishing until about 5:30pm. Make a mad dash to first row in town again and enter the inn to right in front of you. Sell all the fish and garbage and everything else you have. You need 2,000g. Hopefully you'll have a little more than that. Exit the inn and continue up through the middle road to third town row. You'll see what look like robots making an arch. To the left of those is Ivan. If you got 2,000g or more then buy the small kitchen and the small fridge from him. Rest of day you can work on tilling field and planting the seeds you got from Mist. If you didn't get the 2,000g then you'll have to start over. Kitchen and fridge are absolutely essential to get now or you will waste a lot of precious time. It won't come back for a whole season. On the first day.
There is a strategy guide for this game. If you can find one somewhere like eBay then I suggest buying it. There is a checklist of everything you need to do for each season. I make copies and then get as much of all of them done before I need too, lol. Easy when I can get so much money.
More notes, while it is important to build up watering can, do axe first and then hammer. For those who don't know, get your tools from villagers. Talk to Bianca and get axe from Tabitha. Till and plant 6 fields in carmite cave to get hammer from the blacksmith.
Also, may I suggest looking up walkthroughs(strategyguides) online for game help? Look up guides by Freyashawk. She is the best and most thorough writer of guides for Harvest Moon and Rune Factory games. She was even asked to write the official strategy guide for Tree of Tranquility.
Check out her work and happy playing.
BTW, I subscribed so I could check out your RF videos. Hopefully you'll try Harvest Moon games, lol.
And cool, Minecraft. Love that game too.

Ngl. I played RF3 first since it's the first one I found from the series and absolutely LOVE it. I'm enchanted by it and fell head over heels to Micah's characterization. After I finished it, I set out to have the other two. It ends in... quite a disappointment to the young me.
I can't stand RF2's slow story advancement and choice of bride, I'd rather marry Carmen or Collette from RF3 (my least fav bachelorettes) than to marry 90% of the girls there, that's how boring they are all. The ones that caught my eyes are Yue and Alicia. I walked here and there, beating monsters and searching for a way past that dang fences, went to wiki and found out I would never be able to go there for the rest of my life as Kyle. And I hate Mana, so marriage is the least of my concern at the start of the game (which is really slow. I had to wait for the rest of the village to wake up with me? In RF3, at least I have a lot of distraction.)
I switched to the first RF and was absolutely thrilled to see the arts, it's pretty and not broken to bits like RF2. I was ready to play it when the control revealed itself as being and absolute wank. I gave up after two minutes trying the control. Maybe I'll play it again someday but not in near future.

Rune factory 1 has some Git Gud elements not much talked about. Everyone always prefers short swords and shields as it's the easiest playstyle. Defensive boosts thanks to a shield. Less close up vulnerability due to being able to strike faster. But other weapons like 2H provide offensive boosts and range that needs to be utilized to succeed! Slashing twice then repositioning to both dodge and set up your range! The other weapons are pretty much the same. I feel like spear SUCKS! No offense!

no one realizes how broken the Heaven Asunder 2 Hander really is, RF1 has these elemental stats, and they add to the damage, Heaven Asunder has massive Wind and i think water element bonuses, you can easily deal 999 damage with its charge attack, its extremely busted but almost no one uses crafting.

I would say it’s mid tier, not low or high.
I was excited to be royalty but felt I was pushed into a closet. I felt that element wasn’t as fleshed out as well. RF3 were-xxx theme was throughout the game in characters, world design and even in gameplay. In RF4 I got a cute butler dude and… the order system. The farm and home was not royal and yet also not something I “built up” or cozy. I hoped I would have upgrades for either but was disappointed.
I thought the characters were fine, but none of them were favorites. But good.
Difficulty wasn’t enough for me after playing 1-3. (There’s a hard difficulty on switch port which I’m on the edge of buying)
      It’s a solid game. I’d give it a 7.5. In comparison:
      RF3: 9.5
      Frontier: (JP) 10 (US) 9*
      RF1: 8
      RF: 7.5
      RF2: 7
