I love your RF series- super excited for your review on 3! Though a quick note: Tori being named Tart isn't a mistranslation, the actual mistranslation was RF1 naming her Tori! Her name in Japanese is トルテ/Torute, which people tend to translate as either Tart or Torte (hence the use of both names in Frontier, which I'm guessing was an oversight lol), XSEED's localization team just translated it correctly. I personally think that RF1's localizers felt Tart/Torte was too uncommon or weird of a name, since a few other characters got their names changed as well (Lana used to be Lapis, Zavier's name translated much more closely to Sacher, the De Saint-Coquilles had an entirely different family name- Jasper in particular was named pretty differently, with his name in the original game being Jakorinusu Eraruko Viviāju- etc), and decided to name her something Western players might find more familiar. I'm not sure why they only fixed Tori's/Tart's name though, and later RF games tend to stay pretty loose with translations anyway (Raven in RF3 was originally named Toona, for instance).
that's super interesting and informative! guess it makes sense that XSEED translated it correctly and Natsume went with a different name. i think ill pin this since i have a whole bit in the video of me making fun of what i once thought was a "mistranslation"
Oh dude I DEVOURED your review! You structured it with such care to detail + it was really easy to follow even though I didn't really look at the screen most of the time. I'm mentioning this bc most reviewers don't really get that much into the details when describing their love for a certain series besides of it being "cool" ect. As for someone who enjoyed Frontier a LOT more than RF4 when I was a teenager this really grounded me lol. I probably have to replay this game on dolphin like u did for solely getting a look on it from a 2023 perspective - I didn't even some parts of the plot you've mentioned so this could be interesting. Anyways, I'm very much looking forward to your other reviews because this was such a blast. Thanks for your work :)

I'm so happy about these reviews. I keep replaying the videos all the time, thank you so much. But seeing the graphics makes me a bit sad. It looks so on piint for the rune factory aesthetic and I wish RF5 had the same style.
love the game. Still replaying it now, as I've been replaying the series to get to RF5 like you said gameplay left alot to be desired. Biggest complaints are the damn runey system becomes a real painful chore. It takes more than a hundred or so days till your kid grows up. certain crafting materials like Crystals are way wayy too rare. The Plot itself had me constantly looking through the wiki on what the hell to do/ where to go. Eh it being Rune Factory, i'll still love it regardless and as far as i know it was their first try at a somewhat 3d world so i'ma give it a pass.
Other than the Runey system. It's a genuinley great game. Graphics are pleasant as well, much better than their recent go, it ran well on the Wii also. Maybe one day they could port it and the Oceans one as a bundle to Switch.
Frontier is that one game i really wish Marvelous and XSEED would make a remaster port for the switch or pc. Fixing fps issues, faster animations, and deleting the awful runey system. It's seriously a shame this game is only available on wii. And yes, I know i can play it on dolphin but i really do prefer a legitimate safer way to play it as well.
It's apart of the later parts of the story. So if you want to play it how its supposed to be played then use the harvester. Its not supposed to be easy.
RFF was my entry point to this series way back in 2009/2010 after making the jump from Harvest Moon. I logged in so many hours into this game. It’s my favorite Rune Factory for sure, even with its flaws. I still believe it’s the best looking RF game out there, and has aged better than Tides of Destiny and 5, despite both of them releasing years after. Guardians of Azama finally beats it though (but it’s unreleased at the time of this comment). But I LOVE this cast of characters, and they compete with RF4 for the best ensemble cast. I love talking to so many villagers in this game. I wonder how they picked the 6 bachelorettes from the first game. I would’ve loved to see Lynette and Sharon make an appearance.
I played rf 1,3 and frontier Frontier was my first rf game i saw it in a club nintendo club and i fell in love with that game the colors, theme, and voices (even i dont understand all) i think is still my favorite, am waiting a fan translate to spanish For rf 4 S. And Mist is my best waifu
Unpopular opinion: I love the runey system. Yes when I was a kid I didn't understand it, it was to complicated for my small brain. But now? I love having a small note-book next to me to count my runeys and feel satisfied by how I maneged them. 10:06 At first I was like "Who TF is this?" ande then I look it up... Yeah I never really try Tabatha's story, I spent all my parties on either Uzuki (never finish the last quest tho) or Kross This game was my first JRPG game and I loved it. I'm currently looking for a way to play on my wii without a TV screan It was a really good review and I overall agree with what you said. Continue like that! I've only played this one and RF5 of the series, but I liked this one better of the 2! I would say that the art style is very charming; the image at the end of your video is really reflected in the final aesthetic of the game. The town and area were nice and cosy (unlike RF5) imo, I would argue that this game has quite some personality into it in comparison. Additionally, the intro song is something I always look fondly back at. Like the title, the game sure could use some fixes but I enjoyed it a lot during my 2nd gameplay a few years ago. The runey system was difficult during my 1st playthrough but hey, I was a young kid back then knowing some basic english and couldn't comprehend that much. 2nd playthrough was easier for sure; that's pretty much a given tho by me having become a completionist, perfectionist, and a planning person as an adult now. Finished the whole game - story-line, full friendship and events, and marriage - over the span of a week of holidays is something I wouldn't have been able to as a kid haha Anyway, ty for the review (nicely organised as well). It's nice to look back at the game again and I personally hope they get the same vibe again for the new entry of the series.
Great video! The only RF i played so far, despite its flaws i still think about it time from time. I really, really wish you could marry the boys. Kross' personality especially meshes very well with Raguna, bringing up Goon's cheerful attitude and making him less bland as a result and out of all characters, Kross seemed like one that actually needed a friend around. I also really wanted to marry the elf smith woman and I have no idea why you cant. This game is discriminating against gays and milf :/
Nice to see a new review in 2022. I genuinely really, really liked Rune Factory Frontier; all the way up till I had to manage the runeys in every region. The gimmick took up enough of my time in game that I started dreading having to keep those things balanced out, and eventually I just stopped playing it; the game having lost the fun. I think this could have been a real classic for the series without that mechanic and I feel that more people would have probably gotten into the series overall if it had simply been left out. Also, another fun fact about Iris, Blanche and Noir are both french for White and Black, respectively. She was named about as literal as possible.
