Thanks for the review! I've been looking into the Ikki68 since I'm interested in the r2 group buy. You're the only one who mentioned about the tilt and the stabilizer concerns. Very helpful information.
I'll probably come back to this video when the R2's actually start arriving.. but from taeha's stream he didnt seem to have too much trouble with the east/west facing switches. it is a concern that I have but after seeing some builds i decided to opt in for the R2
@@gerryramosftw I read what you said wrong, I thought you were saying you were going to wait to buy R2 till people started getting their R2 long after the GB. I'm going to grab one as well.
Ayus hehe. Charcoal din ako pero ang naisip ko ung e-white top kunin para pwede mag palit depende sa keycap set. Pero baka weird itsura paired with charcoal bottom. So napaisip ako kung buong Aurora Snow kit na lang ba kunin ko wahahaha
I'm a bit torn on the colourways, I'm not a fan over the R1 colours. I really want to get one but I'm not sure if I'd be happy if I got a colour that I don't like.
Hmm i have the r1 and pretty satisfied with it, planning on getting the balck alu top and poron kit. Still torn on whether or not i should get the new fr4 plate, bodo pcb and stabs.
Great and really helpful summary. I was actually quite tempted by the wireless option -- but the flexy side of things is also tempting, mostly because none of my boards are very flexy at all! Am I talking myself into potentially getting both PCBs?? 😅
I really think this is an awesome attempt at entry level custom boards. Overall it's great for the hobby. However, there are too many concerns I have with this board that turn me away from purchasing. Thank you for expressing some of the concerns I had and bringing some new ones to my attention. I think for R3, if they chose to do one, they should focus on stab compatibility, and bring down some of the compatibility on the pcb/plate to assure all switches are oriented in the same direction and supported better on the on the plate. There is a lot to love about this board but also a lot to improve.
I just ordered one of the fr4 plate extras lol which is weird because these are extra boards from r1 yet they have fr4 plates up and PC plates I missed out on the PC plate lol
Yeah it seems like this is going to be run repeatedly much like the KBD67 Lite. Not sure what they can do to definitively fix the E/W switches though other than just not doing the multi-layout thing but that's unlikely since it's one of their main features.
I'm gonna pass on the Ikki in favor of the KBD67 lite. The issues you've encountered with the Ikki would definitely bother me. It also helps that the KBD67 lite will have in-stock units on black friday, so I can get it a lot sooner. Great video as always 👍
Went for an iceland bluetooth build, I wish it had the flex cuts on thr pcb as the bodo but I am hopeful that I can get enough flex out of it due to the 1.2mm pcb adn the flex cuts on the PC plate. I will be opting in for the poron dampening kit as well bc I feel it would help with the flex as it is less dense/weight than the silicon plate pad.
From what I've seen the gaskets are already pretty thick. Coupled with the big space in the case, it looks super bouncy. But I will be modding it further. Probably just for sound hehe
Doesn't feel cheap by any means, even better with brass plate and weight (mine got 1.5kg). I had groupbuys of 400usd and polycarbonate and just feel the same way...but cnc polycarbonate is another story
Black alu top, 05 pcb and pom plate for me, but actually i have considered to get a snow ikki since it would nice with kuroshiro and hyperglide mx blacks on that flex
Oof sounds super clean. Tempted by that e-white alu top too since I have a charcoal case. I could go for black or white depending on the keycap set hehe
Perfect timing for the video! I was just about to checkout just the new Bodo PCB and PC plate. I didn’t know about the stab compatibility issue. 😅 Have you encountered interference issues with the north-facing spacebar switch and gmk keycaps?
Thanks for the review! You should also mention it's real state that it is longer than traditional 68 keys like the kbd67 and the spacebar with the sideways causing interference
Thanks for your thoughts! The Ikki looks so beautiful imo, I might join they're R4-5 in the future, hopefully the east-facing enter key can be fixed by then haha.
yo, you buy a whole keyboard right? Like with switches, stabs and stuff like that or just the case? cuz it's the only thing i have been seeing, people just build of a case.
r1 was a tray mount, not gasket. take the top off and see how the plate rests on top of the screw guide posts and not the gaskets on the chips. everyone got fooled thinking they have a gasket budget board.
I did note in my review of R1 that there's really not that much room for the PCB+plate assembly to move around in there. I don't know if I'd call it a tray-mount though. All of the contact is around the perimeter of the plate, whether it's gaskets or the case making contact so there at least aren't any stiff spots in the middle during typing. And R2 hasn't changed the mounting so whatever you want to call it, it's the same mounting hehe
Thanks for this update/follow up video man! Sadly, i tried mounting an east or west facing on my pipe key with JWICK Yellow and my epbt abs keycaps and it did made a slight cracking. I guess i'm moving away from ABS keycaps for this since from what i see my abs keycaps cracks more easily than my pbt ones. Also copped up for their WS switches. hopefully that combo with my upcoming epbt timeless keycaps can fit. and yes. copped up now for the Ikki68 snow since i missed R1. Probably would just get extras from R3 if ever they do and i hope they can really make it backwards compatible with R1 and R2 :D Though probably would be my last keeb purchase as I'm shifting in investing on my coffee equips more haha. Cheers bro!
Oh no sorry to hear about your pipe key. Nice! The Snow looks reeeeally clean. Good luck with the coffee. I almost went down that rabbit hole before I went down keyboards lols
@@CaloysKeyboards yeahh minus points for reselling 😂. Hopeful for R2 still 😅. Was planning for the mode65 but dat was too expensive for me. Can't keep monthly coffee bean upkeep for 3 people at home 🤣
Very informative review. Thanks for making this. 👌🏽

Nice hope you like it! GMK seems pretty resilient with the E/W switches and maybe Wuque made sure their switches would have no problems hehe
Problem With that is by the time R2 start arriving (Q2 2022) the GB will be long done and they'll be out of stock and you'll have to wait for R3.
@@p.e.r.c.y not sure what you mean by this, I already bought the R2

As a fellow R1 owner, I’m only going for the Alu top.
I am a bit concerned with the new PCBs especially for the stabs compatibility.
Nice! Which color alu top?
@@CaloysKeyboards ang inorder ko bro is yung black, kasi yung current board ko ngayon is the charcoal!

Yea they probably should have brought at least Charcoal back. Black and white should be default hehe

Yeah, it's hard to say whether that flex will be worth it unless you have some experience with a similarly flexy board like the Jelly Epoch 😅
Great and really helpful summary. I was actually quite tempted by the wireless option -- but the flexy side of things is also tempting, mostly because none of my boards are very flexy at all! Am I talking myself into potentially getting both PCBs?? 😅
Oh man, if they'd done the flex cuts on the wireless, I'd probably already have bought it lols

Thank you! Yeah for R3 they should just provide a single layout flexy PCB. That would solve pretty much everything hehe
I just ordered one of the fr4 plate extras lol which is weird because these are extra boards from r1 yet they have fr4 plates up and PC plates I missed out on the PC plate lol
Ohh the flexy ones? Nice!
Im curious does anyone know if the default pc plate has the flex cuts or do i have to go onto the add-ons to get the flex cut plates
On the 'What's New' image in the product page, it says that "The new PC plate will be the default plate in R2" 😁
@@CaloysKeyboards thank you!
Im hoping that with the addition of the silicone piece between the plate and pcb, the issue with "\" button will be minimized
oh well i just look at the silicone and it has the exact cut as the plate, so there is still a gap
Yeah, unfortunately, the photos I have here are with that plate silicone 😅
Was debating it. I think I’m gonna skip it until they can fix the e/w switches. There’s bound to be an r3 that’s even better.

Thank you! Can't go wrong with the KBD67 Lite! ☺️
I'm planning on using the ISO layout, is the tilt an ANSI exclusive issue?
Upon checking, the ISO enter does tilt to the left while the pipe doesn't. Both are east-facing.
@@CaloysKeyboards thanks for the response :)

As an R1 owner, defo picking up the poron + PCB + stabs
Nice! Ends today so go check out! 😂
Isn't it a little weird that it only works with their stabs but you have to buy the stabs as an add on
Well, stabs have always been add-ons to the board, even during R1. And, technically, other stabs will work. They just need some janky modding lol
Q1 has thick gaskets? Or will you be modding it?
From what I've seen the gaskets are already pretty thick. Coupled with the big space in the case, it looks super bouncy. But I will be modding it further. Probably just for sound hehe
Is it high quality polycarbonate, does it feel cheap at or anything. Thank you 😁

I talked about interference in the R1 review hehe. No spacebar interference with GMK and Domikey Cherry. Geekark has interference

You're welcome! I did go over those in the R1 review hehe
They should really have a single layout pcb option. TROMSO is da wae.
Tru that. Single layout + 1.2mm + flex cuts would've been perfect
