CORRECTION (sorry for my carelessness):
- shot 9 (at the 12m30s point): If you pocket the 9-ball on a foul shot, you don't lose the game. The 9-ball spots and your opponent gets ball in hand. Also, if you look at the recreated shot frame-by-frame, you will see I hit the 9 first, which is a foul.
- BONUS SHOT (at the 15m51s point): In addition to Efren having a bag on his shoulder, he also had a sandwich wrapper in his shooting hand. I neglected to include the wrapper. Sorry. :(

LMAO at your bag.
I think its a crime to make any pool video without some homage to Reyes.
@@Money4Nothing I’m glad you liked the bag. I agree that Efren deserves frequent homage.
going frame by frame you hit the 9 first
@@willh1655 I assume you are referring to Shot 9 starting at 11:38. When I look frame by frame, it looks like the 2 and 9 and hit at exactly the same time (split hit). We need more frames. Regardless, this shot could not be called a foul because there is no conclusive evidence of a foul.
@@DrDaveBilliards i agree, its very close.. but i did see a frame that clearly shows the 9 move first.. its very subtle.. obviously its not that important, i just wanted to point it out.. and thanks for the content, keep it up

3:10 I laughed when you said “Nothing but net “ . Very funny Dr. Dave . 😂😂😂
I’m glad you liked my little piece of humor.
“Dr Dave says to draw for show and follow for dough” is my favorite quote to call out my pool league buddies with.
If you want to change it up a bit: "Draw for flash, and follow for cash." And if you want other famous quotes, sayings, and maxims, see:
billiards.colostate.edu/maxims/
Enjoy!
Sounds about right to me!
A follow shot is easy to control, but is not that spectacular to most audiences.
However, a draw shot is much more impressive to the unadepts, but far more diifficult for the shooter to control.
@@ThinkerOnTheBus Bingo!
That rail riding 7 ball into the corner belongs onto this list, I almost spit out my coffee in laughter when I saw that. Great video Dr. Dave!
Thanks. I wish I could have planned that one. That would be tough to replicate, by anybody!
rail pool, all shots have to be pocketed by riding the rail in rotation, no jump cues
Chris Melling got one of the straightest and smoothest stoke of all pro players. Its like he is shooting in a narrow tube each stroke. It looks perfect each time he shoots, its just beautiful to watch!
Agreed! Definitely a good role model.
Love the reconstruction of the Efren “bag shot”! However I miss the folded sandwich wrapper that he held in his left hand, which gives an extra dimension to his casualness... 😉 Very nice video series.
I knew about the wrapper in the hand, but I forgot about it when I was filming. My bad.

Wow, just incredible. These pros are phenomenal, just the reason why they are pros. But some of your replications were not too shabby either. Well done Sir!
Thanks!
Com certeza você é o melhor canal de cuesports do mundo!
Dr. Dave, you clearly have the most scientific knowledge about pool and more importantly are able to explain it to others using words.
How much science do you believe the pool greats use and how much is purely intuition. Do you think the top players run these calculations to get the job done or do their minds work differently.
I’m curious if you have gotten the chance to ask this to any of your top players?
Most top players aim everything by feel using their strong intuition built up by countless hours of successful practice and experience. Nothing can beat that. However, even some pros use systems at times. SVB, Chris Melling, and Ralph Eckert are good examples. I often see them measuring out a tough kick or bank shot.
Great respect for your reproductions, knowledge, patience and instructions that is a gift on it self!

To be honest Shane's jumping kick shot was done on a 7ft table, which imo is much easier to carom the 10 ball into the corner pocket because the 1 and the 10 were much closer. You did a great job!
Good point, and thanks!
Haha you got me on the bag shot
Brilliant, bag too :)
How could you not like the bag? :)
Dr. Dave, the Corey Deuel draw shot required low left English which would help you bring the cue ball back across the table to be right on the 4 ball like Corey. Love your videos!!
I've heard people suggest this before; but when I look at Corey's shot, it seems clear to me (based on the CB reaction off the cushion and the sidespin clearly visible near the end of the shot) that he had a touch of outside (right) with the massive amount of backspin. The real trick is to have really slick conditions like Corey faced on that table.
Shot 4: Corey Deuel's stroke is un like any other since that man always had the most creative power draws ever
Yep. That’s his thing.
Dr. Dave I love your channel. I was APA level 4 but havent played since Covid started. Outside of watching tons of pool videos, is there any other activity that can help stave off rust or regression?

Hi, What a great vid. You have a new subscriber, but I do have a question. In your opinion do these pro players get these shots first time because they play similar shots regularly and these are just a shot type in their arsenal or are their pool/snooker brains able to calculate all the variables even if they have never played a similar shot before? Going to look for your other top tens now.
I'm glad you liked it, and thank you for subscribing. The pros make these shots for many reasons:
- they are good.
- they have practiced similar shots before.
- and everything else listed here:
billiards.colostate.edu/faq/advice/pro/
Hey Dave, don’t take this question the wrong way, because I’m not being sarcastic or anything.. but you seem very well versed in the game and very talented and knowledgeable about when to use which shot when etc etc.. So what do you personally think separates you from the high end professionals like for instance Pagulayan and the rest of the lot?
All the stuff here:
billiards.colostate.edu/faq/advice/pro/
haha the bag :)
good one
Efren’s bag must have some magic in it. 🤔
I have got a lucky shot before. Hop shot, bank shot, and even jump shot!!
“Nothing but net” Never seen more rail in my life. Funniest line I’ve heard in a while.
I’m glad you liked it.
I admire the Doc all the more knowing Efren is his hero.
16:42 😂😂😂
A bag on the shoulder and a food wrapper in Efren's left hand plus the pressure from the people watching.
... nothin’ but net. :)
You were trying the Shane jump kick carom on a 9 footer !!! The video shows Shane on a 7 footer... whole different ballgame... i bet if you tried it on a barbox you’d be able to replicate it
Good point. Things like this are a bit easier on a smaller table.
You know, I think I know you were able to replicate the pool balls placement shown on the tournament video...THE DIAMONDS and stuff. As well as the pool table view from the top view.
It is tough to be perfect with limited camera angles, but I did my best. It would have been much easier if there were an overhead view for every shot, but there wasn't.
Efren also had a wrapper in his bridge hand while doing his shot. Great video all-around!
My bad. I forgot about the wrapper. Very careless of me. I’m glad you liked the video anyway.
@@DrDaveBilliards I love all your videos. Always great content. I guess I’m just an Efren fanboy, as they say, and pointed that out to make his shot look even better. LOL.
Dave, I also have an Olhausen pool table and find that medium hard shots down the rail to a corner pocket will rattle the pocket and not drop. It’s pocket speed only. After you mentioned this in this video, I looked carefully at the construction and found both sides of the cushion as hard as rock. Doesn’t feel like a cushion at all. Do they manufacture their tables with shims or some kind harder rubber than cushion material ? Does your table play like this all the time?
All tables have pocket “facings.” What makes the pockets rattle are the facing angles and deep shelf. For more info, see:
billiards.colostate.edu/faq/table/tdf/
Thanks for this info ....I’m not just imagining things....your the best....

I've played them very little. They are tough, and I'm not very good.

I don't think so. I am a professional instructor, not a pro player. It takes many things that I don't have to be a pro player:
billiards.colostate.edu/faq/advice/pro/
Well, I believe in you!
Shot #3 He was playing on tight pockets looks like 4 “ . You are shooting it on 4 1/2 or 4 1/4 pockets so it’s easier to manipulate angles.
Tighter pockets require more aiming accuracy, but the action of the shot is no different.
@@DrDaveBilliards 👍 I was talking about the alternative shot, where you said hit with follow instead of the original shot. But you are right..
I think Carlo had that follow shot option available, but it is tough to tell.
With a Pro, who makes a great shot on the first attempt, I never attribute it to luck. At their level, it's all skill!
White's 9 ball shot was against Reyes! How cool is that? He was down 8-7 ) that shot tied it! I wonder who won the match?
When you pocket a very “low percentage” shot in a match situation, a little “luck” is involved. But the better you are, the “luckier” you get.
Can you explain how svb aims with his shaft?
I don't think he actually does it, but it is described here:
billiards.colostate.edu/faq/aiming/shaft-edge/
Top players don't need cut shot "aiming systems." They just "see the angle" and can visualize the required ghost-ball target.

@@DrDaveBilliards i understand... maybe some snooker video and you talking a little bit of the game, physics, ect... i thnik this can be interesting especially to your US fans because they are not that familiar with the game.... and I am sure you have a lot to say..... anyways i hope we will see that video one day and I am glad that you appreciate the game of snooker, a really beautiful(and difficult😥) game....
Best regards to the greatest pool coach on yt
Thanks again!
16:42 lmao 🤣
I'm glad I was able to give you a chuckle. That shot wasn't easy, but it was fun.
Haha ! You even carried a bag while replicating Efren's shot LOL. I love your videos Dave.
I had no choice. That’s what Efren did.
@@DrDaveBilliards just to point out, you forgot the sandwich wrapper in efren’s left hand. he cued holding it in his left hand on that shot..😊
@@fecitim8807 I know. My bad. :(
I didn't know Olhausens are known to play like that. That must explain why I miss so much on mine, right? 🤣
Yep. Now you have a valid excuse from Dr. Dave. :)
I have an Olhausen table, too. I was looking for a new excuse for all my misses, and this one is perfect.
@@kurtkensson2059 I am happy to oblige. :)
@@DrDaveBilliards I guess it was *just what the Doctor ordered.*
@@kurtkensson2059 Yep.
On the Duel draw shot, couldn't you also put in some right English to effectively straighten an even more right cheated pocket, to get a bit more of the cross table travel component? I realize this adds a whole additional level of difficulty, but assuming you could pull it all off, wouldn't it help? And Corey actually pulled across even MORE than necessary to rail first the final object ball.
The Ouschan shot looked easier to me than it turned out to be...though the error margin was certainly tight on return. I didn't think you have that much trouble getting back to the cushion with the cue, though. Bit of a surprise.
SVBs shot is just plain INSANE. I would probably take all day (min) to get one of those to drop. Amazing, but then, he's SVB. The fact that he called it beforehand is GOLD because I don't think most people would have believed that was the plan, even as contingent. A JEWEL of a fin, pinnacle highlight reel stuff. If I were his opponent I'd be forced to clap and congratulate on that one even if it was the match winning shot. He also got REALLY fortunate on the cue ball roll out., hitting the side point
I think even I could complete the Higgin's shot in not too many tries, but I will try it and see. I agree, totally out of place given the other shots included. Cool shot, hilite reel worthy for the day sure, but not remotely 9-10 level difficulty of the rest.
The shot before it, another 'holy crap', surprised you came as close to completing it as you did, in that many tries. That was CLOSE!
Efren doesn't even put the damned bag down, GOOD GRIEF. His cue was VERY close to scratching, too. But since he's Efren, it wouldn't DARE!
I think using sidespin on an highly-elevated, full-table-length power draw shot is much too risky; but if you could pull it off, the swerve could definitely create a bigger cut angle, helping both with the draw (with the right spin on the cushion) and cross-table motion.
Thanks for comments.
LMAO you carried a bag😂😂😂😂 I can't😂😂😂
I didn’t have a choice. Efren had the bag on.
Ride the rail to the corner 😂
Its fascinating how you put it casually as if its something thats normal.
... nothin' but net. :)
Dr Dave … please also take note Efren had a rolled up napkin in his bridge hand. Ps- thanks for all the science- long time fan and student of pool
Yeah. I should have mentioned that. FYI, I did acknowledge it in this later "Top 10 WILD and CRAZY POOL SHOTS of All Time" video:
ua-cam.com/video/JNrBg4mCVAs/v-deo.html
Enjoy!
Lol, you can also pop the 7 and ride the rail for perfect leave. Hysterical.
Maybe this shot should be in a future Top 10 Pool Shots video. :)
I'm no expert, but I was always told the First shot in this video would be consider a Miscue "SCOOP SHOOT". So how is this Legal?
It is illegal to scoop under the CB to cause it to hop. For examples and more info, see:
billiards.colostate.edu/faq/foul/scoop/
However, Alex's shot is a legal jump shot, where the downward hit causes the CB to bounce off the slate. For more info, see the videos and info here:
billiards.colostate.edu/faq/jump/technique/
@@DrDaveBilliards In the videos I viewed showing jump balls, All contact is made above center of the ball. In your illustration the ball is struck in the lower left corner, making contact top hit jump impossible. Is their a Gray Area for Pros?
@@kevinharvey9585 I have several videos showing legal jump draw shots (with backspin), where the tip hits the CB well below center (with no miscue). As long as you don't purposefully scoop under the ball with a miscue, the shot is not a foul.
With all due respect and with a bit of humor I must point out that the best shots of all time necessarily include the future and so these are just the best shots that have happened so far
Duly noted.
It appears that some of those shots were made on a seven foot table, and your are recreating them on a nine footer. That does make the shot slightly different, as I'm sure you are aware.
... very aware, especially when attempting to match the ball layout as closely as possible. Also, the shots are a little tougher on the 9' vs. 7' table.
You missed the sandwich wrapper in efren's left hand while doing the shot
I know. My bad. :(
hit the like when i see the bag
I'm glad I got you on my last try. :)
3:07 what in the hell was that lmao
... nothin' but net!
@@DrDaveBilliards let's reverse things around Doc. Let the pros try the ' nothing but net ' shot and see how'd they do !
@@meravids6740 I like the way you think. That would be fun to see. I suspect even Efren might not replicate this shot after hundreds of attempts. I certainly wouldn't want to attempt to reproduce it. It's called a "fluke" for a reason.
3:04 LOL
Nothin’ but net!
Shadows on the floor tell us how difficult are these shots :D
I filmed over two sessions ... one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Some of the shots took a long time to get through, especially when I kept bumping balls and needed to keep re-spotting them.
Don't forget the napkin in the left hand during Efren's shot. lol
FYI, I corrected my omission in my "Top 10 WILD and CRAZY POOL SHOTS of All Time" video:
ua-cam.com/video/JNrBg4mCVAs/v-deo.html
Can't forget the napkin!
I'm waiting on Efren to make a shot with his eyes 👀 closed. To me it's crazy that they even see these shots. Then have the balls to take the shot. There's ordinary and there's extraordinary most of us are ordinary!
Efren is definitely in a class by himself.
Would love to see him play a game in person. Heck Dr. Dave I wouldn't mind seeing you play in person. You shoot a mighty mean stick!
Thanks!
Dr Dave the dark ale Alex is drinking is most likely actually Guinness seeing as he’s Irish
Makes sense.
Pagulayan says he practices those shots and he can hit it 9/10 times
I believe it.
Incridible that Dr Dave gave up on the Jimmy White shot, but hey..Rollie Williams did it LOL
Anybody can get lucky once, even Rollie. :)
