Yeah unfortunately the North Star has a bad reputation, but if you keep up with your coolant flushes every 2years you can definitely help avoid water pump and head gasket issues otherwise it’s a damn good engine in my opinion because by the 03 to ‘10 engine design GM changed the head bolts into a longer and coarser thread pitch design to help with the head gasket issue due to aluminum stress from heat expansion.
I have the 06 DTS . I had to get the engine pulled out to replace all seals & gaskets. I found an 11 model (platinum) that I want. I am scared that if I sell my 06 & buy the 11 that I will have to do this process all over again.

If you know how to work on these cars and you have the money for it, then sure go for it. Personally though I think A Lincoln Town Car would be a much more suitable option. Cheaper, easier to maintain, and they’re ridiculously reliable too.
The first problem is that it has a Northstar. The second problem is the engine is mounted sideways, so it's impossible to work on. And before you fanboys become triggered, yes, I have owned a Cadillac engine that shares the Northstar's genius architecture. Oil leaks galore. And have fun changing the rear spark plugs.

I'm guessing if it's the water pump you should see water trickling down the lower radiator hose?? Could be a blown head gasket going to pull the dipstick out check the oil and see if there's any foam..
I have an 02 Deville with the crank case leak. And an 08 DTS that's leaking. I haven't inspected where yet, but I assume crankcase. Trying to get a hoist and place to put it.
Wrong, I have 5 Northstar Cadillac's that are completely dry and do not leak and were never resealed. If you think these engines were bad then you haven't been around any of the older Cadillac's from before. Oil leaks were the norm and not always easy to fix.
@@mahpiyahoksila93 car service company supposedly covers all car replacement cost but have a negative BBB review rating a lot of people complain about them.
CarShield is a fraud. I had Carshield for close to a year and a half and used them twice. Both times it was a hassle to get em to pay. I dont recommend them!
Owned a 2007 DTS that I bought special ordered new and owned for 11 years. I put 124,000 miles on it. I special ordered my car to have the adaptive cruise control option, which is rare for this model. My engine started leaking oil after 5 years. The only way to really fix it was to spend $2k+ to remove the engine to replace the leaking seals. I had my mechanic tighten up everything on the engine that he could without removing the engine. I placed mats under the engine to catch the oil and added a quart of oil about every other month. I did this for years. Luckily the car had an accurate low oil indicator sensor that allowed me to monitor this. I also had the problem with rear door latches. The most annoying problem I had with this car was a vibration in the front end at 60-70 MPH. I rebalanced the tires, rotated tires, replaced tires and had the front end aligned and inspected multiple times. After several years I replaced the front wheel bearings and that finally solved the problem. When I went to sell or trade in my car I found that it had virtually no resale value primarily due to the Northstar. GM fixed the head gasket failures in the Northstar by 2006 but the Northstar still leaked oil after 2005. I also owned a 2006 Buick Lucerne with the optional Northstar, which I owned for 10+ years and put 100k miles on it. It also leaked oil. Neither engine failed while I owned them but I will never get the oil stains up from the floor of my garage.
I have a question I just bought a 2007 DTS last month and I'm learning alot about these cars and I been have a issues with the tpms...now I did try the putting it in mode on the dic and the yellow light came on for the front right side first then you deflate till it beats then go to the nex and so on. My problem is when I do the first tire it does beep then I go to the next tire front left and deflate and no beep at all so I took it to the dealer and they fixed it with the tool in like 10 seconds lol but my light is still on and I'm sure it's because of the tire pressure is reading low now here is the issue I go and put air in and the numbers are not moving 2 tires read 27psi 1 reads 27psi and the last reads 38psi but when I put air in the numbers don't go up it's like the tire is not recognizing I'm putting air in.

worst-case scenario try to bypass it with a new switch you can control-but if its a fuse that keeps blowing, check all your wires to ensure there is no opening or damage wires. if you are putting in a new motor and new switch there have to be almost ZERO issues, if you have a dead motor with few hours of new usage....maybe you may have an open wire somewhere for sure, carefully inspect your door hinge areas, your interior panel (deep Door Inspection)... try to do a test on the motor itself to see if it actually works, then the switch and work back to your harness then lastly your fuses. (voltage reader works well)...................Blessings

#2 is almost always an inevitable issue with the Northstar 4.6 and the biggest dilemma is that it usually happens right between 90k and 100k miles. Worst part is that the fix will almost always be more or less equal to the value of the car by then LMFAO. Not just talking from my personal experience with my El Dorado.

They changed it from DeVille to DTS in 2006. 2006-2011 was indeed the first body style of the DTS model. It replaced the DeVille. It was also the last body style for that model. Yes, the previous DeVille's did have a DTS trim package, but the model was still DeVille. Pretty much the same car though for the most part. Some differences other than appearance.
GM is horrible about having the failure modes always in a position where half the car has to be taken apart to repair the car. Oil leaks 75.00 in parts but 1000 or more in labor to fix 😳 Ridiculous. Might as well buy a BMW or a Mercedes and have a top level luxury car. At least then the high cost of repairs would be worth it to have a real premium luxury car. I’m a previous owner of 3 Cadillac’s never again!!!
How did you not include the engine killing head gasket for the northstar? Only way to fix is to remove the engine from the car. Terrible engine design. GM got this one horribly wrong, but they learned and stopped making it.
Head gasket issues weren’t as common in these years. It was a head stud issue, The older generation had the issues. Not so much for the new gens, otherwise an amazing engine!
I'm not saying you're wrong but what would you have to say to the people who've exceeded 200,000+ miles on their DTS.... Maybe the design is bad and not ideal for changing out parts but like but I believe the motor it self run strong.
He didn't mention it because DTS were never more prone to head gasket failure than any others car with aluminum blocs. GM solved the head gasket problem during the 2nd half of 2004 by using longer, bigger head bolts with coarser thread (the same as the LS1, if I remember correctly).
This car sounds like an expensive ticking timebomb. All of those Northstar-related issues have been common since like 1992 when they introduced it. I also don't know how anyone can stomach the fuel costs running premium at 16-21mpg. This car is a great way to burn through a lot of cash.
Bad designing by Cadillac. I have my grandfather 2010 DTS with only 16k miles. I own the car now since he can't drive anymore due to his severe Dementia. I don't even drive it much at all I just keep it in the garage. Probably drive it 3-5 times since I took it over. Even tho no problems, no lights on the dash I just know if I was driving it more here come the costly problems. I might sell it I already too many cars.

I've replaced the water pump like twice the thermostat
The engine does burn oil quick where can I start to try to fix this? I got it with 115k miles and it's almost hitting 185k
I love my dts
Thank you
Love my 03 STS
my '09 DTS leaks ? it has 107,xxx miles. i really like her, but her roadtripping days may be done. I think i get you, let her leak, keep eyes on levels. thanks for sharing this here, and allowing comments too.
Your story is my story bro, leaking oil now like crazy, and it costs too much to get her fixed 🤦🏽♂️
3 guarantees in life
1.Death
2.Pay Taxes
3.Northstar engine will leak oil
I got that power steering leak fixed for $400.
I loved my '09 DTS. Drove it 32,xxx miles in 2 years before I got hit almost head on by drunk driver with priors going wrong way on the interstate, impact at highway speed. i walked away to laugh, cry, and die another day.
Did you fix the leak?? What was the issue?
I have a right rear parking/brake light out,,can i replace bulb or replace entire assembly
Have you used EVANS COOLANT 375 boiling point ???? and I use it in my 1970 454 Monte Carlo one of GM's high heat engine
The main issue I had was I had to do the water pump and the cam shaft 160k running strong
If you guys could do some videos on Kia sedonas that would be cool

Have a question, 06 DTS the transmission oil is disappearing, no leak, an idea, thanks
I own 2010 DTS base model
it is literally pain in the As.s
fuel pump replaced three times
leaks everywhere
bad Ac compressor
and so on
Such beautiful and an amazing ride. The northstar ruins it though.
Thankfully, that attitude keeps them inexpensive for the rest of us.
Those Northstar are notorious for head gasket leaks
That was pretty much weeded by this body style I believe.
Not this version. The previous ones were terrible.
How much to repair head gasket
Not this generation
2011 dts platinum never had a issue orher then stupid ass wheel speed sensors and rear trunk tail lamp led strip
I have the 06 DTS . I had to get the engine pulled out to replace all seals & gaskets. I found an 11 model (platinum) that I want. I am scared that if I sell my 06 & buy the 11 that I will have to do this process all over again.
Damn, i'm #2 right now. It's a 2016 with only 53,000 miles, garage kept. Looking for specific source this week sometime, if she can make it back and forth to work without a tow.
Wow! The car looks good but you look great!!!!! Lol great inf. Thanks
06 DTS, is there a light for ashtray area?
Love my 2011 DTS , Rzeszow
Going into college. Don’t want to get rid of my 2010 dts. But repairs and gas mileage will kill my wallet worse than lones because I am forced to drive 2 hours every day; 1 to get to school, 1 to get home. Such a tough decision, it’s lasted me 10k miles without any problems
Would you find these same problems in a sts?
Overall is this a good vehicle, even for a first car?
If you know how to work on these cars and you have the money for it, then sure go for it. Personally though I think A Lincoln Town Car would be a much more suitable option. Cheaper, easier to maintain, and they’re ridiculously reliable too.
@jaden last name: It was marketed toward 'mature' car buyers with high discretionary income. Probably not a good first car unless you're a GM tech.
Might be about to pick up an 09. Anyone in the community have thoughts about older vs later northstars? Thank you!
what about the head gasket issues..
that is one problem they solved in 2006 with longer and courser head bolt threads........Willie
The first problem is that it has a Northstar. The second problem is the engine is mounted sideways, so it's impossible to work on.
And before you fanboys become triggered, yes, I have owned a Cadillac engine that shares the Northstar's genius architecture. Oil leaks galore. And have fun changing the rear spark plugs.
does the 2011 also have the oil leak problems? i heard they fixed it, that last production year
What to do if I have low oil pressure?
more than 5 things !
Mine has transmission oil fault, any idea what could be wrong?

I have a 2011 cad dts...my telescope steering wheel isn't working I hear the fuse still nothing I don't hear anything when I press the button it doesn't go up or down or in or out.....any suggestions on how or what maybe wrong
I have a man selling a 2005 Cadillac DeVille $1,000 or best offer which he said he replaced the radiator he probably just had a recore now I'm thinking it's either the water pump lower radiator hose I'm going to look at the car in the morning.. any input I would appreciate it. I'm guessing if it's the water pump you should see water trickling down the lower radiator hose?? Could be a blown head gasket going to pull the dipstick out check the oil and see if there's any foam..
How many car you used to own?
Its look like you own every car in the videos you do
Every NorthStar engine ever made has a leaking oil pan. And thats a fact!
I have an 02 Deville with the crank case leak. And an 08 DTS that's leaking. I haven't inspected where yet, but I assume crankcase.
Trying to get a hoist and place to put it.
@Caddy Guy: Check the oil filter adapter housing. That's a common leak point too and a lot cheaper to fix than an engine reseal.
Not mine 2011
@@caddyguy5369 my dts won’t crank they put new gas pump on it worked a week then same thing
Wrong, I have 5 Northstar Cadillac's that are completely dry and do not leak and were never resealed. If you think these engines were bad then you haven't been around any of the older Cadillac's from before. Oil leaks were the norm and not always easy to fix.
Definitely getting car shield for my Dts
What is a car shield?
@@mahpiyahoksila93 car service company supposedly covers all car replacement cost but have a negative BBB review rating a lot of people complain about them.
CarShield is a fraud. I had Carshield for close to a year and a half and used them twice. Both times it was a hassle to get em to pay. I dont recommend them!
I definitely believe 2004 and newer models are the only ones you can trust
I had a ‘01 DTS with the Northstar engine… that was the first generation of DTS
Get rid of it, trust me
Its just ur tire pressure sensor is bad simple fix

For me it was the brake pedal switch....changed it and had it recalibrate all work fine now
I ordered a radiator and paid 207.00 for it but I have not received it yet
i have a 92 deville with only 50 thousand miles, was thinking about trading up for an 06 or newer but now i don't think i will
I have problem whith the windows for 2 time, don’t work, the mecanic change cables between door and bodyframe but the problem continue.
worst-case scenario try to bypass it with a new switch you can control-but if its a fuse that keeps blowing, check all your wires to ensure there is no opening or damage wires. if you are putting in a new motor and new switch there have to be almost ZERO issues, if you have a dead motor with few hours of new usage....maybe you may have an open wire somewhere for sure, carefully inspect your door hinge areas, your interior panel (deep Door Inspection)... try to do a test on the motor itself to see if it actually works, then the switch and work back to your harness then lastly your fuses. (voltage reader works well)...................Blessings
What does it cost to replace bottom half engine oil gasket.
I have an 2006 DTS and another issue is the tire low pressure sensor goes bad, mine was replaced when the car was almost new. and now its gone bad again.
maybe its just mine...
I had the oil leak problems from the oil pan gasket and timing chain gasket. Cost me $2800 to fix 😣 Cadillacs definitely not for the weak. If u don't have money to fix them or not a mechanic u maybe want to stay away 😹
What year?
$2800 sounds like a normal service call for a BMW or Audi.
I own a 06 Dtl , overheating my husband replaced 3/4of the engine and kw he think it's the freezepluges. Could that be a problem why it stop running it go for a time cut off. What is this car doing to me,? Sign confused and sick I love my car

06 dts wont crank just makes a click and dash lights flicker and radio works also lights work but wont turn over could it be. Abad relay or like i was thinkin something to do with starter???
Don't know if u had it fix...but look at the ground wire under the hood it's below the fuse box black thick wire may need cleaning and replace
Issues my 08 Cadillac DTS has at the moment.
Cylinder 4 misfire
Trans fluid leak near passenger side
Wet front passenger floor
Plugged moonroof drain tubes
Door lock actuator malfunction
3 out of the 4 window don’t work.
Service stability sensor goes off
Stability track control continuously goes off.
I’ll be sure to buy parts from 1A auto when the time comes.
How many cars has he owned?!
How much I have this issue
Only worrying one is the water pump honestly. Those mostly seem really mundane.
I found one super clean only 70000 Km on it 7500 Canadian maybe I can get it for 6 v8 4.6 litter grey colour just looks sick and I’m very into old cars I just wonder how is the comfort in this anyways long story short I was looking at this car on Kijiji and loved it maybe I can get it for 6k with only 70000 Km on it I wonder how is reliability and how is comfort from 1 to 10 this car I’m not very familiar with American cars but I do love them and I’m starting to get into American cars I’m from Iraq so in Canada I wanna support North American products and I want them to be great again they are good now days changed a lot but anyways the more people support them the better cars they can make and I was always into American cars is just reliability however after 2015 American cars became really nice and good and advanced so long story short my heart still goes into old cars some cars were reliable some weren’t now most are reliable but before some were good some weren’t and I wonder how this car is sorry for long message lol I like to go into details hehe
too good to be true. get real.
That's the very last generation of Deville Touring Sedan DTS.
Definitely not the 1st.👍🏾
They changed it from DeVille to DTS in 2006. 2006-2011 was indeed the first body style of the DTS model. It replaced the DeVille.
It was also the last body style for that model.
Yes, the previous DeVille's did have a DTS trim package, but the model was still DeVille.
Pretty much the same car though for the most part. Some differences other than appearance.
DTS means Deville Touring Sedan so this car is essentially a Deville
@@caddyguy5369 no they didn't, because my dad has the very first one that was released in 05, so what we have here is definitely the last gen.
2006-2011 is actually 2nd generation DTS.
Mercedes and BMWs have many issues when they get to a similar age and their values fall similar amounts due to the cost and likelihood of repairs
Don't forget about the Cadillac converter
What about converter....I had code...but put cats clean in it.
It’s actually called a catalytic converter
How did you not include the engine killing head gasket for the northstar? Only way to fix is to remove the engine from the car. Terrible engine design. GM got this one horribly wrong, but they learned and stopped making it.
Head gasket issues weren’t as common in these years. It was a head stud issue, The older generation had the issues. Not so much for the new gens, otherwise an amazing engine!
@@DMoney505 An amazing engine that they stopped making on 2011 and haven't made a similar one since
I'm not saying you're wrong but what would you have to say to the people who've exceeded 200,000+ miles on their DTS....
@Joe Rubbo: Just flush the coolant according to schedule and use the dexcool. The headgasket problem wont happen.
This car sounds like an expensive ticking timebomb. All of those Northstar-related issues have been common since like 1992 when they introduced it. I also don't know how anyone can stomach the fuel costs running premium at 16-21mpg. This car is a great way to burn through a lot of cash.
Im swapping out my Northstar with a ls4 5.3 it's cheaper more durable and I can work on it before drop.
If you can make it fit. My caddy doesn't even fit a 5.0 coyote properly
We owned a 2002 DTS, it was most definitely a 1st gen car.
Where are you ?? Thanks
Wow been looking for a platinum forever r u selling it
