I loved it and very much enjoyed every trip I made in that car. Thanks for reviewing Cadillacs. I have driven Cadillacs ever since 2002. Currently, I have a Ford Mustang Mach-E and a Cadillac XT4 Premium. For a few weeks I had only the Mach-E; however, I just simply had to have a Cadillac in the garage beside my Mustang, it just didn't feel right without at least 1 Cadillac in my garage.

Car will take care of you if you take care of it. Once that northstar starts overheating and leaking oil you’ll be holding onto your pants for the quote of repair for engine. Had my 2nd DTS LuxIII for 6 years engine ended up taking a poop and I tossed it. Great cars when they have no problems. I can name a list problems with the DTS
I love my dts. Most issues i.e. the return hose for the coolant reservoir can be fixed with a little imagination. To all those haters that slander the Northstar I say phoey. I changed my starter in 39 min with hand tools and going in blind to show my son not to believe everything you see on the net. the water pump was a lil tough but doing it once if I had to do it again it knock it out way faster. I love my car if you own one you should to. P.s. I bought mine with 150k from a junk man that was taking it to the salvage yard for 600 bux that I just happened to have in my pocket ...
Thanks James for the great video! I purchased my 08 DTS last December from the original 97 yo owner. She purchased it new when she was 83yo. Garage kept with only 41,000 miles. It's gold with the butter creme leather interior. Everything works and she only had it maintenance at our local Cadillac dealership and I have all the records. I've named her Phyllis. I've enjoyed driving the car as a weekend Sunday driver and for special occasions. Thanks for showing me the additional port on the bottom of the front seat, never knew it was there. Something I've noticed is how wide the front doors open out. I wonder if that is to accommodate walkers and wheelchairs? 🙂Thanks for sharing and I enjoy all your videos!!
If I were looking for a great used car it would be a DTS just like that one, I do like that it's a comfortable car, it's everything anyone would want, as always you do great reviews on the cars you enjoy driving!!
I always enjoy your content. Among the 13 or so Cadillacs I've owned since 1976, the DTS's were the best. I held on to my 2009 as long as I could, as I waited for an alternative to the XTS, the next logical trade. Skipped over that model and waited. Finally was able to own a CT6, which is certainly NOT the flagship that the DTS proved to be. Lots of electronic wizardry and features, but certainly not the ride of a DTS with that wonderful Northstar. Again, thanks for your channel!
Cadillac has gone the route of BMW, aiming for performance over luxury. But to be fair, most people who want big roomy luxury cars go for SUVs these days. I would buy a CT5-V Blackwing in a minute if I could afford it.
@@BobSmith-said No problems here, though to be fair, I only bought them new and always traded before the factory warranty expired. Yes, I've read that the Northstar was a problem for 3rd and 4th owners with high mileage . . .
Back in 2008, I rented a DTS, in the same color as yours, for a trip through Utah. Your comments about its V-8 engine versus V-6s in other luxury cars was spot on. There's no substitute for its low-end torque and smooth quiet operation. Great video as always.
Yup it's nice to have some decent acceleration without having to totally put your foot into it. Besides the new smaller motors with start stop, direct injection, later adding port as well to clean the valves. Many adding turbo to boot further adding pressure to the engine paired with thin oil. Often running really efficiently for 100k maybe then the potential for massive repair/maintenance to keep going increases considerably.
I was surprised how cheap all the switchgear looked, but you sold me on the comfortable seats and ride and handling. Going to dump my Lexus ES and get a later model DTS. Love your channel and your kind disposition. The cutaways to the details you’re describing are great. I don’t think folks realize how much extra setup work and editing that requires. Keep up the great work, my friend!
Trust me you will love the car, people say bad things about them, but a good one really grabs you, you end up mad you sold it and every owner ends up wanting to get another one, so just take care of it and you will fall in love with it , especially the strong mild bold sound they make when you go, they are very reliable other than what they have said about the overheating which you just have to put only recommend coolant and keep the oil changed, and use 93 octane and they are the best, they have much comfort and good feel when going down the road, they even got that classy look all clean and well kept, they look nice in most colors, they are good in snow far as traction they feel sturdy in the rain, they feels really good on the highway to so just go ...
@@ResetDoitAgain thatright, thank you ... Good luck, try an find you some nice vogue tires to put on it, they really bring them out, still classy not to much , or over done, on any color, especially like a silver or pear white one smh , yeah I got to find me another one soon .... Thanks
I have a 2010 DTS premium collection and boy I'll tell you it's one heck of a nice car leather beautiful, lots of power, 0 to 60 and 6.7 seconds from that North Star V8 290 horse and one of the things that I found after I had it for a while. Was it plays DVDs in the section? That means I can watch a DVD when I'm parked, waiting for my wife or anyone while they're shopping. Watch a movie in surround sound with the Bose system. Even the guy at GM Cadillac division didn't know that that existed and nor did I. I was shocked. Anyway, it has everything you can think of. Lane warning system blind spot warning heated and cool. Front seats heated and four-way lumbar back seats. I'll tell you this car is one you really have to see and drive to believe super comfortable. Absolutely great highway car weighs over two tons and runs on regular gasoline if you want to. I prefer mid-range and sometimes I'll give it a treat with 91 anyway. Can't find a better car
James, first I agree on the color, wow! very nice. I now have an appreciation for this DTS, glad Cadillac worked out the bugs that plagued the North Star. Think a moon roof would be a nice addition, Enjoyed the body count in the trunk, think two would be a good fit, provided their good friends. Once again, a masterful job on this review, music and quality of your presentation is outstanding! Thanks, Hal
Wanted a DTS since they changed the body style back in 2006...picked up a 2006 Crimson Pearl (red) DTS a week ago with 125k down in Kentucky and shipped it Midwest Cadillac Repair in Palatine, IL to get all sorted out. Sweet Caddy..so smooth yet powerful.
Great review. I had a 2006, LOVED IT! I’ve had 6 Cadillac’s. They all handles beautifully. Had 3 fleetwoods from 91 to ? And all amazing. The DTS handled fantastic easy to drive.
I own a 2007 dts performance and love it! I drove it from northwest Indiana to Central Oklahoma when I moved. those massage seats and magnetic ride control shocks kept me comfortable the whole trip. it does have the Northstar oil leaks, but will never get rid of the car. by the way the bronze color has a color shift effect that got looks the entire way down lol
James is a comedian. Body in the trunk demonstration was hilarious. I used to own a 2008 DTS. It was my daily driver. It was expensive to maintain. Drove well in the snow.
That was funny pulling the man out of the trunk. The DTS, DTS, and Elderado for 1997 were my personal favorite models for Cadillac. This was a very good review!!
Very refined powertrain. The 4T80E is one of GM's better transmissions from the era, and the Northstar makes power so early that you hardly notice the lack of gears. Leave it to General Motors to give the DTS cool white interior lighting, but no push-to-start, while the STS (Cadillac's flagship) gets the exact inverse.
Great review James! I completely agree with everything you said. I own a 2011 DTS and I absolutely love it. I had a buddy of mine ride in it recently, who initially made fun of me for buying it, and who has only owned German cars. He said it's one of the most comfortable cars he's ever ridden in and it "drives so beautifully." I think you are right, the head gasket issues were solved by 2008 and the engine is very smooth and reliable, for me anyway. It has 115k on it and I don't know what I would buy to replace it. You really humanize your reviews about cars, so please keep up your great reviews! Love your channel!
Another great video James. I just sold my 2007 Town Car and after watching this video I realized how far behind in features and tech it was compared to this car. Again great video!
Purchased a 2008 DTS in 2008. We love it, especially the smooth ride. Every year it goes into the dealer for a detailing, inside, outside and the engine well area. It looks like it just came off the showroom floor and retains the elegant Cadillac luxury appearance. We get offers from strangers wanting to purchase it. While we understand GM's idea to get sporty and entice the younger generations hooked up, we still appreciate the vision of GM's previous boardrooms that Cadillac ownership meant the purchaser had arrived financially, desired and was able to acquire the very best luxury on the American road. While we are well able to purchase a new Cadillac we await the time, if ever, GM may decide to bring back the luxury sedan after its flirtation with attracting youngsters.
Very nice review, thank you. I’ve been looking for this car but unfortunately previous owners have not generally kept them up well. I’m continuing my search so hopefully I’ll find one on holiday this winter in the south.
Great Review Man. I love your videography and use of the drones & music. Incredible. !!!! Makes for such a much better Review Experience. The Cadillac is AWESOME. I am a Proud owner of a 1990 Brougham so I know how great these cars can ride and the quality GM built into them. This Version NorthStar was fixed by now so that is good also. Thanks....
This is the perfect car for me, I've always dreamed of having a luxury vehicle. I have no interest whatsoever in a sporty car never have. I dream of having one of these and it's my goal to find a good one soon 😉
Owned a 2000 and 2006. These are sublime when they’re working. Both of my DTS’s were absolute lemons. Fortunately I had extended warranties. The Northstar (Deathstar) is a wonderful engine until it inevitably leaks and yes beyond 2006. They will leak from up top and down low. These cars handle incredibly well, I felt it was like a sports car. Alas the zillions of defects cured me of being a lifelong GM guy. Love/hate the DTS and Deathstar.
It's too bad both of yours had issues. The Northstars were known for oil leaks, that would certainly cause a love/hate relationship. Thank you so much for watching the video!
@rbrobbi: I've had my 08 model since 2015 and it's been great. It's got small oil leak but it's not worth fixing. The only major problem I had was the fuel pump and rear fusebox. Can't call mine a lemon.
Great Review! It's a crime Cadillac doesn't manufacture a coupe/sedan anymore. Not everyone wants or needs to drive a SUV. I was just reviewing the '86 to '02 Eldorado, great "personal luxury" coupe... when you look at the Mercedes E Class Coupe, M-B sells every coupe! The price range for the coupe/cabriolet(convertible) could hit Six Digits easily! What gets me, America has the talented assemblers to build great cars, and GM CEO, doesn't acknowledge the talent we have here in the States... Great Reviews! Keep up the sweet vids!
Good review. If you look at the interior features and you will see/find the same on other GM makes esp Buick. It was an end result of GM's dis-investment in Cadillac during that time. They should have invested/expanded more in RWD models Imagine how many "would be" Cadillac buyers/owners driving around in Audis, Benzes, Lexuses, and BMWs - all have a full range. Buick has faced the same fate or should i say ongoing saga that continues to this day. Makes me wonder how much longer GM can go on with not much left.
The rear doors may look like they have ashtrays, but those are plastic, bad for lit embers but good for gum wrappers, and what appears to be ciggatette lighters within them, are just plastic plugs. In my opinion, these cars are truly the last of the best riding cadillacs they made, just a wonderful luxurious quiet ride. I also own a 2017 CT6 platinum, and I feel like my DTS rides WAY nicer than the CT6.🤘Love your reviews.
@@blaquesteve1 From the manual... 2007 DTS (and my car) "There are two accessory power outlets in the rear seat area located on the door armrests next to the ashtrays.Your vehicle may have a SMALL CAP that must be removed to access the accessory POWER OUTLET. If it does, when not using the outlet be sure to cover it with the protective cap". These are just power outlets, not cigarrette lighters. No elements to get orange hot.
Very nice job you did reviewing this car! Thank you for posting! By the way Cadillac started the Deville in 1949 for the Sedan DeVille, and in 1956 for the coupe. Thanks! Greg in California
Being a tall couple, my Wife and I purchased a 2006 Cadillac DTS. I can say that it's the right car for us (Being my 3rd Cadillac, and my Wife's 1st Cadillac); it's very roomy and comfortable, it's like flying a Boeing 767. It's got size and power, and a very ingenious front wheel drive design; and an excellent daily driver. When my Wife and I will grow old, we'll still ride in our Classic 2006 Cadillac DTS. By the way mine is Sapphire Blue (GM: Blue Chip).
James, your videos are all so beautifully done and the open country of Ohio is spectacular! Was that a real person in the trunk, because you pulled him out like he weighed nothing? Maybe you are just really strong and you were showing off a bit 🎃.
I'm looking at a beautiful 2010 DTS pearl white chrome black guts woodgrain 97k the guys asking almost ten gss but I'd make payments regardless build lol credit but everyone shits on Northstar but is it like a hit or miss
I absolutely love my 2010 DTS! The last of the great big Caddy’s! Very comfortable and reliable! I plan on keeping her for a long time! If anyone is thinking about buying one, do it soon. The prices of these will hold and eventually go up. A great investment into a luxury car!
Beautiful car man, great video. I've always wanted one of these since they first came out when I was a kid. I feel like the DTS looked better than its Deville predecessor with the bigger angular front end and sharper edges. My dream is to find a 2011, preferably in the beautiful metallic red.
I drive a base model 08 DTS (basically an impala LTZ with a Cadillac Crest) and let me say, this car does not need the features to be great. As standard it has the rear air suspension, full power seats with lumbar, automatic windows, a better stereo (not the bose unit) still than some modern cars and that's it. Yet, it still is dead silent and as comfortable as a malaise era yacht. This car is the pinnacle of the American luxury sedan, combining traditional luxury with modern tech while not sacrificing its roots. Also, just want to say that this is my new favorite car review channel! You're so in depth and detailed it's unmatched, and as a resident of the greater Cleveland area much love from a fellow Ohioan!
I had an 07 DTS performance with the NHP engine. Nice car, engine still had the Northstar curse blowing oil. Traded it for an AWD Lincoln MKS and never looked back
Your DTS review reminds me of a 91 year old, still very active friend, who sold foundry equipment to GM for many decades. He has a LONG history of buying slightly used GM executive driven Cadillacs. His current car is a 2019 CT6, before that a 2014 XTS, and before that a 2008 DTS Platinum. He wants the DTS back! BTW... the DeVille name first appeared as a trim option on the 1950 Series 62 Coupe, The Sedan DeVille name debutted as Cadillac's first four-door hardtop in 1956.
I loved your review I would love to see a review if the 2011 or newest Chrysler 300 a competitor to the DTS and I love the 300 been one my best cars I’ve ever had and I subscribed and you do a great job !
The audio and video editing was excellent. Your explanation and coverage of the features was professional. The car's color is unique and quite beautiful. A little elbow grease and time spent clay barring, buffing out the swirls, and then applying a ceramic coating would really make this paint pop and do this DTS justice.
Great video! I always preferred the panther platform cars over the DTS' but these are still nice, definitely the last "classic-ish" Cadillac ever made!
Oh and they are good on gas mileage, which surprised me, they have many good qualities you have to own one to appreciate, if you ever have one and decide to sale it you will only want to get another one, you gone miss the car trust me , I don't know why but they do this to everybody who's owned one
I love old Cadillacs. I have a ‘73 eldorado and an ‘08 DTS. I absolutely agree with the person that said this is the last model they feel any connection to. No large sedan available from Cadillac is very disappointing. I love my DTS and I intend to keep it running for as long as possible!
I inherited a very similar one from my dad. It was his pride and joy I'll tell ya. I never cared to own a Cadillac myself because of its horrible reputation of expensive maintenance and engine problems as well as the horrible depreciation in value. However as a free car it has the top priority in my garage space because of how beautiful and luxurious of a ride it is. As an owner I like the appeal of it. It is really fancy. If you mash on the gas it will roar and give you a real rush. this thing moves. What was overlooked in this review was the great sounding stereo system. Unfortunately there is some kind of oil leak as expected which is a real drag. That's a Cadillac for ya.
The Northstar was the main set back for these DeVille/DTS models. Iv had several Fleetwoods currently have one n never had any oil issues wit none. I had a DTS and that oil issue was the main issue. I had a CTS coupe never had an issue wit it as well
I seen this car back in 2005, and it was my dream car. Finally got it in 2015. I plan on keeping this caddy forever.

I remember me and bro drove a 07 DTS on a round trip from Mobile,AL to Miami, FL and back. It was like driving a sofa 😁
Yes, the DTS has a great mixture of brilliant comfort and nice futuristic features that make it easy to have a relaxed drive. Thanks for watching!
Another superlative comprehensive Cadillac review. Excellent photography and audio. Great job, James!
Thank you so much, Dale! I'm so glad you enjoyed it
I always enjoy your content.
I’ve always heard the north star was bad what was your experience?
I’ve heard the North Star was bad because of the aluminum heads in them
@@BobSmith-said No problems here, though to be fair, I only bought them new and always traded before the factory warranty expired.
Makes it have the true feeling of a “boat car”
Yup it's nice to have some decent acceleration without having to totally put your foot into it. Besides the new smaller motors with start stop, direct injection, later adding port as well to clean the valves. Many adding turbo to boot further adding pressure to the engine paired with thin oil. Often running really efficiently for 100k maybe then the potential for massive repair/maintenance to keep going increases considerably.
That is the real cadillac sedan in my heart!
I also saw Ur Fleetwood video.
Ur an Excellent Presenter.
I Appreciate Ur Effort and Professionalism.
Thank U Sir.
James, yet another great video. I share your love for Cadillacs.
That is a gorgeous color! Don't believe I've ever seen it!
Thank you! I hadn't noticed it until I saw this car, it definitely stands out.
i currently have a 2006 dts luxury 1 all black with black leather seats with dark wood grain interior and going on 2 years this year and loving it!
Excellent review. Thanks for sharing some information I did not know about the DTS. i drove a 2010 in Chicago and loved it.
Awesome Video! I have a 2007 DTS which is amazing !! I also liked the Drone video at the end. Thanks for the cool review !!! Best car around.
You don't want to do that 😂 these cars are junk!
@@CoreyWhite-nt2yuThank you!
Thanks, Hal
I'm so glad you liked the car and the review! I really appreciate the support 😃
@@JW_Reviews James, added note, your reference to smoking in the car? Now knowing who your dad is, the only thing you would be smoking are the tire's😇
@@halhenryg lol, very true 😂😂
Loved the body in the trunk
Wanted a DTS since they changed the body style back in 2006...picked up a 2006 Crimson Pearl (red) DTS a week ago with 125k down in Kentucky and shipped it Midwest Cadillac Repair in Palatine, IL to get all sorted out.
Sweet Caddy..so smooth yet powerful.
I picked up a pearl white 2006 DTS last year with only 54k miles on it. Its a great daily driver.
Wow! What a beautiful color. I also like the interior colour.
Very accurate reveiw, ive driven a 07 DTS L2 for a number of years now.
Only thing I would add is the heated washer fluid, Great job!
Thank you so much! And that's a fantastic point about the heated washer fluid. I wish they didn't recall it, such a neat and handy feature
@JW Car Reviews beautiful car best ever made and the smoking jokes were hilarious 😂
The trick for more subscribers, is to NOT ask for them. Just post your good content, and we'll continue to come my man.
Excellent review! Lots of very informative detail. I really enjoyed the video. 24:16
Beautiful car and the drone footage!
Thank you so much, Andrew!
James is a comedian. Body in the trunk demonstration was hilarious. I used to own a 2008 DTS. It was my daily driver. It was expensive to maintain. Drove well in the snow.
Better than a four wheel drive when there came a huge snow in East Tennessee and I had to get home from work.
what was expensive to maintain?
They were beautiful cars and extremely comfortable.
That was funny pulling the man out of the trunk. The DTS, DTS, and Elderado for 1997 were my personal favorite models for Cadillac. This was a very good review!!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE MINE..ITS GREAT! Mine is white diamond..I LOVE THAT COLOR of yours way more!!!!
Luv it I’ve own three Cadillac DTS & absolutely luv these vehicles
Very refined powertrain. The 4T80E is one of GM's better transmissions from the era, and the Northstar makes power so early that you hardly notice the lack of gears. Leave it to General Motors to give the DTS cool white interior lighting, but no push-to-start, while the STS (Cadillac's flagship) gets the exact inverse.
A lot of effort put into the edits to make this review stand above the rest, beautiful car
I been watching your videos for years now I love all of them great stuff James
I was able to find a 2010 DTS. I’m loving it!
Have a 2008 DTS and a 2002 deville still drive them everyday, love my caddys
I just bought a 2007 in October of 2022 and paid 1300$ for it. It does need some work since it is a 07 but definitely worth the money!
Just bout a 2006 yesterday, red with tan interior same here..needs some work but absolutely beautiful Caddy.
I hope that you'll find one, these are great cars!
I got a 07 about a year ago and i absolutely love it. Had a power steering leak but thats it so far been good to me
Owned a 2000 and 2006.
Great review I really enjoyed it
That 6 seat features is meant for road head my boy 🔥
Great Review!
It's a crime Cadillac doesn't manufacture a coupe/sedan anymore. Not everyone wants or needs to drive a SUV.
I was just reviewing the '86 to '02 Eldorado, great "personal luxury" coupe... when you look at the Mercedes E Class Coupe, M-B sells every coupe!
The price range for the coupe/cabriolet(convertible) could hit Six Digits easily! What gets me, America has the talented assemblers to build great cars, and
GM CEO, doesn't acknowledge the talent we have here in the States... Great Reviews! Keep up the sweet vids!
The CTS V AWD coupe is a thing of beauty and great performance.
Not true at all! Lighters in the back work and there are ashtrays
@@blaquesteve1
From the manual... 2007 DTS (and my car)
"There are two accessory power outlets in the rear seat area located on the door armrests next to the ashtrays.Your vehicle may have a SMALL CAP that must be removed to access the accessory POWER OUTLET. If it does, when not using the outlet be sure to cover it with the protective cap".
These are just power outlets, not cigarrette lighters. No elements to get orange hot.
I'm a proud owner of a 2006 Cadillac DTS smoke grey with a black cloth top 💯🤘✌
How much in maintenance a year
Very nice job you did reviewing this car! Thank you for posting! By the way Cadillac started the Deville in 1949 for the Sedan DeVille, and in 1956 for the coupe. Thanks! Greg in California
Appreciate the thorough and honest review. That hidden on seat charging port was an easter egg.
Black Cherry & Seafoam green are my favorite colors on these
11yrs ago I was riding in one of those and we had a 4 car wreck on the freeway... this car is hella safe and it could absorb shock very well
Thank you for the great content!
I have had 6 over the years...best car ever.
I'm looking at a beautiful 2010 DTS pearl white chrome black guts woodgrain 97k the guys asking almost ten gss but I'd make payments regardless build lol credit but everyone shits on Northstar but is it like a hit or miss
The last model of Cadillac that could be recognized AS a Cadillac.
I bought a DTS for my wife, After driving her Caddie I was so impressed I had to get one for myself!!!
Just to let you know. The DeVille name first came out in 1949. Also, I believe that the round circle on the key fob is for the remote start.
James did reference the remote start feature.
The audio and video editing was excellent. Your explanation and coverage of the features was professional. The car's color is unique and quite beautiful. A little elbow grease and time spent clay barring, buffing out the swirls, and then applying a ceramic coating would really make this paint pop and do this DTS justice.
One of my favorite daily drivers, planning on finding a Platinum in desired spec to have along with my current one.
Bro! Love all of your Cadillac Reviews! Thanks and keep it up!!
Great video! I always preferred the panther platform cars over the DTS' but these are still nice, definitely the last "classic-ish" Cadillac ever made!
I really like the music clip you used in this video
I was about to get ready to sell mine a couple months ago, Steph daughter and my daughter wanted it. They loved it, my daughter bought it right away
You better call the Sheriff...Oh forget it...that was the Sheriff?...lol
James is such a good fellow.
Thank you! I agree!!!❤
I like that high beam sensor behind the mirror.😊
Oh and they are good on gas mileage, which surprised me, they have many good qualities you have to own one to appreciate, if you ever have one and decide to sale it you will only want to get another one, you gone miss the car trust me , I don't know why but they do this to everybody who's owned one
I love old Cadillacs. I have a ‘73 eldorado and an ‘08 DTS. I absolutely agree with the person that said this is the last model they feel any connection to. No large sedan available from Cadillac is very disappointing. I love my DTS and I intend to keep it running for as long as possible!
Hi great review, I do miss the Deville, DTS & CT6's
I hadn't planned on subscribing, but what happened at 7:15 convinced me to.
Great Job ! Thank You
Never knew they came in black cherry! Beautiful car
I love these cars, I also like the 5 seater center console, gives u that sporty look, I had a Dark Blue exterior & Black interior
I had a CTS coupe never had an issue wit it as well
Yeah, them Northstars always scared me; it's a hit or miss when you get one of these beauties
A lot of cool features in the cabin. Overall it appeared rather bland to me. Another comprehensive review James!
