Oh the fucking Nostalgia urghhhhh...I miss being in my Dorm room listening to music like this and doing absolutely nothing. If I was, at that point, self aware to know that it would all end I would have clinged to it till my fingers bled. The inevitable is not only unavoidable but harrowing and sucks balls
Sometimes I get a bit scared by The National. It's like they decided to make a whole lot of songs based on my life. That's also why I love them. Their honest view on life is easy to relate to.
I get that feeling with almost every song. It's scary how one can relate to their music and lyrics. The anxiety, the details in the patterns of behaviour. It's as if they're living my life in a different time and space.
15 years ago this was posted. That just blew my mind. By far more relevant and elegant than anything today. I played this song as I tended bar the other night, and sang Bloodbuzz with an unbelievable beauty at the same bar on my birthday two nights ago. The National are a magical band.
Oh, were so disarming, darling, everything we did believe Is diving, diving, diving, diving off the balcony... One of my favourite lyrical lines, ever.
I've recently discovered that I've subconsciously adopted Matt Berninger's "hands-on" approach to holding the microphone whenever I'm out at karaoke... now if only they added some National songs to the karaoke collection, I'd feel complete.
Dear The National, My party guests would never do this. would be lit af! I'm saving up money to be able to one day afford you guys to perform for all of my nearest and dearest. I love your music and even have a "So Far Around the Bend-" inspired tattoo. Sincerely, An Optimistic Ohio-located Fan
One of the most down to earth bands. You always fear meeting those who you appreciate through art but I can say that they are simply splendid human beings.
See these guys live last Sunday in Rotterdam - when they played this track it was the highlight of the whole show for me...What a F*cking Brilliant Band to see live.. If you haven't had the pleasure I highly recommend it.. Thumbs up if you have seen them live!!!!
The National its like the "common" man life translator into music. Its about real stuff, its about me and you going through or day to day. They are my favourite band because they understand what Im into. Is not about having luxury cars and doing cocaine with hot chicks in a party on a boat.
I love the sequence in the video where we see a bunch of people taking it to the dance floor and at the end we have a frame of two people holding hands
I LOVE how with the National more so than any other band I've encountered its fans really fall in love with certain lyrics and their delivery, such a tribute to Matt and the lads, Heroes.
Be still for a second while I try and try to pin your flowers on La, la, la, la, la Can you carry my drink, I have everything else I can tie my tie all by myself I'm getting tied, I'm forgetting why Oh, we're so disarming, darling, everything we did believe Is diving, diving, diving, diving off the balcony Tired and wired, we ruin too easy Sleep in our clothes and wait for winter to leave Hold ourselves together With our arms around the stereo for hours La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la While it sings to itself or whatever it does When it sings to itself of its long lost loves I'm getting tied, I'm forgetting why Tired and wired, we ruin too easy Sleep in our clothes and wait for winter to leave And I'll be with you, behind the couch When they come on a different day, just like this one We'll stay inside till somebody finds us Do whatever the TV tells us Stay inside our rosy-minded fuzz for days We'll stay inside till somebody finds us Do whatever the TV tells us Stay inside our rosy-minded fuzz So worry not, all things are well We'll be alright, we have our looks and perfume Stay inside till somebody finds us Do whatever the TV tells us Stay inside our rosy-minded fuzz So worry not, all things are well We'll be alright, we have our looks and perfume on
Can't stop watching! I just heard this & i'm really gonna miss this apartment that my parents & I have lived in since Dec '09. This Anchorage winter reminds me of childhood days...
Why is this one of the saddest songs I've ever heard and why did I see a dark and yellow apartment in my mind even before I ever saw this video? It's like they knew everyone's innermost thoughts during the Covid lockdown. 😢
I swear I didn't mean to analzye this video, but to me it shows what it's often like to be an indie band. At first, nobody notices or cares about you. But it just takes one person to notice. People follow suit, word of mouth spreads. And though you may never become a huge, commercial band, you could gain a smaller, more loyal fanbase that your music profoundly touches. And that really counts for something.
I like how in the video the music starts of quieter and in the background and the rooms background noise is louder, but as it goes on the music grows louder and the background noise goes away
My philosophy of life: "Stay inside till somebody finds us, do whatever the TV tells us, stay inside our rosy minded fuzz, so worry not, all things are well, we'll be alright, we have our looks, and perfume on"
This band is so slick. It's either the rich sound of the Bass or Matt's voice. I don't care which. Maybe it's both. All I know is that they intoxicate me.

Watch this band. They're going to be absolutely legendarily huge in the next decade.
travis-austin my, how this comment aged well
@@luisduarte309 Maybe in the sense that it was always a bad comment. They were already huge back then.
Well predicted!
Good shit, you were right! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
YOU WERE SO RIGHT!
This is our life now.
Disturbingly prescient
"Sleep in our clothes and wait for COVID to leave"
@@PresidentLincoln or a second wave 😑
I discovered The National just an hour ago, and I'm irreparably in love with them.
Still in love?
Me too, only it was about 15 minutes ago for me. Can't wait to hear and learn more!
Oh the fucking Nostalgia urghhhhh...I miss being in my Dorm room listening to music like this and doing absolutely nothing. If I was, at that point, self aware to know that it would all end I would have clinged to it till my fingers bled. The inevitable is not only unavoidable but harrowing and sucks balls
this is exactly what I am currently doing... too cool
as a senior !! i understand !! so i'm doing absolutely nothing as hard as i can xd !! stay strong bro
you just made me feel fucking old. thanks.
Reading this made me really sad
16 years ago. Man. Time flies.
Sometimes I get a bit scared by The National.
It's like they decided to make a whole lot of songs based on my life.
That's also why I love them. Their honest view on life is easy to relate to.
Yeah I love that, when a band steals apart of you, you thought you only knew. The national are good at that.
I thought you were gonna say you were scared by how dark they can get. I used to like them for that reason - like how people like horror movies.
I get that feeling with almost every song. It's scary how one can relate to their music and lyrics. The anxiety, the details in the patterns of behaviour. It's as if they're living my life in a different time and space.
I've had that same thought
yup.... freaky as fuck....
The National made the best quarantaine song like 15 years ago already!! 💚
This clip perfectly captures the atmosphere The National evokes in their music. Classy, sophisticated, and sincere.
Best band in America right now....easily.
And I doubt if anyone even understands this songs meaning... its pretty clear w the video.
The man in the red shoes towards the end gave it away.

Cracking.... "Tired and wired we ruin too easy... sleep in our clothes and wait for winter to leave." My favourite :D
yeah, they are poets....
I've recently discovered that I've subconsciously adopted Matt Berninger's "hands-on" approach to holding the microphone whenever I'm out at karaoke... now if only they added some National songs to the karaoke collection, I'd feel complete.
who's watching this in 2020?
who else had this song stuck in their head all of 2020? this song came out 13 years too early
Dear The National,

I loved your comment. I hope that you will do it someday.
I agree with muath. Maybe one day they'll go by and you can ask them. They seem like nice people. :P Good luck.
I've been following music for over 50 years, Count this band as one of the best around today.
This is the perfect song to listen to after a long hard day at work.
Agree mate
One of the most down to earth bands. You always fear meeting those who you appreciate through art but I can say that they are simply splendid human beings.
I think I'm addicted to this song. I have problems. Gonna play it again...
Song bursting with emotions at the end of the buildup. My favorite
I did not expect this album to be this good, ill admit. I was happy to wrong, dead wrong. An absolute classic.
i think this band is really good, but this song, man this song is amazing, i don't know what it has that makes me cry and smile, love it.
The video fits really well with the song, the atmosphere it gives off connects with the song, gives it a nice quality.
I wish they would play this song the same way live. Drums right off the bat.
can't get enough of this one.....drum driven--layered--melodic and honeyed sung gentle lyrics
All I ever loved or will love will never compare to my love for The National.
See these guys live last Sunday in Rotterdam - when they played this track it was the highlight of the whole show for me...What a F*cking Brilliant Band to see live.. If you haven't had the pleasure I highly recommend it.. Thumbs up if you have seen them live!!!!
this one is hitting hard right about now

stolen from the feelies
I LOVE how with the National more so than any other band I've encountered its fans really fall in love with certain lyrics and their delivery, such a tribute to Matt and the lads, Heroes.
This song will give me shivers, smiles and the verge of tears every single listen til I die
Great great underrated band
Be still for a second while I try and try to pin your flowers on
La, la, la, la, la
Can you carry my drink, I have everything else
I can tie my tie all by myself
I'm getting tied, I'm forgetting why
Oh, we're so disarming, darling, everything we did believe
Is diving, diving, diving, diving off the balcony
Tired and wired, we ruin too easy
Sleep in our clothes and wait for winter to leave
Hold ourselves together
With our arms around the stereo for hours
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
While it sings to itself or whatever it does
When it sings to itself of its long lost loves
I'm getting tied, I'm forgetting why
Tired and wired, we ruin too easy
Sleep in our clothes and wait for winter to leave
And I'll be with you, behind the couch
When they come on a different day, just like this one
We'll stay inside till somebody finds us
Do whatever the TV tells us
Stay inside our rosy-minded fuzz for days
We'll stay inside till somebody finds us
Do whatever the TV tells us
Stay inside our rosy-minded fuzz
So worry not, all things are well
We'll be alright, we have our looks and perfume
Stay inside till somebody finds us
Do whatever the TV tells us
Stay inside our rosy-minded fuzz
So worry not, all things are well
We'll be alright, we have our looks and perfume on
Wow. Just wow. It's like a shot of melancholy warmth and offbeat laughter to the heart.
Can't stop watching! I just heard this & i'm really gonna miss this apartment that my parents & I have lived in since Dec '09. This Anchorage winter reminds me of childhood days...
I feel like this song should be played at the end of every coming-of-age / romcom film.
Sweet Mary. The National came on and everyone stood up and starting dancing. First time for everything ;)
Why is this one of the saddest songs I've ever heard and why did I see a dark and yellow apartment in my mind even before I ever saw this video? It's like they knew everyone's innermost thoughts during the Covid lockdown. 😢

Best song
One of the best bands out there...their concert is amazing!!!!
I just discovered this band. Love them. The scene at 2:38 is perfect.
Thank you Matt for crying with me. I'm wrapping my arms on the radio right now crying to this.
I go right back to 23 years old whenever I hear this song.
I like how in the video the music starts of quieter and in the background and the rooms background noise is louder, but as it goes on the music grows louder and the background noise goes away
I absolutely love this band!!!
Absolute class. All the classics in there; Echo and the Bunnymen, The The, New Order... lovely
Love that Fender amp in the beginning.
Fantastische Band, vielleicht die beste Band aller Zeiten😎🥁👍🇩🇪🇩🇪😉💥🧨🔨🔨🔨🔨

Having been to some pretty awkward wedding receptions, they always remind me of this video and this song
Cant wait to hear them 3.8 in sibenik, croatia!! 3
If life had a soundtrack, this would be my theme song.
I haven't heard music like this since the 80s.
This one, Sorrow, and I Should live in Salt are my faves! Then there's those other song they do....
Such an amazing band
so cute and blissful and carefree
I love this song, fantastic in every way. (=
What a beautifully filmed music video. Great job Banner
one of the best on the album
It's absolutely flawless. I'd put it in their top 5 all time songs.
bringing in Joy Division, Cocteau Twins and evolving it all into their own..bloody brilliant.
I used to listen to these guys when i wanted to relax. They're awesome and unique.
Huge song !
That video clip as guitare base are a direct reference to common people by pulp.
Let feel Jarvis Cocker influence ! :)
this song reminds me of my dad
Everytime I hear that song I imagine this video. Excellent
I think this is still their best song
great track!
Amazing song. So glad to have found you! ROCK ON! And for what it's worth, I, for one, will be watching and listening.

the video is the dream of every band that play for the first time in front of an audience that doesn't know their song and music

LONG LIVE THE NATIONAL
Obrigada🤩😁😙🤗🤗🤗
I really really hope some Taylor Swift fans find this one! My favorite The National song!

Love this song!
This band is so slick. It's either the rich sound of the Bass or Matt's voice. I don't care which. Maybe it's both. All I know is that they intoxicate me.
@roomie4rent dude....you are brilliant. brilliant.
We'll stay inside till somebody finds us
Do whatever the TV tells us
Stay inside our rosy-minded fuzz for days
We'll stay inside till somebody finds us
Do whatever the TV tells us

So worry not, all things are well
We'll be alright, we have our looks and perfume
Stay inside till somebody finds us

F***ing love this song.
This is so sweet, there's a lot of their friends and family in the clip :). You're correct, KidASuared. Also, Mat's brother is in it too!
