- The Whispers began with twin brothers Walter and Wallace Scott, who at the age of 5 performed professionally for the first time as the Scott Twins. They entered a talent show and met a fellow band, The Eden Trio with members Nicholas Caldwell, Marcus Hutson and Gordy Harmon and began doo wopping together.
They agreed to form a band in 1964 and named themselves The Whispers after a suggestion by Lew Bedell of Dore Records who signed them and issued their first single "The Dip" which did not chart. Four years later they met producer/manager Dick Griffey who took them on as clients, scoring their first pop hit in 1969 with the "The Time Will Come".
Harmon left in 1973 and was replaced by Leaveil Degree and this group was signed to Griffey's Soul Time label. The label changed name in 1979 to Solar Records (Sound Of Los Angeles Records). Their doo woppy vocals attracted the attention of Leon Sylvers who discovered a group named Dynasty who were labelmates.
Sylvers brought the Whispers a song he has written, "And The Beat Goes On" which the group loved, but due to their failure to attract an audience were skeptical of its success. Boy were they wrong, it entered the R&B chart on January 19, 1980 and six weeks later and it spent five weeks at #1 R&B cementing their new sound giving them new life as successful R&B artists.

Girl….they took us to ladies of the 80’s which is when I turned 18!! When I saw them in soul train, I could not believe how old they were lol…I think they were a stepping stone for legendary groups or singers like Johnny Taylor to get back busy. l know when Levert came out and they were at the Afro fest in Milwaukee in my mid 20’s and they brought the OJays out, that was it for me!! I’m still thanking Levert for bringing my OJays back!! Also if you get a chance check out the Ohio Players!! I saw them for my birthday in Columbus Ohio at their State Fair….let me tell you, “they sounded and performed well”. I traveled from Chicago to go see them and it was well worth the trip. If they are back next year and they should…I’m going!!

I979 was the time to be, when this classic hit the club scene. This tremendous song was a favorite at the Disco's, and many house parties, nonstop. The Whispers kept many of us dancing with this song from evening to the night having big fun. A great time for the disco experiences, worth repeating. Thank you for playing this oldie!

Thing about this song is how many background instruments make it so damn catchy: the synths, the bass, the strings, the guitars and of course The Whispers legendary vocals. Quality music like this just isn't made anymore. Good long remix. 👍🏾

The Whispers were effin' AWESOME! "Make It With You", "Bingo", "I Can Make It Better", "In The Raw", "Out The Box", "Tonight", "Keep On Lovin' Me", "It's A Love Thing"...INSANELY GOOD. Also, Leon F. Sylvers III was a genius Sound Architect, and he deserves a documentary of his own. And, oh yes - another bang-up job by the Legendary DJ DiscoCat!

I'm so glad to have grown up when I did because all of the music of the '70s will forever be the very best quality music ever!! I fell deep in love with this song the very first time that I ever heard it!! Everything about this song is so sensational & so dreamy!! The singing group is one of the very best of all times!! Their voices sounded so divine!! The words to this song sound so heavenly, & make such a wonderful & very true point!! The music is Pure Heaven!! It's so original, stylish, upbeat, positive, & cool!! The stone coldest of stone cold grooves. I got to enjoy it twice growing up. In the late '90s, B106 out of Columbia, SC, used to run a 70s program called "The Bell Bottom Ballroom" that featured the best--and the worst--the decade had to offer. (This, obviously, was one of the best.) And about that time, Will Smith sampled it for "Miami".
I used to live in Columbia, we danced to this at the Candy Shop
I must have heard this song because I was still in Sydney Australia but its possible I might heard it back in Rotorua New Zealand when I was working for the EMI shop, 12 inch vinyl rules!
