Beautifully explained and demonstrated sheer scrape, Tomislav. You understood every challenge I explained that I face in turning. I didn't realize tilting the edge prevented the self feeding. I will try it first thing tomorrow morning. Thank you very much for addressing my concern. I'll go watch the rest of your video now. 😊
Tomislav, I have not heard you brag. OK, I'll do it. You and the best teacher of turning on the web. I don't think that will bring you fame and fortune, but I hope it does because you deserve it. Great video. Love the 4 - way series.
Thank you John for such a kind words, I still have a lot to improve on how to pass on what I know but I'll get there. Thank you for watching and support what we do ☺️
Tomislov…. Your skills at the lathe are so impressive! Your description of what, how and why you are doing things is so easy to understand. Now if I can just put all the knowledge you have shared into my turning 🤠🇨🇱
I really like watching you. If I see it enough times, it may become habit. This is an incredible video. It is the best demonstration of how to turn a bowl. Thank you.
I do so enjoy watching you and the others on these 4 way projects. I have done things bowls and had fun seeing what shape they finish at but you take things past what I have been brave enough to do. I think I need to get myself a good scraper. Thanks for sharing
Great Video, I have done this for a contest... sawing it in half was so sad! I made wall sconces out of the two halves... Really appreciate you and all you do for us Tomislav! Thank you so much!
I haven't either up until this really big log I found on mulch yard.... Already gone through fungi and rot... But the rest is this interesting color and pattern
That's very impressive. I found myself holding my breath when you were doing the final cutting. I am definitely going to try this on a smaller blank. Best Wishes, Brendan.
A marvelous show of tool handling and skill. Hope the bowl saving problems get resolved soon. I do like to see how the four of you do things just a little differently. It was a lovely bowl and though it made for a fine demonstration model, the whole thing would have graced any room. Thanks for another fine video.
Masterpiece! I’d NEVER cut something like that in two! Awesome job, I always enjoy your work and informative demos and description! Please keep it up… thanks for sharing!
Wood is so amazing! Cut it, turn it, shape it and it stays together. That is crazy thin. Being somewhat green gives it flexibility. Great job Tomislav. I admire your work!
Very impressive Tomislav! After seeing the 2 halves I'm not sure that you could tell it wasn't all perfect without cutting it. Great job and very informative tutorial! Thanks for sharing. Take care, Dave
Very enjoyable to watch you do this. Appreciate the detail you provide as you turn and explanations. Yours is the first of the four I've watched, now off to watch the other 3
Hi Tomislav - I have really tried to get the Sorby Slicer like the one you are using in this clip - BUT they have been discontinued years ago - so I guess non to be had. What else could I use please? Phil (in South West England)
Very well done but not very practical. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂 Another great four way challenge. You four guys always do something interesting. Yours this month is no exception. Entertaining, educational, enjoyable.
Wow that was a really great instructional video tommi. Nice thin bowl, I was wondering what you were going to do with the 2 halves and now understand why you didn’t have a conventional foot on bowl. Really different approach from Richard , it worked so well for you too. Why didn’t you move your tool rest inside the bowl to assist in getting to the bottom more easily? Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant video Tomislav .l had my heart in my mouth every time you made the bowl thinner ,I thought to myself any time now it’s all going to go pear shaped .But you do know what you’re doing and I don’t lol. Keep the videos coming please ,there so good to watch and I have learnt a lot from looking at them .take care
Simply incredible!! I must try! I’m glad to see that you were able to do more thinning after reversing it, because in my mind I felt that would be more comfortable controlling a shear scrape on the exterior vs the bowl gouge inside, at my skill level. Beautiful work and even better tutorial on a great subject! Thanks again for another classic video!!
Oh my goodness. That's a seriously thin bowl!! In my opinion you definitely won this challenge, even high i know it's not a competition. I have never seen wood wobble like that before, incredible. I think the thinnest I've managed is about 3mm and that was only because i had a catch when scraping the inside and had to turn away the evidence of the catch. My heart was in my mouth for that one.
Great at making a very thin bowl. It looked like you had a round bottom. The other guys made a usable bowl. Of course Sam cut his in half like you did. Congratulations on the thin bowl.
Thank you very much, round bottom bowls are sometimes even more usable due if done properly they are hard to tip over... I'll do a video on this as well... Thank you for watching 🤗
Awesome video! Explains alot, I've tried a thin bowl recently but didn't leave mass in the lower portions and got alot of chatter marks. This gave me alot to think about for the next one.
I could, yes but my McNaughton is already old one and beat up so I'll get something new, and in time I'll get brand new McNaughton but with 30mm post.... thanks for suggestion and watching 😀
@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning this video is what del Stubbs invented sheer scraping for, it's easy to 1 hand the tool for interiors and steady the bowls outside, I've gotten a .25mm wall before this way. It was neat to see how you turned the bottom on this. My mcnghouton is used I've had to bend all the shanks back into shape to get them to cut, if they are tipped down they just grab. It's strange all the videos you've posted lately are things I recently tried, like your burnisher in the lathe. Today I made a 4th successful under 2mm walled hollow form Great video though really finessed this one man
Wonderful and informative demo. Thanks for sharing. QUESTION: Do you have video demonstrating and explaining how you get a finish cut with scrapers? Thank you.
Thank you sir, I have several videos in the past few months on tools finish and how to get best possible surface using scrapers.... Just swipe through the video list😉
Sve najbolje, Zoran
Thank you, well I normally don't go this thin , but there would be applications for this, you can use thin bowl, or lamp shade or if you have to bent the wood to your shape like wooden hats
Thank you, well I did learn a lot where I can improve of thin stuff like this,so sometimes its nessesary to cut it but again its not lost, these will be shop containers on the wall☺️
Around 330 kgs, that would be Around 700lbs. And its bolted down to concrete. If you turn odd shape pieces or disbalance pieces then lathe would shake a lot.

No worries, I do the same 😅 Pretty much the same stuff, different name.... Shear cut is the name beacuse of the shear angle of approch when you position gouge to do finish cut.... Push cut its sort of the way you manipulate the tool, you can also use pull cut or draw cut... Different names for different cuts

I watched a video some years ago, where the man turned a really thin form, and then used it as a lampshade!
It looked great!

Usually thin bowls end up like lamp shades😄😀

I so enjoy these 4 way videos. Thank you for keeping these going. I keep learning something from all of you.

I like the idea of ending on the outside. I've done that myself. Never on a 2 mm bowl. I don't have the nerve to try it.
Great lesson Tomislav.
You are truly a master of this job. When I watched your videos, I realized how inexperienced my videos were.
Thank you sir very much, 🤗
You can make a shim for the post, just whatever extra space is left in the banjo, fill with a pipe, and then cut a slot in the pipe and your set.

Great video. Thank you for sharing!
Very enjoyable to watch I was nervous hoping it would not break😔
Thank you, still there was a room to make it a bit thinner, but that's for another video 🤗
Of all the pieces of wood to use!
Why?
I needed two shelf for the shop, and this is what I have the most 👍
@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning Its too pretty for a bowl bound to be cut in half!
Wow that is fantastic ❤
Thank you 😀

Impressive! Just practicing turning thin pieces myself👌 only downside with your very thin turning, is, what’s the point?

Omg this is realy thin. Why you don't use light, that you see tickness
Thanks buddy, light is great but I don't have a tourch that would work and lazy to buy one 😅 but I might have to buy one for the videos😀

Hello, thank you for all of the great info. I see that you turn very fast, my Powermatic shakes over 600-800. How heavy is your lathe?
Around 330 kgs, that would be Around 700lbs.
And its bolted down to concrete.
If you turn odd shape pieces or disbalance pieces then lathe would shake a lot.
Amazing.
Seem to be similar can you explain the differences? Thank you
Sorry , seem to be similar to what?
Didn't quite understand the question😀
Awesome Tomi! you are a legend - coupled with excellent explanation of your process, I have learned so much from you - Diolch yr Fawr.
Thank you very much 🤗
Would have been nice to finish the bowl and revisit in a couple of months. I can see I need to learn to sharpen a whole lot better
awesome but so scary !! brilliant
Thank you 🤗
NOOOOO!! Please don't cut it!!! Great instructional and educational video, as always, Tomi; thank you.
Thank you very much, Already cut it so I can see where I need to improve, sometimes is nessesary to cut it to learn ☺️
Awesome video! Well done! 😎
