Appreciate your honest feedback and understand it's not easy making this kind of video but it's important to expose issues and give manufacturers a chance to correct any issues , Thanks Luc Knives .
My experience with tactile was less than desired..but luckily was able to machine the replacement pivot I bought and paid for to fit my Rockwall. It was .0013 to big and would have been literally press fit at that size over..eventually machined. 0015 for a snug slip fit..works great now..sorry to hear the issues..good luck..
A big reason that companies use ball bearings now is because they don’t have to have at tight of tolerances. Every company pretends that the bearings are an upgrade but they really are there many times because they are much more forgiving with blade tolerances. Bronze washers are by far more durable- especially if you use your “hard use” knife for outdoor hard use
Anytime I’ve had vertical play that won’t go away on bar lock style knife, it’s almost always been that the pivot hole is too large for the pivot. Not sure if that’s the case here but I appreciate you putting out this video and I’m curious to see how this plays out.
Greatly appreciate the insight. I've been definitely looking forward to this knife. Having second thoughts for sure. Look forward to seeing your follow up video man. Hopefully you get a solid replacement and it was just a mistake in QC.
Dude! The blade play on mine is ridiculous. I sent them an email so I can return it and get my money back. There’s no way they should’ve released these with that much blade play. What were they thinking.
USA made doesn't mean USA quailty just as China made doesn't mean China quailty. People need to learn that. Kizer does amazing r&d and QC for the price and there are some USA product at premium cost but is crap. Thank you for honest review
So glad I watched your vid ! Thank you very informative Good luck getting your knife issues resolved Was thinking about pulling the trigger on that knife but way too many issues Thanx again Stay safe
I ordered 2 titanium, and 1 micarta. I had to send 1 titanium back, and it’s flawless now. The other 2 came a little stiff, but wore in nicely. I didn’t get my knives on the first drop, and believe they took care of the issues.
i've seen way too many videos of issues with tactile. I like what they're doing with it all made in usa and sourced locally but for their price with the quality ive seen I cant risk it.
Such a shame. It’s really a nice-looking knife. And I can definitely vouch for Tactile and their QC issues when I ordered two of their first flipper Rockwall knives and sent both of them back. They definitely have some work to do.
I had a rock wall missing a liner lock screw. I emailed them and never heard back. Luckily rivers edge cutlery called them for me and they sent me a brand new knife with a return label for the old one so they made it right hopefully they’ll get back to you
I ordered straight from them. Got a Rockwall w terrible lock rock. Called them, emailed them several times. Never heard anything. I wouldn’t buy from this place ever again!
@@landscapingspecialist yeah that’s unfortunate I know they’re busy working on getting knives out the door but it dosent matter how many you send if you’re customer service sucks
A lot of washer knives require an extensive break in. I’m my experience the more they have to break in the better the action ends up being. That being said. The one I received today has a perfect action right out of the box so maybe you got one where the tolerances are a little tight. The blade centering is not good. Hope they get it fixed for you.
My Maverick was arriving today. I watched your video yesterday and was really concerned and all ready to write an email to the company telling them why I wanted to return it. I got the package today. Opened it at the post office. Totally solid lockup, no lock rock, no blade play at all. Hmm? Go figure?
Mine has less vertical play but it's still there. They claimed it's within spec, so I'm out of luck. It also came dull and has the wrong pocket clip installed, which they're sending to me for the cost of shipping. I'm not thrilled.
Gotta say, mine was a little stiff at first, which I expected out of a washer knife. After a few days of playing with it, then cleaning it, and adjusting the omega springs to the tighter setting, it’s pretty good. My lockup is also solid. Maybe I just got lucky
I had the same problem with the Rockwall - the blade was so tight/ stiff action from the box. I adjusted the pivot to at least make the knife operable with one hand, but it shifted the blade to one side so much it was touching the liner.
I was weary of ordering after I saw your video, but I can report mine has no side to side or vertical play, is centered and has a hydraulic closing action.
My bet would be it is because it's on washers and not bearings. My TRM Shadow was stiff like that brand new but once you wear it in, it's butter smooth. Once you break in washers, I actually prefer that little extra bit of control.
At first I was thinking what you talking about but when you showed how much movement I was like damn that sucks . I’ve had a few crossbar locks too . I haven’t seen one this bad in moment before . Good video my guy !
For anybody looking to buy a Maverick, my local knife shop Sharp Things OKC has a few more exclusive to them Mavericks in Fat Carbon Fiber Black Dunes. They told me only 50 were made. I bought one today and it looks sick!
The vertical blade play should eventually correct itself unless it’s really bad. Everyone’s tolerance acceptability ranges of course. Being the consumer that you are over the years you’ve experienced a huge price and quality range of knives so if you say it’s bad and it has issues I believe you.
man i'm so glad that i picked the magnacut malibu over this one, i was really back and forth paying $100 more and getting the tactile turn. sorry to hear about the issues you had, hope you got a replacement by this time!
I’ve seen this same issue with multiple tactile knives I own. I’m pretty sure this is because the washers aren’t the correct thickness. On a precision made knife, the washers need to be perfect. If they are too thin, they will be pinched on the front of the knife when it’s tightened to the point of getting the blade play out.
Vertical blade play is not acceptable, considering the two asking prices. I've only had one Benchmade with vertical axis lock play, which I immediately returned. None of my dozen other axis lock Benchmades have any vertical play. The single Hogue Deka 2 that I own has no vertical play. Tactile needs to get these dialed in right, before I give them my hard earned $$$. This is the same comment I left on Neeves Knives video review of the Maverick.
Seriously this is some whiney weird knife collector complaints. Leave it tight and break in the washers. Sounds like he wanted a drop shutty fidget toy instead of a knife.
Truth be told, I’m in the same boat. I sent mine back and was disappointed. I have also had a lot of Benchmades that gave me expected action. It is beautiful but that is all.
I get the complaint about blade play and lockup, I really do, I hate blade play myself, and the centering complaint is quite understandable too. However, I REALLY don't understand complaints about "drop shuttiness". I have no idea of why or how this became a favorable attribute in a knives' action. If my knife drops shut, fine, but I don't NEED it to.
Yeah I’ve had a few Axis Lock knives with a touch of side to side play. Even my 535-BK4 does…which drives me insane considering what I paid for it! But either way I’ve grown to not be too surprised when I see it (except on the few Ganzos I’ve owned, none of which have any lockup issues with that lock lol go figure). But that amount of vertical blade play is just outright unacceptable and potentially unsafe.
The Cmb predator is solid a f but I know what you mean . In order for a smooth action break in or deal with wiggle . Takes me about two months , lol . Actually most of them are cracked plots , tighten then crack the tightness.
If you want an amazing titanium axis style knife try (if you can find one) the TRM Shadow full ti. I picked one up at blade show last year and I don’t think it can get any better honestly.
I don’t know if this is a lemon or mine is, but I received micarta Maverick today. It has no bladeplay and great action (for me). I’m not big on the “gravity has to close the knife” action though… especially on washer knives. If it happens, like on my shaman, great! If it gets 50% there and needs a bit of help, like my maverick and deka, that’s fine too. Time will tell how it’ll break in.
Ultimately I would prefer sold lockup over action as well, but on this particular knife it doesn't matter how much you tighten the pivot, there is always play
bummer, my waiting list number should be up in a week or two and now i'm hesitating... evenmore because i won't be able to deal with sending it back to have it fixed/replaced as i'm abraod... decision decision!
That’s too bad. I’m on the waiting list too. Eeesh. Thanks for the video. The customer service guy said his has play too!!?? It is slightly common for an axis but not bad play like this. My Hogue Ritter has no play and that’s a 175$ US made axis. And my pulsar is top notch, that I got for roughly the same price but Chinese made.
Great video for anyone new or getting into knives. No matter what you pay there will be multiple knives that have issues on you enthusiasts/collector/knife lover journey. Even Reate lol
Never been a fan of axis locks. I have a few but just don’t like them as much as everyone else seems to. My bugout is the same as your maverick. The only way to get rid of blade play is to make it a 2 hand open and close. Really like the look of that knife there’s not many things more attractive than milled titanium.
@@codykirk3541 Mine is perfect as well, zero blade play up down side to side and the action is as smooth as a Chris Reeve. Anyone who knows how bronze washers work knows you don't loosen the pivot to make it drop shut or else you get exactly what he had, terrible blade play... but it was more drop shut.
@@LUC.Knives no worries, I was just joking anyway. I'm like number 4000 something from the sign up on their website, so if this one comes in with problems I'll just send it back and wait for my number to come up. I would think they would have shit worked out by then.
Like my Rockwall, the action is improving, still nowhere close to my BM, kunwu or kizers. But everything else is pretty nice. No blade play but the knife needs alot of coaxing to "swing" shut
I got mine a few days ago and I’ve had a really disappointing experience with it. The action is terrible. I have to two-hand close my maverick as well.
I’d say there’s nothing wrong with it, you just want it to be a fidget toy and it’s not. Bar locks typically have some blade play. It could be you got a bad one though
I wouldn’t recommend the Rockwall either. I mean if you plan to just flic it, fidget and not use it as a knife, it might be ok. But I don’t trust the lockup WHATSOEVER on my particular Rockwall to use it as a knife.
Tactile has zero quality control. I watched my friend unbox a rockwall directly from them that didn't even have a detent ball... I'm still excited for this, though.
That amount of blade play when the blade is dropping shut is definitely unacceptable. Initially I thought maybe it just needed to break in, but if you've owned as many premium crossbar lock knives as I have, you can instantly tell this is not right. You shouldn't have to tighten the pivot anywhere near that tight to eliminate blade play, especially with a titanium frame. And that's not even mentioning the vertical play, which is even worse to have. It's really a shame because I agree, visually this is a gorgeous knife. But aren't these around $330 new? I've had literally $25 crossbar lock knives that have absolutely rock solid lockup & instant drop shut action, even before being broken in. It's easier to achieve with bearings, but I've had this action or very close to it even on washer systems. I'm hoping it's just a matter of your stop pin being too short or too long, or maybe something causing your spacing between scales to be uneven from the rear to the front of the handle. The last thing I'll mention is, have you tried disassembling & reassembling it to ensure there's nothing seated incorrectly when it was put together? It's rare, but I've been able to fix similar issues just by reassembling knives in the past. But something tells me you're ultimately going to have to send it back to them so they can look it over. Definitely gives me second thoughts about buying any first run from Tactile, at least for a while. I did have an early run Rockwall that was fantastic, but I've heard the stories about other folks' knives having issues. Overall, I am rooting for them, of course. Please do a follow-up video to update us on what's going on with this! And good luck!
I agree you with 100 percent. Exactly Why I've always stayed away from any sort of axis lock type of knives. Should of made it a liner or frame lock instead
I have toured Tactile and own several. This video is well explained but how do we know the level of manipulation from your tinkering? Seems a little unfair. All Axis style knives aren't designed to be the same tolerance.
I've not disassembled the knife at all, just tried to adjust the pivot to eliminate play. I would be willing to sacrifice action for solid lockup, but that is not achievable on this knife
Is it a Bearing or Phosphorus Bronze Washer Folder? If it's on Washers, you need to break it in with use. If it's a Bearing Folder, it is suspect. A Bearing Folder should just drop. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
I feel like this is another example of a company rushing a knife to market before it’s ready without listening to what the community wants. You’re not the first to say this.
Good vid, the algorithym is bumping u cause i did not search for this. I'm not the most experienced here but i would sell it rather than sending it back to manufacturer, some designs simply do not function as well as others, no sense forcing the issue with so many other options.
Should have got a sog XR bro my terminus XR is slick….booom how you like that. Glad I didn’t jump on this with the hype. I’ll go get the lago and more sogs before this guy. It does look comfy just slap an axis, or xr or various others. Good stuff bro be real about this stuff!!
Way too many videos of the same issue for me. The Bexar and Rockwell seem to be generally well received but the Maverick seems to be worse than knives half it’s price. The Bugout is better and I paid $109 for it a couple of years ago.
Great stuff lately. They told the same shit to me which is a no no for the the price. I also have 50$ Chinese knives with better actions and no play in any direction. I love the design but I’ll see how it comes back :)
That’s a bummer. It really is a great looking knife, but if a $60 knife can lockup with great action, you would expect a $300 to work well. I hope they can fix it for you.
Man 350 it should be perfect bro! I would send it back for a refund. Hate to say it USA gotta pick up their game some have and I love it but some are lagging!
$350!!? For that much cash, it needs to be centered and not have subpar action and the blade flapping around. But that's just me. Too many other quality options for less. A lot less.
I’d have just returned it to the retailer for a refund. Axis locks have always sucked with the springy/sproingy detent! Should have seen my MSI. What a piece of shit€ that was yet many ahole reviewers praise it! Ram lock my a$$! Benchmade were doing that on the Anthem 10 yrs ago!
@@LUC.Knives sorry to hear that Sarge! Hopefully they will get it fixed for you. Seems like the washers aren’t lapped to the correct dimensions and the flat lock face on the blade is too far from the axis bar causing rock. Hope it works out for you bro. Its hardly rocket science! 🤦
Exactly why we have to see what some of these Tubers are and that is peddlers for big companies. That's how they make a living the more knives they can push as great the more money knowing dang well its trash. I mean nothing against C. but he loved the Msi.. sometimes we willn't hear the bad spoken because it will effect income. Something we should all keep in mind..
I have 4 Rockwalls, one of them a flipper and 3 Thumbstuds. They are all great knives. The Maverick is not on par with them at all. Terrible action, blade play can only be removed by setting the pivot so tight that you cannot use the knife. Sending this one back for a full refund
You would think if one doesn't have any experience in knife design, metallurgy, metal working, or anything having to do with the process of bringing a knife to fruition, I would think that individual would bring in people that do and consult with them in order to not make stupid mistakes. Even better would be actually learning and practicing the skills necessary to ensure a successful outcome. To me it seems that the designer, being a knife guy and going about knife making in this way is the equivalent of hucking a loogy into the wind....lol...I think if you respect your own community, you would want to make something special and clean , something that your peers would appreciate
Buy a Benchmade 😂😂😂😂🤷♂️ To bad shit happens… I think they will do the right thing … I’ve had problems with all kinds of knives with many detent ball’s flying out more often with customs… You made all valid points I feel differently with these types of situations I hold off, making a video until the situation is resolved. The experience can change how you feel later and making two videos. .. well .. might make you say something you change your mind on. I agree… sounds poor so far .. but I’ve been in this situation before where it starts out rough and ends up great even make a new buddy sometimes out of a shitty situation
i wouldn't have even made the video if their first response was "send it in and we'll get it sorted out" But they tried to convince me that "that's how it's supposed to be." If that's the case then i'll never buy another knife from them again because they have incredibly low standards
@@LUC.Knives That's exactly what they should have done. Unless giving you bullshit is their policy then maybe they should be looking at the representative Bear or what ever his name is. This is bullshit on another level. This ain't a two dollar knife for Christ sake. Good luck my friend. Definitely give us an update.
This is a knife that feels like Tactile rushed to market. Almost all of the Chinese OEMs have WAY better axis-style locks than this. My Kizer Drop Bear puts this to shame. Unacceptable at this price point and a really bad look for Tactile. Disappointing!
This is why I buy Chris Reeve - perfect construction and I refuse to buy Chinese. Tactile has a great thing going - U.S.A. made but they need to be better than this at $350!
Tactile owner/ceo…. I think…. Might be crooked… watch NEEVES video when he went to their factory!! Watch the ceo/owner I’m the start of that video!!!????!!! Now you see… ha
TIM TIM - No I don't see, just watched it again. What the heck are you talking about ? If you are going to leave information great, but what's with the cryptic clues ?
Honestly I gotta disagree on your first point. I have only seen a very few BMs and other Axis lock knives on washers that had a swinging blade AND no blade play. I think you should at least let it break in before commenting on the action and how the blade drops. Give those washers a little while to break in. The vertical play though, that is whack!
Dude my Rockwall thumbstud has the worst lock rock. They have completely ignored me. I dont even let the knife around my other knives I carry because it’s that bad. Total total total waste of $300. Id trade it for literally any other knife. Yeah they are usa made, so I appreciate that. But, in my experience, spend your money elsewhere with a manufacturer in the USA that is competent and makes knives that have a history of excellence. Not this crap.
Crap quality control. You shouldn't "hate to make videos like this". Crap workmanship should be called out...100%!! This crap shouldn't even be seen as acceptable on a knife one third the cost of this terrible Tactile knife. Tactile's customer services response to you, was also unacceptable. "Bear" might as well have told you "eff you...it is what it is. Deal with it".
I'm no machinist/knifesmith but boy that thing is not dialed in. For the price it oughtta come with like a go-kart or a life-size pleasure droid or somethin

Anyone who knows how bronze washers work knows you don't loosen the pivot to make it drop shut or else you get exactly what he had, terrible blade play... but it was more drop shut.
Oh, man. You couldn't put this video out a few hours ago before DLT did their drop? LOL, oh well, hopefully mine will be a good one.
wasnt even aware of the drop sorry
I had a Bexar and it had issues I ended up selling it luckily I only lost $10 on it
A lot of crossbar locks have that problem. The side to side part anyways
Any Hogue I've had hasn't
I wouldn’t recommend the Rockwall either. I mean if you plan to just flic it, fidget and not use it as a knife, it might be ok. But I don’t trust the lockup WHATSOEVER on my particular Rockwall to use it as a knife.
Dang. I wonder why they let that one go out. Quite expect more out of Tactile. Best of luck with the outcome!
Way to thin of scales for me. An updated version with liner lock or even somehow bolster lock now we have a knife. When I seen the axis lock I jst😢
Tactile with ANOTHER knife that has issues? Who could’ve seen this coming…
Way too many videos of the same issue for me. The Bexar and Rockwell seem to be generally well received but the Maverick seems to be worse than knives half it’s price. The Bugout is better and I paid $109 for it a couple of years ago.
Thanks. I would not have been happy with that.
Great stuff lately. They told the same shit to me which is a no no for the the price. I also have 50$ Chinese knives with better actions and no play in any direction. I love the design but I’ll see how it comes back :)
Just got one today with bad blade play. Put it right back in the box and returned for a refund 🤦🏻♂️
I agree about the design being great. Very unfortunate about the action and play esp. at this price : /
For the money that's totally unacceptable. At one point this was Benchmades norm
That’s a bummer. It really is a great looking knife, but if a $60 knife can lockup with great action, you would expect a $300 to work well. I hope they can fix it for you.
The knife is fine, you’re just picky.
You can see the blade play on video and that means it is awful
Man 350 it should be perfect bro! I would send it back for a refund. Hate to say it USA gotta pick up their game some have and I love it but some are lagging!
Rockwall still has issues. I wouldn’t buy another tactile. It’s a sloppy design. The materials seem to be quality however.
Returning via retailer isn't an option for me or I would've done that. I got mine via proxy at Blade Texas
@@zbaird3 i make zero dollars on YT
@@LUC.Knives not you buddy and I don't mean all UA-camrs we have to have info out like your video so I appreciate UA-cam creators like you..
i will NEVER buy another tactile knife and im legit dead serious i had two rockwalls, late lock up, blade wiggle poor action on both
I have 4 Rockwalls, one of them a flipper and 3 Thumbstuds. They are all great knives. The Maverick is not on par with them at all. Terrible action, blade play can only be removed by setting the pivot so tight that you cannot use the knife. Sending this one back for a full refund
This is satire about how UA-camrs who make knives don't actually know anything about knife making, right??
So there's nothing wrong here?
Hey man I never did get an email from you.. Not sure if you saw my video with you in the title or not?
You would think if one doesn't have any experience in knife design, metallurgy, metal working, or anything having to do with the process of bringing a knife to fruition, I would think that individual would bring in people that do and consult with them in order to not make stupid mistakes. Even better would be actually learning and practicing the skills necessary to ensure a successful outcome. To me it seems that the designer, being a knife guy and going about knife making in this way is the equivalent of hucking a loogy into the wind....lol...I think if you respect your own community, you would want to make something special and clean , something that your peers would appreciate
@@ak4dreday what knife or person are you talking about? Tactile isn’t a UA-camr and Mike didn’t design this. Maybe i misunderstood ur comment
UA-camrs suck cuz they design knives and have them made, but don’t actually make knives. Then UA-camrs suck cuz they learn to make knives 🤣
Buy a Benchmade 😂😂😂😂🤷♂️
To bad shit happens… I think they will do the right thing … I’ve had problems with all kinds of knives with many detent ball’s flying out more often with customs…
You made all valid points I feel differently with these types of situations I hold off, making a video until the situation is resolved.
@@LUC.Knives fair..
If you aren’t going to honest you shouldn’t be making videos. I appreciate your honesty.
😬
I'm no machinist/knifesmith but boy that thing is not dialed in. For the price it oughtta come with like a go-kart or a life-size pleasure droid or somethin
