The Americans should not just issue press releases but rather should start make concrete plans. The American government has enormous power to incentivize American technology corporations to invest big in the Philippines in semiconductor(moving up the hierarchy) , data centers and AI innovations. Japan is already the biggest investor in the Philippines. The Japanese walk the talk unlike the Americans thus far.Because of this the Philippines is grateful to the Japanese and will further liberalize its economy to make Japanese investments in the Philippines even more profitable. As allies and longest trade partners the Americans ought to invest most heavily in the Philippines in all of ASEAN.Both America and the Philippines share similar democratic values. Other areas of investment are in nuclear and renewable energy, battery and EV production,industrial-scale mechanized agriculture farming, mineral resource harnessing, shipbuilding(together with Japan or South Korea),telecommunications and internet technology and education in science and technology . America can start with importing agricultural produce 5x of the current turnover and 10x of the electronics' current turnover. There's no shame in asking America this as both are true partners. It's been 3 decades since the Americans were asked to leave and dismantle their military bases in Philippine soil and since then America has largely ignored the Philippines' dream of economic development. The Americans have shown that they can be merciless too but still the Filipinos remain to be a forgiving people. But enough of that ,let's turn a new page and make this be a beginning of true partnership where both countries can benefit.

They could have the most beautiful island in the world. The Philippines is sitting in the most strategic place in the world. Could have controlled the region including China and tripled their economy. The best the U.S. can do now is to make this country their foothold in Asia to counter and show the ASEAN that there is a true alternative over the loan shark BELT AND ROAD INITIATIVES of China. The Marcos Jr Administration has already awarded nearly 1000 power service contracts since July, 2022, many in the area of renewables. There are less brownouts now and the cost of electricity no longer reaches 17-22 pesos per kwh unlike before when some places in the Philippines were hit with power costs that high.

To be fair,, what about the US advantage on your investment in PH,, do not downgrade PH because you invest in it,, US have more advantage in PH rather than PH have advantage on US market,,
It's about time to decouple from China. Source out our products from ASEAN and other countries if we don't have one. But it is better if it is made locally.
American promises are double standard. Very difficult to understand when it comes to business agreements. Who is very good on suing, breaching agreements, patenting others' invention and sanctioning other countries? Need to learn.
He said that "EXPENSIVE LABOR" is a roadblock to investment in the Philippines. IS HE SERIOUS? Does he want to even lower the very low minimum wage already? 😊
Labor isn't that expensive but the cost of doing business is caused by the economy that is too much regulated that only the oligarchs benefit known as rent seekers. Get rid of rent seekers and you'll see your economy expands and create more jobs for even more competitive salary offers.
@BatAskal not true. Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam all has limits to foreign ownership also. Philippines is doing well, growing at 6 percent up for 2 decades already beating it's neighbours. BGC is just 20 years old and it's the MOST modern little city in the world. More BGC like mini cities are coming. 😊
@@JoeyZee-vs4kr Let them have their foreign ownership limits but let's think outside of the box. Philippines can unlock so much more economic potential if there is no foreign ownership limits of businesses. It encourages Filipinos to innovate and form start up companies faster and improve our supply chains due to increased capital formation by further bringing down the costs of doing businesses and increase competition in wages and salaries. It also forces the rent seekers to 'earn their paycheck' by investing more into industries and not concentrate too much on real estate to keep themselves competitive.
@BatAskal foreigners can own 100 percent of their business if they locate in PEZA or special economic zones in Philippines. Philippines is doing fine except in semi conductors where it's only in assembling business and not into pure manufacturing. I hope this is where America should help.
@@JoeyZee-vs4kr America can only help promote Philippines for their investors. Philippines has to do a lot more of its homework to convince these investors that it is the best place to do business and not Vietnam, Indonesia or India. So far with all these investment sweeteners the government has been promoting, it isn't really convincing them enough to risk their supply chains in the Philippines getting disrupted by government corruption, legal uncertainties, unstable political environment, unresolved labor disputes, intermittent power issues and inadequate infrastructure that allows them to scale up their production. Philippines got no 'collateral' like China or India with their massive population for a potential market of their products. Add in too much regulation in contravening the laissez faire principle in favor of the economic elitists (aka rent seekers) and you have every reason the investor is not willing to put their money to expand their businesses.
If only govt can subsidize the electricity like in other sea country for sure investors will flock to our country. but i guess there are restrictions. filipinos don't understand this keep comparing us to Vietnam where they don't know that Vietnam electricity is heavily subsidize by their govt, so they have an edge on attracting investors. Now they plan to subsidize electricity on charging stations for EVs to promote EV vehicles..
If the US really want a prosperity Philippines, they should invest long time ago as their military bases there. Why only talk about it now. I bet they don’t want to see Philippines getting rich which may affect the exist of their military bases.
BRICS is aimed at empowering China. The Philippines does not require China’s support. During Duterte’s administration, China promised to loan $35 billion to the Philippines, but it was only talk without action.
It's actually insulting that the US startup ecosystem invests more in Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore etc... PH is currently an after thought. 1 million died fighting alongside the US in WW2 and got nothing in return. Hope that now the US realises how valuable PH can be and start to encourage PROPER investments in PH and nudge their VC and other multinationals to invest in a long time ally.
Blaming another country’s choice of where to invest isn’t the main issue that you should consider. The policies/ conditions the Philippines government imposes on prospective investors is the main hindrance to committing to a major investment in the country.
Philippines is an agricultural country. It has massive unproductive lands across. Make wealth out of these lands like neighboring countries like Taiwan and etc. Select the best person for ministry of agriculture. IMO

Its already happening brother, we are already creating semiconductors.

This presentation shouldn't have been necessary in the first place, the fact that this presentation occurred means the US-Philippines alliance is dysfunctional and in need of critical improvement.
The US Govt is serious about supporting the Philippines..but the US companies are investing elsewhere...
That's because the policies made by those crockies is not favorable for the investors, not even for the local Industries to expand.
Fix the electrical infrastructure first. Philippines is one of the most expensive if not the most expensive in SEA in regards to electricity.😅
@@itsmekj3325actually it's favored some Filipino business tycoons because they could control the economy of business. Of course politicians have to be blamed for this since the Philippines Constitution is stupid and full of loopholes and it serves only those people and politicians who are greedy enough to devour the entire economy and future of the Philippines. But thanks to the present government administration even though it faces constitutional and policies restrictions it strived to encourage Foreign Direct Investment thru economic reforms and amendments. And it also encourages local tycoons to be international competitive and think globally. I hope the Filipino citizens will stop over politicking and amend their constitution and policies.

@@raptorgonzo4666 actually the price of electricity from other countries such as SEA is much more expensive than the Philippines. The only thing that these countries have an edge in regards to the price of electricity is that their electricity price is one way or the other subsidized by the government. The Philippines as of this time could not do it due to economic restrictions and of course you have to blame those people and politicians who destroyed the Philippines Electric economy after the ouster of then President Marcos Sr. It's a fact and it's very sad.

Hmmmmm, imagine if the U.S. was patient enough, and respected the Filipinos, they could have taken the islands and joined the union.
The rich natural resources of this island are enormous. They could have the most beautiful island in the world.
The Philippines is sitting in the most strategic place in the world. Could have controlled the region including China and tripled their economy.
The best the U.S. can do now is to make this country their foothold in Asia to counter and show the ASEAN that there is a true
alternative over the loan shark BELT AND ROAD INITIATIVES of China.
If the U.S., Japan, and South Korea failed or demonstrate to advance the Philippines, the U.S. is done in Indo Pacific region.
It is not patience. The fruit companies wanted to protect their slave labor and racism in the US at the time would not allow a non-white territories to be come states. That is why DR and Haiti are also not part of the US
US gives the PH a chance to join as one of the state. But with the influence of oligarchic businessmen and dynastic family to make sure to hold power in PH, Filipinos voted not to join. As history shows, they succeed controlling PH.

US should help us in the economic front by investing in key industries like the chips supply chain and stop all efforts of other sectors to interfere in the political front. Stop all the propaganda about the West Philippine sea.

The Marcos Jr Administration has already awarded nearly 1000 power service contracts since July, 2022, many in the area of renewables.

It is a pity that we are getting a miniscule amount of foreign investments as compared to Vietnam. Our government should make it a priority to lower the cost of electricity as it is one of the most expensive in the region.

It's about time to decouple from China. Source out our products from ASEAN and other countries if we don't have one. But it is better if it is made locally.

Intrigues? u mean intrigues from davao?
At the moment there's not much physical and digital infrastructure in mindanao to attract FDI. THis is a chicken or egg issue.

Talk talk talk. Put dollars down and start key projects, then people will take these statements seriously.

Vietnamese are way smarter than filipinos...... Vietnam have Vinfast, the Philippines have Sarao Jeepney😅
Que! To invest in Real estate…
To be fair,, What about the advantage of US of all the investment you made
A stronger Philippines both economically and militarily will drive away China's aggression in the region
Wow....
It's true. It's not China.
If the US really want a prosperity Philippines, they should invest long time ago as their military bases there. Why only talk about it now. I bet they don’t want to see Philippines getting rich which may affect the exist of their military bases.
most asean joining brics except the Philippines.
BRICS is aimed at empowering China. The Philippines does not require China’s support. During Duterte’s administration, China promised to loan $35 billion to the Philippines, but it was only talk without action.
brics is an idea thats all. AN IDEA to counter US dollar
