    My stab on the question about why Luzon corridor? Bec as an investor you want your investment to have more milage and advantage with its already existing infra. Now once the investment grows and progress more then spillover happens and spreads more outside that corridor and towards other places in the PH. But investing to a region with more capex due to lesser infra then the return will be less (due to opex) and future expansion will be less and slower as well for growth. Be patient mga kabayan. What is important is vote wisely, responsibly and peace and unity to prevail, thinking of the future not with short sightedness of politics and avoid destabilization para sa atin din ito.

    This is how i view it. Private US corporations don’t want to invest in the Philippines bec they see it to be an expensive destination to do business. It cuts to their bottom line in terms of shareholder values and CEO compensation. So they gravitate towards Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc. Colgate left and now my toothpaste is made in Thailand. Ford and Chevrolet? Made in Thailand. There is hardly any consumer products that are made in the Philippines. Most are made in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. Intel left and moved its operations to another SEA country. They’d rather invest in Vietnam. While the Philippines shares the US’ democratic and religious values, it gets peanuts in terms of FDI. And we need manufacturing FDI since long term stable jobs are there.

How many are employed under Chinese investments?

    • @vareseources

      You should not be saying this if you are living in Calabarzon, Clark, Cebu, and other places with PEZA, very few legal Chinese manufacturing companies operate inside PEZAs. The manufacturing sector shares 17% of GDP. It's always Japan, Korea, the US, and Germany. It's always good to read and watch the news. As someone who worked in Manufacturing for 15 years, I have never heard of a Chinese company paying for good salary inside any PEZA here. All companies inside PEZA are a result of foreign investment.
      BPO, which provides 7.5% of GDP is majority Americans, right? People only see Chinese products in the market but are not aware of the US impact on the economy.
      Another sector that is not known to many is the "work from home" sector. There is no data on this as of yet but if you are a WFH worker, you should know this is a billion-dollar industry. And all of the clients are from the West.

      First of all, “OUR ECONOMY IS NOT CONTROLLED BY CHINA”. Get your facts right.
      We are fully diversified economically not only having partners with just one country, i.e. China or the US.
      Portions of those exports of perishable goods that you mentioned was cancelled by China doesn’t affects the economy as a whole. Exporters were affected yes, but it doesn’t stopped our economy from growing.
      Our economic growth can only be successful if we Filipinos works together for the better good not by self interest.

      @@vareseources What I'm saying are the Philippines need hard infra. Like railways, bridges. Imagine if subways is build 10yrs ago and the other ongoing railways project. Also the Mindanao railways need to be started, and areas in visayas like cebu, if you want regular filipino to feel the U.S and it's allies you those infrastructure. My fear is when Sara win in 2028 and she is the one who can implement the railways in Mindanao and visayas using china, then that's a big blow to the U.S in my opinion, because they can leverage that to build up Chinese propaganda. And now Vietnam already overtaken the Philippines in terms of per Capita income and mostly thier hard infra were coming from china, if Vietnam overtaken Philippines completely using Chinese, then thier will be a perception to the public that the U.S is not enough.

  • @phoenix5054

    I see a lot of Filipinos that are skeptic of US investment when it literally is our government preventing this to happen. High degree of corruption, bad infrastructure, expensive electricity, and that 60-40 ownership barrier has prevented major investments in the country. They would rather invest in a non-ally like Vietnam.

    The Americans should not just issue press releases but rather should start make concrete plans. The American government has enormous power to incentivize American technology corporations to invest big in the Philippines in semiconductor(moving up the hierarchy) , data centers and AI innovations.
    Japan is already the biggest investor in the Philippines.The Japanese walk the talk unlike the Americans thus far.Because of this the Philippines is grateful to the Japanese and will further liberalize its economy to make Japanese investments in the Philippines even more profitable.
    As allies and longest trade partners the Americans ought to invest most heavily in the Philippines in all of ASEAN.Both America and the Philippines share similar democratic values.
    Other areas of investment are in nuclear and renewable energy,battery and EV production,industrial-scale mechanized agriculture farming, mineral resource harnessing, shipbuilding(together with Japan or South Korea),telecommunications and internet technology and education in science and technology .
    America can start with importing agricultural produce 5x of the current turnover and 10x of the electronics' current turnover.There's no shame in asking America this as both are true partners.
    It's been 3 decades since the Americans were asked to leave and dismantle their military bases in Philippine soil and since then America has largely ignored the Philippines' dream of economic development. The Americans have shown that they can be merciless too but still the Filipinos remain to be a forgiving people.But enough of that ,let's turn a new page and make this be a beginning of true partnership where both countries can benefit.

    Hmmmmm, imagine if the U.S. was patient enough, and respected the Filipinos, they could have taken the islands and joined the union.
    The rich natural resources of this island are enormous. They could have the most beautiful island in the world.
    The Philippines is sitting in the most strategic place in the world. Could have controlled the region including China and tripled their economy.
    The best the U.S. can do now is to make this country their foothold in Asia to counter and show the ASEAN that there is a true
    alternative over the loan shark BELT AND ROAD INITIATIVES of China.
    If the U.S., Japan, and South Korea failed or demonstrate to advance the Philippines, the U.S. is done in Indo Pacific region.

      @BatAskal 23 дні тому

      Labor isn't that expensive but the cost of doing business is caused by the economy that is too much regulated that only the oligarchs benefit known as rent seekers. Get rid of rent seekers and you'll see your economy expands and create more jobs for even more competitive salary offers.

    • @JoeyZee-vs4kr

      @BatAskal not true. Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam all has limits to foreign ownership also.
      Philippines is doing well, growing at 6 percent up for 2 decades already beating it's neighbours.

    • @BatAskal
      @BatAskal 23 дні тому

      @@JoeyZee-vs4kr Let them have their foreign ownership limits but let's think outside of the box. Philippines can unlock so much more economic potential if there is no foreign ownership limits of businesses. It encourages Filipinos to innovate and form start up companies faster and improve our supply chains due to increased capital formation by further bringing down the costs of doing businesses and increase competition in wages and salaries. It also forces the rent seekers to 'earn their paycheck' by investing more into industries and not concentrate too much on real estate to keep themselves competitive.

    • @JoeyZee-vs4kr
      @JoeyZee-vs4kr 23 дні тому

      @BatAskal foreigners can own 100 percent of their business if they locate in PEZA or special economic zones in Philippines. Philippines is doing fine except in semi conductors where it's only in assembling business and not into pure manufacturing. I hope this is where America should help.

    • @BatAskal
      @BatAskal 23 дні тому

      @@JoeyZee-vs4kr America can only help promote Philippines for their investors. Philippines has to do a lot more of its homework to convince these investors that it is the best place to do business and not Vietnam, Indonesia or India. So far with all these investment sweeteners the government has been promoting, it isn't really convincing them enough to risk their supply chains in the Philippines getting disrupted by government corruption, legal uncertainties, unstable political environment, unresolved labor disputes, intermittent power issues and inadequate infrastructure that allows them to scale up their production. Philippines got no 'collateral' like China or India with their massive population for a potential market of their products. Add in too much regulation in contravening the laissez faire principle in favor of the economic elitists (aka rent seekers) and you have every reason the investor is not willing to put their money to expand their businesses.
