I had to replace this rear transmission mount on our 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. We were experiencing a growling and rattling whenever sitting at a stop with the transmission in gear. The growls and rattles went away when we placed the transmission in neutral.
I made the vain mistake of trying to change it without removing the wiper housing and it took me about an hour of trying to figure out that removing it would be necessary to get to the rear driver side bolt. As it turned out, we had a lot of debris inside the wiper housing that may have been causing water to leak into the cabin, so it worked out for good.
I also struggled trying to use a universal joint on the front bolt because when I backed the bolt out, the universal joint would get jammed against a flange that holds the O2 sensor connectors. I found that I needed to remove both rear bolts before attempting to remove the front bolt so that the mount could rise up and allow me to pull the universal out when the bolt was loose.
Another mistake I think I made was to run the long mount bolt through the mount before installing the three mounting bolts. I thought it would be easier to do it then, because it cannot be removed or installed with the engine mount secured to the frame. It made it difficult to align the front bolt because of the pressure on the mount to twist it toward the driver side. So, I recommend starting all three bolts a few threads before installing the mount bolt. That would allow the mount to float up about a half inch, making it easier to align the mount bolt, and then easier to tighten the three bolts that hold it to the frame.
All in all, it took me about 3.5 hours (and the loss of some of my Sunday School language while cursing design engineers). If I had removed the wiper housing and used a little more common sense that my daddy taught me, I might have gotten it done in about 1.5 hours.
In the end, no more growl and no more rattling. :)

I know this is old but im having the same growling vibration at idle especially when taking off from a stop, is that trans mount your talking about one of the 4 motor mounts or are those different mounts? Thanks in advance

@@somefella6881 Yes. It is the mount that is behind the transmission, near the firewall on the driver side of the car. I ended up replacing the front mount as well, but the rear one was completely worn out, such that the bolt was hitting the metal, which resulted in the growling.

I highly recommend you go into your creator settings, edit this video, and turn on stabilization. It will remove most of the shakiness, allowing people to see clearly what you are doing.

The shield protects the mount from exhaust pipe head - it's not an option to leave it off. Thanks for the video.

I must admit, this angle you chose to tackle this mount removal is the completion as addition to all videos on this job. I was already picturing the removal of the wiper cowl and assembly. I recently went under to view all possible angles and I took photos. One thing I did not see, was rips or physical damage to the mount rubber, as I saw on the front mount. So I may just leave it alone. It is unfortunate that there is alot of shakiness but it is clear enough to indicate what is what. So, thumbs up my friend.

Thanks for the video! It will help me get this done on my 2002 Town & Country. The front of my engine is too far forward. The lower front pulley was touching the lower water hose. I changed the front motor mount, which was broken. It's still too far forward so I think the rear mount needs changing too. Your video helped me see what needs to be done.

I like your work videos. Please paint your pointer a white, yellow or color that does not look like a shadow of gray. Lighting needs improvement. I generally use three round shop lights (left, center, right) with reflectors and clamps to work on my car in the garage or dark outside. Thanks for your helping us.

You mentioned an adjustable on the end of the extension. Are you talking about a swivel socket or swivel extension? It would helpful if you left a link in the description of that tool so we can have an idea.

I wondered the same thing. But it's easy. You can see it AND touch it :) And if that didn't help, try the service manual ---- oskin.ru/pub/chrysler-dodge/manuals/Service%20Manuals/2002_RG_Town&Country_Caravan_Voyager/02rge.pdf
