I’m obsessed with your blue ribbed sweater! I want to try knitting without a pattern but I’m so intimidated. Does your sewing knowledge help you when you design your own patterns?

Thank you so much! I would say it helps but defo not necessary. I was making crocheted garments before I had any sort of sewing or pattern cutting knowledge, a great way to start is making a gauge swatch in whatever yarn you want to use and take measurements from something you love a lot, doesn’t have to be a knit piece it could be like a sweatshirt and try and replicate the fit and measurements. It’ll help you learn how many stitches, rows and shaping you may need and then you can start to experiment when you have the basics !

i totally agree about acrylic! i too migrated from crochet to knitting and before this i didn't even know what acrylic (yarn) is, let along tell the difference between different fibers. now i cannot stand it. i also don't like crocheted clothes anymore, the ones i made (i made 7-8 of them) no longer feel right - they're so thick and stiff, and half of them i made in acrylic. i just finished my first knitted top (it's a ranunculus) last week and i cannot stop wearing it. is knitting just superior for garments?

I think it really depends on what your making, for example I love to make more ‘lace’ stitches in crochet as it’s way quicker than knit for me, but doesn’t have the stiffness of pieces made in just sc or dc crochet stitches. Same with acrylic, I don’t mind it so much for certain things, I actually use a lot of my scraps for things like punch needle rugs! I think it’s all just about balance and finding what works best for different pieces

I love the cardigans. How long do they take you to knit?

It varies depending on yarn weight, the petrol one took me about a week and a half working on it but I was off work work at the time so normally not that fast, though I do spend a lot of time knitting! Maybe like 40 ish hours completely? Including all the weaving ends etc

hello, for the cardigans did you pick up stitches at the end to knit the button band, or did you work it while working the body? I hope this question makes sense.

I pick them up at the end for these ones, so that the rib goes in the opposite direction :)
