Beautiful! Thank you Father Chris. How Mary Magdalene must have endeared herself to Our Lord. The other followers were locked up in their rooms. Yet here was this simple, humble woman, trying to accompany Our Lord in the only way she knew. We have much to learn from this beautiful soul. How she moved the heart of Jesus! She’s the first one he appears to after his Resurrection. What a gift. What a gift to have the Risen Lord say your name. Despite her anguish she wishes to honor her Lord who she is about to discover is God. In moments of trial and pain, do I remember to honor God with my thoughts, desires, intentions and actions? My 37 year old daughter is a prostitute. She has no other employment to pay her and my granddaughter’s rent and to live. Was a nurse, became chronically ill and cannot do anything much. Kept having toxic boyfriends so she could have money. Has been beaten badly. She rents our Condo. She prays and she says the girls she works with are very kind - all stuck in bad situations. I and she know prostitution is wrong. We used to help her as much as we could - helped bring up our granddaughter. But now we are retired and poor. All I can do is pray for her. I have great hope that she will be able to give up her job. I love her very much!

Is it a Church teaching that Mary Magdalene was Martha's sister? I think I heard a few times that it was previously an assumption based on the name, but now we mostly think Martha's sister was a different woman.

To me the reason why Christ told her not to touch Him was to prepare her for His Ascension, to prevent her from developing an attachment to His physical presence. Breaking attachments is a part of contemplative formation. St. Thomas had a different motive for touching Christ.

Mary Magdalene, was a sinner who's sins were forgiven because she had "loved much" [Luke 7: 47] in anointing Jesus one week before his passion, death and burial [Luke 7: 37-50; Mark 14: 3-9]. Our Lord makes one further remark foretelling a fact that has fulfilled itself. He says of her "wherever in the world this gospel is preached, what she has done shall be told in memory of her." Remember that the LAST THING Mary Magdalene and the Disciples ever expected, in going to the tomb with oils and spices to anoint the body of Jesus on that first Easter Sunday, was a Resurrection. A Resurrection did NOT enter their minds. The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus was NOT among them. The BVM already knew that Jesus had risen from the dead, and there was no need to go to the tomb on Easter Sunday to anoint His body, because He was Risen!

A sinner Magdalene who have first person who has given the opportunity to meet the resurrected Jesus. For me there is special goodness inside Mary Magdalene that Jesus had given her a special role and favor to see him personally. Amazing sinner like us also has hope to be save as long as we repent and amend our lives.

St. Mary Magdalene was Lazarus and Martha's sister; this was the richest family in Jerusalem. I would say the proper translation would be in today's language "playgirl". Her conversion is one I am envious of and ask for Her prayers regularly. Her and her brother and sister were called "friends" by Jesus Himself! this can be found in the books "Poem of the Man-God"!!! also Jesus had already appeared to His Mother before He appeared to St. Mary Magdalene; also recorded in the same books.

I used to volunteer at the the Society of St Mary Magdalene associated with the Dominicans in France who care for her relics and live at the Monastery at La Sainte Baume at the cave she lived in after fleeing to France. Please read the book about St Mary Magdalene based on Bl Ann Catherine Emmerich's writings. Another reliable book is "Saint Mary Magdalene Her Life and Times. St Mary Magdalene was Martha and Lazarus sister. Many wrong ideas about this important saint.

Is it a Church teaching that Mary Magdalene was Martha's sister? I think I heard a few times that it was previously an assumption based on the name, but now we mostly think Martha's sister was a different woman.
It’s not a Church teaching like the Trinity. More like a question that’s been discussed by various people over the years, including Popes.
Opinions differ based on evidence and interpretation, but it’s not an actual Church teaching or doctrine.
Mary Magdalene was a younger sister of Lazarus and Martha. Lazarus was a just and virtuous man and a very devout disciple of Jesus Our Lord, and was a very rich, a billionaire in today's terms. Mary Magdalene was a playgirl and a famous public scandal. She is the sinful woman in Luke who washed Our Lord's feet with her tears. After conversion, she became a very devout and brave disciple and was very close Our Heavenly Mother. Lazarus helped Our Lord greatly during Our Lord's Ministry. The Last Supper was celebrated at one of Lazarus' mansions. Details can be found in the Poem of Man-God by Maria Valtorta.

The writings of Maria Valtorta, an Italian mystic, who was given a first hand look at the life of Our Lady, Jesus and the Apostles gives almost a day by day of happenings surrounding them. Mary Magdalene is the patron saint of the contemplative life and of women. To me the reason why Christ told her not to touch Him was to prepare her for His Ascension, to prevent her from developing an attachment to His physical presence. Breaking attachments is a part of contemplative formation. St. Thomas had a different motive for touching Christ.

Is it correct that Mary Magdalene, Mary of Bethany, and the "sinful woman" from Luke 7 are the same person? I believe I saw that Mary of Bethany has her memorial on July 29th, together with her brother Lazarus, and that Pope Paul VI removed the identification of Mary Magdalene with Mary of Bethany in 1969.

Mary Magdalene, was a sinner who's sins were forgiven because she had "loved much" [Luke 7: 47] in anointing Jesus one week before his passion, death and burial [Luke 7: 37-50; Mark 14: 3-9]. Our Lord makes one further remark foretelling a fact that has fulfilled itself. He says of her "wherever in the world this gospel is preached, what she has done shall be told in memory of her." [Mark 14: 9].

according to Maria Valtorta's the poem of man-god, she was the younger sister of Lazarus of Theophilos in Bethany. and that she was not a prostitute, rather had scandalous love affairs to her family's disgrace. i just wonder if there be some kind of cultural gap over these kind of issues between then and now.

Remember that the LAST THING Mary Magdalene and the Disciples ever expected, in going to the tomb with oils and spices to anoint the body of Jesus on that first Easter Sunday, was a Resurrection. A Resurrection did NOT enter their minds. The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus was NOT among them. The BVM already knew that Jesus had risen from the dead, and there was no need to go to the tomb on Easter Sunday to anoint His body, because He was Risen!
