  • Starting from Wilmington Pike and stopping at Second and Ludlow Streets.
Downtown Dayton was populated and energetic as I have continually found it to be.

At 4:07 is intersection of 5th and Wayne with St. Paul Lutheran Church where I grew up and worked as director of music for 4 years. Like most of Dayton, it is now closed/

Michael Heinz: I sometimes visited that church back in the late 90s when I lived in the district. It was a very nice experience.
I find it sad when old churches like that close down. I hope the city doesn't destroy the building, but I wouldn't be surprised if that happens.

@@dayton2955 They are supposed to preserve the 160 year old building which is gorgeous on the inside. Don't know any further plans.

@@dayton2955 I was baptised at St. Paul Lutheran in 1941 and served as organist-choirmaster there from 1966-1970 when my late husband was the assistant pastor. Grew up in North Riverdale and was in first graduating class of Colonel White HS in 1959 even though the school was 40 years old. We split from Fairview HS. We moved to Alexandria, VA in 1970 where I was organist-choirmaster at St. Paul's Episcopal Church for 36 years.- Growing up we had 5 or 6 movie theaters downtown and Rike's department store at 2nd and Main where the Schuster Center is. Rike's had 9 selling floors and was one of the top stores in the country. Fifth and Wayne was known as "Filth and Wine."

At 1:20 - - one of my favorite places in the whole world! They Mail Order, BTW. Many of the homes in his area are beautiful examples of old craftsmanship!

I've always liked this Wayne Avenue strip too as well as the neighborhoods and old houses around there (Creighton Ave. etc).
As far as Esther Price goes, I personally know of no other producer of chocolate that comes close to competing with their quality. My parents now live outside of Ohio, and when the holidays roll around, they pretty much expect a box of chocolates from EP as well as pizza from Marion's.

@@dayton2955 I did a taste test of Esther Price and Godiva side-by-side. Godiva was heavenly, but it came in second to Esther Price!!

Lovely. I think I crashed my father's car at that first light. Ah, the memories!
