This clip is dedicated to the memory of "Kelly Groucutt" (bass player & backing vocalist). Rest in peace cowboy you will be sadly missed :-( but your mark in history we will strive to revive!
Yes at last here it is... the in-sync & fully remastered "original" version of the 70s orchestral style cowboy number "Wild West Hero".
To hear it in glorious "stereo" go to:
• Electric Light Orchest...
"Wild West Hero" is a song by the Electric Light Orchestra, and the closing track and third single from their 1977 album Out of the Blue. The song was written and composed by the bands lead singer Jeff Lynne. Melvyn Gale, normally the band's cellist, provided the Western-style piano for this track.
It entered the UK Top 40 at No. 31 in June 1978 but fell to No. 36 the following week. Thanks to a rush-release in 12" format on yellow vinyl, its fortunes were reversed a week later, and within six weeks it had risen to a peak position of No. 6. Coincidentally this was also the highest UK position achieved by the group's previous single, Mr. Blue Sky, and the next two, Sweet Talkin' Woman and Shine a Little Love.

My Dad (a doctor) and I would go visit all his sick patients in the dark evenings with ELO on the car stereo and we'd attempt the amazing harmonies in this song between houses. Such great memories of my departed dad here. Miss you daddy. Thank you xxx
A lovely story...nice to have memories
Absolutely outstanding song, amazing composition and layering of multiple instruments, voices and orchestra. Jeff Lynne the genius at work here....get goosebumps listening to it as evokes so many memories for me. .My favourite ELO song by a country mile!
Mine too! Since I was 15
I would agree however I picked, "sweet talking woman, by a fraction this song is a complete masterpiece of music by only a music genius called Jeff Lynne
I am a first hour fan, impossible for me to pick one favorite song.
A masterpiece, Jeff Lynne is a rock hero
The orchestration and construction of this classic is simply breath taking, particularly during the last minute or so. What a genius
One of my very favourite songs by ELO. Takes me back to when I was 16, 45 years ago love it
Me too...
Are you a Brit, William?
@@Cosmo-Kramer what?
@@GUR-ARYEA I wasn't talking to you.
@@Cosmo-Kramer ok
Cant put a price on this tune ! Kids of today , clueless 🙄🤣
Pure CLASS 👌
Nice to see Jeff Lynne without his dark glasses.....'the eyes have it'!!
ELO’s greatest song in my view - superb melody, harmonies, gear-changes & Jeff Lynne vocal
Is captivating enchanting, paralyzing, acclaiming, acclaiming like Richard Tandy in his piano is so sublime, dazzling, phenomenal, impeccabled, sensational, stupendous, marvelous, a master-piece, an work of art, fabulous ELO BAND is the legendary ELETRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA is a gem, is a rare and precious jewell!!. STUPENDOUS ELO BAND, THE GIANT, ELO THE BIGGEST, THE BIGGER BAND!!!.
The songs by electric light orchestra are beyond whatever I expect sometimes. I always go into a new song in their albums thinking that it’ll be as great as the last, and then it immediately is greater than the last.
This song makes you feel good.
One of the best endings to any song out there! ELO ROCKS!
Absolutely amazing. If the stones released that it would be getting all the plaudits, so it shows what an outstanding band ELO really were 🎉❤
The Stones are a sloppy garage band compared to ELO.
No words the harmonies, perfection.
ELO, going on summer holidays,Mum, Dad, Brothers and Sister, radio blasting, great memories
Greatest song 💗
Out of the Blue I wanted to hear this song again
And here I am for the very same reason ☺️
Clever 😂
RIP Richard Tandy
An absolute stunning timeless classic
A classic song that has never dated 👌
I love this so much…. Oh to be 20 years older 😭❤️
What a lovely ending to a spectacular album. Still tingles the soul when listened to after all these years. Must be played LOUD!
Love this song..for me, their best song.
The band and the song ...both wonderful ❤❤❤❤❤❤

JEFF YOU ARE GORGEOUS XXX

That is a perfect example of a good song.

Great song!! Really has that Lone Ranger vibe to it
Love this song since childhood. Love this video since now cuz Jeff isn't wearing glasses!
Classic elo and probably one of there best songs 🎵
Just amazing from beginning to end
Love this song!
Just fabulous
I didn't. But there was a passion that that did something. Was never sure what it was
Every time I see this I think how fun it would be to get lost in Jeff's hair!
Roy Rogers appears at the end of this!
Not Roy Rogers. Monty Montana. He was granted special permission to "lasso" President Dwight Eisenhower at his inaugural parade.
who else kinda wants to be an Indian in Jeff Lynne's wild west story
My blood boilin' like lava. One day I'm gonna be a Hero just like he said. and A perfect song for RDR3.
Edit: This song gave me a reminds rdr2 experience from 3:43 to end.
Was that Roy Rogers? Great guy.
No. See above comment...
I wish loura was here.let us go with or with out.
Jeff really wanted that green card
And Kelly out of the band
I find the things you see when you haven't got a Gun ?
jeff you were good looking when you were younger Cute xx
Can't help but feel the band went 'Whaaattt?' when they saw the plan for the video. A tad cheesy...
Can’t get enough of ELO....
Jeff minus sunglasses....now that's rare....
We never really appreciated ELO in the 80s - they were always there, turning out great music and when you listen to them now you realise there's no-one who even comes close to this stuff.
i already appreciated back in 1979. I was only 9 years old and it was my favourite band...i learnt almost all their lyrics. These are the people who taught me english.I´m spanish by the way....
cisgom70tube your English is great, and your taste in music is equally great. 👍
tim scanlan/ Jeff Lynne, I guessed, realized about his.music don't being apreciated that in the album "Face the Music", the song "Down Home Town" has a clue about what I'm saying.
" The world don't like us much. 'Cos they ain't got the classic touch."
You're going to have to speak for yourself on this comment. They were my favourite artist from the time I heard their song Living Thing through the song Rock & Roll Is King. (I'm a black male raised in the city of Cleveland, Ohio on R&B throughout my childhood). My older brother saw how much I loved them and he bought this awesome double album and gave it to me...it was the late 70's. Not only did I play it out and memorized every word to every song, but I also still have this double album to this very day. I don't own much music at all as we didn't have much money growing up so I either recorded songs onto blank/used tapes or I learned the songs by heart so I could "play" them anytime I wanted in my head.
Rick Springfield replaced them as my favorite artist but this album is one of the most treasured things I have ever had...and I'm not a very materialistic person by any means.
We got Jeff Lynne getting lassoed, a horse on stage, then all the members shooting guns at the end. ELO has the coolest music videos I swear.
Every century or so, an event occurs in the cosmos where humankind is given a rare gift - a musician who can compose songs that literally stir our emotions and reach into our souls. Jeff Lynne is one of these musicians. This song is just one example. I feel he deserves a seat alongside the greatest composers of all time.
@Light Man, I don't disagree. Yet if you asked most people on the street who is Jeff Lynne, most won't know him. But a lot of that is down to Jeff being a very private, shy person.
A composer - yes that is what he is. Not just a plain old musician. He is, in my h op, one of that rare breed like Macca McCartney who just has a talent for great arrangements. They don't come along too often, so we should appreciate them while they are still with us.
The guy that roped Jeff was JW Stoker, "King of the Cowboy Trick Ropers", from Texas. Back in 1979 I was a professional barrel racer and competed at rodeos where JW performed. He had me hold his ropes for him and even roped me like he did Jeff. It was lots of fun!
My dad loved this song and we played it at his funeral so sad every time I listen to it makes me cry
Beautiful song. :)
Sorry for your loss. The beauty of music is that it keeps memories alive and especially of those we cherish. Your dad had good taste.
I'm not one to get choked up when listening to music, but this one has a 100% success rate in bypassing my defenses. Such a beautiful song. Wonderful harmonies, enchanting imagery - it's got it all. Perfect song in every way.
how can you not love this song? ...... it's just an amazing piece of artistry ........ wish they would have came out with some more music before kelly passed away ..... just like the beatles ..... we get cheated out of fantastic music that we'll never get to hear!
I can’t get enough of this song definitely one of my favorites I’ve been a fan since I was 10 years old
The 70's had the best music ever!
This and Elton John's 'Roy Rodgers' were my cowboy nostalgia hits of the 70's. God, that' a long time ago!
Rest in peace Kelly!! WE MISS YOU!!!
what a truly brilliant group... i saw them at brisbane about 10 years ago, they did this song with a laser beam backdrop and a full orchestra... wowwwwwwwwwwwwww....
The Electric Light Orchestra are 'Pure Class' ....
+jack cockling Thts not you! yr some older man.. put yr own pic up!
Its Jack Wilshere of Arsenal you plum !!
lol.. i no !
I believe one of the great things a song can do is take your mind to a different place and feel what's going on there, complete with colors and smells. This is one that can do it, even without video.
This is one of my favorite songs from elo. This song really relax me.
This is my favorite ELO video. I don't think they missed a thing, from the cowboy hats/shirts/chaps, the cello foot-spin at 1:34, and the horse with rope-twirler at 3:10.
I kept waiting for the horse to destroy the stage.
The general amusement when Jeff and his mic stand are lassoed is hilarious. Even the horse turns and looks!
The subsequent pride of the thrower in such a basic toss put it over the top :-)
One of my favorites!
Mine too. ☺
Richard Tandy is one of the greatest rock pianists ever! Brilliant!
Another unbelievable beautiful song from ELO I don't think I dislike any one of there recordings, music first class, harmonies first class
ELO first class loved them from being a teenager in the seventies , I count myself very lucky to have listened to other brilliant groups like
Queen, Status Quo, the Eagles,The Kinks, and of course Abba
This video... lol. "I'll be the Indians' friend, let them live to be free" (video of cowboys and Indians shooting each other), Rodeo cowboy on a white horse lassoing Jeff, Jeff wearing a cowboy hat, Bev's outfit. Gold.
Why do I cry when I listen to this? Am I supposed to!?
Yes
Im crying always. So amazing.
Reminds me of my dad, rest now dad I love you eternally.
Jeff Lynne wasn't wearing glasses because he was a complete Wild West Hero. (Cowboys from the old west did not wear glasses) Jeff is brilliant! I liked the rodeo cowboy in his horse throwing a rope to Jeff Lynne. And the cantina's music introduction.
Jeff Lynne and all ELO ensemble are real musicians.
¡¡Bravo OLE!!
Orquesta Luz Eléctrica.
Seeing ELO as Cowboys is a hoot.
Hardly ever see Jeff Lynne without sunglasses.
This is in my opinion one of the best ELO songs ever. Its really beautiful and remind med of the times when fine melodies and harmonies were appreciated. This is outstanding....
This is one of my favourite ELO songs. It works on many levels from the gutsy guitar break to the soaring strings at the finale, I do not think that Geoff or Kelly ever received true recognition for their vocal arrangements and singing talent.
The final chorus is tough to sing and the long last note which goes straight into the final reprise requires a lot of breath and voice control.
I can't think of many singers who can do that with the exception of Roger Hodgson in 'Give a Little Bit'. Personnally, I think ELO stand shoulder to shoulder with The Beatles, and were the big band of the 70s, better (dare I say it) than others who were more commercially successful.
Rick & Roger, Jeff and Roy, where the direct sons of Paul&John...
Supertramp is my favourite Band, but Beatles and ELO follows...
Bdewakantowan Isanti Dakota from Mni-Sota which is now called Minnesota....Jeff Lynne on behalf of my people, you are our Koda!!!
"Koda" means friend in the Dakota language.
I went to see Jeff Lynne's ELO last year on my birthday in LA at the Forum and last month at the Xcel Center in St Paul MN.....I LOVE ELO!!!
Jeff Lynn is, "The Chosen One."
My uncle and aunty,s song. It was played at my uncle's funeral.
I absolutely love this song :-)
God bless you Kelly.
one the coolest songs Jeff Lynn wrote! Great job! 💗
Absolutely love this song!
The way the chords jump around in the chorus followed by the harmony just makes me shiver... so good.
Those tight harmonies are to die for. See you in Vancouver 2019 Jeff!!!!
RIP Kelly - thanks for picking up the baton and keeping ELO in public's eye.
Jeff Lynne's got eyes?!?
Just a little laff, friends, I be lovin' me some ELO since the very beginning, okay, so peace, yah.
This is one of my FAV songs!
I saw ELO in the early 80s and blooming glad I did.
Seems like yesterday watching this video being played on top of the pops when it was first released, a rare time I can say - I'm glad to be old!
It's pretty overwhelming when just about everything they turned out was so beautiful! So honoured to have lived through the ELO years!
Amazing music from one of the greatest groups ever.
Amazing music from one of the greatest groups ever.
Thank you. I loved this song back in the day and am overjoyed you have done it justice.
The thing you have to get is how incredibly romantic Jeff Lynne is. Aside from the fact he is perhaps, no, probably, the most genius commercial music producer of all time, he is also a hopeless romantic who probably cries when he watches films.
This song is his unabashed gift to us, to all of us romantic fools. If the ideals of the wild west were to be made real, it would be this.
EVERY time I listen to his music, apart from the extraordinary production values, I am reminded of love lost, love in front of me, love potential, and also of beauty and grace.
You think it's easy to do what he does? Well, it's not. The fact that he bothered to do "Wild West Hero" for his fellow romantics is going above and beyond.
But that's Jeff Lynne. He always goes beyond the normal expectations.
Well said!
