For peeps with endo, periods can be more painful than heart attacks and literal childbirth. Male authors tend to write emotional men as showing love, lust, anger, and resting bitch face, but they write the female characters as portraying those plus a gambit of possible histrionics and hysteria... If you look for it, you see it, and you realize few male authors write realistic characters, and most write fantasy male (of their ideal self) and fantasy females (with stereotypes for lawlz "realism"). There are a few male and female authors who have very human characters. The readers aren't noticing and that reveals a lot about the audience too.

Or just... write women like people. A good approach is to first write the character then decide their gender and, if that has any impact on the story at all, make changes where necrssary. Its honestly baffling why authors struggle to write characters of opposite sex. Its not that hard

I recently heard that Ripley from the Alien quad was originally intended to be a man. Would've been just another forgettable horror flick if it had. I wish producers would say, "OK, now make half those characters female" before a script could proceed.

@sealdude5581 that is exactly how I feel about movie scripts. It always seems like there are SO many characters that could have been played by women but were cast as men. I recently heard that Ripley from the Alien quad was originally intended to be a man. Would've been just another forgettable horror flick if it had. I wish producers would say, "OK, now make half those characters female" before a script could proceed.
