It was definitely a play on the saying "penny for your thoughts" but its actually deeper, and funnier than just that. In the video Jake says "a Denny's for your tots, because the next one is going to be a grand slam" the chain restaurant Dennys has a breakfast menu item called Denny's Grand Slam which comes with a side of tater tots.
