Pants and shoes are very difficult for me to thrift. I am ok with buying those things new. The majority of my thrifts are bags, jackets and tops. Love your channel. You actually got this 60 year old into thrifting and I love it. Now my daughter and I thrift together.

i love this!! a mindset change is ultimately going to be more sustainable than one strict year and then going back to old habits- i’ve been realizing the same thing with eating lol

No, i don’t think you understand but I’m OBSESSED with ur channel. I’m alos doing a low buy but with thrifted clothes but I find it so hard to limit myself bc the thrift stores in tx are so good 😭

Don't worry about the rules too much. You're still being mindful about what you buy, and saving money! You can establish a new limit if you feel like having one will help to stick to the low-buy.

I think this sounds healthy and sustainable for u in your life, idk but once u start resenting the rules you have set up it's not helpful, fun or likely to work long term anymore. and as u said, buying a clothing item that has a thought out place in your wardrobe and that you will need at some point, now instead of later doesn't really matter.
i'm working on my all or nothing/black and white thinking as to not fall back into bad habits/symptoms. something that has helped me is thinking "X times in Y months" rather than "Y months since the last time".
black and white thinking is that if I fail today, after not doing it for six months, I will have a 6 month streak that's gone and now i have to start over. if I instead think "only once in 6 months!" and then keep it up, it'll be only once in 8 months later, which helps with the b&w all in mentality.
idk if that resonates with u but it helps me stay normal about failing things.

I think you are absolutely right about identifying your style as THE tool to avoid buying clothes impulsively. I’d add that, if you’re observant, you’ll notice how the trends resurface and how the piece that perfectly fits your wardrobe exists out there, or will exist quite soon, so it’s better to wait knowing that it will match your style and the rest of your wardrobe and it will last for years. I’m loving your videos! Allow yourself to buy what you need without worrying about the number of items. Those pants sound like a need for me!

I agree with you 100% My closet is probably 60% thrifted but none of my pants are thrifted bc they are so hard to fit! I am also a "all or nothing" personality type and can make myself stress over my own invented "rules." Way to go by deciding to be kind to yourself and the environment will still benefit from your change in behavior. :) Hope the pants are perfect!

just starting my no buy and am catching up. i’m also a little worried about pants as someone whose weight is fluctuating right now. my rule for the year is replacements only, so I think in my head I’ll be justifying it is if my go-to pants are unable to serve their purpose anymore, I’ll have to replace them. I intend on doing this as with a lot of consideration. I think you’ve done a great job and I’m happy to hear someone talking about that sometimes due to circumstances outside of our power our bodies just change and the kindest thing to do is accommodate and care for it.

I did a low buy a few years ago and I am still recovering from the effects of it (there were a lot of positive effects on the low buy as well). Mostly the guilt of buying and the price of items. I would track all my spending and not doing that now fills me with guilt. If anyone has advice for someone who is a full time reseller on how to not be tempted to buy so much for yourself, it would be highly appreciated. 90% of my purchases in the last 2 years have been second hand, but it is super difficult to not over consume when your job is to buy things. I have now added all my clothing to a closet app and am tracking my cost per wear and if I wear the items. This has been helpful, but I still find myself drawn to so much because I constantly see beautiful things and also have to do research on trends regularly. Thank you in advance for any advice. 🙂

Omg I'm in the same boat - at the moment I'm just reselling as my job and that's how I justify thrifting so much, but then I'm also buying a lot for myself! Sneaky lol. Writing down all my purchases is necessary for the business side of things, but also holds me accountable on how much I spend for my personal clothes. I think your app idea is a great idea bc then at least you're aware of what you have in your personal closet. I also feel guilt about buying higher priced thrifted items or the occasional new item bc I get most of my stuff for so cheap.

I think a one in, one out policy could be good for someone like you. Do a declutter if you are running out of space in your personal closet, and from that point on, if you want to pick up a new thrifted item, you need to get rid of a different item in your closet. ie, do you like this piece enough to give up something else in your wardrobe? Bonus points for getting rid of something in the same category. You don't want to pick up one of a kind sequin dresses and get rid of your pair of everyday pants. Also, now that you have added all of your pieces to a wardrobe app, choose a number that you do not want to go above as your absolute cap.

@@saraluckhardt3927 It's been very difficult for me to resist nicer clothing for myself. Nothing luxury, but the last 2 years being a reseller full time, I updated my entire wardrobe. Prior I worked in retail for 13yrs and all my clothing items were from my job or Forever 21. Now I do not shop at those places and replaced the items with higher quality and much better fitting, versatile pieces. I am hoping now that my, what seemed like an ever growing personal item wish list, is now empty that I can find a much better balance. Something I have been doing more recently is truly picturing the event/outing I would were the piece to and if I have an item that can already fill the purpose. Since I work mostly from home, I truly do not get fully dresses more than a few times a week. And ask myself is this item for me or for a version of me that does not exist lol. I do track all my thrift purchases, but only from the thrift store. I do a lot of 2nd hand shopping, for myself, online as well. I am at 94 items, from the thrift store for myself, in about 2 yrs. This is what made me want to be even more self aware when shopping. The app I have been using is called Indyx and it is free to use, in case anyone is interested.

@@gabi4247 I have actually been doing the one in one out for my wardrobe. It is a fantastic idea and one I will continue to follow. I actually have less clothing now than I did pre-reselling, but my issue is the desire to buy new items and rotate my wardrobe. I do not want to have this constant desire, but I watch trend videos on a regular basis, for work. I have a hard time when I see so many people style these trendy pieces and look amazing in them. It is that shopping desire I want to curb and have never been able to before. With the wardrobe app now I am seeing my use of each item and can keep track of all my outfits. My current plan is to do one more declutter, a year after tracking all my items. I am hoping that will truly give me the confidence in my wardrobe/clarity on my personal style and switch something off in my brain to no longer have the constant desire for new things.

I wanted a pair of black high top Converse Chuck 70s for the looongest time and recently got one as well and I was feeling self conscious about them being ''dated'' as well lol But I think if there is a trainer that is classic, it is Converse. It's crazy to look at pictures of people in the 60s and in the 90s wearing them and they always look so good.
I also feel it is a perfect item for a femme leaning wardrobe (my case), it's a pratical shoe but it doesn't clash with a floral dress or a ruffled skirt, it just gives it a bit of an edge, and if you decide to wear something more boyish/athletic, it also fits like a glove.

If the running shoes don't count because they are for health, then the running shorts also don't count. Therefore you have so far only bought 2 things, not 3. Please be reassured that both the running shoes and shorts definitely shouldn't count and you are totally right to class those as health related.

I really love this mindset. I kinda felt the same when becoming vegan. It was just too much for me, it felt like an eating disorder to some extent. And then switching to eating flexible felt like a failure but I still eat vegan most of the time. It just changed my mindset and it is so much more sustainable to get into healthy habits for the rest of your life than being strict and “perfect” for a year and then going back to the old way..

Oh lord, my low buy went terribly 😩😂 i cracked in May and spent about 300 bucks in one sitting, scrolling Vinted and Etsy on a sad day 💀 I am doing better now, and I know last year it would have been 2000 and then live on noodles for three months while stuff is piling up but JEEZ it’s a stubborn addiction!!! Luckily, I am stubborn as well, and watching videos like yours rlly helps ❤❤❤

I also have problems finding pants that fit my waist and my butt but the funny thing is I've actually found some second hand that fit me perfectly because the previous owner had taken in the waist. Apparently random people are better at making clothes fit right than the companies selling them...

I think you're doing a great job - hey we're halfway through the year and you've only bought like 4 things so don't be too hard on yourself! I was going to say try thrifting the linen pants, but I'm glad you explained that they're harder to find for your body type and the area you're thrifting in. Plus you never know if something will fit if you buy it online, I have terrible luck with that myself. It's fine to just pivot and re-frame how you approach the low-buy year for the remainder of the year.

I cannot thrift pants either. I am like you short with a big bootie and thighs. I think purchasing clothes is up to the person. As a teacher I feel like I need more clothes than someone who works from home. Also I am in my fifties and my home is paid off so I have the disposable income to shop. I think it is what the individual is comfortable with. I agree with being stressed you need the pants there is no point in not having them or being uncomfortable. Is no buying sustainable? I really don't think so depending on the person.

This video is a couple months old, but thought I’d comment anyway. I’m trying 5 items per season, so 5 for fall/winter and 5 spring summer for a total of 10. You definitely will struggle more if you are have weight fluctuations issues (me over here) or you aren’t happy with your clothes.
