It's been a while since I reacted to a bit of Avatar. So let's put that to rights!
Sorry it's long, I just had rather a lot to say on this one!

My name is Nat and I am a gothic operatic singer, actor and voice artist based in the heart of Kent, England. Music has always played an important part in my life as a musician and I love to use my platform on UA-cam to share it in my music reactions.

Thank you so much for reacting to this, and I'm really glad you love it. I appreciate it when you pick up on the nuances and the vibes, as well as the techniques, and these two songs have it all. It is indeed great to see this other side to his singing, and his piano playing too, and yes I think he really does channel that emotion into his performances. And absolutely the guitar work is to die for (as is Jonas' hair) 😊 the vocal feedback thing, I have no idea if there is a technical term for it, but it is bliss.
For some background, yes, there is death in this, you are right. Johannes wrote a fable, turning it into an exquisite and epic poem. The whole band created a concept album for it, though Johannes is the main lyricist by far, much of the heart and soul comes through with the musicians who all create the melodies etc. The whole thing was an epic project, it grew.
So the fable, without spoiling the plot line, is a dark one, centering around an owl, a huntress of the night, who meets an Eagle, the hunter of the day. As a result of that encounter the owl goes to war with the Eagle to stop the Sun from rising. The fable is full of lessons not learned, regrets, heartache, fury and death. That is all I will say, except that it's a fantastic album and book.
If you check out The Eagle Has Landed, and New land, these two official videos are from this album but are, in contrast, full of humour, and visually don't literally connect with the story, but I think you will love them.
Night Never Ending is the other official video, and is much, much darker visually. I think you will like them all.

Yay! Glad you did this one, Nat. I was afraid you weren't going to make to House of Eternal Hunt.. esp. when you were picking up on the 'death' theme and getting all the feels right out of the gate. As you know, I love everything by/about Avatar.. I still get chills every time Johannes is at the piano & sings his cleans in a slow, profound kind of way (you should listen to "Gun" sometime lyric video from the latest album>.. and have tissues handy). And all the heavy stuff is just so catchy, there are days I'll listen to my 'favorite' songs on repeat, all day. ~ Great reaction!

Hi Nat, have you ever thought about doing a reaction to Queensryche? I think that Operation Mindcrime is one of the greatest concept albums ever.
He reacted to Take Hold of the Flame, but nothing from Mindcrime yet
The problem with Queensryche is, once DeGarmo left and Tate became the main songwriter, they went to total shit. They've gotten some of it back, with Todd LaTorre, but they're kind of one of those bands who were right there and just crashed
You gotta listen to Deeper Down from their 3rd album. His voice is SUPER high.
That riff after the first guitar solo is very much inspired by old swedish folkloren music.

I agree, I like the piano, sadly it and organ/keyboards have become a rarity in modern rock/metal music. The bigger bands had them, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Lynrd Skynrd, just to name a few
