I have played like 10 games in total and even I would beat these opponents (okay - to be fair I have watched A LOT of videos...)
edit: Continued watching the video and okay - maybe not every opponent, but I think I would have given even the better ones at least a bit of a fight

i assume the playerbase must be pretty small now that they removed f2p which is why they keep matching you with 800s, but they could atleast give more than 1 elo (and not -30 if you lose) if they aren't gonna change the matchmaking to balance it out a little. at the moment its basically all risk no reward.

I'm new and only silver III but I completely share your frustration. Waiting a whole week to rank up is quite frustrating and as someone who likes to grind up the rank ladders in competitive games it doesn't motivate me to continue playing ranked one I guaranteed my rank up spot. What a horrible rank system... It's like a mobile game, they have to fix this quickly

23:45 this architecture is mostly found in the south of Clermont-Ferrand. This is typical architecture of this region called Auvergne.
Are those short road lines only in france? Pretty new to this game but that's what i picked up immediately, i've never seen them in another country but since he didn't recognize them I thought maybe I'm wrong

Your low expectations of 800 elo people is almost insulting.
In the mobile app you can play duels and there's no matchmaking at all, it's completely random, which means I'm often playing people with a rating of 0. I feel bad when I can quickly win every game but occasionally if I do somehow lose a game to an under rated player I lose heaps of rating

I fluctuate between like 850-1000 rating and I got most of the rounds in this video country wise, some good region guesses. I usually watch without sound and make my guesses before you to "train" lol

In the first 20 games you should get matched by division, not rating. If queue is empty, this will be expanded up to two divisions away, but since you are in Masters II, you just get Masters II if available. From your 21st game it should be by rating only so you could even with a short queue get a 1,600 Champion or Masters.
This kind of makes sense because otherwise I could game the system by being in Champion's, then from the 21st game lose all games on purpose and start the next week at Rating 300 or so. Next week, I am then matched against very low rated players, win all 20 games flawlessly, get 2,000 points and win the Champion's division in the week.
You should do some Sporcle content to show of that big brain of yours. Think your audience would love that!
whenever you playing your 20 weekly games you usually only play people in your division. As soon as you complete 20 games it switches to ELO based matchmaking
This video especially showcases just how bad the new ranked system is. There wasn’t really a threat of losing ever. I still enjoyed watching even so, but I just can’t imagine wanting to play more of something so minimally engaging
some 800-900 elo players i go against never miss a country and the other half guess texas on a philippines round

The division leagues are not fit for purpose as they are now. I am a 'Martin' in Master 2. The ELO range in each weekly league has been crazy - high 600s to 1300s. There is no consistency in match-ups. I'd prefer a steady stream of 900-1000 rated players than the current wild mix.
I'm usually a gold player and I stopped playing for awhile so I'm in silver completely dominating and unable to play no move for a week while I rank back up I hate it

I think you should read the explanation on how the new system works again. It feels like you´ve misunderstood how exactly the new system works, like how it´s crucial that if you play at all, you get your 20 games in because if you rank up or down (and with that your rank) is determined by the amount of points you get each week and not your rating, and the que is rank based, not elo based, which is why you get all these low rated opponents. Oh and also you can only move up/down one rank per week.

It’s been 6 weeks since the terrible new match making system has been introduced and they still haven’t fixed it, I kind of expected more since it’s become a payed service. I really wanted to reach champions but ever since this update it feels really random if I move up or down a league since it just comes down to if I’m facing more players lower rated than me or higher rated than me. They could fix this by just removing the league system and going back to Elo based leagues and league based match making again.
When I get matched against 800+ rated players they never make poor guesses like the ones you had 😢

Octagonal poles are spanish influenced poles, so ph also has them! Uhmm it is rly hard to describe cuz it’s mainly a vibe but here’s everything u could point out: dusty road quality, southeas asian palms, metal sheet roofs, and a well structured wooden fence (rather than a mexican one which would be individual branches aka sapling fences)

Doing this daily is not a good idea now, first you have to rank up to champion, so that it matches you with champions, and that will take you 2 weeks (40 games)

Well, you got ranked down because you didn’t play competitive. It makes sense to mark down, otherwise you’d have these weird people who by various means got to 1900 at some point still staying there at the top of the Leaderboard. It makes sense that GeoGuessr wants people to engage with the game regularly. Btw, I’d love to get some opponents who I can easily beat sometimes. As it is, I (1100) keep getting matched against 1500s and keep losing.

You say that you find it frustrating that you are being put up against weaker players when playing your placement games.. but if it didn't work that way you would basically be punished for increasing your ELO and by performing well it would be harder to move up to the next league.
