  • On this week's adventure we wrap up our journey around the Olympic Peninsula with one final epic adventure accompanied by the most epic camp yet. The journey pushed my limits and tested my nerves with a long shelf road but ended with life memories.

    Pretty cool. I did this run last week and camped down by the river. Drone makes it where you can spot sketchy areas. I came from the opposite direction, so it was sketchy at best!

    Awesome! I camped in that exact spot during the last winter solstice. That's one of my favorite areas.

      Which spot? First or second one? They were both very unique fun camp spots.

    Makes me miss Washington state. I lived there for few years in 1997

      Maybe Washington is calling you for a family vacation in the near future.

    That's a fun drive. I did it last year in the other direction. Camped right near the top.

      That’s awesome. It was a great trail. I’d like to do it again sometime in the other direction. Were the rock slides present when you did it last year?

      @@BluebirdOverland They were. I camped at the big site you passed at bout 18:50. One of those wide pullouts right at the top would have been perfect, but they aren't hammock friendly.

      @@davepalmer1739 that's funny I thought about staying at that spot after I had passed it. Yeah, not much up there is hammock-friendly until you get down in lower elevations. Even this it was pretty sparse.

    That's how it is in the Olympic NF and surrounding logging territory. The maps are inaccurate. The maps are wrong. Some things are gated and not shown on maps. Some things are shown as gated and they are not.
    Not surprising that your road ran into a river with a cliff. Some of these roads haven't been maintained since prior to The Nixon administration.
    One thing we ask carry here is a chain saw. With 100 trillion trillion trees, it's not uncommon for one to fall across the road. Especially in the winter, fall or spring when the winds kick up. You never go on these Forest service roads without a chainsaw. You can run up the road and then a tree falls across it and you can't get out. But of course there 's very little in the way of solution in case a big boulder falls across the road. Just hope your tow strap and your truck can pull it out of the way.

      Yeah I bought an electric chainsaw to begin on my next adventures. The whole peninsula is absolutely stunning beautiful there were so many areas that I wanted to explore. Some of the roads were tight and we’re beginning to look overgrown which goes in line with what you’ve said.

      Logging Trucks?

    • @BluebirdOverland
      @BluebirdOverland  2 місяці тому

      Nope I didn’t find any logging trucks through out Washington, but did have one night hearing active work being done in Oregon.
