    I'm switching mine to a lower temp fan switch from Rodney Dickman. And a 180° stat.

    Thanks for making this video we too have the 2.8 Fiero. Can I ask what software do you have to read the OBDI in the Fiero?

    • @StevesDIYs
      @StevesDIYs  6 років тому +1

      Mrlogreco : Hello, glad you found the video helpful :). The software I use is TunerPro RT and is available from their website www.tunerpro.net. They were really nice and provide a download that functions fully without registering and just ask for a donation in order to register it. The ALDL cable came from Red Devil River, LLC up in Wisconsin (USA). The hardest part to make it communicate is getting the PC port settings to slow down to communicate with the car. My ‘85 GT will communicate without the pins jumped on the cable but other years seem to need the pins jumped to talk to the PC. The cable comes with instructions so it was pretty easy to get it talking.

      Read odb1 all you have to have as a paperclip and jump Port a&b and count the service engine light flashes to get the codes

      @@StevesDIYs Hi Steve,
      I just got to this wonderful info you put on the net. Can I ask what port settings you used to get the software and the car communicate?
      Did you use the driver as it came from the box for the ALDL cable from Red Devil River?
      Thank you for your help and keep up the good work.
      Cheers

      @@infocentrousmajac , Thanks man 👍. Yep, I used the drivers that came with the cable. It’s been a while since I loaded the software and set it up so I don’t remember exactly the port settings, but it seems like the documentation had the settings to use if I’m not mistaken. On the cable, there are two copper pins that may need to be jumped to make it communicate as well. For my ‘85 GT, I didn’t need to put the jumper on the pins, but for an ‘86 I was helping a friend with, I had to jump the pins to make it talk. Hope this helps 👍, Steve

      Thanks 👍. I actually only have just a couple of videos on the channel for the Fiero as it never seems to have anything go wrong with it (I guess that’s a good thing, lol). This year I’m gonna have to change my clutch and rear main in it though so in a few months I’ll have another Fiero video posted up 👍. All the best ! Steve

    Does anyone know the name of the sensor that is right beside this one?

    • @StevesDIYs
      @StevesDIYs  4 роки тому +1

      Dion Blackwell , hello. Unfortunately UA-cam won’t let folks put pics in the comments so it will be hard to tell which exact sensor you are looking for, but there is a Fiero Facebook forum that has tons of owners that are really helpful and know these cars inside and out. There are several forums, but the one with the most members is called “Fiero”. Over there you can post up a pic or two with the sensor in question circled in the pic and you’ll probably get more info than you want, lol. If you are new to the Fieros, introduce your self that way over there and they will be nicer...some are kinda old and grumpy I’ve found 🤣. Maybe this will help...all the best, Steve

    Hi do you know were is speed sensor? Thanks

    • @StevesDIYs
      @StevesDIYs  4 роки тому

      David Guerras , hello, it depends on if the transmission is an automatic or a manual since it is attached to the transmission. For the automatic I believe it is on top of the passenger side drive shaft at the end of the housing. For the manual, it should be on top if the differential where the axles come out.

    Hey man so I have a question so I installed the cold air intake it's got a hole in it with a gromet, then a connector with a tube that I connected to a tube type of housing right behind the throttle cable and the original air box is still in there until I found out what that second hole does is there somewhere you could receive pictures too?

    • @StevesDIYs
      @StevesDIYs  4 роки тому +1

      SgtKickazz YT , hey...yep, you can send them to stevesdiys@gmail.com . I should be able to get it there...that would be easier to see for sure what you got going on 👍

    • @StevesDIYs
      @StevesDIYs  4 роки тому

      Yep, looked at your video, but didn’t see the other hole you mentioned with the grommet. I’d bet it’s for the air temp sensor though that’s in the stock air filter housing.

    2:21 you'd said "Nutz" lol made me start crackin up the way you said it very much enjoy your humor and videos subbed and liked can you make more about the Fiero, I am in a Fiero club.
    Dude you are badass this is exactly what's happening with 👌 I have a 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT 2.8 liter automaticthen also I'm having issues with my headlights they go down but don't come up they worked when I purchased the vehicle two days ago I am the second owner and 89,xxx original miles. Oh and my fan turns on with AC so my fan works just not the sensor.

    • @StevesDIYs
      @StevesDIYs  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks man 👍. Yep these are notorious for getting air trapped just below the thermostat that’s on top of the motor and preventing the t’stat from opening up so they get hot quick and puke coolant out if the bottle in the front. If the fan doesn’t come on it makes it even worse. I always drill a little hole in the plate of the thermostat so it won’t trap air as a precaution too..a little coolant flowing all the time doesn’t hurt anything on it staying warm. The headlight motors are another problem on these as well (I have one that acts up sometimes. Ive just been giving the knob that rotates the headlight up a thump with my hand and mine takes off and lifts, but I need to take it apart and clean up the motor and check the gears as they get all gunked up and don’t work all the time. I should make a video if doing that too. They are great little cars for sure, just have some quirks, lol. All the best ! Steve

      @@StevesDIYs So Yea, man my lights go down. I have to manually put them up Everytime I use them, I was told by someone to upgrade my lights to the 87 version as well as the motors. Would that be a good idea lmk please I am NOT mechanically inclined, this is my first car to actually work on myself
      I just purchased a whole new 14inc fan set up. And an ECU off Amazon it's called a FORCE™ performance chip, off Amazon it's made 💯% for my car please lmk what you think I also have a cold air intake set up that's made for my car lmk man what's your opinion? Please and thank you!

    • @StevesDIYs
      @StevesDIYs  4 роки тому +1

      SgtKickazz YT , yep...it seems they improved the design of the headlight lifting motors after a couple of years (mines an ‘85 so it was the crappy ones too). Might not hurt to find the revised ones, but they aren’t hard to rebuild either. For the upgrade to the ECU chip, I’ve heard that several folks have done this and like the results...I just left mine as stock since it seems to do pretty good for me. I’ve also seen folks put the cold air intakes on them and are happy too. There are several other things folks have done to gain a few hp as well (like cleaning up the exhaust manifold welds in the inside and things). Have you found the Facebook group named “Fiero” or another one named “Pontiac Fiero”? There are tons of owners on those that love to hear about the cars and see the pics (a few crabby folks on there too, lol, but don’t let that bother you). If you let the group know you are new to the Fiero’s they can be very helpful with things they have done and what did and didn’t work (we were all new to these cars at one time). These are great little cars once the bugs are worked out and are easy to work on...every time I take mine out I get asked about it and folks are always saying that they haven’t seen one of those in years...they are well remembered for sure 👍
