I was 15 y , watching with my dad, brother and my cousins who were rooting for Milan. I’m only one for Liverpool. During half time I went outside and cried my eyes out… came back like nothing happened and watched till the end. What a night it was 🫶🏻

They were animals) Half time hit I was like "oh god, they're gna rinse me at school" 😂 went back downstairs and witnessed greatness
Kudos to the narrator and video editors. You've finally turned this game into a blockbuster epic. Many years later I still get goose bumps watching this comeback. Unbelievable!
Unfortunately I fell back asleep after my early morning alarm went off (I live in Australia), but then, ever so luckily, I woke up at half-time. My devastation was only tempered by my tiredness. I felt gutted. Ten minutes later I was jumping around, dancing, singing like a madman. My greatest moment as a Liverpool fan. Jersey Dudek was simply awesome, as they all were. All us Liverpool fans were so damn proud, and still are. A truly very special day 🥰🥰 I love to be reminded of it. Still after so many years, whenever I hear mention of Instanbul, in any context, not just sport, that pride instantly returns.
Fun Fact: There is a player who wasn't played but he was in the squad during Liverpool 2004/2005 UEFA Champions League Final and he won it. In 2022/2023 season, he also wasn't played but still in Manchester City 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League Final and he also won it. His name is Scott Carson.
As a Canadian with no allegiance to any particular team at the time other than "wow Henry at Arsenal is pretty good, eh?" Istanbul is what made me decide to support Liverpool.
It was a fantastic final. My brother-in-law travelled to Istanbul to attend the game and he rang my sister at halftime to say that he didn't think he could sit through another half like the first one. My sister convinced him to stay because the trip had cost so much. Stephen Gerard said a few years later that the Liverpool dressing room was completely silent at halftime and they could hear the Milan players singing in celebration. As far as they were concerned the game was already over. This was what provided Liverpool with the motivation to go out for the second half.
I was homeless in London when the final was on, myself and a Scouse lad watched the final through a pub window, as long as I live I'll never forget it..
@aig1111 relationship break up, bad drug problems, the usual. It's been a long hard journey to get where I am today but yes I'm much better now thanks, carry around a hell of a lot of regrets but I work on that one every single day, hope YOU are doing well pal..👍🏼
I remember going to the mosque at half time saying to myself, "No need to watch the rest of the game." But Gerrard started the impossible, and in the end, it was simply unbelievable. On that night, Gerrard was everywhere on the pitch and produced one of the best individual performances i have ever seen.
I was at the game. My friend and I contemplated about leaving the stadium because transportation from there is famously horrible. We decided to stay a bit while for the second half and we will leave if the game does not change. The rest is history…
I was there too. I can't believe that people left at half time for two reasons. 1 We're Liverpool fans and NOBODY leaves. 2 The stadium was miles from anywhere and too difficult to get to and from Istanbul

The best part of this game for me is that I was the only Liverpool fan watching this at my friend's house. He has Italian family who all support Milan, so I was pretty miserable at half time. By full time I was the only person in that house smiling!

I remember watching this match at 2am due to the time difference and thinking i should go to sleep at half time cuz my team was obviously gonna lose. But something deep inside told me to stay up just to see what could happen. Glad i trusted my instincts.
This is what I love about Club England. When they are under pressure, they show their true identity. And perhaps, this is what makes the EPL the best, at least in the 2005 era and below. However, it seems like it will be difficult to find something like this anymore nowadays when football has started to lose its magical power when every team is too pragmatic and forgets the beauty of football itself. Apart from all that, Miracle of Istanbul will become a legendary game. Even the big teams won't be able to guess what the English team has.
i remember watching this game in Asia so the time it was on was into the wee hours of the night, and i had work the next day. At halftime I gave up and went to bed since I didnt have the belief that Liverpool could get anything out of this game. How wrong was I and how happy I was to be proven wrong for the next day when I woke up to see that Liverpool won the game on penalties, I couldnt describe the feeling at that time but now thinking back, I really admire the fans at the stadium for singing their hearts out at halftime, and like what Xabi said, it gave the players extra motivation to make the comeback possible. Greatest champions league final for sure. YNWA!!
I remember this game very vividly, watched it in an overpacked sports bar/restaurant. It was loud, filled with supporters and fans from both sides and neutrals who were there just for the love of the beautiful game, a game which did not disappoint.

There;s always 4-3" we all said Fuck off Dave.... I saw grown men cry when Dudek saved that last penalty.. Will never forget the horns from cars getting home, and I lost my voice completeley the next day :D
This actually makes Liverpool look better in the first half than they were. Milan completely outplayed them as indeed they did in extra time. I nearly stopped watching at half time and am glad I hung on in there. It will always be my biggest football memory. Incidentally this game destroyed Schevchenko. After experiencing Dudeks unbelievable double save and then missing the penalty Schevchenko was never the same. He moved to Chelsea but couldn’t reproduce what he had done for Milan. If ever one game effectively ended a players career it was Istanbul with Schevchenko.m
As the 3rd goal for Milan went in, I gave up and went in spare room to play on PC to drown my sorrows. Then I heard my wife say we'd scored, so I returned to witness the most amazing turn of events in football. I got carpet burns when Xavi scored the penalty...
I still remember watching this live, and having goosebumps one goal after the other in second half. It was really a miracle comeback by Liverpool that night.
I was crying at half time with my gf at the time saying that "she smelled penalties." Was a phrase my mates all used when we played fifa/pes against each other. That night! I went to bed loosing hope on liverpool when milan scored the third goal; and when I heard the victory of liverpool in the morning,I did have any clue what just happened. It was miracle.
been Liverpool fan since 97, i remember this game very well, it was in May 2005 waiting for my next chapter in life journey in the college. it was 3-0 to AC Milan, before the second half our electricity shut down, i was already done with the team and sure we gonna lose 5 or 6-0, the power is on and there it is Xavi Alonso waiting for the PK, damn what a night.
I was not a Pool fan. I watched the first half, then switched off the telly and went to bed. Next day, I got the news. That was the day I was born...as a Reds fan!
I watched it live. That was the most thrilling final of the Champions League I have ever seen till the last. Only Real Madrid bettered it last year though that was in the quarter final and semi final❤❤❤
I overslept and woke up when the 2nd half started. I started to dream when gerard scored and began praying when smicer scored and when alonzo scored i knew god was on our side😊
I switched the channel after half time and started to watch a film, thinking it is over. The commentators at half time said the match is already over for Liverpool. Then I don't know why I switched back and started watching again in the 50th minute. The Garrard scored and from that moment on I got hooked to the screen again. There is no question that this is the best UCL final up to date. Just like the 2022 WC final is the best in history. I don't think these can be surpassed again by any means.
I remember this game. I was a 20 year-old college student moving out of his apartment to go back home. I turned on the game and started moving my stuff. I moved all of my stuff to my car in a hurry, hoping to see a really good competition, but when I was done at halftime, I didn’t know what to think since Milan went 3-0 up at that point. Thank goodness I was really stoned, because I was going to go home and not bother watching the rest of the game. I got stoned again and watched one of the best games I’ve ever seen. I was really happy for Liverpool, that win was so unlikely to happen. I mean, Milan had Sheva, Seedorf, Pirlo, Kaka… They were the actual Galacticos of that era, and Steven Gerrard started a real party their expense with that amazing header. This video should have highlighted Dudek’s superhuman goalkeeping in the PKs. He looked kind of scary jumping around like that. I can only imagine how pissed the Liverpool supporters who left the game early must have been in a way. They missed what they paid hard earned money to go see, the best CL game ever. I hope Liverpool win the treble this year. They deserve it.
@ I’m 40 now, and now that you mention it, it’s crazy thinking that guy is almost 40 as well. I hope he gets his 1000 goals, he deserves it. I have respect for him, especially since he’s been a great role model for kids all over the world and was able to do so after losing one of his own children. As a father, I can tell you I would crumble into pieces if I lost one of my children. Ronaldo is clearly a strong guy for keeping on with his purpose the way he has. Cheers.
Can you remember what strain you were smoking? Lol. Don’t want too much of a heavy indica for the game but a reckon a lovely 50/50 hybrid would have gone down a treat. I had to get stoned after the game as I was in the boozer and as I’m from the UK weed is still illegal here. Sorry for the off topic question!
@ I won’t lie, Indica was definitely my favorite, but I was probably smoking something inferior to that. I just turned 40, so it was almost half my life ago. In college, I wouldve smoked whatever was around (unless it was brown or really gross). I remember the game tho, I remember being wowed when Steven Gerrard scored that header. I had NO CLUE they would actually win the game, who would’ve thought Vladimir Smicer would score as well… I was convinced it was over at halftime.
we have around a 60% chance to win the treble this year, we have only been beat once and we only have a few more matchdays left in the cl. this is our chance for history, diaz salah and gakpo are on fire and it they keep it up we will most definitely have a year scraping right below this match
It was the beginning of my love for Liverpool and I became a football fan from that day. And till now, I’m a diehard Liverpool fan

So presumably if Milan had won you would now be a fan of theirs?

They deserve it.
so you are as old as Ronaldo?
