I LOVE my Yamaha MX 88! (I have the Blue 61 for gigging out) I debated with my great musical son that this board has the BEST grand piano sound out there anywhere! The only problem I have is here recently, my middle C key is starting to play the B key next to it. I will have to get that fixed right away. And I think you mention this, I wish I could save a few favorite sounds for fast access. But other than that, I love it!!! I tell folk everywhere, to have an 88 weighted key keyboard for the church that's easy for gramma to sit down and find a piano sound and not pay a high price, this is the board! -Great video! Thanks.
Thanks for uploading. I just purchased one of these and I haven't even got it out of the box. Just getting an idea. I have owned other Yamaha products and was always pleased with them so from everything I've seen and heard it looks like the best bang for the buck. Again, Thank you!!
I own an MX61BK. I am controlling it from Cubase Artist 13 and it is very easy to use. The tone is good and you can apply a beautiful phaser with the VCM effect. It's cheap, but it's a good enough product.
I absolutely agree with you about the acoustic/electric pianos being better than the JUNO-DS88. I have both. I bought them at the same time with the intention of sending one back. I ended up keeping both for different reasons. Piano was the #1 reason I kept the MX88.
I picked up a mx49 well over a year ago and for the money it is a great sound source that I mostly control externally. It blends nicely with the Roland Juno DS as well.😁🎶🎹🎶Play On
I have the mx 61. I also got the vycro mx software just recently from a UA-cam video. I managed to layer 5 sounds with volume and 1 sound, which works off the velocity of the person hitting the key. I have had the mx61 for about 3 weeks now, and it's great
That's pretty cool! I do wish Yamaha had made it a little easier to program this series from the front panel - the software unlocks a lot of stuff you can't otherwise have.
really helpful! thanks for showing a critical angle. I've been looking for an upgrade from my current gear and now I think I'll go for an mox8 instead of an mx
Just bought a Yamaha MX88. Can't figure out how to save preset effects that are easy to access when in a live performance. Does this have to be done as a performance selection?
Hi Richard, I hope you can answer this because it is very important to me. Is it possible, with the xtools software or without, to pan the hi hat keys in the drums differently from each other? They are, by default, somewhat panned on all keys to the right. I want to know if I can pan one key (closed hat) to the left, another (loose hat) to the middle, and leave the third (open hat) one on the right. I know I can use the pan control but that just pans the whole keyboard and not, at least to my knowledge, the individual note/keys separately. Please-please let me know, if you can find the time to answer. I'll check back frequently to see if you can respond. Thanks so much, Rick
Using external software such as the MX Tools Suite, it might be possible to make a drum kit where you pan samples... but it'd be a time consuming pain in the backside. The tools let you make new patches where you can assign different samples to different zones on the keyboard. So you'd need to have three zones set up where you'd transpose and pan the drumset's closed high hat, another zone set up where you'd pan and transpose a second copy of semi open high hat, a third one, and then you'd need samples for the rest of the drums in another zone. It might be technically possible, but it would be a pain. If it's for a recording and you have a computer with a DAW, I would either just sample the high hats into the DAW and use that, or I'd record three different takes with each of the three high hats and put them soloed on separate tracks, and then pan those tracks. That'd be easier.
Is The "slow keys" problem appear in other yamaha piano such as ck88 or modx88? Because i recently sold my mx88 because that problem... Mx88 keys SUCK...
I have the MX 88 and I noticed keys start loosening up and falling off. This is the worst keyboard I have ever owned I’ve been playing piano for 59 years and this is the worst you can do better Yamaha😮
Unfortunately this trend is not just Yamaha. At a big box music store near me, they've got a Korg Kronos that hasn't been on the shelf that long, and it already has a key stuck down. Talking to my friends in sales, they tell me it's a sign of the times and pretty common on even the high end stuff. The Casio I owned previously had an entire octave go bad. It's why I got the MX88. But I 100% agree that Yamaha can and should do better.
@@budgetkeyboardist I've had issues with two RD Rolands. One was covered by warranty, and the other was not. The MX88 is my first Yamaha after 35 years with Roland. I never had issues with the JV 90 or JV 1000. I wished I'd kept them, although I wanted the full piano feel.

Thank you for the word although it has nothing to with a Yamaha MX keyboard, thanks anyway.

Just some of the questions I was looking for! Thanks!

I honestly do not know. I'd recommend asking on the Yamaha MX forum, at: www.yamahamusicians.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=114
I have a problem with this keyboard... the tone banks move by themselves... from the grand piano to the other bank, how do I set it?

Wish i saw this great video in 2020 when i bought this keyboard. Also, thing is clunky compared to other synths/digital keyboards

It's really hard to say. I feel like the CK88 is a little better but it's been months since I played one.
@@budgetkeyboardist now i am very happy with my new RD88.. very expressive and fast respond..
