This year I have been struggling with his book The Laws of Human Nature. I can only read around one of these self-help books a year. I believe it takes time and energy to internalize the messages of these books. And Robert's book is just so much more than a typical make you feel book. It is really a deep dive into human psychology with examples from history and it makes you draw parallels from your own life. A truly tremendous amount of work must have gone into it. Thank you, Robert.

This has been a very insightful video that I will save and return to from time to time. Thank you, Ryan and Robert. Peace.
Robert Greene and Ryan Holiday are two great philosophers of our time. I have been working Ryan's Daily Stoic Journal for over a year now, and it has changed my life. Now, I have added Robert's new Daily Laws to my daily journal process as I loop back on the Daily Stoic Journal for another year. It will double the time I spend on the daily journal, but I consider that time well spent. So far, it is interesting how Robert and Ryan's books both sync up on a daily basis - Like Ryan said, that is likely because I am seeing what I need to see in in my personal life... Robert and Ryan are two sides of the same coin, with Ryan's inspirational Stoicism meeting Robert's aspirational pragmatism, both meeting in the middle. Thanks Ryan and Robert. Your partnership over the years has helped so many across all over your works.
Courage does not apply only to people who are doing what you like or think is right. It is more about following your own core values and what you think is right, despite the risks and negative social or phisical consequences. I believe that nurse is courageous.

On the podcast version of this, Ryan states that this was an impulse interview. Robert Greene was just visiting Ryan and they happened to just start talking about the book which led to this, hence the bad audio.

I feel like Ryan should remember he is teaching lessons to guide us not absolute rules. Courage and what is right is defined within us, history may prove some to be standing on the wrong side that does not mean they did not have courage to stand in the first place. Even as a person who probably wouldn’t be welcomed in the civil war south the men who fought and led had courage, that’s undeniable.
The next thing you going to say is that 'the good is in all of us' like a careless naturalist of 'highest nobility', if I were to give rules from my rule book I'll will tell you to rather say 'truth is that, even a sociopath, psychopath, serial killer etc. have an innate potential of being good or courageous' but I think you might prefer to say 'we were all born good, courageous etc' which has a great point but that can be carelessly spiritualized and mislead. I know this is a Daily Stoic video but the title of the video implies that it is an interview with Robert Greene. However, Ryan spoke about 80% of the time and Robert spoke maybe 20%. This is why I miss professional journalism- they knew how to focus on the subject they are interviewing. On these UA-cam platforms, the host usually spends equal amount of time or more time chiming in and talking about themselves. It seems like Ryan broke the first law of power and was attempting to outshine the master by talking about and trying to impress us with everything he knew.
I also noticed, especially in the first few minutes, that when Robert Greene was speaking, Ryan seemed like he was thinking about what he was going to say next rather than listen to his guest.

So does thisbguy actually follow the laws of power? Or is the point to be aware of them? Not ready the book but the ones I have seen are not the kind of rules I would want to live by
It’s about awareness. You need to learn how to fight to avoid fighting. Bullies usually fight ppl they know they can beat and most ppl manipulate those they know they can control, once you learn how to fight , the likelihood of you being bullied goes down by a lot. The more you know about manipulation, the less likely you are to be manipulated

My son(16) asked for the book ( the 48 laws of power" and I bought it for him. I have read through all of the laws and was kind of scratching my head... Asking myself, Do I want him(16yi) to read this? I read Something that said it isn't a book that is allowed in jails.
So thanks Body By Dre for your comment to help me understand the why behind this book or the proper perspective of it's good use in life and to Chris Abram for your concern as well. It helps to frame things. I didn't realize it would link my back to Ryan. The book didn't seem to stoic but we chose to let our last child out of 6 find himself and walk according to his own interests in this life. Funny how life flows lol.
I feel like I’m trapped in a University washroom at lunch time unable to leave because the door is blocked by some mouthpiece trying to outshine our Professor and I don’t want to be rude in case the Professor is enjoying this.
But WHERE IS THE CONTENT ABOUT DAILY PRACTISE …. Please. Because I have things to do…

Was this guy interviewing himself? Good lord. He needs to re-read some of Robert’s books and do some self-assessment . (chuckle)
I don't know why Robert does not look to me powerful, seductive or a strategist
Looks can be deceiving!

Wow...some of the views didn't age well.
Thinking of the sponsor-I wonder if there is any concern that Athletic Greens contains spirulina blue-green algae.
did my man Bobby Greene get in a fight?
Oh shit, the left eye club. Who gave him a black eye.
Unfortunately I think it was probably something to do with healing from his stroke. He definitely seems a lot stronger and healthier overall now compared to immediately post-stroke.
@@jmt2192 time will tell. Narratives are easily excepted, what were told and shown is what we believe.
The eye!?!?? What happened to his eye???

The laws of human nature wasnt as impressive as i thought it would have been.
I think it was his best book.
It was, Daily Laws was not, as it only repeats chapters from the previous books. Nice summary though.
