Great job on the ship, just as I had pictured her. You need a few scale people to go with the music stuff, and to work the ship. That Nocturne that you selected is one of the finest pieces of music I've heard this year.
Excellent Sir, I started the Montane’s last October. Building ships is an art form in its self, you become part of the ship itself believe me there’s nothing like it. I’m about 85% on hull and fixtures. The mast and rigging is another build all in itself. Did you build the case your self, I’m going to do the same. Very nice work indeed!
@@GlennMale Being a Modeller for more than 60 years, I always use the '80/20 Rule." The 80% of the build is the easiest! The last 20%, the 'fine details' take to be be 'right.' You've done an OUTSTANDING job on HMS Surprise, and it is fully understandable that that last 20%... also needs to match such OUTSTANDING work!! =)
Hard to say. 680 hours plus $1,000 for the kit alone. The cost of paints and extra detail fixtures. I had to purchase extra rigging. Then if you include the case. I found one ship as an example for sale. It is more detailed than mine at 10,000 euro's; www.marisstella.hr/ship-model-for-sale-details,22,s-felipe
Thanks Glenn. Unfortunately I lack the skills or the patience to build one myself. Sadly, it would appear that acquiring a model of this quality could be a very expensive option. I’ll keep my eye out as they do sometimes appear in antiques shops or house clearances here in the UK. Great model by way.
@@pf824 Try eBay, you may find some made off shore that are less cost. Not as detailed but some adequate nice. I saw a youtube video of a factory isomewhere that churns them out.
I love this great ship…great job friend!
Absolutely stunning!
Superbly constructed model and very impressive base and case.
Really enjoyed seeing it all come together.
Well done indeed!
An outstanding visual account of an outstanding build of a superb Ship. Thank you sir.
Absolutely a brilliant job. Your attention to detail is superb.
Congratulations - amazing work. ...it looks right at home with the art you've collected.
Beautifully done.
Beautiful...always wanted to build one but don't think I've got the patience for it. Thank you for the video.
Excellent. Congratulations. A great job.
awesome build, very beautiful!!
Indeed, you have Surprise on your side.
Nice model.. I've built this one 8 years ago. Great video. If I remember it's about 750 clove hitch nots on the shroud's.
Very impressive. A glass of wine with you sir?

Thanks. I did add some crew after the film was finished. 1/48 scale crew are hard to find.
@@GlennMale You need a shrinker or stretcher ray gun! Heck shrink a couple handy-men, turn them loose on your projects.
Magnificent
Bravo, Sir! (Steady!)

I did design and build the case. A case is most important for a tall ship.
@@GlennMale That is a great movie!. I’m at 1:70 with this model, going to be a rather large case.
it is beautiful
Thank you
I can almost smell the cheese on toast.
HMS Surprise. May she always have the wind abaft her beam. All Sails aloft and Allow!
Next project: Waakzamheid? Horrible Old Leopard? Sofie?
AMAZING work!! GREAT collection!! Does the kit come with a British Ensign or Battle Flag?
Yes it does They do not look real enough. I am looking for better ones.

Great job think I’d have painted the figure head though

Amazing! How much rigging thread was used in total?
I don't really know but when I ran out of one type I used 10 meters of replacement thread just to do one mast and the bow lines.
I have just roughly calculated about 350 - 400 meters of rigging thread.
excelentе
Fast on a bowline I make no doubt
would you say this is a superior kit to ZHL surprise ?
I am not familiar with that kit. Al has discontinued their surprise so in 1/48 the ZHL kit is the only one.
@@GlennMale ok thanks much glenn!! and i suppose the d'agastino model works was just the AL kit ?
Nice work, very impressed.
I noticed several books lying around. If you don't mind my asking, which ones were most helpful in building this?
The book on mead making, sometimes alcohol is your best tool. Kidding aside, I found the internet was the best source.
100%
