I had one regular customer that had these on his house. Some days they were a nightmare. But he loved them so I kept repairing them and rekeying them for him. Until I couldn’t find replacement parts for them anymore. Thanks for sharing this information to others in this industry.
I've seen one of these before, but I never worked with one. I didn't know Ideal Security made jimmy proof locks. Worked with their storm door hardware, though. Thanks for this, Jason!
Hi Jason. Thanks for sharing your knowledge again. I have never seen one of these before, so if I was to encounter one in the wild, I now know what to do. Thanks again
I have this! I installed in 1978, and it still on my door. It still works. I'm interested in fixing the lock on the "outside" of the door. I need to have it re-keyed. Thanks.
I have PTSD from that lock, every hardware store in KC had a display and sold the heck out of those. I think it was in the 70’s .Wasn’t a bad design really except the material was all die cast and the single cylinder had a lever handle that was always broken and they were always misaligned. This lock caused all of the locksmiths I know set a policy of not installing customer supplied lock , no parts available. I hate Rim locks.
I’m in Liberty outside of KC and still come across them occasionally. Usually opt to swap them out for a regular jimmyproof. I have one I keep as a souvenir in my Stepvan that I never could get apart (cylinder has something wrong with it). It has a wafer cylinder inside a T-handle.
@@selock I saw that I had to unlock a tiny Yale auto latching one a few months ago on a bedroom door the guy said he slammed the door and heard a click turned out the disengage switch on it was spring loaded

I have a few NOS Ideal locks and thought they were like this, but the are just Rim cylinder garage door locks. Very interesting lock.
I’ve dealt with a few jimmyproof locks, but I haven’t seen this type before, fascinating!
Never seen one of those before. Neat!
Good video Jason 👍🏼
Hey Jason before ideal security went out we had one of there manufacturing plants here in east Tn. James estep locksmith in tn
thanks jason!
Can you rake the lock open?
That’s the nicest double cylinder, Jimmy, proof lock, if not, the only, I have ever seen in my life.
Jason, where do you find this stuff?
What a strange design, perhaps non-Ideal? Never seen one before. Thanks for sharing
First time I have ever seen a rim lock that automatically latches and key operated on both sides.
How long you been doing this

@@odinslockllc awesome, I have been to Liberty many times.
These were branded CRAFTSMAN, as well.
The key code # is Only a suggestion 😂 like instructions
Auto latching sounds like job security but also annoying
@@newhouselockandkey it can be switched off (shown towards the end)

@@newhouselockandkey oh yeah, I could imagine that happening pretty easily on those Yale's!
