I just came to find a video explaining how to wind and set time as the store salesman told me if you wind it the wrong way it could break. And you answered my questions, thanks!
Thanks for the honest in depth review. I dont understand how the haters who hate this watch can hate it without any experience of it. I looks like a fun and funky watch. Suits you. I hope the movement lasts. I think the early versions of the system 51 developed problems over time, but these later versions might be more durable.
I can tell you that I hate the idea of a $150k Hyundai without having to experience it first. The reality is that the value in this watch is totally emotional... if you look at it objectively, even people who love it have to admit that it's not worth the price when it comes to the components / quality. There are many people online that have this movement in other models that are complaining about its lack of durability. However, if it brings you enough joy and happiness to justify the price, then it's totally worth the price no matter how much it costs Swatch to manufacture it. If you look at it that way, and you enjoy the ownership experience, then buy it. If you're looking for a long-lasting, durable, high quality timepiece, there are many better options that will fill that role -- so don't buy it. Either way, we all know the internet is a toxic place so what I don't understand is buying something first and then going online looking for validation afterward. That never ends well.
Great review. It's really a beautiful design, very close to the original Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Is it worth it? Yes, because it's so difficult to buy one, it's water resistant, a big plus if you compare to the MoonSwatch, and it's a watch that you can wear everywhere. Some people say you could buy a metal watch more durable for the same price. Yes, but you are not buying the Blancpain design. If you don't intend to buy a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, because it's too expensive, you can buy the affordable version with the Blancpain x Swatch.
I got the blue & grey ones in Hong Kong today, had to go to 2 different shops for each colour, (wouldn't do any of the other colours though) - the proper Fifty Fathoms is retailing here at a list price of HK$ 126,000 so I'm happy with my purchase.
Sistem51 is a non serviceable movement. One screw connects the rotor to the back, the rest of the movement is rivited or spot welded and cannot be disassembled. I learned this after buying a Tissot Swissmatic which is a Sistem51 as well. With the Tissot, the movement can be swapped out. I know Swatch Sistem51 cases are sealed, giving the watch a limited lifespan. I'm assuming the Blancpain has a sealed case as well but I haven't heard any reviewers confirm this so far. Great job on the review!
@@hypeandstyle-watches I imagine with the nature of the material the watch could be easily damaged if one attempted to pry it off.. Thanks for the reply.
Look, I managed to get my Ruhla, Junghans and Kienzle 0 jewels pin pallet serviced. Swatch 51 whatever shouldn't be more difficult, way better material, jewels. If you bring it to the standard watchmaker is a big No, they work for money and are quite on autopilot.
I bought one yesterday in Las Vegas at the New York, New York and I love mine. I was worried about the hacking feature so I started watching some videos about it. I’ve never had to watch that didn’t hack so it was kind of new to me, but I got used to it it was not a dealbreaker definitely a keeper for me
I liked this review, it was honest and insightful, I also like the fact that it's Antarctic one which to me is probably the only one that looks half decent and looks like what it's supposed to be. Plus I'm not a date person either. The only downside I can see to this watch is that it has a higher price tag than the other, and that Swatch had anything to do with its release. Seriously, they still after all the problems with the Moon Swatch haven't learned anything. What will it take for them to see reason, and release this through their online stores rather than in the few stores that remain in operation. They are just helping the flippers, and hurting the genuine watch enthusiasts. On a personal note. Personally, I don't need another divers watch, as I own a Sea-master, but that's not to say this is not a cool watch, it is. And I have to commend you on mentioning the moister indicator and the fact that it actually works as in all the reviews I've watched, (and I have watched a few now?) no one has ever mentioned this. As for the colours, I can't say they do this watch any favours, as I would have much preferred the moon grey case with the black dial, but that's just me.
06:00 Winding it anticlockwise is SUPER weird, since doing it clockwise feels right and sounds right ... I actually need to convince my friend that they were winding it the wrong way by showing them the back of the case where they can see the rotor only moves when the winding is anticlockwise.
@@hypeandstyle-watches I did get the Indian Ocean from the San Francisco Swatch Store two weeks ago. A very stable automatic. I just lay it face-up at night and it barely moves a second. Curious to see if it holds. Not a second of buyer's regret despite the all the "Happy meal toy" comments.
Looks cool, I wouldn't wear it but I can appreciate what they did. Is it a cashgrab? Yes, but a smart one that isnt hurting the industry (except for resellers for the first few months). Thank you for the video
@@LingLing-ou6nt because it's a strategic move from a corporation that banks on fake exclusivity (non limited) by leveraging it's assets (owns collaborating brands) to sell a product at a much higher margin than their own averages (this movement is on pieces that sell for less than $120 retail with a margins already integrated). It's a cash grab but I'm not hating it's just what it is.
These watches are pretty exclusive I mean for me it would be a 6-hour round trip drive to the nearest swatch store for a chance to get one of these because you would have to be an idiot to pay markup from online seller So if I could get one it would be really cool to have something so rare and I guarantee I wouldn't see another one on another wrist
Why don’t you place any intrinsic value on IP design. You speak to the design queues numerous times in your review yet, I feel like you don’t attribute any value to the iconic design for the fifty fathoms. It’s a classic design, therefore there should be some value in that.
A FUN WATCH I'M BUYING THE HOMAGE IN GREEN THAT WILL COST £15 NOTHING MORE. I'M BUYING THIS FOR THE COLOUR/STRAP AND AS A COLLECTOR ITEM. MY ADVICE DON'T BREAK YOUR BACK AND BUY WHAT YOU LIKE BUT DON'T BUY FAKE OR REPLICA WATCHES IT'S NOT WORTH IT INSTEAD BUY HOMAGE.
Cash grab? Genious actually. Great gateway watch plus will make lots of money for the company. Watch brands were actually dying. Everyone wears smart watches now. Actually most my friends dont wear watches at all.
You saying the original is just way to big. Its not at all to big its a perfect size because its an actual dive watch thats what it was designed and bilt to do. Clearly your not a diver so it was never intended for your wrist. And i dont blame them for not making it smaller to please people who look at these as a luxury good and not the tool its actually made to be.
I disagree that it’s better than a moonswatch. Moonswatch is the OG of bioceramic watches even though the blancpain x swatch was created first. Much easier to change a battery and service a quartz movement and kind of makes sense for a plastic watch. If indeed the sistem 51 movement can’t be serviced then I think it’s not worth the $400US ($630AUD) asking price. $460 aussie dollars bought a seiko skx007j1 back in 2019 just to keep things in perspective.
Cracks me up. You get the cheap plastic, non-serviceable version or the expansive, unobtainable version. I like the Mil-Spec version but surprisingly not available. Can they not make a mil-spec version that’s available and affordable with the emphasis on availability. 😮
Yeah good luck buying another one from Swatch store, for the next year you’ll never see another available if you just walk in randomly every week as I do trying to buy Moonswatch Mercury, Moon or Neptune. They are always sold out.
It's part of their retail strategy to drive more foot traffic into the physical stores. Check out all the people walking into a Rolex AD asking for a Sub, knowing full well they won't have them in stock.

They should have made the case from plastic found in the five oceans. Would have gone well with the recycled strap

How many seconds does this Swatch Blancpain gain or lose over a day?
Around 15 to 20 seconds... What i would expect from a Seiko.

21.2mm so a 21mm strap is the way to go.. Weird i know
