Two of the biggest adjustments to the league's rules surrounding interviews are to length and location. Teams interviewing coaches on teams still in the playoffs must limit the entire length of the interview to a maximum of three hours. Additionally, once in-person interviews are permitted in two weeks, those interviews of coaches remaining in the playoffs must be conducted in the employer team's city or at a location approved by the employer's team.

This is all hearsay. Fans should stop comparing Ben Johnson to Sean McVay because McVay’s success is a product of unique circumstances, including his exceptional football IQ, leadership skills, and innovative offensive strategies. Not every young, offensive-minded coach can replicate McVay’s impact, as his achievements also stem from the Rams’ organizational support, player talent, and a willingness to adapt. These comparisons often oversimplify what makes a great coach, ignoring the importance of experience, team fit, and individual coaching philosophy. Attempting to find “the next McVay” can lead teams to overlook well-rounded candidates with diverse backgrounds who might be better suited to their specific needs.
Really liked hearing that Ben expressed a lot of interest in the future of the Bears. Last time I heard him talk about us was with hearing Caleb's fast ball from the sideline, that was it. The fact the he has a plan says a lot. Not only that he at least wants the job (even if its not at the top of his list) but that its at the very least high on his list. That also gives me hope that even if he gets a better offer somewhere else, he might choose us over them because of the opportunity he sees in Caleb and the rest of the team. Bear down! Also FGB! Eagles 22-10 rn lol.
@@gilbertlloyd8691 My point is that he's not a real coach. He played QB at the HS! How is he coaching WR and TE. Most position coaches are not actually coaches. They are more like assistants, they supervise drills and scout the team they're playing in the next game. Ben Johnson has never been a coach and has played very little football. He's not ready.
@gilbertlloyd8691 Those coaches you named have 17-20 years working in the NFL. And all played football at the college level at least. Shanhan is the son of an NFL coach so he has experience and a pedigree. Ben has only been a coordinator since 2019. He played HS football. That's it. He's never Ben a coach at any level, and has only held position group coach, ( who most are not real coaches)
This fan base never ceases to make my eyes roll ALL the way in the back of my head. Everyone jock-riding Ben’s Johnson (pun intended), who has ZERO head coaching experience. Yea, because unproven coordinators with no head coaching experience always work out so well here in Chicago. 🤣 It’s a total crapshoot. The guy can be an AMAZING coordinator, then transition to head coach and it all falls apart. That’s what happened to Eberflus. The Bears were also “blown away” by him in interviews, too, along with Shane Waldron. This team is primed and ready to run, with a few more key player acquisitions needed. You do not gamble in a situation like this. You go with the proven successful leader, and that man is Pete Carroll. Sorry, but pin this comment and come back here in a year or two, when they hire Johnson and everyone is calling for his head. It’s like passing over Phil Jackson for Fred Hoiberg. You guys are genuinely huffing paint. The guy has won on every stage. College, NFL…..doesn’t matter. He can lead men, he commands respect immediately, and he can win. I’m not saying Johnson might not work out, but why take a huge chance?? Situationally, it makes no sense. You have an organization in absolute disarray, where an inexperienced head coach and former coordinator was just literally run out of town by players. You do not go ahead and hire another inexperienced coordinator. You need to get the locker room under control and create a new winning culture, and Pete Carroll’s mere presence immediately does that. His multiple rings command immediate respect. It says “I’ve been here for a long time and I know what I’m doing.” The players fall right in line. There’s nothing they can say back to that. Caleb is flakey and flighty. He needs an experienced and proven winning coach to lead him and get him in line.
FGB! Hey Nic, it is kind of hard to hire Ben Johnson ASAP because the Lions season hasn't ended might not end till after Super Bowl LIX on February 9th. The Bears might have to wait till Monday after the SB on February 10th. 🤔😑
Ok! Impressed with inerview; but it doesn't change the fact that Ben is a rookie HC experiment sharing info for legacy franchise without experience on all 3 sides. Not a proven HC for vets and rookie players.
How do you know he’s the right guy.. cause he calls plays as a good OC? I’m sure it’s much different being a HC and a leader amongst men. It’s gonna take more than just being able to call plays I’m not sold on this dude yet.. not for the BEARS 🫤
As a long time bears fan I finally come to the realization the franchise does not respect or care about its fans. Do not go to the games sell your season tickets. Do not go to games until they sell the team. Hit them where it hurts in their pockets I bet will get their attention then
You’re just hearing and repeating what is being said by others. My question is if Johnson’s offensive will stand up to Chicago’s weather. Seeing that the majority of Detroit games were in a dome. I’m behind Johnson because of his success but he’s not the only candidate. I personally believe they need to speak with Todd Monken. His offense led Georgia to back to back national championships. And what he’s done in Baltimore has been stellar. In fact they may win the Superbowl!
It's so cute how many fans think that the Bears are deciding whether Johnson is going to be hired as HC. Ben Johnson is deciding where he wants to be HC. Johnson is interviewing the Bears. Of course its quite possible that Johnson wants to be in Chicago and the Bears just screw it up. I believe the biggest competition for his services is the Raiders. Brady is part owner and they have lots of cap space. Where the Bears have the advantage is that they have their franchise qb already. It seems that Mayo was fired just so that the Patriots could hire Vrabel. I can't see the Bears breaking that up.
You continue to overlook a key hangup. Is Bean Johnson enamored with the Bears. I hope he signs because this franchise missed out on a good one with Vrabel.
I did warn you at the start of all this about the pitfalls of interviewing everyone and their brother. Would be kinda funny if the Bears finally finish interviewing everyone on their list and be ready to make a decision only to find that all the good coaches have already been hired by other teams.
The thing is, they can't hire a coach or even agree to hire a coach from a team that is still playing. So if their top choice for coach is still playing they have to wait. They might lose out on some other coaches whos teams are no longer playing or guys who aren't currently coaching if other teams snatch them up, but that is the risk you have to take if the guy you really want is still coaching. I get what you're saying though. 🐻⬇️✌️✝️
Ben Johnson may not be the leader that Dan Campbell is but he would be like Kevin O'Connell is at Minnesota who also was an offensive coordinator before becoming the Vikings' head coach. With Ben Johnson as head coach, it would be great if Aaron Glenn came with him to lead our defensive unit.
Aaron Glenn would be a good fit for the Raiders. He can establish a respectable team while they search for a QB. I'm a fan of all these Coaches finding the right fit as it's good for the game.
After watching JD5 win at TB. We really need to reconsider Kliff Kingsbury if he hasn’t been. JD5 is playing great - having a good OL is everything. That kid right now looks better than most veterans
Could not like this video fast enough and comment FGB fast enough. But great news about Johnson & Glenn. Agreed Glenn is my #1 option IF we went with a DC.
The Bears need to interview 2 minority candidates in person (not Zoom) before they can offer a contract to any coach. This is why NE was able to hire Vrabel so quickly.
FGB!! I really want Ben Johnson and hope he was just as impressed with this opportunity as the Bears top brass were with him. They need to strike while the iron is hot. Why is Aron Glen even a candidate. His D was ranked 7 this year, 16 last year and 32nd the year before that. Why would we be excited about a dude less successful as a DC than the guy we just fired? What the actual F..!
The question is is Johnson impressed with the Bears as far as showing him that they will give him what he needs to win. If he's not convinced he may go somewhere else
If soon to be former Lions coordinators either or but Ben Johnson has a heck of a great interview, Don't hesitate to lose him for another team because nine times out of ten, If you want to get this coach right, then this is the guy for you to turn the tables of a messy dumpster fire. He heads to Las Vegas then you will miss out on both Johnson and Vrabel who now with his alma mater in New England in which that he should succeed instead of Mayo.
Never seen any reports on Ben Johnson being a name to look out for when it comes to the bears this offseason. Seen a lot of smoke with raiders tho from Ian rappaport and Adam schefter🤷🏽♂️
It's a pretty low bar to be impressed with coaching candidates considering who they've hired in the past. They are guaranteed to screw this up, too. More futility on the horizon.
"Great News" the bears are impressed, duh, now tell me that Ben Johnson is impressed. Sorry to sound bitter, Nick but I just gotta feeling the 3 amigos are gonna blow this.
Look up the rules - Bears have to conduct an in person interview with Ben Johnson which the NFL rules do not allow you to do for a playoff team until they are eliminated. If the Lions make it to the Super Bowl, they can interview him in late Jan. 20- Feb 2. If you want them to get Ben Johnson, you are going to need to wait. They have plenty of time to interview whoever they want between now and then. So, please stop saying they need to move soon if they want Johnson. They literally cannot move to an in person interview until late Jan. Same with Aaron Glen. So tired of the negative Nancies in these chats. If you want Vrabel, you would have to forego Johnson and Glenn. Same with Carroll. Live with it.
I don't doubt that the Bears are impressed with Johnson and Glen, but who is reporting this? Is it a Chicago media source or a national one. Whoever it is has some pretty good connections to the front office if they're willing to reveal details about closed-door interviews.
Not thrilled to bring in yet another first-time HC. There is so much that needs done that having to navigate being first time Hc will just stifle righting the ship for yet another season. Then there's a GM with a less than solid future who has to go balls to the wall to fix the trenches. If they do go with Johnson I hope he demands Poles supplies him with the players he wants. Because, Flus didn't. And as you said there's the Mc Crapskys meddling in all this. But don't be surprised if their meddling doesn't saddle up with Carol or heaven forbid Rivera.
Bears will somehow screw this up, they always do. They’ll take their time interviewing 20 more candidates, and by the time they’re done, all the really good head coach prospects will already be signed with other teams. They’ll hire some scrub that’s left over, and boast how “he was our guy the whole time.” 🙄
I don't understand how the losing teams who are a disgrace to mankind, just go and pick a candidate from a winning team for the year and want to make them a HC, Anyone can be impressive at a interview. Obviously we need someone good.
I agree Nic we have to jump and get our guy. Vrabel being signed is what will happen with Johnson and others and we will just settle for someone! It’s being reported the Raiders fired their GM as they want the GM and HC to start a new era and which also will get Johnson’s attention since he would like to bring the Lions Assistant GM with him. And you know Tom Brady is behind that. If we want Johnson we better go get him now!
@@MattGunn-r6jwrong Ben Johnson impress with Raiders and Brady will give him control and he will choose his GM which bears don’t got as leverage cause there keeping Poles as GM they better fire poles to get Ben Johnson which won’t happen also no taxes and 2nd in cap space 5th in dead cap bears or 7th cap space with 24th dead cap we got the money and Brady will give Johnson Control also Ian reported Ben Johnson to the raiders is a done deal both are interested with each other
First I’ll just say this, the Bears cannot nor ANY team can officially hire a coach whose season isn’t over. Also even if the Lions are still playing they cannot bring any coach whose team has not been eliminated until AFTER the divisional round so they cannot just sign him now. Second, I’m not sold on Johnson in the least bit. No matter what the sport how many times do we have to fall all over an assistant coach only to find out they are horrible. Remember how Adam Gase was supposed to be the next genius head coach that was an offensive coordinator. Remember how the Dolphins just had to get an up and coming offensive coordinator to pair with their young QB so they hired Cam Camron over Tomlin. Do we also remember how much of a joke people thought it was for the Lions to hire Campbell who was a tight ends coach in New Orleans. The Bears need to hire the right coach, not the most popular, not because they coordinated the offense and not for any other arbitrary reason. If they need to go through the process then so be it, all I care about that s getting it right.

Let's do this Bear sign him fast before he goes anywhere else
What are the rules to signing Johnson? Can you sign him now with just a tele interview if you want or do you need to wait till the lions are out?
Don't mean nothing if Tom convinces him to go to Vegas
lets not foget, these are the same people in charge who were "blown away" by shane waldron......... smh
Don’t want Ben Johnson need a proven head coach
Never seen any reports on Ben Johnson being a name to look out for when it comes to the bears this offseason. Seen a lot of smoke with raiders tho from Ian rappaport and Adam schefter🤷🏽♂️
Ben Johnson HC Rivera DC?
It's a pretty low bar to be impressed with coaching candidates considering who they've hired in the past. They are guaranteed to screw this up, too. More futility on the horizon.
I’d be fine with either of them as HC
"Great News" the bears are impressed, duh, now tell me that Ben Johnson is impressed. Sorry to sound bitter, Nick but I just gotta feeling the 3 amigos are gonna blow this.
Maybe the bears should move like the pats. Being deliberate is just stupid at this point man.
I’m ok with Pete as well or Ben
I remember when we thought an offensive coordinator named Matt Nagy was going to take us to the promised land .
Can they hire both? Johnson as HC and Glen as DC?
They can only hire one of the two. The job has to be head coach or nothing, can’t go from coordinating to coordinating. Has to be a promotion.
They was impressed by a lot of bums they ended up firing or being wrong on
Look up the rules - Bears have to conduct an in person interview with Ben Johnson which the NFL rules do not allow you to do for a playoff team until they are eliminated.
Ben Johnson. Pay da man!!!!
bears need to put ben johnson and rivera on this team right now
Not one person knows how the interviews went. That stuff doesn’t leak out.
Ben will be our next head coach. 🐻⬇️
As a lions fan I hear that the raiders are pushing for Johnson as well
Raiders are the front runners. With bowers, jakobi Meyer’s on O they just need a qb and some oline help
I’m hoping for Ben and Robert salah!
Who’s next if Johnson goes to Raiders and Glen, who’s already rumored, goes to the Saints? Asking for a friend.
I like Todd Monken too. Also we can't do anything with Ben until the Lions are out.
They need Ben and Glen
Dam right!!
Might as well trade for Dan Campbell too and hire Brad Holmes 😂
When won’t have Ben and Glen
Nic. I agree. Keep your list short.
I don't doubt that the Bears are impressed with Johnson and Glen, but who is reporting this? Is it a Chicago media source or a national one. Whoever it is has some pretty good connections to the front office if they're willing to reveal details about closed-door interviews.
If they were blown away, then offering him a contract, he can't refuse.
Hey Nick suppose Ben Johnson don't want to sign right away? What then?
right now sign him..
Bears will somehow screw this up, they always do. They’ll take their time interviewing 20 more candidates, and by the time they’re done, all the really good head coach prospects will already be signed with other teams. They’ll hire some scrub that’s left over, and boast how “he was our guy the whole time.” 🙄
Raiders getting Ben Johnson
Skip the silly interviews with Coaches you have no intention of hiring and hire Ben Johnson. Thanks for the valuable info.
How can you sign him when he is still actively coaching 🧐… we truly don’t know what happens behind the scenes just gotta be patient
I bet they’re more impressed with Ben Johnson than Ben Johnson is impressed with the Bears.
BEN JOHNSON TO RAIDERS NATION
Y'all getting Rex Ryan lol
Raider nation. Not raiders nation
@@MattGunn-r6jwrong Ben Johnson impress with Raiders and Brady will give him control and he will choose his GM which bears don’t got as leverage cause there keeping Poles as GM they better fire poles to get Ben Johnson which won’t happen also no taxes and 2nd in cap space 5th in dead cap bears or 7th cap space with 24th dead cap we got the money and Brady will give Johnson Control also Ian reported Ben Johnson to the raiders is a done deal both are interested with each other
Sign Ben immediately !!! We need a Smart Coach ! Go Bears !!!
Go with Johnson and bring in the great Doug Plank as a defensive coordinator.
Get Johnson and Glenn?
Well with Vrabel now a HC at NE, Johnson is the obvious choice.
Ben Johnson HC, OC 😊😊😊
You’re delusional a lot of people interview well but they suck at their jobs
Ben Johnson is going to Vegas
I just hope the bears don't muck this one up like they did the Jim Harbaugh coaching search last off season.
