I'm considering the elective residence permit and consequently have been watching videos on the subject. Of the several I've seen, this was clearly the best: two intelligent, articulate people with an informative summary--and no annoying, generic background music. You also provide useful details the others omitted: 1) confirmed that housing must be secured--even prior to acceptance--and, 2) purchase of housing enhances the likelihood of acceptance. Grazie mille Signori !
Thank you, great video. I was so excited about retiring to Italy. After watching this, I'm very disappointed. Italy wants my wife and I to buy a house...for us, $350,000 euros budget...before even knowing whether we can live long term in Italy or not, since our qualifying passive income doesn't quite (so close) meet the requirements. The level of risk seems sky high...and a deal-breaker. I read online where someone referred to Italy's Elective visa as the "rich person" visa. Now I know why. I guess I'll move to France instead. Heartbroken.
Excellent information. Thank You. Except please clarify about the income for two. Everything I read for a couple was around $36,000-38,000. Per year. Which is correct? Marco states differently. Thank You in advance.
Thanks for all the good content and info. Have a few questions: 1. Does the time you are physically there is the time that counts towards the 5/10 year requirements for permanent visa and citizenship or is it total time having the visa status? Say I leave for 6 months to go to travel in Asia, does that time not count? 2. Can one initiate the process, interview, etc and travel to Italy as a US citizen while awaiting the residency visa status or are you obligated not to enter in the meantime even if you own property there? 3. What alternatives are there for US citizens wanting this but that may or may not go back to the US and work a few weeks/year since they may not be of "retirement age" yet and therefore not eligible for pensions and retirement plans/SS? In other words, early retirement age people. Thanks
Lovely. I’m a student & our San Francisco Italian Consulate will process my visa at 7 days - this is for a semester Visto- I would love to buy a property- love Abruzzo- cepagatti Commune
I have been issued an Elective Residency Visa because I make enough stable passive income, and I own a home in Sardinia. Am I able to be self-employed at my own company while I live in Italy on My Elective Residency Visa, or is working of any sort not permitted? Please note, I will not work for any company based in the EU, I will only work remotely for US-based clients. Also, am I able to AirBnB a second property in Italy that I own (not my primary residence)? Thanks for your assistance.
Question: At the 2:20 mark in the video Marco states that the income requirement for an Italian Retirement Visa is about $3,000/month *per person*. All of my searches say the requirement is €31,000/year (~$3,000/month) for an individual and €38,000/year (~$3,700/month) for a married couple. Is it true that the requirement is ~$6,000/month or did Marco mis-speak? Thanks!
I am like yourself interested in this program. I didnt realize one like this existed for Italy. Did you get any more details on the financial requirement $3K per each member or incremental add on for additional member. Appreciate your findings. Thanks
Question? I submitted an applications pak and to Italian post office. I has been waiting for over 6 month to get an appointment for fingerprints. I still have no response from a questura. My ERV is valid until November 4. Will I be able to stay in Italy after that time waiting for an appointment ?
Hello....If you are approved for the visa is there a limit of the number of times you can return back to your country(usa in our case) during the year.
Is the passive income based on gross passive income or net passive income? For instance, I have a rental property. Do I need to subtract property tax and insurance from the total?
Thank you so much for addressing this topic however the information that each person in a couple needs 3k per month is incorrect. A married couple needs to provide proof of 38k euros per year.
Hello Chloe, thank you for your comment; we are aware that some sources indicate that the amount required is only increased by a certain percentage for the spouse. However we have had direct experience with several consulates in the US which require the full amount for each person in the family.
How about if i collect example $1500.00 monthly of Pension but I have a lump sum of savings in my Bank Account I do not need to work nor do i wanna work.......+ purchasing a house or apartment....and I'm an italian descent....Retiring...
If a Couple from the US or anywhere else wants to Retire in Italy and 1 Person of the Couple is an Italian Citizen, then would the Elective Residency Visa be for the Non-Citizen as well as what about the Income Requirement?
I have a question for my friend. She is born in USA but her mother and father were born in Italy. Her entire ancestry is from Italy even though she was born and raised in the USA. She speaks italian and has made multiple trips over any years during her life. Both her parents are deceased. The father died last year and he left her and her sister a house in Italy which is completely paid for. She and her sister are owner of their house free and clear. She wants to get an elective residency Visa so she can go back and forth and be able to stay there for at least 4 months at a time and eventually once she is ready to retire and can get her pension, her goal is to retire there. But for right now she is not of retirement age yet and she still wants to work in the USA. She wants to be able to go there for extended periods of time beyond 3 months and still be able to maintain her job in the USA which her employers have no problem keeping her employed. The only other additional income she gets is permanent alimony which is only around 1300. a month. She's one person and this is more than enough money for her to sustain herself. Can she get an elective residency Visa? Thank you
Ok, so I have a friend with a place in Italy & she & her husband has offered me to stay for free. If the contract I'd take to the visa appointment says that, would they consider lightening up on the 3,000/per month?
How do you time a lease with the elective visa from usa when there is a three month window of how it can take to get appointment and the possible three month approval. Do you ask the landlord to start the lease six months out?
Hi Tray, yes you may have to work out some special provisions with the landlord or get a longer agreement (for instance a 3 years agreement with a six months termination notice)
I have dual citizenship and planning on retiring in Italian ASAP. My mom may come with me. She’s not a citizen. Will she need this visa? Or is there a way for her to be with me through family of citizen?
Question . Does the amount needed for the visa go from being a fixed amount if you purchased property, while becoming subjective to the individual processor when you only have a lease agreement?
Hello! No. It’s still subjective. But if you own a property the consulate might be more inclined to accept a lower amount (which must be above the limit)
@@ItalianCitizenshipAssistance "which must be above the limit" ... so even if purchase a property, a couple still needs approximately 37,000 euros to get the Elective visa?? If so, I don't understand saying " the consulate might be more inclined to accept a lower amount ".
Grazie mille! Che buona notizie! I asked because a friend told me that they may check on me at my apartment to make sure that I stay there for the entire year. So, I can stay in Torino, then move to Verona?
Italy has the same problems as the U.S .Everyone comes across the ocean in rafts and they aren’t deported.Only law abiding folks need the proper requirements to remain in the country.
USA is a FREE country isn't it as the politicians claim. Free for free loaders while Tax payers will shoulder the burden. With all the computers and systems in place you tell me they cant control illegals? BS. They want to bring the illegals to get their vote so can get elected and loot money for their next gen.
The US does have this in place. I am from Canada and came to the USA. I had to prove that I was above the poverty threshold in order to be accepted (in addition to a lot of paperwork and fees). The laws are there but they don't uphold them anymore, except for the law abiding.

Day trading income is not passive. It's earned by trading. It's a job.
I dont think so....how about getting a real job instead of gambling and calling it day trading..
