Veterans use dark humor as a coping mechanism for the hardships they literally battle though. It also creates a comradery between them. And when it is projected with sarcasm, it becomes a form of affection between team mates. Dark humor has a place in helping people heal from things others cannot imagine.
Thank you Kris for all you do. And for being honest about yourself while doing it. You are beautiful and the world needs more of what you bring.

As a man, I have always preferred to have female friends over male friends, because I found them to be more accepting of talking about issues without needing to make a joke about it. Thankfully, it seems that more men are learning to be emotionallhy intelligent and take their friend issues seriously, and the perception is changing.

@ImAHqPP7boy All my best friends throught my life have been women. Not because I conciously chose to do that, but because among my friends in different stages in life, I tended to gravitate more towards these women.
I would be happy to have a man as a best friend someday, but "best friends" are not chosen, in my opinion, that is a relationship that grows organically, or it doesn't at all.

I'm adopted and I only have adhd, clinical recurring depression, anxiety disorders and panic disorder and insomnia. Just make sure you tell the child about adoption at the right age and in a caring way. My mom put a kids book about it in my room and I read it when I was 4, she knew I could read since 18 months. I also was taught to swim when I was 6 months. I might be a alien. Seriously though adoption is a great option and I think you would be a great mother.

Exactly. Asking for help is really hard. Specially when our brain make us think it's not the right thing to do for various reasons. But after do it. You gain strength. And with therapy you begin to learn how to deal with the bad thoughts, and things start to get better. There's always darkwr days, but you feel stronger to face them. Stay strong, and you will only get stronger and happier. I've also been in very dark places, and we are not alone. Most important thing is to keep fighting.

Thank you for going over, even slightly, about men being depressed and the overturn of culture for it being more appropriate and acceptable to acknowledge these feelings.
I've been struggling with depression for probably close to 12 years now, and I turn 30 next month. These past few weeks have actually been the toughest for my mentality. I've been giving up on activities that I used to enjoy, I've been sleeping way more throughout the day just for it to be over quicker, and I don't really care for the comfort of others at the moment. Even my S/O which pains me to say that. I haven't found help yet and I am honestly scared to, because I am afraid to let people in sometimes, especially in all the nitty-gritty details, and this rough patch I'm going through currently has been, like, BAD. Sharing this little info is easy for me though, and thank you for allowing me to use it to, just.. get some of it out. Thank you

You've described what sounds like "anhedonia" which is an inability to feel pleasure. It robs you of the joy of life and is a component of Major Depressive Disorder (as opposed to regular Depression, though anhedonia doesn't necessarily mean it is MDD). Anhedonia can make it hard to find joy and comfort in other people as well. Maybe you and your SO can find some comfort in that fact.
7 years ago my depression was extremely bad. I had the anhedonia, and it had progressed to full on apathy. Nothing mattered anymore. I wanted to not be around anymore, I just couldn't leave anyone with survivor's guilt. I finally decided I was going to get better. I found help and between medication and therapy I did get better. I got so much better, and learned good coping skills, and I even got off the antidepressants. So there can definitely be a light at the end of the tunnel, you just gotta get up, and get moving.
Best of luck to you, I genuinely hope you find the means to feel better.
