@@mehchocolate1257 Yes, the regular MREs usually have a date of manufacture. Then the MREs are usually good for two years after that date. However, I think on this type of meal, you could go by the expiration date stamped on each individual package. Of course, most items will last longer than the dates stamped, like canned goods from a store. I've eaten canned goods years after the expiration date stamped on the can. Just have to be very careful if you do that. TFW
Vlad, oh my goodness! I think my next review will be the French MRE you sent. I keep hearing great things about the French food so I am REALLY looking forward to tasting that one. You, sir, are too kind!
We make up a lot of DIY camp meals here in the Philippines. Canned fish, especially tuna products, play a significant role in this. Fortunately, we can get many size sachets of "real" mayonnaise at local supermarkets. Sizes range from ketchup packets to large ones intended to refill your glass mayonnaise jar. The next size up from the tiny ketchup packet is perfect for turning a can of tuna into filling for two sandwiches. The fat going rancid is the problem with "real" mayo). That is especially true in our hot climate. We have to rotate stock regularly for that reason.
You know, about the fat free mayonaisse. There is a thing we do with fish and mayo in our country. Either a salad or as a spread on the bread for holidays. Open the tuna pack, open the mayo. Put the mayo in the tuna pack, add salt/pepper. Close the tuna pack and mix it like you mix ye'old cheese spread pack. Then eat out of the pack with a spoon. Maybe add the little crackers into the pack too and eat with spoon.
Great FSR vid👍 You will be happy to know that the test phase of these also included The Marines (OCS Quantico) but was originally tested by US Forest Service firefighters and Army Rangers.
The FS ration is like finding a garage miles from anywhere and having to buy very questionable snacks for food as you are starving and you have no other choice lol. I think its the first time I've seen you spit out ration food that's not 30yrs old lol. Great review! :)
It's way better and cheaper to go dicks sporting goods or bass pro. Pick and choose your single mountain house meals and make your own MRE with your favorite flavors.
Fun video , I was a wildland fire fighter in the pacific northwest, we got MRE's and bagged lunches . I had a rule for bagged lunch eat vegetarian, don't eat the rainbow ham . I never saw anybody sick on a MRE so no matter how bad the taste is it has it's good points
Just watched a bunch of videos, thanks for the entertainment. My favorite MRE from my time in the Army has to be Beef Taco, taking the cheese spread and mashing it into the taco meat before scooping up chunks of the mixture with the tortilla. Pretty sure you always got M&Ms, licorise or Skittles with it as well. Maybe one day I'll be strong enough to ingest one again.
I was in the 82nd Airborne when they rolled these first strike rations out. They're great for fuel on the go, that's about it. The only components I liked were the jerky, nuts and first strike bars, but even then it's just a utility, fuel for the body. If you want taste you'll be disappointed, Haha. The caffeinated gum was also a blessing, keeps you up on night watch.

As much as I love the folks who defend us I am thinking the US rations are disappointing. France and Spain are doing a far better job keeping our troops going. And I know most of the time they eat from mobile food messes. But for a week or two on a big deployment our troops deserve much better. Both in nutrition and taste.
The FSRs I've tried in the past were shelf stable junk food found in most gas stations IMHO, except for the garlic chicken breast which I found delicious although a bit messy. Those Bridgford "hot pocket" items all need more cowbell (filling); they might as well just given a loaf of bread and some vitamins. They're convenient but disappointing IMHO. Good luck and God bless.
