Splendid!! So glad to see Baguio City (Loakan Airport) finally get commercial airline service again! On my 3rd visit to Baguio City in March 1997 (now married for 29 years to a wonderful young lady from Baguio City) we were suppose to fly PAL from Manila to Baguio but we were a few minutes late getting to the domestic terminal in Manila and missed our flight. A Filipino nearby heard of our plight and informed me that there's a new (at that time) airline company that flies to Baguio (Asian Spirit), they happened to have their ticket office a few doors from where we were and we quickly went there and were able to book four tickets to Baguio with the flight leaving in an hour. At that time, they used the de-Havilland Dash 7 (4 engine prop aircraft) and we got safely to Baguio after about an hour long flight. Later that month we were able to use the PAL ticket we still had for the return flight to Manila; PAL was using the Fokker 50 twin prop aircraft at the time. Looking forward to any future trip reports to/from Baguio City and Loakan Airport.

The Mactan Cebu International Airport will have the first two parallel runways in the Philippines. Ang kagandahan sa airport na ito madaling expand kung kinakailangan dahil nasa gilid ng dagat. So,walang problema ito for future expansion dahil pwede lang magreclaim
However, the two runways can't be used simultaneously as the distance between them doesn't meet the international safety standard for simultaneous landing or takeoff. But it is a welcome addition nonetheless as it will serve as an alternate runway in case an accident happens similar to Korean Airways who overshot the runway during the landing on a bad weather.

@@taamay Not true. No relocation of MEPZ 1 is ongoing. Pls. don't spread fake news that might confuse people. It was only a suggestion but was met with strong opposition from MEPZ 1 locators as it can be very costly in their part. There was no serious discussion yet between the stakeholders (city officials, MCIA Board, MEPZ 1 officials, community) with regards to the relocation plan. But the planned expansion of MCIA to build another terminal (T3), an internal transport system (monorail to link all terminals) and a full-serviced runway is still being considered though. If MEPZ 1 shall be relocated somewhere, the locators should be amply compensated for the huge expenses of building their new facilities.
The airport is kinda challenging to land, the air is thin and you have to decelerate quickly once you touchdown or else you will overshoot and fall on another cliff specifically if you approach rwy 09. I would also like to add casual poor visibility due to unpredictable weather, would recommend to install ILS. That's why light aircraft is recommended like PAL is using in this video. Good job pilot

Baguio is not a metropolitan city. Baguio City is just one small single entity. There are only two true metropolitan centers in the Philippines: Metro Manila and Metro Cebu. A metropolitan area is defined as a contiguous conurbation or agglomeration of densely-populated built-up areas consisting of towns and cities sharing industries, commercial areas, transportation network, infrastructures and housing. While Metro Manila is composed of 16 cities and one municipality, Metro Cebu is composed of 7 cities and 6 municipalities but Metro Cebu is almost twice bigger than Metro Manila in terms of land area. Metro Davao is not also a true metropolitan center because its built-up areas are not contiguous. Trivia: at 16:31 to 16:37 you can see in the distance the wreck of the Korean Air A330 that overran Runway 22 two months ago. At first it's not clear which runway you're taking off from, but at 17:31 to 17:33 you can see the old runway, Runway 04 Right. That means you took off from the new runway, 04 Left. I had not known this runway was already operational. Yours must have been one of the first flights to use the new runway.
2nd runway will be operational nxt year 3rd quarter 2023, thats not the old runway 17:31 , its the taxi way from the cesna hangar that is used in the academy/aviation school. this plane takeoff from Runway 04R which is the main and original runway about 3.3 km. the 2nd runway will be seen from the port side of the plane when taking off from Runway04R, starboard side of the plane when takingoff/landing from runway 22L. in the video 17:31 , it was taken from the starboard side of the plane facing the general Aviation road in lapulapu city.
Korean air plane overrun at Runway04R facing the basak lapulapu, it seems you misunderstood the numbers in the runway, runway22 R / 04L share the same runway which is the RUnway 1, when the 2nd parallel runway will be finished, it will be Runway 22L / 04R .
Sovy- T34, thanks for the clarification. You're correct about the plane in this video taking off from the taxiway. A bit unusual, takeoffs are from runways, but it seems they did authorize takeoffs from this taxiway. As for the Korean plane, it landed on Rwy 22 and overshot Rwy 22, no question about that. They moved the wreck to the east and it now faces the runway at about 90°. So you can say it's at the end and to the left of Rwy 22 or at the beginning and to the right of Rwy 04.
UPDATE: As of July 1, 2024, this flight is permanently canceled due to low demand.

Wow, thanks for the insight! Good eye! 👍👍 Yeah, I also saw the wreck of the Korean Air. Can’t believe it has been 2 months and it’s still there. 😟
@@Sovy-T34 Thanks for the clarification! 👍
