FYI The BICOL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT located at Daraga, Albay is SUB STANDARD. It doesnt comply with ICAO Annexes ,Documents & SARPs. There are NO AIRCRAFTS HOLDING AREAS and this is the reason why BIA rightnow has no INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT and even in the futures unless CAAP reconstruct the design. Local Airlines AWARE the main problems both ( technical or operational aspects). Also both end of Rwy 05/23 has HIGH TENSION WIRES OF NGCP. The public questions why CAAP Officials ( main office ) allowed it to name BICOL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT or even recommneded to use "Internatioanal Airport" wherein in fact it should never be called one for lack of ICAO compliance with internatioanal standards and its blatant disregard therein. During final inaugural flight with the presence of former Pres. Duterte/ Tugade/ CAAP Officials themselves FAILED to mention that there is no AIRCRAFT HOLDING AREA nor the presence of BAY area which should be at least 3 ( BIA has only 2 bay outside for International standards ). The present airport at Daraga should only be called BICOL AIRPORT. The ARRIVAL/ DEPARTURE AREA signage for International flight but there are no passengers but with seats, the area could be used for other purpose. Its a waste and useless. Arrival/ Departure could be used for Commercial businesses . CAAP comply ICAO SARPs.
It might take a year or two. Yung Bohol airport ganun din, it takes alot of time. Since having a route requires enough passengers and profitability for the commercial airlines.
I remember this airport had a groundbreaking during Aquino government that was pushed by Salceda. Somehow politics gotten involved within liberal parties, then namatay nalang ang continuation of building this project. Then PRRD came to power, Salceda talked with PRRD when PRRD had a campaign. Then PRRD told former DOTr Tugade to go and see what he can do to the project. Then by 2018, they had engineers redesigned the airport not a domestic but an international to accommodate the future plan to expand the tarmac and airport. About 30% of the airport, sinunog ng NPA terorista ang mga machineries and heavy equipments, it was like 11 heavy equipments was destroyed and burned down. Then looted some of the tools that was there, even the tarmac they poured fuel to make sure the fire make a large blaze and could spread to the buildings. Authorities told, they did it quickly and had no time to burn the entire place, not to get caught.
