    You guys are doing a great job of capturing the natural rugged beauty of Maine's coastlands. Your gentle editing style coupled with good narrative and lovely music make for a wonderful video experience. Absolutely love your videography, the angles and framing you catch both in the environment and of the boat itself. I've been glued to SV Delos since the pandemic started, and just got on to your channel in the last month or so. Absolutely love your work, both as a companion view to Delos and as a standalone, Bill and Grace, you are hitting the nail on the head. Can't wait to continue to the journey with you both!

    UA-cam reading my mind again. Would really love to set up our boat with a staysail. Can't figure out where I'd attach the inner forestay. Anyway, have had on a previous boat and loved it. Good video!

    • @CalicoSkiesSailing
      @CalicoSkiesSailing  3 роки тому +2

      UA-cam is good at that :) It's awesome to have! It took a bit of engineering to setup. We were lucky that we tackled a revamp of the foredeck when we added a windless. We created a strong G10 shelf, glued and glassed to the underside of the deck to hold the windless. This made a great spot to add an inner stay attachment point. We put two oversized D ring bolted together with the underside ring lashed to a new chainplate attached to the anchor locker bulkhead. We showed the setup of the shelf in EP. 46. We may do a flashback episode for the inner stay attachment.

    • @TheOKellys
      @TheOKellys 3 роки тому

      Yeh that’s how we did it on the Peterson 46. Chain locker into a full bulkhead. Now we’ve got a cat and .....it’s a bit complicated. But I’ve seen it done on a big Voyage, so maybe at some point I can engineer it. Working jibs just should t be reefed too far.

    First look at your channel. I immediately noticed the great camera eye you have. The best I've seen, I think. I bought a place on Deer Isle, not to far from Seal Cove. Learning on my Quickstep 24. Some overnights to North Haven and Vinalhaven. Dropped hook in Seal Cove last year due to a tip from a sailor I met in Frenchboro. Had no idea about the wind generators there. But such a beautiful spot. Cheers.

      We had it up in about 30-35 knots true but going downwind, we were using a reefed poled out genoa and staysail on the other side, we were very impressed with how double headsail stabilized the motion of the boat. Haven't tried it upwind in big air yet, although we typically try and avoid that 🙃. This is what our sailplan looks like now
      Head sails
      Assym 1100 sq ft
      Code Zero 574 sq ft
      Genoa 130% 424 sq ft
      100% Working 297 sq ft

    A Genoa is not a Jib. A jib is not a Genoa. If you talk sailor, please be clear and correct. A Genoa is greater than 100% of the foretriangle, it overlaps the mast. A jib is 100% or less. It barely, or does not, overlap the mast. Slutter is a crude term. You created a double headsail sloop. Which is fine, and often very effective.

    • @darrengladstone3159
      @darrengladstone3159 8 місяців тому

      Slutter is a recognized term for a solent rig with an additional head stay. Note the stay attaches at mast head different from a cutter.
      And a Genoa is a type of jib. It's one of those " not all jobs are genoas, but all genoas are jibs things". Also a Genoa is a sail that was literally introduced in a 1920's race in the city Genova, where the jib was overlapping.
