Totally dumb brain now and then for sure, I just like to remember he's got another side that I'm really envious and impressed with too, and think that's pretty sweet.
I have never played a game of chess against anyone like Arin. He plays like he's being slowly, methodically fed into a wood chipper. And I can't tell if he's playing it up for comedic effect or genuinely going to pieces so fast that Danny is being hit with shrapnel.
I think its a bit of both. Dan seems to feel that he's getting genuinely frustrated even if he's probably playing that up.
I am genuinely upset this doesn't have more likes. The sheer imagery of this made me ugly laugh for two minutes.

Welcome to arin gets slaughtered, the series
I love how arin constantly expects Dan to go for these risky plays and baits, and he just ABSOLUTELY never does.
It really shows the kind of players each of them are. Arin is absolutely a risk-it-on-the-biscuit kinda player, where Dan prefers to play everything extremely safe. Arin is willing to throw everything away on a gamble that might improve his odds, while Dan refuses to risk ANYTHING that doesn't guarantee he'll make back at least what he put into it. That's why, I think, Arin's much better at Monopoly than Dan, and Dan's much better at Chess. Those games reward those kinds of play-styles.
Not always in Monopoly's case, but Monopoly is the kinda game where you can't get anywhere if you aren't willing to take a little bit of risk, and Dan doesn't risk.
@@SolstaceWinters is he better at monopoly though? Last time I checked, Dan’s got more wins in their one-on-one matches than Arin?
@@chanticleerthetale-teller8385 I'm not sure. I'd have to sit through all their games again to find out. I know they usually both get smoked by the NPCs, and I know Arin has a tendency to make seemingly intentionally bad decisions and investments to "make the game more interesting". Whether or not they are actually intentional is anyone's guess, but the core of what I was driving at is that the games reflect those two quite well, and favors those playstyles. Chess favors a calm, level-headed, riskless playstyle like Dan clearly prefers, while Monopoly leans more toward being willing to risk more to win big.
I don't know off the top of my head how many games the Grumps have played as 1v1's, but I know they generally play with NPCs, and I can't recall that many 1v1 games, so the sample size can't be very big. We'd have a clearer idea of who was better if they did, say, 50 1v1 games, or 100. Bigger sample size would equate to a more accurate calculation, because math is fun like that. And again, there's whether or not Arin's intentional willingness to make bad plays for the sake of the show is actually a thing to consider.
Of course, Monopoly is NOT a game that is best played with TWO people. You really do need more than two to get anything done because once all the properties are bought up, the only other player in the game has no incentive to trade with you at all because that can risk you winning (and as I mentioned in my first post, Dan seems to HATE risk and will actively avoid it wherever possible). You really need at least three players so you have someone you can potentially play off of when the other person is uncooperative. And I'm sure tons more factors I'm too dumb to consider at the moment.
But if I myself were a betting man, I'd wager Arin, if he were to put his mind to it, he'd probably best Dan time and again. I genuinely think he throws away games of Monopoly with bad plays for the sake of "making the game interesting" as he puts it. And that's usually his undoing, because Dan is unflinching and unwavering in his resolve to NEVER trade unless he is getting better than he gives. He's the kinda player who won't give you a dollar if you ask to trade him four quarters, he'll insist on at least an additional penny for the effort you put him through.
But as we've seen, where NPCs are involved, they BOTH get blasted time and again, so ultimately, I think "good at the game" is a relative term.
@@SolstaceWinters man I respect Danny so much but if he wanted $1.01 in change for a dollar I’d be like. Angry 😂
@@SolstaceWinters ...But Dan won way more monopoly games than Arin, no? As of july 2022, Dan had won 7 and Arin only 2. As for chess: anyone with even a modicum of experience can see that Arin's "traps"- if you can call them that- were obvious to the point of being farcical. Dan not falling for them is not him being "extremely safe" but simply reflects the fact that he's not a complete beginner at the game. What Arin was doing is commonly called "hope chess" and you see it all the time in beginners' games. We've all done it at some point or another in our chess career, so I certainly won't fault Arin for that.
The way Danny is calm, and even giving Arin advice, is so sweet, then you hear Arin screaming at the top of his house-bound lungs about shits and fucks and bitches and asses

I dont know anything about chess and my learning disability makes visualizing the moves near impossible. Is Dan actually pretty good? I could never contextualize whether he was a passable player or actually skilled because I have no idea what I'm looking at.
@@LostApotheosis Dan is of a fairly average skill level. He’s not bad, but definitely not a professional (understandably). Arin’s problem, as pointed out by Dan, was that he kept panicking and never thought out half of his moves, constantly going “let’s see what happens”. Danny kept winning because he decided to look at what could potentially happen with each move, while Arin usually just moved pieces around the board while panicking.
