EZA has been killing it with the reviews lately. The reviews have always been great (by far my favorite among traditional reviews from major outlets) but you guys have been a lot better about being timely which will probably go a long way in getting you new viewers. Great job guys!
Or maybe they look at how informative the review is, how the writer defended his arguments, how clear and consistent the scoring system is and a whole bunch of other things that people who aren't fanboys if need of reassurance could be interested in. I do agree that there are a lot of people unfortunately just going to reviews solely for validation of their views.
It's weird, I haven't loved a game as much as this since like MGS 3... And just this year I've played masterpieces such as Persona 5, Zelda, Yakuza 0 and Prey. Just started a Classic-difficulty -run and LOVE the tension this game creates. Some of the best sound desing too. 2017 is one of the greats, is what I'm trying to say. Edit: Classic-difficulty: DONE! What an intense ride that was!
This has definately been a very good year. My personal highlights are Persona 5, Breath of the Wild, Nioh and Resident Evil 7 (honorary mention to the Ringed City DLC). Hopefully this and Mario Odyssey will make the list too.
Right? I totally agree. Evil Within 2 just FEELS right. I boot it up and can't stop playing it. It's everything I love about the Resident Evil series mixed with everything I love about Silent Hill. Honestly feels like a miracle to get a game like in 2017.
Sihtinen please add NieR Automata to that list. It tells one of the best stories in gaming. Whereas Persona 5 is a character driven story. NieR is an overarching story. Its great. Its also the most unique game that's come out in many years.
This game is a modern survival horror masterpiece. And so far, I'm like a little over four hours in and only on Chapter 3 still. I am literally doing every little side thing in the town of Union. The visuals, the setting, the strange sequences, the horror parts, the protagonist and story, so far...I'm REALLY enjoying this game. A polished game.
Wizards & Warriors im 16-17 hours in and at chapter 13-14. im enjoying it alot to. if the dlc is good and they fix a few lil things with some updates i think it could be a goty for me. cod ww2 may beat it tho just cuz ive been wantin a ww2 fps for slong time with good graphics and the zombies look amazin. still like how this game is somethin new tho
nick albano absolutely spongy controls, picking up items is delayed and buggy, climbing ladders while rotating the camera can result in you ending up mid air falling down, the graphics are almost last gen... and basically everything is worse and less fleshed out than the first game, some unique elements of the first game are gone too, like traps and the matches to burn enemies which was a very unique mechanic with tons of strategic potential... it's a 7 at best
I would honestly be inclined to agree, but I see a lot of people saying it's a disappointing title. I played through the entire game on Nightmare, and it was a Survival Horror through and through. I was constantly and genuinely low on ammunition through all chapters. The Evil Within 1 felt like they threw ammo in your face with how monsters could drop entire magazines at random. It's much better paced now since The Lost only drops reagents for making ammunition.
it's kind of creepy that so many people not only noticed some minuscule change in jones' voice but wrote a comment demanding the cause of the change... like... woah there, give the man some space rofl
When I bought this game, I didn't expect much but after completing the story 30hrs later it's up there as a potential game of the year for me. People PLEASE!!!!! Get this game. PS - with all the microtranstactions, lootboxes and paid DLC sprawled out in seemingly every game of late, It's really refreshing to have a game thats single player and give you so much after completing the game. Seriously.. you get tonnes of stuff you'd expect from dlc. AWESOME!!!!! oh and this game is scary as fuck.
Guys, I really love your reviews, how much info youre reveiling in them, how detailed and well produced they are. They´ve been so reliable ever since. Would love to see more of them. Thanks a lot for doing them!
I'm just in love with this game at the moment. It's such a slick, well-directed package. And the monster designs.....oh man. I'm only at Chapter 4, but I'm just taking my time, and enjoying the craziness of it all. A worthy sequel in my opinion.
I had this feeling before but after seeing these comments I'm sure of it. If a game like Silent Hill 2 came out today it would be terribly received by audiences, but not critics. Sort of like the pretty mixed reactions to Hellblade, what I would consider a fantastic game. No one talks about what games do great, only their flaws, and everyone believes the things they personally like or dislike are tells of the games objective quality. Silent Hill 2 is seen as a masterpiece, but if it came out today I would probably see people in the comments to the EZA review saying, "This game's controls suck, the combat is terrible, the open world is empty, the characters are bland, and the story was ambiguous just to be hipster and artsy." And, yes, Silent Hill 2 does a few things wrong, but it is considered a masterpiece because of what it does right. I feel like I need to remind everyone that, in terms of video games, subjectivity is your personal feelings towards a game and objectivity is an unbiased view of the game. It doesn't matter if I don't like the combat of Silent Hill 2, it's supposed to be difficult and unpleasant because James Sunderland doesn't know how to fight, making every combat encounter extremely tense and high risk. That is objectively good game design. I just don't think anybody understands that now. Maybe I accidentally put on my nostalgia glasses this morning, but it seems to me that nowadays if a game isn't streamlined and molded to fit the maximum audience and please everyone then it's hated.
Steel Gray Gamers these day are toxic to the bone. If it's not a triple A 10/10 game its automatically label as trash. Hell that's not even good enough anymore with stupid decisions we've seen with gamers on BOTW showing proof on why this community has become pure cancer. Most of them are hypocritical, dick heads complain for something new and when that new thing comes they complain its not like the original. I don't take these freaks seriously and frankly should you.
Steel Gray: My opinion is quite the opposite of yours, because I believe that this game is simply not good because of its AAA feel. Also, no matter how you try to explain your feelings for a game there is always going to be a bias there, you even kinda stated it in your last couple sentences. When you create a sequel to a game that was a linear (with some open areas), had survival horror elements, and was a spiritual successor of RE4, then take away pretty much all of those things (the horror part is subjective but I didn't find it scary at all) you can't be surprised that people are upset at this game. Like most people I knew as soon as I heard Mikami was no longer the lead director, the game was not going to have to same feel to it. I'm just disappointed that this games aesthetic and art design is nowhere near as interesting as the first :( As, a side note I really don't see the SH2 comparisons at all. Just because this game has you exploring and small town in a horror setting doesn't mean its anything like SH2. In SH2 the setting was eerie, the maps of the areas you explored had to be found (and there weren't waypoint markers for weapons all over the map), the characters were actually interesting because of how strange everyone acted, the enemies were creepy and had a purpose (not just bland zombies), and lastly the plot of SH2 was way more psychological and meaningful then just "I need to find my daughter". I loved TEW1 but this sequel (if you can even call it that) has no identity due to it trying to incorporate so many AAA ideas. Its understandable to want to make a more accessible game but this is not the way to do it (imo).
Christopher Sanders I didn't make any comparisons between Silent Hill and The Evil Within 2. I only wanted to point out how often people think their subjective opinions about a game's objective quality is unquestionable. Like this person Kulsky in the comments saying, "So many cringe cutscenes, awful voice acting." First off I don't even think these are valid criticisms, "cringe cutscenes" can probably be said about some of the greatest games of all time. If you don't want to take Metal Gear Solid seriously then I'm sure every cutscene is just melodramatic bullshit to you. And awful voice acting can be said about literally anything, they didn't say what was awful about them. All of these subjective views are presented as objective. "The game didn't scare me so the game isn't scary." isn't a criticism. I hate to be THAT guy but everyone thinks they are a critic now. Coming from a former film journalism major, there are a thousand different things to consider when making every single criticism, and NONE of it involves my personal feelings towards the piece of media. So even after taking 2 years of film journalism classes, I'd say I don't even know a fifth about video game critique compared to these guys at Easy Allies. But I'm sure I know more than the average person, so it just really irks me when people come into these review comments and spew, "This game is garbage, EZA have it all wrong blah blah blah." People need to recognize that their personal feelings aren't absolute. Jerold of Rivia put it right, "My main problem with 2 is the enemy variety." MY main problem, so if someone has a particular interest in enemy variety then they may have the same problem. They stated their issue in a subjective way, they didn't say "there's terrible enemy variety". So, just clarifying, none of it was pointed at you. I actually agree with some of what you said, like the aesthetic being not as interesting and playing to the crowd with some unnecessary AAA aspects. Also, my bias is towards the consumers, not the game, I think people are extremely cynical towards games now.
Steel Gray: Ehh, that's was his/her opinion so it is what it is. Was it a little over-exaggerated in my opinion? Yes, but what difference does it make that those were his/her feelings about the game. Its not like this game is getting unanimously trashed on, its just not liked by hardcore fans of the first and rightly so. Also who's to decide what is and isn't valid criticism? Was his criticism that useful to others looking into the game? Not completely, but those were his/her's criticisms so at the end of the day who cares. Everyone has an opinion so, if you don't think its helpful then ignore it. Lastly, there is some truth to what he said. Compared to the first game it is a huge step down in many departments (imo), including dumbed down A.I., dialog options that look like they were thrown in last minute, a map system that shows the player where all the points of interests are (including weapons, ammo, and side-missions), a bland and overused plot device (finding one's son, daughter, mother, or father), and its biggest issue (which is subjective) is the bland art design/boring open world. If this game actually kept the survival horror feel/look of the first game I would be all over this, but its turned into another AAA, bethesda published open world (semi-open) survival game. All of the above was my criticisms of the game, so if its not to your liking or if its not "valid" enough for you then just ignore it. Its that simple.
My main problem with 2 is the enemy variety. Also, where the hell is the Model Viewer!? I want to "appreciate the art"! Anyway, great game nonetheless. I'm on my second playthrough now and loving it.
Plasma Shine NG plus for the trophies like upgrading all your skills and weapons, higher difficulty for the difficulty specific trophies and also added challenge. I plan on getting my skills and weapon upgrade trophies on my nightmare playthrough survival is just too easy Edit: gonna save the classic difficulty trophy for last like I save the akumu trophy in the last one for last
Deepak Singh well I think we should be weary of planned dlc the kind that they've cut from the main game to make money, also the kind that blindly ask you to purchase a season pass without any type of clue as to what you'll be getting and if it'll be worth it. DLC that comes later, problem due to the game selling well to TRULY expand the story and even change the gameplay entirely. Considering TEW 1 DLC completely changes the gameplay and expands on the story. The same can be said about the famed Diablo 2 expansions, starcraft, or even more recently the Frozen Wilds for Horizon Zero Dawn. I don't mind buying DLC later BUT it's gotta be good and not just a cash grab
My main problem was the environment variety. The cityportions took up a bit to much space, the later cityparts felt more like a chore rather than interesting, this was only strengthened when you had to backtrack for side quests/picking up items. Also, picking up items from broken boxes felt really unresponsive at times.
First game had WAY more ideas going on, both in the story and gameplay. Very very few bosses, and all mini bosses can be skipped if you sneak or just don't do side missions
Its definitely a good game, but i do think its noteworthy that the first game had a much stronger art direction with its grotesque imagery and constantly shifting world. 2 is alot more grounded in normal locations and even when things start getting topsy turvsy the locations arent as visually impressive or mindwarping as i would of liked. I'd say 2 is definetly a better game but i honestly prefer the first even with its problems cause i generally found its highs more interesting,.
It was between this or ac origins, i LOVED LOVED Resident evil 7(that and nier currently fighting for GOTY). Im a sucker for atmosphere, story and boss fights....basically should i get this if i fell inlove with Resident evil 7?
Shownon if you're a fan of the first one and resident Evil 4 this game will be perfect. I also got a last of us vibe. Honestly one of my favorite games to come out in years.
Ian Seurattan i was a fan of the first one and Resident evil 4, im a fan of horror in general. Hows the story? Does it have good twist and turns? Ending good?
Ian Seurattan also are the environments varied like the first? I know its a town hub but with the trippy shifts in environment im curious to know if they take you to other places other then the town.
Shownon you gotta experience it firstbhad to get the whole experience/vibe. its pretty great to me. i love the flame thrower dude design just from the design, the story behind when you meet it (him) and how he fights you in the open parts
Yeah i also adore re7 still my goty and didn't like the evil within 1.. so can you recommend the second one for me? Ps: RE4 is fantastic and i really would like to support shinji mikami.
Just played it for maybe 2 hours. I'm shocked how much better it is from the first one. Really digging it so far. Only complaint is the AI, its too easy to lose the enemies. I'm playing on medium, maybe its different on the highest difficulty, might try switching if its possible.
Evil Within 2 has nice technical performance and a cool eye for visuals, but I still love the first one way more. This is great, and great at what it does, but it seems they really tried to dial things down for people who thought the first game was "too much" in instant, relentless horror, too demanding and often too action oriented in some ways. I only felt unnerved by this one a small handful of times, for only a few moments. It also seemed to try and make sure that you always knew what was happening and why, so that there would be no confusion or anything left open to interpretation. However, I really appreciate the ideas, direction and recipe here, in the same way that I appreciate many of the twists and turns, and directions some horror movies have taken in their follow ups, which may not always be as heady and artistic as their progenitors, but are still endearing and familial. I like the dynamic combat and run around mechanics. I like the growth and resolution for the character, and I like what the tone has laid down for the future. It's created a pair of shoes that's easier to walk in, for a longer road. If they do. The nice thing is that they both exist, and I don't have to hold one up by putting one down.
The first game i've ever pre-ordered and it didn't dissapoint...EW2 is still the best survival-horror of this decade, despite REmake2 or RE7. And this is the very best review i've seen on it - thank you Huber, you did a terrific job on the writting!
May be a silly question... but do I NEED to play the first game to enjoy this one? I've got this in my GameFly queue because I like to try before I buy. But I've seen some negative reviews on the first game (mostly gameplay versus game content.) Any advice would be appreciated! Cheers, people!
Thanks for the info, Jerold. Some of the reviews I have read say the game is one cliche after another... the mechanics are kind of clunky.. Has that been your experience also?
Zackery G It has cliche moments for sure, but it doesn't affect how fun the game is. The controls are kinda clunky, but it's far from unplayable, just have to get used to it. The controls in 2 are definitely better than 1. My biggest problem tho, is the camera speed, way too slow for me, even at max. I like fast and responsive camera/aiming. It's just me tho.
Jerold of Rivia - ok cool. Thanks for the honest opinion. I've got a few other games to play before I actually get to these two games. Ill give part 1 at least an honest shot. I have a list of games a mile long! Just added TEW 1 & 2 to that list lol! Thanks again.
I hope this does well. Really enjoying it. I don't like seeing great games like this get lost in the shuffle. It really improves on the original, and I hope people give it a chance.
everything but destiny 2 its not much there once you beat the story which you can beat in a day the endgame is just about getting your power level up youll pick it up like less than once a week honestly
Evil Within series really stands alone as the continuation of the kind of great horror games we had in the mid '00s. This one is taking it to the next level. Really enjoying it.
I remember this voice. This voice reviewed the first evikl within a masterpiece of survival horror... Cant agree with you more! Such a game that was... Amazing game. Now playing the second one and I am loving it!!!
Amazing Review Huber! I just finished the game last night and I will probably start a second playthrough in the future. It's a great game. 8.5/10 for me. I hope the game does well so that we get more awesomeness
I just couldn't love this game like I did the first one. While the sequel is a large improvement in many ways it also lost what made the first game so memorable to begin with. It's great level design and clever item placement was a halmark of classic survival horror design. By adding an open world hub area and at times laughably bad A.I that's only made worse by some of the more OP stealth upgrades later on it dampens the overall tension and pacing of the game. Running away from an enemy and hiding behind a wall they clearly saw me run and hide behind then have them almost COMPLETELY forget about me and easily turn around for a stealth kill or just causually walk up and allow an easy corner kill made the tension almost non existent for me. The open world hub area kills the pacing for me while the broken A.I made me laugh out loud in disbelief many times breaking all tension and immersion for me. So yes, while I mostly agree with this review people are also missing/ forgiving some of the more glaring issues with this title. Nevertheless I'm looking forward to seeing this franchise grow and continue.
I feel like they could have added more Anima encounter or side quest that is similar to that like the one in chapter 3. And the final encounter of Anima is a bit disappointing to me. She jsut stay in the middle and u have to sneak pass her, not like the first encounter that u have to search the card in that dark room when she is wandering around the area
This game is far, far inferior to the 1st one. I think Huber got this one wrong and yes I know, different opinions. I just beat it and had to come back to this to see what EZA gave it. Still adore you guys! Love & Respect!!!
I played both games for the first time over the past few weeks and I completely agree. I came away pretty disappointed with EW2. The first game is one of the best survival horror games ever made so I suppose it was always going to be hard to live up to.
Really enjoying this one so far. I do prefer the linear nature of the original, but the open world in a horror game is growing on me. Looking forward to completing it : )
Not try to nag on Huber, love the guy, but in his reviews on anything in the survival horror or horror genre, Huber always seems extra gracious to these types of games since from his days in GT. (Note: I know these his favorite types of games.)
I'll play it and probably like it but I really don't want to craft ammo or have large open sections that just stress me out making me feel like I have to obsessively search every nook and cranny for hours in a large open area. I love that the first one was simplistic yet genius in its design, it didn't muddle itself with too much inventory and crafting management like every damn game does now, and you never stayed in one place for long. It seems no franchise can avoid the trends I hate :(
Andy Clouser I'm hardcore ocd about exploring but it isn't so bad. The "open areas" are actually rather small. They're just super condensed with stuff to do and you are constantly rewarded for searching
Lol it seems people cannot distinguish properly between "vicious" and "viscous". I remember people saying that Manus' souls from Dark Souls' DLC was vicious when it was in fact viscous. Similarly, a headshot cannot be viscous, but only vicious.
if you like hardcore survival horror yes, if RE6 and Dead Space 3 is more your cup of tea, you should get TEW2 instead. The direction they went with both games is very different, I myself think the first one is better but that's for you to decide on your own
I never played RE6 as RE5 was just action game with the RE title and to me that's NOT what RE is about. I loved DS1&2 but really didn't like DS3 ! I think I'm gonna get TEW 1 :) thanks mate
Fun combat gives entertainment. The phrase "Takes more than it gives" is most commonly used to mean something negative. Although I understand that you meant the combat was unrelenting and therefore good and fun I do think you could have worded that better :)
Stefano is an excellent new villain they added into the franchise. He was mysterious just like Ruvik was. Father Theodore is a very lame second half replacement for Stefano. His parts were easily some of the most frustrating moments in The Evil Within 2. They should of made Stefano the main villain throughout all of it not add in the cliché evil twisted priest. I was actually really sad when Sebastian shot Stefano because I liked him and he was so unique with his horror and madness. Legendary artist. I'm really hoping they make a 3rd title someday. Myra is kind of a disappointing anticlimactic final battle. It was basically shoot the weak points and she's down. While Stefano was teleporting and had awesome imagery and background surrounding them so intense. I never enjoyed Sebastian's character that much I think he's way too ruthless, unsympathetic and overconfident when he's on the hunt. Kidman is kind of boring and generic too. Where was Joseph in this? By far the best detective out of them. Shinji Mikami needs to return to the director's seat not just leave the series open to interpretation.
I was positively surprised about the open hub city in EW2, I just hope that there will be more enemy types in the game. Havent seen so many on the past 7 hours or so. Only gripe I have is that how awkward the close combat is. Shooting at face to face range is awkward and even more so is the shitty, rooting, slow, powerless knife swing that cant hit shit.
Bethesda puts out so many good games. Like, I wish Dishonored 2 and TEW 2's plots weren't about damsel'd family members, but they're such solid games and well constructed worlds that I can't complain much. Moreover, I'm glad that they're a diverse dev and don't JUST make open world games and multiplayer shooters. When the open world bubble finally passes, someone needs to know how to make traditional level-based games.
This game does a hell lot better than the first one. I quite enjoy it. My major complaint is that Sebastian doesn't control all that great. His movement feels clunky at times. There often are these odd pauses that the game just simply doesn't allow you to move him whatsoever. When right after breaking off from enemy's grab, he takes awkward amount of time to recover from his animation. And above all, they set this annoying animation for him when being discovered by enemy, he'd stop moving and look around, despite me already started running earlier, he'd still stop to play that animation. It's not a deal breaker or anything. But it annoys me more than it should. :/
"Hey guys, let's make a game with a guy that looks like Joel from the last of us wearing Nathan Drake's outfit, plays like the last of us, set in silent Hill 2s town with imagry from " the cell" and an artist boss from Bioshock!" Works for me
The opening half hours of both Evil Within games are completely unrepresentative of what the games actually are. They're barely interactive extended cutscenes that don't introduce any of the core gameplay. Definitely stick with it for a few hours, it will introduce the games mechanics one by one, and you'll start having fun.
I really want to know how this is different from the first. I know the first was praised, and as a horror fanatic I expected to enjoy it, but I found the original incredible convoluted and uninspired. Thoroughly disappointed in it, and for some reason I'm hoping this one steps it's story up, but it's hard to tell from the review.
I'm going to be cautiously optimistic and will probably try to check it out at a later date probably after a hefty discount. My backlog as is should be illegal.
This is in my opinion, worse than the first game by a long shot. I really only had one MAJOR issue (there's small ones here and there) with the first game and it was some of the instant death/1hko parts the game had. Otherwise it had some of the most fun locations, bosses and game mechanics (like avoiding, disarming or using traps, multi-killing enemies with a single match to conserve ammo). It also didn't have terrible AI and overpowered stealth mechanics. To me the second game is just riddled with things I can't stand, such as: Bad AI, stealth is overpowered, forced walking parts to tell story, way too many cutscenes and less unique action sequences, overdramatic american tv series "feels" story and voice acting, stiff characters in fallout-style chats featuring dialogue options, boss fights that are laughably easy and they're also recycled as regular enemies, crafting resources in the middle of fights removing all tension and part of the difficulty, huge parts with nothing happening/only walking/getting spooked = only tolerable once, replaying them is a pain. They removed things like abundant traps and the match system, probably the two things that made the first game not just a regular 3rd person survival shooter.
Same here, they really pulled a "Fallout 4" on this sequel, dont forget all the meaningless side quests and grinding that have no place in a survival horror, and weapons feel like crap in this game compared to the last one, especially the pistol and the crossbow arrows
Qeruberosu I do miss the match system but the traps were incredibly annoying and too any cheap deaths from bosses. Also the story was extremely pretentious in the first game. As for the second game did you play the game on easy? Because on survival the game is no joke and you barely have ammo also I never used crafting my first playthrough on normal. I also like how there’s less scripted BS in this game but environments are very bland compared to first game I do agree there and the way enemies die don’t feel as impactful like the first game.
Persona 5 was my GOTY but this might kick P5 off the throne.
I'm on chapter 11 atm. Decision will be made soon.
Sihtinen please add NieR Automata to that list. It tells one of the best stories in gaming. Whereas Persona 5 is a character driven story. NieR is an overarching story. Its great. Its also the most unique game that's come out in many years.
RandomGamerzDaily Played it, loved it and got the platinum trophy. The soundtrack too is just perfect.
I HEARD COZY IN THERE, LOL.

I don't get why ign only gave it an 8.0 it plays like a 9.0.
nick albano absolutely spongy controls, picking up items is delayed and buggy, climbing ladders while rotating the camera can result in you ending up mid air falling down, the graphics are almost last gen... and basically everything is worse and less fleshed out than the first game, some unique elements of the first game are gone too, like traps and the matches to burn enemies which was a very unique mechanic with tons of strategic potential...
it's a 7 at best
I would honestly be inclined to agree, but I see a lot of people saying it's a disappointing title. I played through the entire game on Nightmare, and it was a Survival Horror through and through. I was constantly and genuinely low on ammunition through all chapters. The Evil Within 1 felt like they threw ammo in your face with how monsters could drop entire magazines at random. It's much better paced now since The Lost only drops reagents for making ammunition.
Hopefully they'll fix that in a upgrade or something
HUBER AT HIS BEST!
Mike is this Huber's voice? I thought it's Brandon.
Huber wrote the review. Brandon reads it.
it's kind of creepy that so many people not only noticed some minuscule change in jones' voice but wrote a comment demanding the cause of the change... like... woah there, give the man some space rofl
Ciel Agreed- I didn't notice any change at all.
AWESOME!!!!! oh and this game is scary as fuck.
nice just got this
Just finished it
I agree with you
Only review I need to see..8 hours in and loving every second..Thnx for another amazing review
Guys, I really love your reviews, how much info youre reveiling in them, how detailed and well produced they are. They´ve been so reliable ever since. Would love to see more of them.
Thanks a lot for doing them!
PS: Can you pls make an Easy Allies Game Review Playlist?
Wicked - It did´t show up straight away thats why i was missing it - thanks a lot!
"...as they deliver an appropriately viscous explosion of brain matter." Well done Huber.
I still love the evil within review you guys did for gametrailers. Great times:)
I'm just disappointed that this games aesthetic and art design is nowhere near as interesting as the first :(
As, a side note I really don't see the SH2 comparisons at all.
Steel Gray Its a trend to be as cynical as possible with giving any proper reasoning behind. Criticism for criticism sake.
Compared to RE 7 I think we should be grateful for it not being worse 😅
New Game plus or higer difficulty?
Plasma Shine NG plus for the trophies like upgrading all your skills and weapons, higher difficulty for the difficulty specific trophies and also added challenge. I plan on getting my skills and weapon upgrade trophies on my nightmare playthrough survival is just too easy
Edit: gonna save the classic difficulty trophy for last like I save the akumu trophy in the last one for last
Deepak Singh well I think we should be weary of planned dlc the kind that they've cut from the main game to make money, also the kind that blindly ask you to purchase a season pass without any type of clue as to what you'll be getting and if it'll be worth it.
Damn, I only had "COZY" and "MEANINGFUL ENCOUNTERS" in my Huber Review Bingo. Did anyone get "SHOTGUN"?
Its definitely a good game, but i do think its noteworthy that the first game had a much stronger art direction with its grotesque imagery and constantly shifting world. 2 is alot more grounded in normal locations and even when things start getting topsy turvsy the locations arent as visually impressive or mindwarping as i would of liked. I'd say 2 is definetly a better game but i honestly prefer the first even with its problems cause i generally found its highs more interesting,.
by far the most UNDERRATED game this year (Metacritic score). Great review Easy Allies.
Is that Claire De Lune version original to this game? I’ve never heard it with the violin
I agree with you, I really enjoy the first 1more than this
Huber nailed it. incredible game!
brandon, buddy, are you sure you're getting enough sleep?
Boomer This AND South Park. Somethings up
might just be some audio change with the recording
" Just recording in a different environment. He's out of town for a few days. -Bloodworth "
Blood says he recorded these in a hotel room.
I'm guessing he's in a hotel room AND he's got a cold...
The first game i've ever pre-ordered and it didn't dissapoint...EW2 is still the best survival-horror of this decade, despite REmake2 or RE7. And this is the very best review i've seen on it - thank you Huber, you did a terrific job on the writting!
So is this series the horror version of AC and the Animus?
May be a silly question... but do I NEED to play the first game to enjoy this one? I've got this in my GameFly queue because I like to try before I buy. But I've seen some negative reviews on the first game (mostly gameplay versus game content.) Any advice would be appreciated! Cheers, people!
Zackery G You don't have to, but I highly recommend you to play 1 (plus the DLCs), it's a great game. And will make you appreciate 2 more.
Im so glad yo guys are back.
I hope this does well. Really enjoying it. I don't like seeing great games like this get lost in the shuffle. It really improves on the original, and I hope people give it a chance.
Only problem is they recyle enemies and locations they could have made atleast one more map instead of using the same one towards the end of the game
Oh shit this game is out already? October is a pretty good month, Mario oddysey, Wolfenstein 2, evil within 2, cuphead.
Came out last friday, 13th of October.
Assassin's Creed Origin, Destiny 2 on PC, Shadow of War....yep stellar month for gamers.
'Pretty good.'
everything but destiny 2 its not much there once you beat the story which you can beat in a day the endgame is just about getting your power level up youll pick it up like less than once a week honestly
I'm still confused. Is this game running in a mod id5 again or id6 like Doom and New Colossus?
A Digital Foundry video suggests that it's a modified idTech 6. I think idTech 5 is pretty much dead now thankfully.
great review! love hearing this game get the praise it deserves! absolutely love it!
Finally, someone who shows this game the respect it deserves! A very true return the the golden age of gaming
I love the clever editing. Man this game looks great.
PLAYING THIS NOW! THANKS FOR THE REVIEW!
the sandbox sections put me off its not thrown in because thats whats popular
Clair de lune is the perfect backing track to the latter third of the review.
Great review, Huber. So glad the game is good, can't wait to hear him talk about it on a podcast.
We need a Sequel
Jones, you're sounding silky smooth and relaxed here... been actually getting some sleep!?
Really enjoying this one so far. I do prefer the linear nature of the original, but the open world in a horror game is growing on me. Looking forward to completing it : )
amazing review. cant wait to pick the game myself and play all night
"A soldier would have taken the safety off" ! S..Snake ?
Not try to nag on Huber, love the guy, but in his reviews on anything in the survival horror or horror genre, Huber always seems extra gracious to these types of games since from his days in GT. (Note: I know these his favorite types of games.)
This game had so many problems and much worse than the first game in almost every way. I still hate it so much.
My hype man Huber doods. Great review
People should understand that TEW was a blueprint for whats to come and this sequal in my opinion perfected what the firat needed
Lol it seems people cannot distinguish properly between "vicious" and "viscous". I remember people saying that Manus' souls from Dark Souls' DLC was vicious when it was in fact viscous. Similarly, a headshot cannot be viscous, but only vicious.
Let me guess - Huber wants to give it a 5. Realises he probably shouldn't and it joins the rest of the 4.5's :)
Is the first game worth playing ?
if you like hardcore survival horror yes, if RE6 and Dead Space 3 is more your cup of tea, you should get TEW2 instead. The direction they went with both games is very different, I myself think the first one is better but that's for you to decide on your own
I never played RE6 as RE5 was just action game with the RE title and to me that's NOT what RE is about.
I loved DS1&2 but really didn't like DS3 !
I think I'm gonna get TEW 1 :)
thanks mate
Jerith 616 the first one has way more combat then the 2nd though?
I'll never play it myself, but I'm happy for Huber.
Cool knife kills and a great shotgun easy 10/10
This game looks freaking amazing!!! I loved the first one and can't wait to play this...
Yo is this the gametrailers guy? ps this gMe kicks ass
Great review!!
Great review totally agree with score!
There's some serious controller aiming in this video
it's actually really hard to aim in this game, regardless of the input device.
I loved the game, but I played it on survivor and found it a tad too easy, but I think if I up the difficulty it should be right up my alley!
yup thats legit issue but not on PC
Gizelbelcoot
I'm playing on PC, lol
best reviews on net
I'm sad Anson Mount doesn't play the lead character this time.
For me 5/5
Kefka Palazzo But is it as good as final fantasy 6?
maybe he was sick, but Brandon's soft, low tone voice fitted very well with this particular review
hope he is fine and healthy tho, haha
"Hey guys, let's make a game with a guy that looks like Joel from the last of us wearing Nathan Drake's outfit, plays like the last of us, set in silent Hill 2s town with imagry from " the cell" and an artist boss from Bioshock!" Works for me
Last of us was inspired from Re4, google it
Evil Within doesn't shy away from taking influence from great games and ultimately does a spectacular job. There's nothing quite like it.
The shotgun looks great.
I would have preferred if they made Juli Kidman the protagonist in this one.
Nice review,
Same score as ZELDA BOTW, this must be good.
Im late to the party and just started part 1..really enjoying it..bit like last of us
Absolutely loving the game so far
Two reviews today. i feel spoiled!
It was a masterpiece.
This video opens with the part of the game that scared me most!
Huber is the best reviewer
Great review! Keep up the good work.
I was turned off by the opening 30 minutes and havne't returned yet. But if Huber says it's good then i shall push ahead.
The opening half hours of both Evil Within games are completely unrepresentative of what the games actually are. They're barely interactive extended cutscenes that don't introduce any of the core gameplay. Definitely stick with it for a few hours, it will introduce the games mechanics one by one, and you'll start having fun.
That was fast, Huber! Lol! Couldn't put the game down eh
Hedgeyy He's probably had it for a week or two.
The Evil Within 2 = The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Easy Allies - 2017
Great game and finally something that can rival even resident evil
I love evil within 2 it’s still a great horror game
and finally this IP belong to microsoft
I really want to know how this is different from the first. I know the first was praised, and as a horror fanatic I expected to enjoy it, but I found the original incredible convoluted and uninspired. Thoroughly disappointed in it, and for some reason I'm hoping this one steps it's story up, but it's hard to tell from the review.
This one has much more focus on storytelling and character. Silent Hill 2 vibes...
I'm going to be cautiously optimistic and will probably try to check it out at a later date probably after a hefty discount. My backlog as is should be illegal.
Am I the only one who thinks that it could be so much better, I like it, but it had no replay value, just a lot of walking around
"Cozy"!!!!
It sounds like they replaced every voice actor.
Valsh the absolutely did, and I’m curious to know if that was due to a creative decision or a financial one.
Maybe related to the recently resolved SAG AFTRA voice actors strike but I couldn't find any information to support that guess
Look like Joel, dressed as Nathan.
Underrated
Hopefully this is just the dark souls 2 of the evil within series and shinji comes back for 3.
@@IskandarTheWack or mostly never lmfao
I like it more that the first game, but it's a little bit on the easier side.
