"Oblivion isn't that old" it's 18 years old this year... i just can't fathom that. I still remember when it came out like it was a few years ago. I feel old.
It's 12 years between Arena and Oblivion It's 18 years between Oblivion and now And between me playing Daggerfall and thinking "wow, some day they create game like this but better" and they still not created better game, it's about 22 years.
Todd has his name in the credits as additional designer, its even in the green booklet that comes with daggerfall. He joined after Arena. hes always there
I bought my first computer in 1994 and this was one of the earliest games I played on it. I fell in love with the Elder Scrolls then, and I still love the games now. It's been at least 20 years though since I last played Arena.
Arena is so cozy and pretty chill by classic DOS RPG standards, I really don't know why people act like its just worse Daggerfall. But if you want an old DOS game to play, there's always Princess Maker 2. A sweet, fluffy little game about being dad to a potential princess in a fantasy world, with Monster Rancher gameplay! ...Made by the Neon Genesis Evangeleon people
Christ... how are you able to play those artifacts for the first time with the straight face? I'm a god damned 40yo grump who remembers dinosaurs roaming the earth while I was getting my first gaming experience on my C64 and yet I'm unable to force myself into playing those unintuitive, cumbersome DOS era artifacts... Yet here you are, not even in your 30s, conquering those like it's just another Monday. Kudos!
I feel the same way lol, I really want to experience older classic games but when I play them I just can't bring myself to do it.. its so clunky and ugly
@@Skiivin Those were and still are easy both in terms of mechanics and UI. They are also, arguably, easier on the eyes (DN being released later offered higher resolution). I was thinking among the lines of more cumbersome genres (again, UI and mechanics wise) like RPGs, strategies, simulators, or textual input adventure games. Titles with a much higher bar of entry. I guess I should have mentioned, that my early gaming was driven and shaped by the Commodore Amiga (which at the time looked and sounded better than early PC). I was quite late to PC gaming, when I finally got my own computer in 1997 jumping straight to giants like Fallout 1, Baldur's Gate, Diablo 1 and the likes.
Firstly, it might be wise to re-review Daggerfall STOCK when you’re done. Partially because your original review was of the Unity version so not a fully accurate comparison. And partially because you’ve grown and improved so much. Secondly… why not just make an entire series of ‘reviewing series where the first two games are completely ignored.” Let’s see, there’s Fallout 1 and 2, Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Duke Nukem 1 and 2, GTA 1 and 2, Castle Wolfenstein and its sequel, heck, COD went for the hat trick and people ignore the first 3.
I've tried to play Arena back in the day on 14 inch CRT display. It was just as bad as on modern screen actually. Gadly I've got Daggerfall on a same disc (don't ask).
Oh, wow, a twenty minute ES video in this day and age? Come back when you have 10 hours of content. Also, you're a coward for starting at the start and not at Redguard. /sarcasm
Ngl, I tried to play morrowind but then the graphics killed it every single time. If the graphics were better, I’d play every single game cause they all look really cool.
Arena is my favorite Elderscrolls game.
I like this hot take. Arena is underrated.

Oo can't wait for the spinoff games being covered by you! This was great lol
I love all the flavor text in Arena

The snow woof at the end was terrifying man! great video, I also started with oblivion gave it my life and soul. Enjoyed every second.
Babe, wake up!
Babe, wake up!
Why are you shaking?
Are you okay? Wake up!
Stand up. There you go.
You were dreaming.
What's your name?
Aye, I'm awake
I'm shocked at how good and cool Arena looks
3:32 OpenTESArena isn’t even close to completion to the level of Daggerfall Unity or OpenMW yet, so unfortunately, DOSBox is here to stay for a while
You're exactly right. I can't even get OpenTESArena to run...

Arena is bad but honestly Daggerfall is my favorite TES game

Idk man, im in my late 20s and recently went on a retro gaming kick and had a lot of fun with those old clunkers, including Arena.
Not even DOOM or Duke Nukem?!

Fang lair is also in ESO as a group dungeon.
i see a follow chocolate milk enjoyer
I'm so glad Steam runs these games through DOSBox for you. I really hate having to set that up.
oh yeah, that arrow key movement

A bit newer, but GTA 1 and 2
Wow. My first was Daggerfall at release, buggy as hell, but loved it.
Is there anything like an Arena Unity?

Another banger 😎
The good old time, where left and right handed people were treated equally :)

If you want some FPS games to play, you could play Bethesda's Terminator games.

OpenMW and either Morrowind Enhanced Textures or Intelligent Textures should help a bit. Won't make the game look like it came out in 2024, of course.
@ I’ll take a look at it. Thank you!
