Here in the USA tips are unfortunately a huge part of a servers income. The amount/percentage is based on the service etc…. But It’s expected because restaurants/bars can legally get away with paying an outrageously low wage (as low as $4 per hour of work- which is a FRACTION of “minimum wage”) because they expect the servers to make enough to survive via tips. It’s One industry that is exempt from the minimum wage law. So if you don’t tip in usa, your server leaves at the end of the day with next to nothing- and will be unable to pay bills, rent or even buy food. It’s disgusting but that’s the way it works here. Wish we could change it… so servers made a reasonable living wage and didn’t need tips. But until that day comes, tipping is necessary. If you visit America, please tip- Even if it’s only a little…many servers are struggling to get by, and need it to survive.
@@Zja100it’s rude because that’s the culture here- tipping is a necessary evil- because servers only make $4-5 an hour… the rest of their wage is from tips (stupid laws I know- awful that companies put the responsibility on the customer instead of just paying their staff a decent wage). Tipping is different in Europe because most countries there actually pay servers/workers a decent wage- much closer to livable than what servers get here. Kylie can keep her “personality” and posts. Don’t want them or need them. The entitlement is tacky. We ought to give attention to those that are deserving- kind and caring:
Geee I don’t even get why everyone is pissed . Employers should pay their employees enough money so they rely on tips. Why is the consuming paying the salary. A tip to show some one they had good service or exceeded expectations. Tips ARENT to pay the staff. Yeah she’s rich but like she doesn’t have to tip. I don’t tip every time because I’m expected to, I only tip when I feel the waiter or waitress has given amazing service and I feel they deserve a little extra for , a tip….
@@rinim00n51 yeah I know! And subway Canada put their tip option before you pay. There’s one lady I tip because she knows my order and is very very kind to everyone but I’d rather give her cash. Tipping shouldn’t even be a thing. I don’t need to pay you for you to do your job that you’re getting paid to do on top of the pay for whatever thing I’m getting. As a society we just need to pay our workers enough where tips are not relied on. Also, just because you’re rich does not mean you should have to tip people big bucks. It’s not your job to give away your wealth.
Unpopular opinion: no one should feel entitled to tip. Tipping is a great way to show appreciation for someone going above and beyond in customer service however, it shouldn’t just be expected when the service is only satisfactory. I’ve worked many years in food service and retail and it still bugs me when people feel entitled to a tip no matter what. Just my opinion 🤷🏻♀️
“it shouldn’t just be expected when the service is only satisfactory” MA’AM if the service is satisfactory, they’ve done their job. just bc they didn’t (or couldn’t bc they’re busy) go out of their way to completely wow you with service, doesn’t mean you should punish them. if the server is literally rude or just stands around not looking at you, that doesn’t warrant an 18% tip. i get that there are some entitled servers who do that and expect 20%. but the way you described “only satisfactory” does not apply to that group. as long as the server is courteous and gets me my food, they’re getting 20% bc that is “only satisfactory.” i doubt you’ve worked as a server for long bc longtime servers always tip (except if their server were crazy rude) since they know that everybody has bad days sometimes. or you just lack compassion.
_I wonder why many wealthy ppl don’t tip? If I were that rich I’d be dropping 100’s. I always try to go in on the tip! Doesn’t matter where I’m eating, where I’m picking up from, or who is dropping off to me._
We need to talk about the awkwardness of the tipping on square space to retail cashiers?? I worked as a server for 12 years 2 years ago i started working as a manager for a small pizza shop that uses square space when I work at the register the moment it comes to tipping i can see people panicking some make pretend they didn’t see the tip option…I just tell them idc if you tip just press skip so the payment can go through and keep the line pushing…when I say that the sigh of relief on their faces it’s funny. I said if you don’t want to tip Idc but press skip so the transaction can clear and another customer won’t think it’s their purchase if we have a rush..they all say it’s nice to have a cashier say that I feel like an asshole if I don’t tip but they don’t do shir but process the payment ironically they became regular customers and tip often…tipping culture here is so different then Europe. I lived in Italy for 2 years the first few months I tipped in cash and a server told Me it was insulting..we laughed it off..stuff like this should be talked about maybe or can change things
Crazy to me Americans think tipping is a necessity and not tipping is seen as disgusting and rude lol. It’s an act of generosity and not an obligation. It’s not a customers obligation to pay extra money to waitresses bc they rely on them, there’s nothing wrong with simply paying what you owe. Weird.
Not in America. Here they tax you on the amount amount of food you ring up. So if 1 server rings up $100 of food, 8% of that will be taken from her check. So $8 taxed. If the person eating that food doesn't tip at least 9% the server pays OUT OF POCKET for that person's food. You MUST tip servers in America.

Waiters/Waitress are paid well below minimum wage base pay and the tips are supposed to cover the rest. If they don't even make that much, the restaurant owner has to make sure it is at least the minimum wage and f the state. (Different states have different minimum wages.)
In all seriousness what’s wrong with not tipping ? You don’t owe them money just because they did their job 🤷🏻♀️. (I know it sounds rude but genuinely curious why is tipping a thing ?)
In America it's a serious thing because they allow the service industry not to pay their staff a livable wage. If staff don't get tips, they can't survive. I don't like the tipping culture in the US, and I don't see why the customer should subsidize the restaurant owner, but Americans seem to accept it.
Employers don't pay their workers a livable wage in America, I don't understand why people direct their hatred towards people that don't tip, I mean I get it ig "they're millionaires and they still don't tip" but the fact that everyone feels obligated to tip is so bizarre, people should direct it to employers that don't pay well, it shouldn't be a customers job to pay for workers

Ok ignoring the whole her not tipping and being so rich , the whole tipping culture is bizzare to me, instead of bashing people for not tipping how about the restaurants that don't pay their workers enough to make a living? Why does it become the customers job to tip?
So sad how she said its common for hollywood celebs not to tip. I 100% believe it too. As a pizza delivery girl back in the day, every mansion i delivered to would either send their kids to get out of tipping, or tip like $1. The best tippers are usually "lower class" but its hit or miss, while middle class is more consistent with the $3-$5.

not a fan of karjenners and i could not care less about them, but could someone please explain to me the american system of tipping?? Is it common to shame people for not paying EXTRA money? Very convenient for capitalists huh, cause instead of paying your workers decent salary you can rely on clients paying them? I live in a country where people tip if they feel like it - like if the service was really good and they enjoyed everything. But it's not like obligatory and no one shames you for not tipping. And of course no tipping at all if the service was poor.
It’s cause waiters aren’t paid a lot. They probably get paid 10 dollars per hour or less in California. Living here is really expensive so tipping helps workers in terms of getting decent to good pay.
Tipping was created for the purpose of giving people money for good service. Then a lot of American businesses decided that meant if people got tipped, they could pay their workers less (sometimes below minimum wage). It's a really lame loophole. It definitely depends on the business but it's caused a culture in recent years here in America that if you don't tip, you don't appreciate your service at all. I honestly will tip more if I feel like they did a fantastic job but that's the tipping culture around here, unfortunately.
Some restaurants pay their waiters like $2 an hour, expecting the rest of the money to be made in tips. A lot of servers are paid below minimum wage, so it’s not extra money. It should just be included in the price, so the servers are actually paid fairly. Customers don’t like it either, it’s mainly just the restaurant owners that like tipping culture.

Would you wait tables for $4 (€3.70) an hour?
@@ralexandra1058 its not a random customers responsibility to pay your bills, its sad to hear that employers exploit their workers but there’s no reason to dump that onto customers. Just because thats apart of american culture doesn’t mean its okay, it sounds toxic to me. The fact that its not a norm in any other country shows that its not normal to think someone’s disgusting or obliged to tip, like I’ve been seeing in these comments. Maybe then we should pay tips for all services then by american logic if they don’t get payed enough? Also it’s not entirely true that people in Europe get payed more than $4 an hour, I’ve lived in the uk and other European countries and my friends who worked as waitresses got payed about 4.50 at times, but wouldn’t blame people for not tipping.
How is she not embarrassed? Any time I go out with my friends broke or not I always make sure I have separate money to tip the server and billionaires can’t even spare a penny 🤦🏽♀️ embarrassing

Also, just because you’re rich does not mean you should have to tip people big bucks. It’s not your job to give away your wealth.
When isn’t she lying?😂
I tip if the waiter or waitress provides good or half decent service. If they provide bad service I don’t bother tipping.

Employers need to reevaluate how much they pay their employees if the work load is too much
Agree for the common population
But for millionaires come on
“it shouldn’t just be expected when the service is only satisfactory” MA’AM if the service is satisfactory, they’ve done their job. just bc they didn’t (or couldn’t bc they’re busy) go out of their way to completely wow you with service, doesn’t mean you should punish them. if the server is literally rude or just stands around not looking at you, that doesn’t warrant an 18% tip. i get that there are some entitled servers who do that and expect 20%. but the way you described “only satisfactory” does not apply to that group. as long as the server is courteous and gets me my food, they’re getting 20% bc that is “only satisfactory.” i doubt you’ve worked as a server for long bc longtime servers always tip (except if their server were crazy rude) since they know that everybody has bad days sometimes. or you just lack compassion.
Tipping is optional not mandatory
Off topic, but the TikToker at 1:55 gives off Jeffree Star vibes with their manners 🫣
I said if you don’t want to tip
Idc but press skip so the transaction can clear and another customer won’t think it’s their purchase if we have a rush..they all say it’s nice to have a cashier say that I feel like an asshole if I don’t tip but they don’t do shir but process the payment ironically they became regular customers and tip often…tipping culture here is so different then Europe. I lived in Italy for 2 years the first few months I tipped in cash and a server told
Me it was insulting..we laughed it off..stuff like this should be talked about maybe or can change things
Right?? Where I’m from, you tip if the service was really nice. If it was average you don’t and nobody will bat an eye.
@@aneleh6well good for you. But that’s not how it works in USA and yes we can go to our employers or whatever to ask them change the wages for servers but change isn’t gonna happen. Waiters/Waitress are paid well below minimum wage base pay and the tips are supposed to cover the rest. If they don't even make that much, the restaurant owner has to make sure it is at least the minimum wage and f the state. (Different states have different minimum wages.)

In America it's a serious thing because they allow the service industry not to pay their staff a livable wage. If staff don't get tips, they can't survive.
I don't like the tipping culture in the US, and I don't see why the customer should subsidize the restaurant owner, but Americans seem to accept it.
Employers don't pay their workers a livable wage in America, I don't understand why people direct their hatred towards people that don't tip, I mean I get it ig "they're millionaires and they still don't tip" but the fact that everyone feels obligated to tip is so bizarre, people should direct it to employers that don't pay well, it shouldn't be a customers job to pay for workers

not a fan of karjenners and i could not care less about them, but could someone please explain to me the american system of tipping??
I will never understand why celebrities get special treatment and not normal people. Celebrities have tons of money and if they eat or shop at their food or retails places it’s because they want it!
