    It's really nice to see a more... realistic rig. A lot of these types of videos feature huge boards covered with strymons and such. While that's all well and good for those who have the money lying around, its nice to see a rig more like something you'd actually see in your everyday church. It's also nice to see that you can get a really good tone out of a simple set up with some good but not overpriced gear.

    • @theworshipbunker
      @theworshipbunker 6 років тому +1

      So much this comment. I'm over strymon and JHS. I know they make good stuff, but dang, my church can't pay me enough to justify any of that. My board is very similar to this one. My overdrives are different and I'm missing the Echo Park, but I think I need one now to pair with my DD-20.

      After playing 13 years in churches (and double that in clubs), I'm still convinced that modeling amps (or basic amp setups) and practice (ie technique) are the way to go. A lot of guys (not all, but a LOT) I see flaunting their ridiculously overpriced pedalboards are far too reliant on cute noises than actual skill. Those people seem to think they can buy their talent, and it doesn't work that way. The basic I - IV - V - vi structure in nearly every song may cater to their egos ('I am a 4 chord master! Woot! Look at me go!'), but take away their capo or have them play in a progression outside of the before-mentioned staple progression variations, and they're lost. (And I won't even get into more exotic scales and modes.) Nothing wrong with having a good sound, but it never works as a substitute for talent... and people will always recognize the talent. It's sad that church music tends to be so lifeless and lacking when it seems like it would be the exact opposite. Just my opinion, but a valid one.

      You're not wrong man. I would love to, and need to, start setting more time aside to grow as a musician. I think we are cheating ourselves, our congregations, and God to not give it our best and do it with excellence.

      Joshua Muehlbauer - the beauty is we don't have to be THE best, just *our* best. Only the individual can know what that looks like, but when we do our best, it comes with rewards I believe. :)

    Thanks for the amazing video! I am about to get the Laney IRT studio amp with the IRT 2*12 cabinet. I use a 7 string guitar in my church’s worship band because I can play a lot of interesting fat chord soundings. I want to just to hook up the foot switch for my amp, a tuner pedal and a noise gate for my set up because there is a digital reverb on my amp. Do you think the set up works good? I also play in a metal band though so I need to have the same pedal board work for both. Do you think this is a good set up or I need an overdrive?

  • @mike1967sam

    What crap pedals I mean these are the worst choice of pedals anyone can buy.....Just joking, in fact I really dig all those pedals and I have a few of them, the only one I've never tried is the Line 6 and the Giga Delay all the others are really good...especially the Dyna Comp which a lot of people dislike but David Gilmour and a lot of other guitarists have used the Dyna Comp for years. Nice vid Trevor.

  • @dwainmcbain5263
    @dwainmcbain5263 4 роки тому

    Amp compression and overdrive are far better than a pedal. The only pedals I like for an ambient tone are modulation pedals, stacking delay with harmonizers and pitch shifters will get you exactly that tone.

    Why is American 'worship' music drowned in delay and 'swells' ??? Don't they listen to anything apart from U2 and Coldplay? It's weird how it's a genre and dominates the 'industry' and 'market' etc. What about Christians that like grunge and so on? This music is like country, great for country fans but useless to grunge fans. Is it because anthemic emo rock is more 'godly' and makes you more Christian because it's so bland and anodyne and therefore leaves no room for the expression of 'darker' themes (like in the Psalms - 22, 32, 116 etc?? I can't relate to most videos like this. I do like this man because he clearly hasn't spent thousands and has a fairly modest functional pedalboard - not too excessive - so I can't ask questions about why money has gone on 5 JHS overdrive pedals instead of feeding the poor (true religion/worship according to Isaiah and James etc) and another cultural (not Christian/religious thing) is why there's a focus on making feel-good for a few hours on Sunday instead of feeding the homeless because I know as a musician playing in church myself that I couldn't live with my conscience if I'd bought a JHS Morning Glory when 50 homeless friends needed a hot meal on Saturdays. I would feel really awful no matter how ambient the music was during "How Great Is Our God". I prefer to speak to those who need a physician rather than preach to the choir. Is it because Americans are so affluent they can run homeless outreach and so on plus spend thousand on overdrive pedals? What about all the poor in ghettos that desperately need to hear the love of Jesus I have heard about that dominates America, all the poorly educated folk led down a path of drugs or crime or just terrible ill-health? Doesn't the plight of a suffering world touch you more than the intro chords to "Be Still"? I am not judging, just sharing what I think, because the Bible says that God weeps for those people, and I am sure from Isaiah he'd not be happy if people were too busy adding another delay pedal instead of helping the elderly neighbour with no family. I am sure many sincere folk do, but for a nation that calls itself 'under God' there seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding between the words worship and praise. Worship is cleaning your neighbour's gutter or bathing your infirm grandmother, not singing nice songs for an hour on Sunday. Praise is good but not at the expense of practically helping the disadvantaged, oppressed and vulnerable. praying is good, and important, but so is cooking food for our homeless friends. I am truly baffled by Hillsong and Jesus Culture and all this stuff, where do you find the time to visit the AIDS/HIV ward at your local hospital and show the grace and love of God to those suffering? I say this not because I do, but because I want to do more. It's not hard to get up and play guitar for an hour, it's harder to get up and spend 7 hours walking the streets with 50 hot meals, tea and coffee.

      @mq4702 7 років тому +4

      mike dunkling please don't do this. Stop it. It has nothing to do with actual worship. We know that worship is not a song or a sound but an action. It is to bow down your entire being to the Lord. But when he says worship pedal board, he is referring to the board that he uses to get him the sound he uses to play worship music at his church. Please don't make it more than what it is.

    • @mikedunkling6840
      @mikedunkling6840 7 років тому

      And what do those things have to do with worship music? Why do you need overdrive and compression in a worship setting? To rip that blazing solo? Do you really not understand the difference between worship and a concert? Why be like the world? Is the Gospel really that weak to you that you feel the need to punch it up with bad pop music?

    • @mikedunkling6840
      @mikedunkling6840 6 років тому

      +theycallmejpj Who cares if they have ads or not... Just because they're Christians they shouldn't be able to make a little money on it?

      Gabby Creamer well no, because you should have some ethics. have you ever gone to a church with a budweiser advert above the door? by signing up to google ads you have no control over what products or services are advertised next to your content. in this guys case, in my country, it's alcohol. hardly fitting.
      unfortunately it seems people are quick to sell their integrity these days

    I do not understand "worship music". I am a man of faith in The Lord Jesus Christ...remember the parable of the talents...?
    If you have musical talent and can create music it is a gift from God...and when you do it just make sure you do it for His glory not yours but it doesn't have to be worship music because whatever music you create is for Him.

      +Jeremy Roth sure it is, but does that really matter? The great thing about the generic stuff is everyone has it, and you can pick it up in any city when you are on tour. Ever heard of Tim Pierce?
