It should be noted that most practicing Mormons don’t actually know much about their own church history, as they’re told to only ever read about the church from the church’s website. Doing otherwise is completely villainized. Church criticism is not allowed. This is obviously a huge control tactic, so these videos can actually be so helpful to believing Mormons that aren’t aware of this stuff!
as a non mormon in utah i often find myself conversations with mormons and realizing that i know more about the history of their religion than they do.. they get so surprised
I ask, Do Mormons really read their own major book and compare it with their church history?, for example, the Book of Mormon indicates a man to have one wife, Why did Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and other early Mormons have many wives?
@@sjenson6694no, I actually live in Gilbert, AZ (just outside of Phoenix) and it has a huge Mormon community so I have quite a few Mormon friends. The only place they are allowed to read about their church is on this one specific website (obviously written by mormon leaders) and it leaves out a lot of the bad stuff about Mormonism

Former Mormon here: I remember telling a black friend that people with black skin had been cursed, because Mormon doctrine had taught us this. It’s incredibly messed up.
Yeah, unfortunately that’s an idea that some LDS members have held. While it was something a few leaders in the 19th and early 20th century speculated about I think it’s important to note that it was NEVER officially taught as doctrine by the church and definitely isn’t a belief held by LDS members or leaders now. Even Brigham young (who made some statements that could seem pretty racist by todays standards) spoke of having a vision where there would be black men with the highest blessings and authority in the priesthood, beyond that of their white counterparts.
@@anthonyterry2896 Brother, I say this as respectfully as I can- you are wrong. It was taught as doctrine ("It is not a matter of the declaration of a policy but of direct commandment from the Lord" - letter from the First Presidency, 1949). It was taught by all leaders prior to 1978 ("From the beginning of this dispensation, Joseph Smith and all succeeding presidents of the Church have taught that Negroes, while spirit children of a common Father, and the progeny of our earthly parents Adam and Eve, were not yet to receive the priesthood, for reasons which we believe are known to God, but which He has not made fully known to man." - letter from the First Presidency, 1969). Young said that black men could receive the priesthood only once all worthy white men have it ("That curse will remain upon them, and they never can hold the Priesthood or share in it until all the other descendants of Adam have received the promises and enjoyed the blessings of the Priesthood and the keys thereof" - Brigham Young, 1859).

I never understood the idea of trying to get around the "no sex" rules. If you believe in god, and believe that he is omnipotent. You're not fooling him. He knows what you're doing. He knows exactly what you're trying to do. You're not fooling him.
I dated a Mormon in high school. She invited me to meet her parents a few months into our relationship and I have to say, South Park absolutely nailed the Mormon family dynamic. It was exactly like the show. We all sat at their dinner table and her parents had her and her siblings go around and talk about how their weeks went, if they accomplished any goals, and what they were thankful for. I had to try my best not to blurt out, “Holy Joseph Smith, it’s just like South Park!”.
They also judge people hard core. They may smile and act nice. The second you turn your back they'll talk mad $+-t if they don't like you 😂. I know it cause I grew up Mormon and been to 12 different churches and they're all the same. Also working for one. Good luck leveling up if you're not a church member. Main reason I moved away from Utah
As an ex Mormon, if there was one thing we knew about the church it was that we are NOT a cult! We are just a group of people that perform secret rituals in secret gowns inside secret chambers and we all are supposed to believe the same things and act in the same ways and not question and especially not research our organisation outside of the official resources. Now what about that sounds remotely cult-like?..
@@bowencreer3922 Have you ever been to a temple? Effectively everything that's done there is supposed to be secret. There's a difference between secrets being exposed and therefore now being available and not working in secret. I agree with what you said about encouraging education but only about how correct Mormonism is. If you found out based on LDS sources that known lies are regularly taught to LDS members and 'investigators' it wouldn't matter how educated you are, the truth will not prevail over what'truth' the LDS church leaders prefers. May I ask what definition you are going by when you use the term 'cult'?
Former Mormon here also.. I remember sitting in church as a young Mormon boy in the 70s when the bishop announced that the curse had been lifted and black men could now hold the priesthood....how hysterical. If the curse of god was lifted why was their skin still black?
I find it completely racist for Mormon Leaders to make such statements like that. Plus The Book of Mormon is also a racist book because it’s shown to have racism in it.
Religions have a tendency to do that; getting with the times socio-politically even when it directly opposed their doctrine, all so that they can continue to see themselves as the good guys. It's ridiculous
If they really believed in God, they would understand that ALL cultures are on earth created by........God. So all denying or "insulting" of races is mocking God. Good for them!
I actually saw the Book of Mormon in Salt Lake City. I remember the female lead (an African girl under the process of being converted by two Mormon missionaries) expressed that she wanted to live in Salt Lake because she thought it was a place where she would be accepted. The _entire theatre_ burst out laughing. The actress almost broke character too lmao.
@@captainclutch3818 On the surface, sure. Mormons are supposed to keep up a veneer of childlike innocence and acceptance. I grew up in Utah. I was raised generally Christian but not strictly Mormon, I chose to attend church from peer pressure. I felt like I belonged, at first. But then came the standards and expectations. I was given a lengthy list of holy tasks to complete before I turned the age I could be baptized, and more before the age I could become the highest level of the 'young women's' organization (think like boy scouts for females' but entirely church based and volunteer work inside and outside the church). I was told my personality was 'unreverent' (I was a bubbly kid and friendly with all ages and genders including LGBT kids in my school) and I was told I was immodest on multiple occasions. I could not afford the correct clothes to attend church (women wore dresses). It was a lot of pressure, I would stay awake and night praying to god to give me the strength to complete all the task in the allotted time and to stop having unholy urges and thought. It made me think the internal monologue in my head was the voice of Satan. Normal things like intrusive thoughts became an evil alter ego in my head. It raged war on my psyche. I later became homeless and was taken into my STRICT Mormon friends house by their kindness. They really do behave like the South Park scenes! When I watched South Park later in life I was amazed by how accurate it was. I tried my best to fit in, they gave me dresses to attend sacrament with them and everything. I started to learn more about the history from my friends dad. The whole vibe of the religion feels like a pageant almost. It is very cult like. which family is the MOST holy? Which family does the MOST charity? Whos children had the most successful mission? Appearances had to be kept up at all times. The members of the church don't see it that way though. Before I left I truly felt like I was on the right path, making the world a better place. I cant stress enough how powerful the church is! Think about it, Mormons make up a powerful majority of Utah. Mormons are going to vote for Mormons, and Mormon politicians are going to make Mormon biased laws. They will run Mormon coded schools. I wasn't taught was sex was until I was nearly 17 years old. I thought that if I just did BETTER in everything I did I could be with god someday. I grew up in a very troubled home and I used to ask god why he would let these things happen to me. And I could only conclude that it was because I was not good enough yet. I'm glad I came to senses. But it left permanent scars. When I go out with friends I worry in the back of my mind to this day that I'm disobeying god and making Jesus disappointed. When I smoke and drink sometimes I get anxiety attacks about my 'sinful' actions. even though I don't believe in that BS anymore! It will probably stay with me for the rest of my life. Just wanted to share a summary of my experience. The whole state is a microcosm of Mormon values
I resonate so much with what you said about your "internal monologue" and how it "raged war on your psyche". It really just turned my mind against itself and honestly I feel like a lot of the anxiety I have in my life are because of it. Thanks

my whole family is mormon, i was watching this video, and my mom over heard. she then told me “listen to sources from the church, those are the only true things” very interesting take…
Listening to sources from a group that takes already made history and twists them to fit their own leaders bizarre narrative is the least trustworthy source you can get.
I would say do your own research. I hope you can find the truth. I do not believe that Mormonism is the true religion. I hope you can find the reality of Mormonism as a cult.
I am approaching my thirties, recently married in "the temple," having served a mission for this church and in numerous leadership callings, and have just left this god-awful cult. My wife and kids left with me. My heart goes out to all still within its grasp.
@FARHEENA ERROR C: You seemed to have gone pretty DEEP into this stuff buddy! I hope you and the family are taking it easy, in repairing the psychological damage done. Out of curiosity - I just want to know; did you feel any 'DARK OCCULT VIBRATIONS' among them? 😟
I'm a Mormon currently questioning my beliefs, but I've always found it strange how the age you can get baptized is 8. They say it's the age you can finally decide for yourself to be accepted into the church and take responsibility. But, when I was going to get baptized, the only reason I did choose to get baptized and join the church, was because my parents wanted me to, and I wanted to make them happy. It didn't feel like much of a choice since I was too young to really understand, I was just pressurized into doing it because everyone seemed to do it too. I could've said no to being baptized and I could've been baptized at another age, but it's like the members and church pressure you into doing it since you're so young and want to please. An 8 year old cannot make such life changing decisions.
That doesn’t seem like that big of a deal to me, I’m not a Mormon and I think you should leave for reasons of truth and following Christ in an orthodox way, but your baptism issue is rather tertiary in my view
Same.. Nor did I know that we were expected to practice polygamy in the afterlife until then. And it wasn't until I was in my 20's that I learned from a South Park episode that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon through a rock in a hat.

@@blake9184 I was reading the section of the Book of Mormon that’s copied word for word from the Bible (I believe it’s in 3rd Nephi) and as an avid language learner it struck me odd that the record in nephi would turn out word for word as the one from the Bible. Considering the one from nephi supposedly was translated directly from god but still somehow had errors only found in the 1830 KJV Bible. So I brought that to the head director of the CES who was in our mission. And he said he didn’t know the answer. That was the final straw

That's one of the things this video _kinda_ gets wrong. Kinda. It's true that's what LDS believe; but what the video doesn't tell you is that "the native Americans are the ten lost tribes of Israel" was a pretty standard concept for Joseph's time and place. There's a lot of that, actually. And as of 20:00 into the video, Philion hasn't said so unless I missed it.
I literally learned the history of Mormonism from a single 20 minute episode of South Park. I grew up in a state with a very large mormon population: had at least 30-40% of each high school graduating class composed of mormons; and mormon relatives. I had mormon best friends, etc. you get my point. South Park got it spot on. Even the historical part. That show can genuinely be educational sometimes.
I’ve had the same situation happen to me where I live. High Mormon population and many Mormon friends. They’re nice people don’t get me wrong, but whenever religion is brought up they become severely insecure and their entire mood changes. Even if it’s casually brought up they don’t want to converse with you anymore. I once asked how Mormonism was different from Christianity in a very honest and curious way (because at the time I hadn’t known much about the religion) and my friend got so serious and took it as if I was mocking them. I really dislike their teachings that Mormons should avoid all criticism and never engage in debates about the religion. It’s very controlling and I will always stand by the fact that they are a cult.
@braden tripp point is that is shows how pointless it is to pretend any of these religions are worth anything since they have all been founded by well known conmen and you are better off worshipping the sun then listen to any man made religion.

@@briannielson1221 Y'know why Jesus abolished the animal sacrificing? In ancient times, when a person sacrificed a lamb or another animal to God, the purpose of it was that it casted the person's sin on the animal and when the animal dies it is like the sins disappeared with the death, as if the person are now clean to the eyes of God, Jesus abolished that, because His sacrifice on the cross already made all of our sins pardoned, we don't need to sacrifice animals anymore, He was our lamb, our ultimate Saviour

I can't see how anyone would want to become a Mormon, especially after finding/hearing something about Mormonism that doesn't seem/sound Christian (a major example is Jesus as a spirit brother of Lucifer, instead of Jesus as God incarnate in John 1:1 - :14) and for any young Blacks who are Mormon, know that from 1830 - most of the 1970's, Blacks weren't allowed inside a Mormon temple and were considered as evil and less than Whites, that's racism.-----For myself, I'm a 58 year old simply Christian Single White American with some Cherokee from my Father's side (my paternal Great Grandma was Cherokee/Irish) and I'm glad to not be Mormon, although, I came close to being baptized in June '87 (I was 23) in the Mormon Church in my former hometown of Westerville, Ohio (Mormons liked Westerville of then (they use to rent the apartment at 22 and a half, apt. “Maroni” was probably just an Italian guy that Smitty met at a bar. He was so drunk that he woke up thinking he’d spoken to an Angel, except it was just a drunk guy from Italy.
Maroni means balls, which just makes this into the story of a guy that was unapologetically mocked by an Italian who made him start a cult based off of a pretty rude word for a part of the male reproductive system
@jeffs4483 is close to correct. Moroni is the Capital city of the Country of Comoros off of the South of Africa. It is unclear whether Smith stole Moroni from the book Captain Kidd or just off of a map of the earth. Ironic also is that Smith slightly changed the spelling of Comoros to Cumorah and that is where the Book of Mormon got the giant battle of Cumorah Hill.
Former Mormon here. I didn't learn about a lot of the history of the church I grew up in until I had left the church. Much of what members believe is localized since the leadership is extremely vague about what they teach and will often tell flat out lies or just leave out very important information. I've had Missionaries instantly leave after knocking on my door because I mentioned the Nauvoo Expositor and the real translation of the Abrahamic Scrolls. Some members know the truth and intentionally shield their companions from learning it because they know that it is destructive to faith. It's disgusting.

I visited Salt Lake City and Mormons have absolute control on that city. Coming out of the airport there's dozens, maybe even hundreds lined up to welcome back the young men, maybe 18 or 19 who they sent to other countries to do their service work. I was in a cult for most of my life too. It's called Christianity. You have to believe in someone you've never met, only heard about in a book written thousands of years ago or else you will go to this fiery place to burn for all of eternity when you die. You can't question it and you can't research if it's actually true or not or that is considered heresy and a sin against your supposed creator who loves you unconditionally but still sends you there because of not believing or going against him. And if you try to tell others that he sends you there, members of the cult turn it around on you saying that you send yourself there and guilt trip you about it until the end of time. Being an honest, good person isn't enough. You have to have blind faith. It's very damaging and very nonsensical if you take a step back and look at it. The sad thing is you don't realize it is until you get out but by then, it might be too late.

Right after I lost my faith, I was more furious than I had ever been in my life, and I've yet to experience anger that intense since. I was angry at my family for exposing me to such toxic, stupid beliefs when just reading the Bible is enough to see that there's nothing divinely inspired about it; I was angry at people who were still Christian for using their religion to hurt other people while being too lazy to actually read the book they believe came from their god; and I was even angry at myself for not figuring things out earlier. Spending time working with a secular therapist has helped me mostly make peace with the situation, and I did my best to course-correct my life to make up for all the decisions I made with my brain turned off. Since I no longer had to worry about the possibility of a university education turning me away from Christ, I enrolled in a community college at 24 and wound up getting a BS at 30; starting at that age means your parents income doesn't impact eligibility for financial aid, so I was able to get a college education with almost no debt. I've been able to unlearn all of the really messed up beliefs that I picked up from my parents and found a partner who respects me as much as I respect him, and I can honestly say that I don't even feel anger about how I was raised any more. I'm sharing this information with you to let you know that a setback doesn't hsve to mean total ruin. Humans are pretty resilient, and now that you've got both feet planted firmly in reality, it will be much easier for you to fix things relative to when you thought some supernatural force had control over existence. You didn't deserve to grow up like that, and the trauma has left you with wounds that won't go away overnight, but you have the strenght to overcome it.

I've had a theory that there's only like.... 200 people in the world TOPS, and this comment just proves it further. Idk why but stories about running into mutual acquaintances while travelling across the entire planet always bugs me out(and everyone has at least 1 family vacation they ran into an old friend while way the fuck away from home)
I’m an ex-mormon and I can say with complete confidence that they do NOT want you to know about this stuff. You are told to not look at any anti-Mormon videos, books, etc. because if you learn of this most people will leave the cult. Sorry church.
Nahh most smart members of the church look into this stuff now because it’s good brain food. The problem with videos like these is that they’re full of misleading information like the false fact that members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints fear water. They’ve taken an obscure verse out of context and use that to declare what we believe. Also anytime they try to make members of the Church of Jesus Christ look like white supremacists, they forget to add that Joseph Smith ran for president and did so on a no slavery ticket. There are many examples of critics being right but also just flat out wrong or clearly biased against the church like this video.
Strange because I can say with complete confidence that I was taught to question my beliefs, but simply to doubt the doubts first, and to make sure the source you’re reading isn’t biased. My problem with these videos is that they get so many things wrong about the doctrine and beliefs, it becomes an inability to really criticize said doctrine and belief.
And my answer would be no we dont and that was something imperfect leaders spread and is not real doctrine. The guy who wrote that in the book "mormon doctrine" ended up regretting it and apologizing. You'd be surprised at how many black members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints there are. We worship Jesus Christ.
As a former Mormon, my chuch and seminary never taught about the whole "rewritten native american past" or "master race" stuff. They just never bring up the the bad stuff so we didn't get suspicious. But this stuff is crazy.
This short doc should have mentioned how Joseph Smith claimed to "translate" Egyptian papyrus hieroglyphics into "scripture," but they just turned out to be information on funerary practices and lists of funeral supplies. That clinches it right there; no further evidence is even needed.
I too believe JS was a fraud… however, I wanted to point out that the “explanation” for that is that JS had tried translating the papyrus on his own, and not with and through the power of God.
The funniest one is the hieroglyphics that Joe Smith claimed was God sitting on his throne in heaven, but in actuality it was the Egyptian god of fertility sitting on his throne with a boner
@@SonOfTheCovenant Google Joseph Smith Papyri. They're in the possession of the LDS church. The Book of Abraham which Smith falsely claimed was a translation of one of them, bears no resemblance to the papyrus, which is an excerpt from the Egyptian Book of the Dead. This is relatively well-known, but I'm not surprised LDS members aren't told about it.
I grew up Mormon in Utah and have a few things I’d like to add on to this video 1. Black members were not allowed to lead prayer in church meetings, enter temples, or receive the priesthood (basically authority to hold church callings) until 1978. 19fucking78. On top of this until then Mormons believed that if you were especially faithful as a black member your skin would physically turn white. Technically this was never removed from the BoM they just changed up the wording from “white and delightsome” to “fair and delightsome”. 2. In order to reach the celestial kingdom you must not only practice Mormonism but go through all 5 (4 if you’re a woman) saving ordinances, those being baptism, confirmation, receiving the Melchizedek priesthood (this is the one women are excluded from, it’s the authority to do things like baptize people and hold higher church callings), endowment and being sealed to a heterosexual partner in a temple. If you miss one sorry bub no exaltation (godhood) for you. Also of note is the fact that only people who make it to the celestial kingdom get to live forever with their families. 3. Joseph smith actually had something like 6 different versions of ‘The First Vision’ (that’s when he saw JC and his pops in the woods) sometimes he only sees one of the two, sometimes satan shows up for some reason, not really a smoking gun here but information I thought was interesting. 4. Mormons don’t just call it the godhood, Mormons believe that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are completely separate beings (well they didn’t at first but they changed it pretty early into printing BoMs) 5. Joseph Smith was not an alleged con man. He WAS a con man. He would take peoples money to find treasure or water on their property and when he didn’t find anything he would take off. It’s why he left New York. The funny thing about Mormonism is most of this information is completely missing from the members. Speaking from experience the church works very hard to demonize any information that comes from outside church sources. Also I have a gripe with soaking. I believe soaking is a myth. I’m sure people do it and have done it, what I’m saying is I had literally never heard of it (or jump humping for that matter) until it blew up on tiktok. I have talked to many friends about it and neither had they (but if you have and I’m wrong, let me know :) derfing is absolutely real though. Lastly I just want to say that Mormons really are very nice people. They’re still human so of course they aren’t perfect but that’s on you if you expect that. The only thing that separates them from you is an impenetrable barrier inside their brain that walls off Mormonism from the rest of their critical thinking mechanisms. Other than that they’re pretty normal, almost boringly so. And finally the pronunciation of some of the stuff in this video bugged me so I’m correcting it here Moroni: MORE-OWN-EYE Nephi: NEEF-EYE Nephite: NEEF-ITE Lamanites: LAY-MEN-ITES
I think the pronunciations were done out of ignorance/sarcasm. Like the part where he blatantly leaves out "Jesus Christ" when it says there on the screen "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." I mean if you're going to criticize someone or something... do it the right way and without any preconceived prejudice. I myself am a former Mormon and I agree with most, if not all, of what this guy is saying. But, the "spirit" in which he conveys it seems like he was r@ped by a mob of Mormons or something.
@@richardholmes5676 that's just an opinion. We don't know for sure whether or not he was a con-man. One of his "wives" was an underaged 14 year girl, a fact already admitted by the church. Now, either side whether it's A) ex-mormons with a grudge or B) overzealous church members, could interpret this however way they can. One side would probably see it as, "Oh, Joseph was a peedophile!" without knowing the exact details of the relationship. Was it consensual? Did they fornicate? etc. etc. And the other side just keeping the matter hush-hush. Both sides are wrong. Every member of the church should be made aware of all the facts. And every begrudging ex-Mormon should stop misconstruing the facts to fit their own personal narrative and agenda.
The were my gateway to Christianity (at the time I was a Muslim). They taught me most of the things that The Bible teaches and rarely talked about their history. When I came to the U.S. the story changed as I was introduced to other churches that are based on the Bible. They saw I was leaving and said “doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith” to which I responded “if it wasn’t for doubting my faith, i would still be a Muslim”. I’m glad God put them on my way for me to learn something but the same God took them away so I don’t learn everything from them. I decided to baptized a second time just because i was regretful of my baptism at the LDS church.
im glad you found God . i was also in a cult . they had found me in a weak point of my faith . they were a korean cult called the SCJ ... they , similar to you , taught me many things in the Bible but did not mention their history until much later . currently i attend a methodist and also a catholic church .
@@austinschultz354 it’s interesting how people who think the most about Christianity actually know nothing. All it is is a relationship between you and your father. That’s it. We don’t have any sort of ritual or anything else. And let me ask you something: which one do you choose? If there is a God, I would be saved and you may not And if there is no God, then we all lose. You’re losing either way by this mentality.

As an ex Mormon myself this is one of the best and most researched videos I’ve seen on the religion. Not only is it approximately the third largest religion in the US, but as the top comment says Mormons are not allowed to criticize the church and outside research is heavily discouraged. This makes educating people and spreading awareness all the more important. While it is important to remember that the church is fueled by persecution, our generation and future ones must stay informed so they can avoid falling for the manipulative tactics the church uses to recruit and control more members. Thanks for the great video Phil!
you realize mormon influence is only a fraction of ✡ influence right? put it this way, do you think kanye wouldve been banned from social media and his bank by calling out mormons and not the other religous group? think about itttt.
Mormon here, sorry you had a bad experience with the people in your ward. but, the entire concept of faith in the Mormon church is predicated on the basis of questioning its authenticity, I have never been anywhere were questioning was more heavily encouraged than in the lds church. It's just really sad to me, the lds church is the only religion in the world that everyone calls a cult, entirely because they just can't comprehend that the members of the church actually like people, and serve them to the best of our ability with no strings attached.
@@Onion___Knight this is not the hill I wish to die on, and I will not refute the idea that maybe you are just a part of a really great ward. @@andreinapereira552 The LDS are taught to “Love one another as Jesus would” so most will try to be like Jesus that way, which is why they’re usually very nice and welcoming, some people get the wrong idea from this, though they are human and are imperfect so sometimes personal judgement or beliefs can get in the way of this, but most will try there best. :)

I grew up mormon. My family are still very much practicing. I find even with mormon strangers, i can usually predict how they'll react to different things. They've all been relatively programmed to think the same exact way. It's eerie now having stepped back to look at the community as a whole. I see them seriously defending the church. I see them giving 10% of their income. I see them absolutely refusing to really look at the outsides opinion. And its very sad. Very few mormons actually realize just how influenced theyve been throughout their life. They've heard their elders justify things, and so they usually parrot that. I wish nothing but clarity for the members. But to the men who legitimately lie, saying they've prayed on things until they've gotten an answer, those men should be ashamed of themselves. They know its bull. It's really sad. These are people who've usually had generations before them saying the same thing. It's so ingrained in them that they're almost incapable of believing anything else. Then there are the converts, who have been convinced that they'll find community and security during times of serious vulnerability. No church should have as much money as they do. No church should basically have control of a state, almost two. No church should take that much of your income either. And yes, they have "charitable" organizations like their storehouses. But it means significantly less when you realize they get money for that too. Modern day latter day saints care about 1 thing at the end of the day and only 1 thing. Money.
Well at least, as deeply ingrained as were those beliefs within your fellow parishioner's minds in Utah, you were able to take the whole thing with a grain of Salt.
Well, like many other cults, dissenting opinions are just straight up taboo. My ex wife grew up Mormon and was literally completely disowned by her parents. In our 6ish years of marriage I never once formally met her parents, despite attending 2 family reunions and being in the same room as them several times. They weren't at the wedding, they've never met my kids (but have met all other grandkids by the siblings that weren't disowned). I'm a tattooed atheist Marine vet and I don't think theu wanted anything to do with me. Outside her shitty parents though, the siblings, grandmother, cousins, etc. Were nice people. I met all 16 thousand of them and they treated me like a normal person
Read the book of mormon and pray about it once you do that everything will start to click I can promise that if you read the whole book of mormon and follow the end message to ask God in Jesus name if it's true you will get your answer. God bless you man and I'm sorry you see our church in that way

You did a wonderful job on this video as usual! I grew up Mormon until I moved out and had the option to choose not to go. I realized from around the age of 12 that things were not as they seemed and that I did not believe. Another disturbing thing is how many crimes, especially sexual crimes that get addressed through the churches system of "repentance" and no legal action is pursued because being forgiven from God is most important in their eyes. Absolute cult and I feel awful for the victims still trapped within it.
Same here. had them figured out as a cult by the age of like 12 or 13 Tried to educate my parents but it was like talking to a brick wall. Managed to leave by the age of 16.
@@skatingbozo Very fortunate you were able to get out when you did. You're spot on with talking to a brick wall trying to reason with Mormons about how corrupt it is.
@@jadenbeaulne191 talking to a brick wall is the most accurate statement on debating with Mormons I’ve ever heard. It’s all just rehearsed answers and continuous bearing of testimony without any statements to support it. Finally got my parents to admit they weren’t coming to conclusions with logic or common sense but instead through “gospel principle.” At that point there’s not much I can do to influence them if evidence is just a means to an end for them and not an actual consideration.
@@skatingbozo Same story with me. My parents forced me to attend church and the dreaded seminary classes. I argued with my mom that it would be satan's plan to force a religion upon someone, and she finally relented when I was 16. To be fair though, Mormonism isn't any more weird than any of the other thousands of religions out there. They are all pretty silly if you ask me. I'm happy to be free of religious absurdity but when I see the laws of my country being influenced by religious dogma I do get concerned. No need to worry about climate change, god wouldn't let that happen to us, right?
i was raised mormon, and even when i began to realize something was wrong, i refused to actually accept the truth, because i had built my entire life around my faith. i didn't bother planning for the future because i thought the second coming would arrive before i had to go to college. when i finally began to accept that what i had been learning my entire life was wrong, my parents forced me to continue to go to church and pretend i was faithful. they were distraught every time i reminded them that i was only acting for their benefit. recently my therapist told me that a speaker at general conference told parents that if their children strayed from the path of mormonism, that was a fault on the parents' part. even though i can't forgive my parents for the way they treated me, i still feel so bad about it. three of their four children have left the church, and there's no doubt they consider it a personal failing instead of the church being bad. i can't stress enough how terrible the church is for everyone involved.
"i can't stress enough how terrible the church is for everyone involved." Boy, you sure hit that nail on the head. My grandmother (born in Utah in 188?) was promised in her Patriarchal Blessing that she would live to see the Second Coming of Christ. Since she passed in 1976, I think they are running a little behind schedule. Can you imagine how much that would fv
The People running the church are the bad. The members are just misguided souls looking to do good. Yes, I was once a member. Could almost say I was born into the church. There is so much sadness and harm in the world. I don't feel it is right to destroy someone's beliefs because I've discovered the truth and they haven't yet. There are more important things to worry about than ruining someone beliefs thinking they are doing good.
You mentioned that you cannot forgive the way your parents treated you. If you don't mind me asking, what was unforgivable about their treatment of you?

I’m in the church still, I grew up with Mormons around Mormons my entire life in Utah. And although I don’t entirely believe in their ‘ideology’ or ‘beliefs’ as much as I did in the past- lemme tell you, you can say Mormons are ‘brainwashed’ or ‘crazy’ as much as you want. But they are genuinely very kind people. At least that was the case in my experience with the Mormon church. Some of my best memories were in church or hanging out with the young women’s. I told them about my doubts in the church and god and all of that, and they accepted me whole heartedly and understood me fully, regardless of my agnosticism. Heck, some of my family members are advocates against Mormonism yet we still love them fully. Their beliefs back then were questionable, don’t get me wrong. But nowadays, all they preach now is loving your family, being kind, and helping people. People might find that a bunch of hooey, but I think it’s admirable. I’m an ex-Mormon, technically. But I’m not blood red with hate towards LDS members like the majority of ex-Mormons are. They are genuinely kind, remorseful, generous, accepting, and caring people. Most of them are. I won’t deny that some of y’all had heinous experiences with the mormon church. But I just don’t want all the non-Mormons to see the LDS church as satan’s lair. One summer two girls approached my mom wanting to talk about their religion (They were Mormon), My mom, a devout Catholic, straight up told them that she was not interested, and she could listen, but she would never change her religion. She still allowed them in to grab a drink since it was like 90 degrees, and both girls were wearing long sleeves and long skirts. Fast forward a few months, they still come in every so often to use the restroom and grab a bottle of water, they even helped my mom with chores. My mom shared pictures and family videos, like a mom does, and they never brought their religion back up. I remember them stopping by to say goodbye to my mom once their "mission" was over, I can't remember if anyone cried, but I don't think my mom did, but she appreciated their company, even if she thinks their religion is crazy. I should mention that part on their mission was to practice their Spanish, so they could bring their religion to Hispanic people or whatever. (also, one of them had a crush on my brother lol). There are other details about this story, but this is pretty much it. To this day she remembers them fondly and when I asked her "What if they were only being nice to turn you to their religion?" and she said "That would be in their hearts, I just wanted to help two girls out of the heat." Nothing to do with what "Religion is better" In my opinion they all suck in their own ways, this is more a story about my mom being nice and our experience with mormons)
IMO th people suck, but the religion doesn't always have to. Sometimes people suck because of the religion they believe in and sometimes it's not completely so, but this is a case of the former, not latter(joke intended)
I once was a mormon missionary and I think I can give the other side perspective. Missions are very hard physically and emotionally. When you find somebody who treats you well, like a friend, even if the person is not interested in the message, you really gonna appreciate that. I used to see people like your mom like a happy moment during the day. Missionaries are young. 20 yo. In houses when I was received nicely I felt like in home for a moment. Usually leaders of the church don't like that. Because it was a waste of time. So when a mormon is being nice to you after you said that have no interest in the message, is truly genuine, and they are kind not following the rules
As someone who was raised LDS in Salt Lake City this is pretty spot on. Some of the things to add to this stuff is the Word of Wisdom. There are four tenants to it, no hot beverages, no tobacco, no alcohol and no meat. Three of these are vague and contradict themselves like alcohol, it says "strong beverage" but doesn't specifically say what that it is. But it also says you can have wine for sacrament and actually commands members to drink drinks made from grain...alcohol. The one that is specific is the no eating of meat unless it's in times of famine which they do not ever follow or even address.
As a Mormon, I understand the video, even agree with it in almost all ways. The only thing I can’t get behind is the blatant hate in the comments and from people who either had negative experiences with a select few people, or have never had interaction with the church in any way. In the 19 years I’ve been a member of the church I’ve been able to count on one hand the number of fanatic and crazy Mormons people seem to think we all are. The rest of the thousands of people I’ve met have been kind and advocate for believing what you want, and showing kindness to everyone no matter what. I don’t see that same level of love in the comments of this video, even from so called “Christians”. What would Jesus do? He would love.

Ex mormon here: I broke away after being threatened by the bishop’s wife telling me that I would go to hell if I didn’t attend her weekly church’s classes and attend my mission as soon as I turn 18, so I found it in me to get away and be on my own path, I then processed that this was in fact a cult I had been a part of, I deeply regret being part of it but I was way too young to even process it for myself. Many of my friends I made inside the church have also broken away for how harsh the bishop has forced mormonism onto us and forcing us to go into the damn mission
'being way too young to even process it for myself' - This is by design and it's one reason why they've lowered the age of missions. Young people are leaving in droves & the church knows their only chance is to indoctrinate very young, require you to make covenants at a 8 that are supposed to last for eternity, and then send you off immediately to the ultimate in cult indoctrination with your mission. Missions are designed to isolate & indoctrinate the YA members, not necessarily to find new converts (which is a losing game). I'm really glad you & your friends made it out.

Yeah that’s what cult members do and it’s sickening that these Mormons do that to people especially when those who were former members leaving The Mormon Church and they send people from their church to try and get them back to their church and as they refuse and then it turns into harassment and then later on they get a restraining from the person who left The Mormon Church it’s just so sickening.
It's so powerful that you prayed about it and God answered!! I am Christian, nondenominational, and God has spoken to me personally and given me guidance and met me where I'm at so many times. When I was an active protestant Christian, I loved questioning things and reading into stuff. I got into a lot of debates with Catholics and other denominations and it was always helpful to me to understand them more. Yeah, in the case of both LDS and JW, they excitedly show you specific cherry-picked Bible passages, and if you rebut them with pretty much any Bible passages that you know, they have nothing and just kind of give the deer in the headlights stare. It becomes very clear very quickly that these people are told what to believe and never question it and don't really seem to expect you to question it critically either. It just pains me.
I have a Mormon friend and I’ve talked to them about their religion and it was really interesting, they later asked me why I don’t practice a religion and after that they were a different person regarding religion. Of course they are going on their mission next year so they are still very devout to their faith. It’s also funny because at one point I wanted to date but I knew for a fact it wouldn’t work out because of her faith.
I’m a bit late too all this but obviously you’ve just been talking to people who probably don’t really study the Bible that much. I’ve had many a debate online about my religion and never once has someone put down an irrefutable claim, it all comes down to a matter of interpretation

Because the film began with a (admittedly gratuitous) sex scene, an adult woman student told me she couldn’t watch it, because as a Mormon she couldn’t watch anything her children were not allowed to see. Baffled me, but I think I remember allowing her to read the original book instead. These kids were high school & college aged.
I grew up in Las Vegas and had many Mormon friends throughout my childhood and teen years. Because my family is agnostic, I never knew much about church or religion period. Briefly my best friend’s family joined the church and I remember being completely weirded out by the new “rules” they were following. It didn’t last long, they stopped going after about a year or so. It wasn’t until years later that she explained the insanity of it all to me. It’s actually quite sad because a lot of the Mormons I knew in high school were kind people who had obviously been totally manipulated by lies. Yeah, unfortunately that’s an idea that some LDS members have held.

@@blake9184 I was reading the section of the Book of Mormon that’s copied word for word from the Bible (I believe it’s in 3rd Nephi) and as an avid language learner it struck me odd that the record in nephi would turn out word for word as the one from the Bible. That's one of the things this video _kinda_ gets wrong. Kinda. South Park got it spot on. Even the historical part.
That show can genuinely be educational sometimes.
They did a great job with Scientology as well
The creators of the show were actually LDS for a good amount of time
I’ve had the same situation happen to me where I live. High Mormon population and many Mormon friends. They’re nice people don’t get me wrong, but whenever religion is brought up they become severely insecure and their entire mood changes. Even if it’s casually brought up they don’t want to converse with you anymore.

I wasn't raised Mormon, but I am gay and grew up in an NIFB family, so I can at least relate to being traumatized by growing up in a cult.

I called out a missionary one time that tried to convert me! I said “Don’t yall believe that my skin is cursed?” They couldn’t even respond to me!
LDS believe dark skin is a curse from God. It's written within their very own BoM.
And my answer would be no we dont and that was something imperfect leaders spread and is not real doctrine. The guy who wrote that in the book "mormon doctrine" ended up regretting it and apologizing. You'd be surprised at how many black members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints there are.
😂
The funniest one is the hieroglyphics that Joe Smith claimed was God sitting on his throne in heaven, but in actuality it was the Egyptian god of fertility sitting on his throne with a boner
The anti-Mormon material gets dumber and dumber every day. where do you people find this bs 😂
I grew up Mormon in Utah and have a few things I’d like to add on to this video
4. Mormons don’t just call it the godhood, Mormons believe that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are completely separate beings (well they didn’t at first but they changed it pretty early into printing BoMs)
And finally the pronunciation of some of the stuff in this video bugged me so I’m correcting it here
Moroni: MORE-OWN-EYE
Nephi: NEEF-EYE
Nephite: NEEF-ITE
Lamanites: LAY-MEN-ITES
I think the pronunciations were done out of ignorance/sarcasm. Like the part where he blatantly leaves out "Jesus Christ" when it says there on the screen "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." I mean if you're going to criticize someone or something... do it the right way and without any preconceived prejudice. I myself am a former Mormon and I agree with most, if not all, of what this guy is saying. But, the "spirit" in which he conveys it seems like he was r@ped by a mob of Mormons or something.
Joseph Smith was obviously not a con man.

Not only is it approximately the third largest religion in the US, but as the top comment says Mormons are not allowed to criticize the church and outside research is heavily discouraged. This makes educating people and spreading awareness all the more important. Money.

I'm a tattooed atheist Marine vet and I don't think theu wanted anything to do with me. Outside her shitty parents though, the siblings, grandmother, cousins, etc. Were nice people. I met all 16 thousand of them and they treated me like a normal person

To this day she remembers them fondly and when I asked her "What if they were only being nice to turn you to their religion?" and she said "That would be in their hearts, I just wanted to help two girls out of the heat."
Nothing to do with what "Religion is better" In my opinion they all suck in their own ways, this is more a story about my mom being nice and our experience with mormons)

I once was a mormon missionary and I think I can give the other side perspective. Missions are very hard physically and emotionally.
The one that is specific is the no eating of meat unless it's in times of famine which they do not ever follow or even address.
lets be real no one follows those tenants in anny faith

Many of my friends I made inside the church have also broken away for how harsh the bishop has forced mormonism onto us and forcing us to go into the damn mission
'being way too young to even process it for myself' - This is by design and it's one reason why they've lowered the age of missions. Young people are leaving in droves & the church knows their only chance is to indoctrinate very young, require you to make covenants at a 8 that are supposed to last for eternity, and then send you off immediately to the ultimate in cult indoctrination with your mission. That is true, most religious bouts cause division and I’m sorry to hear that. Although, there are churches that do exist for good, and strive for unity and strength in community. When I was an active protestant Christian, I loved questioning things and reading into stuff. I got into a lot of debates with Catholics and other denominations and it was always helpful to me to understand them more. I used to want to debate a mormon since I really didn't know much about them, but I actually learned about mormonism and realized it would be as useful as debating a jehova's witness (which I have done and was incredibly frustrating and weird).
