And I love how the blue tape has been in the background on those cabinets for 5yrs Lol. You're the man bro!
It's always interesting to see how you deal with out of square and plumb as well as different floor levels in older homes. It's easy if everything is perfect. The sign of a true craftsman is someone who can deal with all the weirdness and make it look perfect.
Professional, not perfect.
Yep. If everything was always perfect anyone could do it
12:08 a tip to help prevent those nail blowouts is to always shoot the nails in with the gun perpendicular to the piece. Thats because of the way the ends of those brad nails are cut. If you look closely at them. They almost always shoot off to the right or left of the gun when holding it normal.
PS- 10:13 get the dishes done??? 🤔😆
I was trying to say this but you said way more clearly.
Took the words right out of my mouth! Never take the risk...ESPECIALLY on jamb side.
Came here to comment this exact thing
Anybody who has done finish carpentry professionally has had blowouts like that many times. We all have screamed like same word as you. If you bend the nail back and forth until it breaks, it will always break off below the surface of the wood. No need to use a nail set.
Thank you
"Massive" gets me every time! 😂
Definitely want to see the door transition work.
Trim carpentry. Thanks for your comments about the DeWalt neller, it does drive the nails, through oak and you're right, you are invested in the battery platform. Ok I also learned that it's hard to predict if or which way a nail is going to dive out, however if you align your nail's chisel tip along the grain (turn your nail gun parallel to the grain) AND drive/shoot the nail so it is biased into the jamb, there is less chance of an eruption. And always carry some bull daggers (diagonal cutting pliers, if ykyk) with your neller.
Wouldn’t mind seeing that custom transition woodwork
Handy Man, how could any body get tired of watching a 'true craftsman' at work? The plus is working with real wood. Another fabulous job, well done!
Great show Handy, in our custom cabinet shop whenever we have a blowout nail, it’s bent back and forth. It will break off flush with the wood. Less to punch and fill that way. HandyOn!
Thanks, I will remember that.
Watching you in the workshop is like a comfort show. And I learn some tips
Handy Andy 100% has taken a nail to the head.
PPS- I think I remember you telling that nail in head story on a livestream. The guy ended up being OK thankfully I think I recall you saying 😆🙏
Those 18 gauge nails have a chisel head. I think they always curve out the same way. So you can predict which way they might curve and hold the nailer accordingly. So it curves into wood instead of poking through it.
Trim looks really good Handyman, great job!
Those chisel point nails will almost always curve out to the left or right. I.e. perpendicular to the direction of the magazine.
You can minimize the chances of them deflecting back through the surface by being mindful of directions they are likely to curve.
For sure, would love to see the transition!
I'd like to see a video on you messing around!
A Paslode trim nailer will fasten trim pieces to CMU. It’s amazing, one day I’ll switch.
Always a good day when there’s Handyman release.
Gotta keep the nose of the nailer parallel to the piece you're shooting. Come on Handy 😅
Yes. I would love the see that.
I'm dewalt all the way except for my nail guns. They are Milwaukee 18,15 and big fred the framer. I could stand the fan and ramp up while watching other subs.
I have a lot of Dewalt tools and a bunch of batteries. I bought the Ryobi 18ga and 23ga nailers, and I bought an adapter on Amazon to use the Dewalt batteries to power them. It works great. I probably wouldn't use one of those adapters for something like an angle grinder, but for tools that use quick zips of energy I think there is probably minimal possibility of damaging the battery if you watch the battery charge level.
Good tip.
Paslode has the best 18g nailer. You do have to buy gas cartridges but it's lighter than the other nailer and works amazing.
Split edges comes with working with red oak
That menards hardwood cost more than your saw handy lol
I'm interested in seeing that
So if you have lat n plaster walls, you only use liquid nails for the trimming and base molding or what exactly do you do and use?
If you have a good sold wall you can use nails. This area was already cracked and close to the edge. That's why I glued instead of nails.
Hey Handyman, why do you not rotate your nailgun 90 degrees so that your nails don’t drift out of the door jamb?
Looking good, stain grade stuff intimidates me because I don't know all the tips and tricks to fix and cover your mistakes. It's probably not terrible, it's just unforgiving so you need to bring your A game.
My grandpa was shot it the top of his head with a roofing nail gun. He had a divot in the top of his where they had to dugout around it, so they could get under the head and pull it out. He was fine though.
I am a battery slut, I use RYOBI, Ridgid and Bosch because all I buy is on sale or clearance. Love my RYOBI 18 gauge nailer! Yep I said love to Ryobi because it has worked flawlessly. Thanks for the video.
Behave yourself at the cocktail party Handy.
Lmao. I almost hit myself in the face with my new siding gun. Blew my hat right off. I guess you can concentrate too hard on something.
Totally off topic, why the two watches? Have to ask lol.
I’ve seen quite a few people shoot themselves with a pneumatic framer, luckily not in their heads. So far, I’ve avoided that experience myself.
Handyman so rich he's wearing 2 Rolex's 😂
What's going on with that bicycle back there? Look like some stuff is missing, is there not?

It's not a ridged.
Make the video!!!!!!!
Whats the difference between 18G vs 15G for this application?
A lot.
15ga is much bigger.
If you’re not painting it , then 18 gauge is a less visible for finishing.👍🏝️🇨🇦

Are you a union carpenter?
👍👍
Come on Handy! I'm not the safety police but wear some eye protection with nail guns. If that nail decided to keep zipping through on its u-turn, that looked like it was headed right for your eyeball. I've had nails ricochet at my face before, though more often it's bits of wood splintering off from bad shots. The framing nailers are worse, since those have enough force to chip bits of the nail off occasionally, and they also shoot the little plastic bits from the nail strip pretty hard sometimes.
An eye patch might get you some more subs, but I'll bet it would suck.
Most of my adult life has been spent on a commercial or residential construction site. You will never see safety glasses.
@@TheHandyman1 I hear you. It's funny, when I drive by the cancer hospital, I often see a bunch of nurses outside smoking.
Which may be why the only people who came into my office with Corneal foreign bodies were from Commercial and Residential construction sites@@TheHandyman1
Also do not throw a (cordless) nail-gun at a door because it will bounce back and hit you in the head..... 😶🌫
Why are you wearing two watches ?
Mf on that double time
Why are you wearing 2 watches?
Business stuff.
So what happen to the guy after he shot himself in the head?
He had to go to the hospital and get it removed
Did the guy who got shot in the head with the nail gun die??
No. He went to hospital and got it removed. It was not a framing nail.
Hey Handy, you're pretty much deaf now right? :D
