With the one-two punch of X/Pearl, props to Mia Goth for playing both the younger version of the character in the prequel, as well the older Pearl AND Maxine in X, the makeup for her in that one is truly transformative.
Ive been hearing a lot of this opinion in recent years that they don't like "Children of the Corn". This just blows my mind as the finale was one of the scariest things I saw my entire childhood. Seeing possessed Issac and the demon in the ground actually being real was just so scary to me. Gave me nightmares for weeks.
You can defeat the things with a water pistol and closing a door in their face. They're the furthest things from scary you could possibly get. Signs was terrible
I found The Witch boring, slow and not scary at all. Even the witch in the woods to me just looked like the stereotypical movie witch. The end was just expected. I was very disappointed.
I think these films are usually labelled under the subgenre "Folk Horrors" here in the UK. The 70s were full of them. Very creepy and sort of dirty and muddy, or sometimes dusty and dry.
LMAO no sorry these are NOT folk horror movies whatsoever 🙄😂🤡 and it’s not called folk horrorS either…..good grief. Maybe research WHAT makes a movie a folk horror.
He's on about films just based on farms, completely different to folklore which is like fairytales & mythology etc. I'm from the UK & you haven't offended me 😊💜🐾👍👋
I love Dark Night of the Scarecrow. It's such a fun movie to revisit every few years. I wish they'd make TV movies like this still. It's so great and the atmosphere is amazing.
My favorites are Dark Night of the Scarecrow and Motel Hell. I’ve also seen Children of the Corn, Deadly Blessing, and Signs. I definitely wanna see X, Pearl, Blood on Satan’s Claw and The Witch. I may have to catch The Red House and Color out of Space. I too, love B&W movies, Daniel. Thanks 😊 for the recommendations!
I remember watching The Witch for the first time with headphones as it was recommended by a friend who told me the sounds at time were subtle. So here I am, watching The Witch in my bedroom, blanket curled up around me, glued to my tablet…and my boyfriend snuck in and grabbed my feet to pull me out of the bed ala horror movie fashion. Scared the living crap out of me!
There's a weird old movie called The Touch of Satan (1971) that takes place on a walnut farm that is pretty interesting. It's far from perfect but is definitely worthwhile.
The VVitch is incredible. I was scared to watch it and then when I did it surpassed the hype. What an unsettling movie. And I loved seeing The Blood on Satan's Claws on your list. Awesome movie.
No 'Pumpkinhead'? Also '1974's 'A Sunday In The Country' and 1975's 'The Devil's Rain' [both with a menacing Ernest Borgnine] Also 'Messengers 2: The Scarecrow' and ' 2009's 'Staunton Hill'.
Dead Birds is really creepy. The CGI has NOT aged well but its fine for brief, under the bed creature jumpscares. If you've ever read (or seen) The Pigeons From Hell, Dead Birds, with it's deserted plantation house full of avian evil and dark secrets, plays out like a prequel to that famous piece of classic horror literature..
I agree on Pearl and the Witch. Great modern films for sure. I Remeber being freaked out by Dark secret of Harvest Home from the late 70s. Highly recommended made for TV movie. I can't remember how much of a farm film, but I'm pretty sure it comes close
Can I recommend M Night Shyamalan’s “The Village” from 2004? I know I know, it’s not 100% horror. But it’s my favorite movie of all time. It has farmland, it’s a period piece (barns, lanterns, watch towers, Amish-style setting), has monsters, and has major fall vibes.
I wondered if The Dark Secret Of Harvest Home would be on here. Dark Night Of The Scarecrow is a great movie. I watch it every Halloween season. I saw it aired on TV when I was a kid. The Witch is one of my favorite horror movies.
Scarecrows really need a bigger showing in horror. They're practically perfect. The uncanny valley, the stalking reminiscent of the ever-present imminence of death, is just phenomenal potential.
Dark Night of the Scarecrow also shows how far networks would let movies go in the late 70s-early 80s. Throwing someone head first into a piece of farm equipment wouldn’t usually be what someone thinks of when they think “made for TV.” Of course, it may have started with plans for a theatrical run (abc and cbs both produced theatrical films at that time) and the network just backed out.
I discovered your channel a few months ago and I am very happy that I did. I have been a fan of this genre for a little over 50 years. I enjoy hearing your knowledge on the various titles that you feature. ALSO-your passion for the Hammer films really caused me to go back and rewatch some of the titles that I own (THANK YOU SO MUCH) Your personal story with "The Witch" had me thinking back to what really shook my spinal cord as a young boy (in my case it was " Trilogy of Terror" and The Exorcist) I remember watching the former on TV with my folks and my sister. It was quite terrifying at the time ,but now I have fond memories of the fright that I felt back then lol. I apologize for rambling- Thank you very much for all of your effort. Your channel is one that I very much look forward to watching on a regular basis !
Yaaasss The VVitch owns! As does Dark Night of the Scarecrow. X & Pearl set the bar so high for maXXXine; it has the potential to be a perfect trilogy. Anyways those are all my opinions. What an odd category! Can't get this stuff anywhere else 10/10 fricheks
The Dark and the Wicked, Charlie's Farm, and Slaughter House all great farm horror films. Love The Witch and Motel Hell is just a classic, maybe the best farm horror film ever! M Night Shyamalan to me is just so over rated. It's the same tired plot twist with everything he does. The only thing I liked that he did was Unbreakable and Old wasn't to bad. Every else is just blah.
"Blood on Satan's Claw" is my favorite among these but "The Witch" definitely matches it in tone if not in story. There's a movie from the '80s simply titled "Scarecrows" that, though a typical B movie of the times, had a moody vibe that elevated it for me; you might want to check it out. I'll definitely have to watch "The Red House" and "Deadly Blessing". And yes, "Color Out of Space" was very good.
I actually started that once, and was disappointed that it was really an action movie, and I didn’t finish it. But I need to go back to it with my expectations in check.
Rory Calhoun was the young lover in The Red House and the old farmer in Motel Hell. He also appeared in Hell Comes to Frogtown during which shoot he was terribly ill. He was a trooper.
Really great choices, dude! I've been enjoying your channel a lot. Nice to see Signs score so high on your list. It's one of my all-time favorite films. The music elevates it to another level. I think the script criticisms have some merit, but I agree that thematically it all makes sense and it works well. I totally agree about The Witch as well - really scary and so effective. Finally, I saw Dark Night of the Scarecrow with Joe Bob on the Last Drive-In, and I think it was the best movie he covered that season.
Not surprisingly, Australia has quite a few farm based horror movies. Not many I'd recommend though....😂 Check out 100 Bloody Acres, made by the same guys who did Late Night With The Devil. It's low budget, silly, farm fun.
Last year I watch violent night and thank God I cover my eyes for the scary part of the movie is the little girl teams up with Santa to save her family and it is so funking awesome and amazing and funny y'all ❤❤❤
My favorite Farmland horror movies are Children Of The Corn, Dark Night Of The Scarecrow, Colour Out Of Space, and Die Monster Die! Die Monster Die stars The One And Only Boris Karloff!!!
I absolutely love Dark Night of the Scarecrow. I actually think The Messengers is a pretty good film. Not fantastic but great atmosphere and a decent story.
Motel Hell is quickly becoming one of my favorite underrated horror. It's geniunely funny and completely wild if you go in blind, like my mom did when we watched it together.
I remember watching "Dark Knight of the Scarecrow" on TV as a kid and could not remember the name of the movie. I had been looking for that for a really long time so thank you a ton!
I love Children of the Corn, even though I get why other people might not. The cult fanaticism, how desolate it seems, the feeling you get that people are being spied on from within the corn which is EVERYWHERE! These things really speak to me.
Just the first minute or so of Halloween 4 carries the energy of this type of film. Also..if you happen to have an Urban Horror list or "cult horror".. Children of the Corn 3 comes to mind. ONLY because it has one of the most horrifying scenes that was burned into my mind at a young age when the Mary statue kills the priest.
I love your list. My favorite is the Red House with the great Edward G. Robinson and Rory Calhoun. Motel Hell with Rory Calhoun again. Love this cult classic. Rory was a heart throb in his day!! I like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974 also.
One of my favorite Farm Horror films is The Messengers, 2007, with a very young Kristin Stewart and Dylan McDermott. And, The Dark and the Wicked, 2020, which is eery as hell. The Witch absolutely should be #1!
Okay okay okay, someone got Much Too enthusiastic before airing on the side of caution... Perhaps making this a Top 13 would have served you better. _Critters_ is not my idea of A-Tier horror but it's better than Wes Craven's _Deadly Blessing._ And? Way more engaging and satisfying than _Deadly Blessing_ or DNOTS. I'm just gonna say it = _Leprechaun_ (1993) is underrated. Takes place on a farm or farm land. _Scarecrows_ 1988 is more than good enough to make the list.
Slash 2002, a slasher movie where a Rockstar, and his band go to his childhood farmhouse for the funeral of his aunt and run into a serial killer dressed as a scarecrow. The featured song in the movie is amazing.
Daniel, I've got two Lovecraft films that you might like: "The Call of Cthulhu" and "The Whisperer in Darkness", both available on home video from a website named the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society.
"Motel Hell" has been a favorite for many, many years. It's so off its head. There are some things here that don't make much sense, but overall it's just tons of fun.
Ok, Dark Night of the Scarecrow is the best one on this list, or of the ones I've seen. It still has one, if not the best ending of any horror movie out there and it was made for TV. I highly recommend it, if you haven't seen it. Children of the Corn, Signs and The Witch ALL were just awful!!! Hotel Hell was cheesey, but fun and I still want to see 'X", but haven't found it to watch yet.
There are reasons to include in this list The Wicker Man (I mean, of course the 1973 original). True, it does not involve farmland in the traditional American sense, but foundationally it is fundamental.
Friday the 13th, the Series had an episode ("Scarecrow") that fits this list like a glove. Easily one of the best and creepiest offerings from that show.
With the one-two punch of X/Pearl, props to Mia Goth for playing both the younger version of the character in the prequel, as well the older Pearl AND Maxine in X, the makeup for her in that one is truly transformative.
Can't believe Pumpkinhead didnt make the grade.
I forgot abut that one!!!
That movie scared me so bad as a kid 😂
Yeah, I was also disappointed that it wasn't on the list. I watched it last year for the first time and I absolutely loved it
I know right. Night of the living dead was another conspicuously absent
I like Warlock, i know it's not fully based on a farm but the scenes on it are great. Great video as always 😊💜🐾👍👋
The curse with Wil Wheaton should be number one on this list.
Underrated gem. I love that movie. It's actually a vague adaptation of Lovecraft's Colour Out of Space.
How about a top ten Paul Naschy werewolf movies
Honestly that’s a dream video for me. I just have to get access to all the movies, and I’m getting close!
Episode of Thriller 1960 The Hollow Watcher
Dark Night of the Scarecrow and Pumpkinhead reign supreme!
Blood on Satan's Claw is great. Kinda tempted by the 4k, though I wonder how much better it looks than the old Severin blu I have.
This 4K is my first release of it, because I missed the Severin one. Happy to finally own it!
Motel Hell is such a fun time!
I thought you were gonna include "The Curse" (1987) on this list but you included colour out of space which is pretty much a remake so that's perfect
. A long time ago i sent Rory Calhoun a SASE for an autograph & he returned it with a Brief UNSIGNED note saying he charged for his autograph 😊
Saw The Witch while I was high as a fucking kite. Not a great plan tbh.
😂😂😂 👍👍👍
Blood on Satan's Claw is so much better than The Witch, which is still good, but overrated.
brilliant list. not farm horror, but I hope you've seen A Dark Song. Many thanks.
The Devil and Daniel Webster (complete version) 1941
You can defeat the things with a water pistol and closing a door in their face. They're the furthest things from scary you could possibly get. Signs was terrible
No Critters??
MEAT'S MEAT - AND A MAN HAS TO EAT!
Where's The Bogey Man?
They're being lead by Issac, not Malichi.
Blood on Satan's claw is great folk horror what's creepy is its all kids
Two words: “The Other.”
Spoiler warning?!?! X
I found The Witch boring, slow and not scary at all. Even the witch in the woods to me just looked like the stereotypical movie witch. The end was just expected. I was very disappointed.
My buddy I saw the movie with in theaters agrees with you. 😂
You say "this movie" way too much. We know which movie you're talking about each time, lol.
And 15 just as ignorant it looks like…sooooo tired of the functionally illiterate.
@@6Haunted-Days Sorry to personally offend you with my writings on a screen. I will do better next time.
Scarecrows 1988 is great. Larry Drake killed it in Dark night of the scarecrow.
Larry Drake is amazing. Loved him in Dark Man and hell he just is amazingly funny in Dr Giggles. The dude Had some good range.
@@Cameroo Dr. Giggles is my favorite medical movie.
Larry Drake never gave a bad performance
“The Dark Secret of Harvest Home”. How is it not on this list? The best farmland horror ever.
Ive only seen The Witch once but i still say "Wouldst Thou Love to Live Deliciously" all the time.
Dark Night Of The Scarecrow is too low. Your first big mistake, IMO. 😉
I think a buddy of mine will say the same when he sees this. haha
There's a weird old movie called The Touch of Satan (1971) that takes place on a walnut farm that is pretty interesting. It's far from perfect but is definitely worthwhile.
My favorite part of Dark Night of the Scarecrow is the cut from the wood chipper to the cranberry sauce getting spooned onto a plate.
The VVitch is incredible. I was scared to watch it and then when I did it surpassed the hype. What an unsettling movie. And I loved seeing The Blood on Satan's Claws on your list. Awesome movie.

Uh, “Farm?” Depending on the movie, they’re “Folk Horror” and/or “Rural Horror.”
Dead Birds is an amazing movie taking place in a farm house, that nobody talks about.

The Other and Crowhaven Farm
Crowhaven Farm a classic for me. Love it.
I agree with that.

You really need to watch The Reflecting Skin. Odd and creepy framland horror.

CRITTERS
I’ve enjoyed Scarecrows (1988) although I don’t think it takes place on an actual farm.
I actually started that once, and was disappointed that it was really an action movie, and I didn’t finish it. But I need to go back to it with my expectations in check.

Wicked fun.

Night of the Scarecrow is an amazing movie. Fantastic acting too. You barely even see the Scarecrow in the movie too which makes it even scarier.
In children of the corn the kids were led by isaac not Malachai.
Scarecrows and Husk are two great films which I was surprised not to see on the list as they are based on farmland and a farm house.
Issac was the leader, Malachi was his muscle.
Not surprisingly, Australia has quite a few farm based horror movies. Not many I'd recommend though....😂

Pumpkinhead
Such good movies on this list!
PUMPKINHEAD
I love DNOTS, always root for Bubba. The Witch and Children of the Corn are really creepy movies ! xx
haha You gotta root for Bubba!
You need to watch The Other from 1972 if U havent already. And If You have I’m surprised it didnt make the list.
Haven't seen it, so thanks for the recommendation!
My favorite Farmland horror movies are Children Of The Corn, Dark Night Of The Scarecrow, Colour Out Of Space, and Die Monster Die! Die Monster Die stars The One And Only Boris Karloff!!!
Nice list! Die Monster Die is another Color Out of Space movie!

I remember watching "Dark Knight of the Scarecrow" on TV as a kid and could not remember the name of the movie. I had been looking for that for a really long time so thank you a ton!
Missing, Scarecrows is criminal, although 'Dark Night Of...' is decent...
what are your thoughts on Alice Sweet Alice? thank you boss
I still haven’t seen it! It’s been on my list for awhile, I gotta get on it.
Dark Secret of Harvest Home!!
I need to see it!
Great list of films. Here are a couple more that I really like:
Kingdom Of The Spiders (1977)
Silent Warnings (2002)
Scarecrows (1988)
It takes ALL kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent fritters...
I'm a huge Wes Craven fan.
_Pumpkinhead_ takes place in a whole community of farm land / farmers and outskirts-of-Desert-land... Or: Ranching. And that's a good horror movie. Better than _Dark Night of the Scarecrow._ (I wanted DNOTS to be good but it was a huge letdown.)
_Signs_ feels like cheating. _The Red House_ seems like a real classic horror type of film. Maybe Val Lewton adjacent. But, _Signs_ just doesn't cut it.
Also... this one is going to hurt = how is 1973's _The Wicker Man_ not eligible for this list? To cultivate crops, regardless of whether it's by the waterfront or seaside or oceanfront or a metered distance from water altogether, that is farming.
Wasn't _Summer of Fear_ on a farm? Way more engaging and satisfying than _Deadly Blessing_ or DNOTS.
I'm just gonna say it = _Leprechaun_ (1993) is underrated. Takes place on a farm or farm land.
_Scarecrows_ 1988 is more than good enough to make the list.

The Witch is awesome
Ghost Pirate and now Cobwebs. My new fav channel Daniel. Were tio alike on horror favs.
I'm gonna have to rewatch the witch just because you built it up so much! 😮
I'd swap out Signs for Let's Scare Jessica to Death.
