2015 chevy silverado 2500 6.6 duramax turbo diesel with a catalyst code p0420. Diagnosis and repair and show before and after flow indirect injector 9th fuel injector
THANK YOU for this video! Best one out there for actually replacing the hydrocarbon injector (9th injector) on an LML Duramax. My 2015 has 149K miles. It had been doing the Regen more often than usual, it was taking far longer to complete it, (like 1.5 hours on the highway), and eventually it kept going in & out of Regen mode for 2 weeks straight. Then it threw a Check Engine light, with code P0420. And would not Regen at all. So I replaced my injector last night, and your step by step procedure is excellent. The other videos I saw either skipped past many of the steps, or dragged out way too long. BTW, I bought my replacement injector on Amazon, for much less than any parts store or even Rock Auto. I got the Dorman P/N 904-436, with a 1 year warranty. It included the fuel line disconnect tool, which I couldn't get it to work. So I used the pick method shown in this video. It did fit perfectly, looked exactly like the OEM part, and once I got the truck warmed up on a 5 mile drive, the EGT's rose higher than they have in a year. And it went into Regen mode. So hopefully it will complete the Regen today, and I also hope the CEL/MIL indicator will turn off. I could clear the trouble code, but I am just curious to see if it will do that itself. I appreciate you taking the time to make this vid! Subbed. (PSA - I am 65 Y.O. and it did take me a few hours to do the job. Guys like Drew that are young & mechanics by trade do make it look easy, and can get these deals done faster than us old DIYers, lol).
Update - Next day, the regen completed in about 25 miles of driving. And the Check Engine light went off a short while later, so the P0420 Trouble Code cleared on it's own.
My autel and snap on triton pro both won’t let me actuate the injector unless the truck is not running so obviously I’m not getting any spray, what test are you doing on your scanner to make the test run while engines running ?
Usually I start the test key on engine off then start the engine with the test still running and it will spray. Usually it stays on until the truck is shut down.
Once the black piece is removed there is a white retainer in there. I usually use a small pick and break it out. The new injector comes with that white clip installed.
The replacement injector I bought, was the Dorman P/N 904-436. Cheaper on Amazon than any parts store, and included the special fuel line tool. But even with that, I couldn't get it to release, so I used my angle pick, like he shows in the video. Didn't have to break it out, just used it to lift the 4 little points open on the white retainer, and wiggled it apart.
The normal Operating Temperature of the cooling system? If so These duramax's from 01-16 (no experience with newer) like to be anywhere from 180 ish to 210. If towing it can get warmer than that.
Very likely , I’ve only ever seen it be the 9th injector with that code. But keep in mind doesn’t mean that’s what wrong could be many other components.
@@drewsshoplife I was having issues with the exhaust filter going into regen for about 2 weeks going in and out after being on highway it stopped shortly after engine light came on with P0420 code

Thanks just put a new one in today fixed my p0420 she makes heat now 20 min. soot level reset . great video ..

You should scan it for codes first.
When you turned the truck on after the install of new injector, did your “service emissions soon 165 miles till 65mph” come on in the DOC?
May I ask what the book time is on the 9th injector replacement? Just curious what real life to what the book says is.
Absolutely, per Mitchell on this truck (should be the same on all LML’s) is 1.2 hours

What’s another way to get the fuel line clamp off? The metal one got the black clip off but can’t seem to get the metal one off!

The 2017 is L5P, not LML. L5P is superior to LML in many ways.
2015 durmax 80k miles P0420 code is in. Same issue maybe....

Pulled the injector out and started truck didn't have any fuel spray or diesel dripping...
@@alexrb361 You have to commanded on with a scan tool to see if it even sprays
