I was born and raised in San Diego and Tony Gwynn was my idol. I met him once at an autograph signing and he was so welcoming and humble. RIP to an absolute legend, “Mr San Diego”.
Tony Gwynn, I remember my dad taking me to the Murph not knowing I was witnessing greatness. I love this city & I'm sure the fans do as well, I am hopeful that the Padres will get SD a ring one day & when we do im sure you'll be w/ us celebrating! Thanks for the memories Mr. Padre! #GOAT
Asa kid growing up in San Diego, T Gwynn highlights always bring me to tears. Dude was such a class act. Proud his son is here working with the Padres broadcast team continuing his legacy.
Being a Cubs fan I loved watching Tony Gwynn as a kid growing up. Don't get me wrong I love watching guys hitting home runs but I do miss guys like Tony Gwynn hitting for average.
As a Cubs fan, my sentiments exactly. Never showed up his competition. I don't have a bad thing to say about him. Sweetest swing I have ever seen. Best pure hitter ever.
Another player to be mentioned on all time greatest list. Rest in peace kind sir!!! I enjoyed watching you play!!! Always enjoyed hearing your interviews as well as commentary.
Thank you for turning me into a padre fan even in 2021, mr padre you are simply my hero for being such a fantastic person. Your contributions to san diego from what i hear are still felt today. We love you forever tony reast easy bud. You are simply the best friar to ever put on a uniform undisputed we will try and carry on your legacy forever.
Thank you Mr. padre for giving padres fans hope to win a World Series one day. While we lost in 1984 and 1998 now we have a great team and can finally win a championship is SD. Thank you #19 Anthony Gwynn. 🤎💛🤎💛
I often send a prayer to the sky often thanking Tony Gwynn for blessing us with his talents and his pro-social dedication to the youth of San Diego. Happy Birthday, "Mr. Padre", Anthony Keith Gwynn.
What's crazy is if you're not in San diego, the radio announcer, his son Tony Jr, looks and sounds *exactly* like him. It's freaky listening to his voice.
Forever our Tony... Forever Mr. Padre... Forever Mr. San Diego🏝... I'm proud to say my daughter was born on the 19 of the month... Born and raised in America's fines city 😉 San Diego CA!
T Bone, one and only, we miss you brother. The game will never see such a beautiful swing or pure substance ever again. If we do, God bless him. Mr Padre. What a pleasure to grow up watching you and my Padres play. Amen.
San Diego sports fans really haven’t had a lot to be proud of over the years but Gwynn is the exception. That was our dude and we’d take him over anyone else in the game. He means so much to our city and he is greatly missed. Once a year on his birthday the local sports radio station here devotes pretty much the entire day to listeners who can call in and share their Tony Gwynn stories. I shit you not, everyone who listens in will tear up and cry at some point. He was that special to us and we’re lucky to have his son as part of the team radio broadcast.
The best ever Mr Padre Mr San Diego it was an honor crossing the border to see him play,I am always talking to my kids about his batting tittles;gold gloves and role model he was and still is to mlb, thank you always Mr Padre Tony Gwynn #19
Played in two World Series though never got a chance to get a ring, one of the greatest hitters to ever step on the baseball fields, one heck of nice guy too, RIP Tony Gwynn
I once saw Tony at the old Tower Records in the college area around 1990. I was browsing the vinyl records and he came up next to me and grabbed a record. The cashier asked for an autograph and he kindly obliged. I watched him leave to see what kind of car he was driving, and saw him drive away in a small Dodge/Chrysler. He was a humble guy. I later learned that he was thrown out of that day’s game, for arguing a call with the umpire. He must’ve stopped at the record store on his way home. I can’t recall Tony being ejected from a game other than that one. Tony was always respectful, so I’m sure whatever the call was, it must’ve been a bad one.
They said you were more likely to see Tony get four hits than strikeout twice. I was a Padres season tickets holder from 1998-2001. Never saw him strikeout twice.
MORE PLEASE!!!!! More historic nuggets for the long time Padres fans, and those of this new Bring Back The Brown generation. How about some Complete Padres' Classic games? The continuous background music can be ditched on these highlight videos.
I worked at the Murph in high school back in the 80's. Used to finish my duties in record time just to watch Tony taking batting practice hours before warm-ups even started.
1st game at Yankees Stadium, hits one off the face of the upper deck. New Yorkers: "Holy shit! We knew he was a legend, batting well over .300 every year, but God Damn! Can we have him? We'll trade you someone else's farm system."
Right place, wrong time. Got .400 stolen from him in 1994, then World Series robbed in 1998 against one of the best rosters any sport has ever seen. Imagine Tony on today’s San Diego team - you get a plot for a superhero comic
Cancer robbed the game of a great hitting mind. Imagine what kind of hitters he could have coached through the years if he could have had the chance to impart the subtleties of being a great hitter: the film study, the work ethic, studying pitchers. The rest is natural abilities, but he worked himself into being great as much or more than any of his contemporaries.
He repressed our city with pride and dignity never receiving the respect he deserved because he decided to be a Padre for life. I still remember calling his name from the right field stands at Jack Murphy stadium. We would stare in aw as he took the field. We now have a great team and I hope they play with the same pride and dignity and stay humble and we will win a championship.
An all time great. I was gutted when he passed away. The world needs more Tony Gwynns.
Dude hit .394 in '94 with over 400 plate appearances and only struck out 19 times! Best contact hitter of all time imo!
don't forget those 8 batting titles too.
Gwynn was the Ty Cobb of the "Live Ball Era" in my estimation.⚾🇺🇸
@@MAlexanderZagorskiGreat hitter, and true gentleman.
I love watching Luis Arraez play- very similar plate approach as TG
I love watching Luis Arraez play- very similar plate approach as TG
I was born in San Diego 1979 , this man is the reason most of us are Padres Fans! Thank you Mr. Padre....#19 Anthony “Tony” Gwynn!
I was born in 1978 also die hard Padres fan!! Mr. Padre great memories..
Try hunting lol
Not only a fantastic player, but you couldn't find a nicer, down to earth guy.
I was born and raised in San Diego and Tony Gwynn was my idol. I met him once at an autograph signing and he was so welcoming and humble. RIP to an absolute legend, “Mr San Diego”.
In a nearly two decade period of a tainted game, this man and Griffey rose above the tide to eternal greatness.
Tony Gwynn,
I remember my dad taking me to the Murph not knowing I was witnessing greatness.

Tony Gwynn R.I.P. ! He was a good ⚾ -Player! I ❤️SD Padres Peter from 🇨🇭
A Great man one of the nicest person anybody could Meet. Played for the love of the game
Tony and Kirby were the best pure hitters in that generation. Both gone WAY too soon. RIP
Being a Cubs fan I loved watching Tony Gwynn as a kid growing up. Don't get me wrong I love watching guys hitting home runs but I do miss guys like Tony Gwynn hitting for average.

This man had arguably the best year of his career in 1997 at 37 years old. .372 BA, 220 hits, 49 doubles and 119 RBIs. Legend
One of the sweetest swings in baseball. 😀
Tony Gwynn faced Greg Maddux, Pedro Martinez and Tom Galvine a total of 323 times and only struck out 3 times.. let that sink in for a bit
But he never struck out against maddux
You nailed it.
Had OVER a 99% contact percentage. In-fucking-sane!
Thank you for turning me into a padre fan even in 2021, mr padre you are simply my hero for being such a fantastic person. Your contributions to san diego from what i hear are still felt today. From a Cubs fan, thank you, Mr. Tony Gwynn. Best pure hitter I have ever seen. Total class act. 💙

Just a magical time in Padres baseball. I'll never forget!
I think Gwynn is a good example of how modern analytics got it wrong. It’s not about getting on base- it’s about not striking out.
When you look up the definition of baseball ambassador, there's a picture of Tony Gwynn.
I often send a prayer to the sky often thanking Tony Gwynn for blessing us with his talents and his pro-social dedication to the youth of San Diego. Happy Birthday, "Mr. Padre", Anthony Keith Gwynn.
My favorite ever baseball player. A class act in all ways. A true hero.
What's crazy is if you're not in San diego, the radio announcer, his son Tony Jr, looks and sounds *exactly* like him. It's freaky listening to his voice.
its awesome listening to Gwynn Jr 👍🏼
Forever our Tony... Forever Mr. Padre... Forever Mr. San Diego🏝...

The heart of San Diego. This man has always been the smartest hitter in baseball and the most underrated player of all time.
San Diego sports fans really haven’t had a lot to be proud of over the years but Gwynn is the exception. That was our dude and we’d take him over anyone else in the game. Everybody lived in the moment no picture was needed tony a real legend #19
The best ever Mr Padre Mr San Diego it was an honor crossing the border to see him play,I am always talking to my kids about his batting tittles;gold gloves and role model he was and still is to mlb, thank you always Mr Padre Tony Gwynn #19
He made the game look soo easy with his effortless swing. RIP MR PADRE
The Padres GOAT!
O.K. For Ted Williams to say "Tony Gwynn" -That says it all !!!
I've never called him anything other than "The Great Tony Gwynn"
Baseball is all about getting on base and getting other people on base to home plate. This man knew this and did this exceptionally.
Feliz cumpleaños Mr. Padre, dónde quiera que estés! 👑👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
for Gwynn👍👍👍👍RIP brother.
I could watch this man for the rest of my life. Mr Padre
The ump that hugged Tony on his 3000th hit, Kerwin Danley, was his former teammate at SDSU.
Wow thanks for that awesome
Rip to Mr san diego....papa padre
Mr Padre forever #19
He slayed my dodgers...but to have seen him play I will always be grateful
Bonds and Gwynn are my two favorite hitters ever
Simply top 5 all time one of the best ever bar none .
Played in two World Series though never got a chance to get a ring, one of the greatest hitters to ever step on the baseball fields, one heck of nice guy too, RIP Tony Gwynn

Ya Mr padre God bless you Tony.
Loved TG! I miss going to jack Murphy. I mean Qualcomm to watch tony play! It's not the same without him!
Hope you win today Padres on Mother’s Day! 💛🤎

Gwynn rules the baseball game
So nostalgic
I worked at the Murph in high school back in the 80's. Used to finish my duties in record time just to watch Tony taking batting practice hours before warm-ups even started.
Tony Gwynn. Ted Williams. Put hitting into science
I was at his 2000 hit. Unexpected and I had no idea that night.
He could hit all over the field. Left, right, up the middle. You can’t do a shift with a hitter like that.
"2000 hits, congrats man, you know we gotta pick you off now" 1st baseman I hope.
Best hitter
Mr. PADRES
His home run in the World Series was straight out of 2k The Bigs
He was gone wayyyyy to soon 😔
Throwback Thursday on a Sunday
We love that😂😂😂
Mr. Padre
Toughest out in MLB history by a country mile.
Hitting was an art form to this dude......he used his bat like a tennis racket and would just serve the ball all over the yard
1st game at Yankees Stadium, hits one off the face of the upper deck.
New Yorkers: "Holy shit! We knew he was a legend, batting well over .300 every year, but God Damn! Can we have him? We'll trade you someone else's farm system."
Bases loaded 2 outs full count who would you want in that box? No thought needed
Tonys 3000th hit or McGuires Home run ball.....Which means more to us baseball fans
Favorite all time players Will Clark, Tony Gwynn and Eddie Murray. I wish baseball was still as exciting as it was watching them play.
Right place, wrong time. Got .400 stolen from him in 1994, then World Series robbed in 1998 against one of the best rosters any sport has ever seen. Imagine Tony on today’s San Diego team - you get a plot for a superhero comic
Or the best time. Every cities fan’s circled their calendars when the Padres were coming into town because of him. He hit everything.
Now they’re all swinging for the fences.
I am Phillies fan . We have Schwarber and Nick. I’ll take a Tony Gwen over over these two guys any day.👏🏾
Cancer robbed the game of a great hitting mind. Interviews w a batting helmet on.
I was born in Washington and I never heard of this guy
Only Joe DiMaggio had a better swing.
The show they put on for his 2000th hit was huge lol. Don’t think they’d take that long to celebrate in this day and age. 😂😂😂
Even Tony was like cmon let’s go 😂😂😂
Win for Gwynn
