I wonder if the Brewers bench coach Murphy who was with Counsell for 8 years was really the one calling the shots? Brewers look like their playing the same or better baseball, Counsell looks like a deer in headlights.
I am happy that Matt & Sam are staying with the Locked on Cubs podcast. Based on past history some former hosts would already have moved on to other things. The Cubs are still in the NL Wild Card race. I am not going to do some drastic things some Cubs fans are doing such as cancelling the Marquee Sports Network subscription. I remember watching the Cubs in the 1990s on WGN. I was without Marquee Sports Network for 2.5 years. I am happy that fans can subscribe directly to Marquee in market.
I knew even in April when they were winning a bunch and getting carried by suzuki, and Busch that things weren’t as they appeared. Only thing I’ve been pleased with is PCA getting playing time even with the minor results
I hear an awful lot of talk about injuries but nothing about the coaches who are responsible for making sure that the players are in shape and doing what they are supposed to be doing to keep from getting injured. All of these injuries are not merely coincidental. And attitude...who's responsible for instilling drive into this ballclub? I thought Counsil was responsible for building the fight into the club and making sure they don't succumb to the malaise that they are in.
Pat Murphy was the real manager of Brewers seen it before in the business world. Murphy called the shots and made Counsell look good. Because Brewers look the same or better. Counsell looks like he's lost in dugout.
I'm willing to give Counsell a mulligan for this season. He inherited last year's very flawed roster with few changes and even inherited the coaching staff. But he had better show up next season and be the genius everyone expects.
Going into the bottom 9 on Monday night I turned off the TV. I did not know who was going to pitch, but it didn't matter. Same script, different players, same outcome

Schwarber, yes. The Schwarbino should've never been shown the door. Rizzo? No. Love Rizz, but he looks cooked/finish. He had a head injury last year. Wasn't very good this year, when he got a broken arm, and is probably out for the season and Yankee-career over. Cubs could probably offer Rizzo a minor league deal in the offseason.
@@naturallawman2965 Really? Schwarber hit .188 with 11 HR, while striking out 36% of his AB's in his last year in Chicago. He was horrible in LF and there was no DH in the NL yet. They couldn't even deal him before the trade deadline.
They spent this money based on recommendations from Jed and his vision of the team, he has failed the team and should be let go. Maybe then the Cubs could get a team leader that knows what they are doing and how to develop minor league talent. Not to mention, who of the starting 8 do people want to pay to see, my view, not a single player is worthy of buying a ticket to watch. This is the most miserable collection of starting everyday talent I have seen on the Cubs in years.
Yet, the same people were screaming to sign Dansby, extend Happ and bring back Bellinger. Hendricks was good last year. Alzolay was solid. Neris was LIGHTS OUT! Leiter was good. No one saw a two month slump, by most of the team, to start the season. Hindsight is easy.
Ok but it's inexcusable to fail the way this team has failed and it's the players. Other than starting pitching they have no players that can be relied upon to get runners in from 3b with less than 2 outs. Counsell had them bunting and that has to be considered. Suzuki has to be the most overrated player on the team. Terrible outfielder and seems to one of main culprits with RISP.
They are underperforming but somewhere we adopted the attitude that hitting dingers is more important than hitting for avg. that’s what young players do because they are hungry and want what these veterans have. It seems to me that that is on Jed
Something the Cubs have always struggled there. Even when they had Ryno every year batting 2nd, they couldn't get consistent leadoff hitters. You'd get a couple of decent brief moments like Brian McRae or Dexter Fowler during the peak Maddon-era. But no long term solutions.

I was at last night’s game and nearly fell asleep. Boring team that has wasted so many great starts. The pen just outright sucks and the hitting died in late April and hasn’t looked good since. Big “stars” doing virtually nothing. Without the starters, this team would have about the same record as the Sox. Time to clean out the front office and start spending wisely instead of just throwing money at the problem. If this is the best product Jed and Carter can put on the field, they both need their walking papers.
Cubs need to sell and free up payroll and use the assets acquired and Farm to somehow land a young in prime positional star Player that can give this Team an identity, This current Cubs Team is a incredibly boring Team to watch and it has ZERO chance of getting thru Teams like the Phillies Braves, Dodger, Yankees, ect ect in a long series if they did somehow win enough to sneak into a wildcard.
The Marquee thing has been a disaster because of the C-19 & Bally's bankruptcy. On top of that Hulu and others are refusing to carry Marquee. On top of that Marquee's "on demand" app for Streaming is blacked out for Out-of-Market customers limiting ad-buy rates and commercial interest. They're screwed. There's a very good chance they'll look to cut payroll next season, at a time they really need to "spend their way out". Bottom line -- "Mr. Ricketts is going to have to take out his WinTrust Cubs Debit Card" -- to quote David Kaplan.
Love the show, everydayer here. Agree with a lot of what youre saying, but besides culture and some of the intangibles...it comes down to...can you hit the ball? Can you throw strikes at the end of the game? Can you stop walking in runs? Anyways, that's what I see going on a lot.

Yeah but that doesn't add up either. This is what Gordon Wittenmeyer was getting at. The Cubs failed to make the playoffs last year WITH a comeback Belli already on the team. By re-signing Belli, you're just maintaining what you already have AND FAILED WITH in 2023. They needed more. Look at J.D. Martinez. He's been the resurgent Mets. I just happened to look up payrolls like 5 days ago. The Cubs were the 8th highest payroll, I'm thinking. It has to be the GM. The Brew crew is 23rd in payroll Cubs fans. In case you guys didn't know, craig was not allowed to bring any of his brewer coaches over to the cubs' big mistake
Of course not. Brewers were LIVID he left. That'd be like shocking your wife with a divorce by moving in with her sister, then asking politely if you can take the sex tapes with you for the memories.
How can you mention San Diego and Arizona, based on what they showed they could do last year.........when AZ only beat out the Cubs by a game and the Padres finished BEHIND the Cubs? Not to mention both of those teams are are only 2 games ahead of the Cubs now? WC spots are wide open.
As angry as I've been the last 2 yrs. This is Baseball and Variance and Murphy's law seem to rule for this 2024 Cubs team. The 2025 Cubs are just as likely to have things swing the other direction and get the Goods from a couple of the Farm kids and the Core bounces back. I do feel they'll need to hit on some Free Agents and get some Bounce back seasons.
It's time to dismantle this team..release smyly, neris and brewer...give hidge, little and the other young guys some on the job training .trade bellingerand happ or suzuki...you might have to sweeten the deal with prospect and half the salary paid but the bottom line, they will be gone and you can reset the button. Morel needs to go too...try to get two young pitchers for more.
I love the Cubs to death but most of the players are checked out, nothing the starting pitchers do seem to matter, and we have a president who doesn't know how to recruit. Good thing I'm also a Tiger fan. The Tigers are worse but at least I already knew they were going to suck so the wins feel like a pleasant surprise. Whenever the Cubs win, I'm just anticipating a humiliating loss the next day and all hopes I had for this season are crushed. Cubs please prove me wrong and Tigers...let's just avoid last place.
I thought the experts were bullish about the Tigers' chances to compete in their division going into this season. The experts were also bullish about the Cubs' chances too-- so much for experts.
You gave Theo 5 years and Jed is only on year 2 of actually building the main roster. Theo came in and just started building. Jed had to tear it down first. I think everyone's expecting things to fast. You're right Sam, I hear all the time how Jed blew it with Happ and Bellinger..........after they were SCREAMING for them to get paid. We have, basically, the same roster that played so well in the first half of 2023. How you gonna blame Jed for those same players NOT performing?
Hey Tinman 👋, So by everyone YOU MEAN……. YOURSELF???? 🤔 🤔 🤔 You see here’s the thing…….. Back in April, you replied @ me 15+ times threatening me with “screenshots” 🧐 - I said the 2024 Cubs aren’t serious. - That the 2024 Cubs aren’t winning anything with Morel, Happ, Swanson, Bellinger - and that they flat out, aren’t a serious team. *YOU* (Whatever 😝 they just beat LAD in a series now didn’t they. 😝) *TO WHICH I SAID* -I couldn’t careless about a random regular season series win. And they’d get destroyed by any of ATL/PHIL/LAD in a 5-7 game playoff series. *Leading too* … -you just screenshot my comments - you’ll be back this October - because you *KNOW* that I’m wrong - and you love proving internet *know it alls* wrong. - and you’re gonna see if I’m man enough to show up in October and admit when I’m wrong. But here you are in late June….. Straight preaching in the comments…. “It’s only year 2” “Unfair expectations” “Everyone needs to be patient” Have a good one Tinman67tn 👋 (EDITED) - I see you still haven’t hired an editor yet
233 million not 1 superstar 😂 all second tier and third tier stars . Everybody wanted Cody back for what reason I don't know why . Ricketts family need to go ppl was sold on new tv deal was going bring all this money 😂 marquee brought in nothing. It's crazy cardinals can spend big money get stars. I didn't want Cody back on the team I kept saying in theses comments you cannot give Cody big contract off 1 good year I said trade for Soto but of course the cubs trade for Michael Busch 😂 instead of getting a superstar.
1) Fans rejected Marquee from the jump. While I’m not a fan of Boog in particular, I enjoy seeing games from decades ago and the features on Cubs legends. 2) the Cubs have outspent their division rivals by a wide margin…so spending itself is not the long term answer. My opinion? I love having the ability to spend big $$ on 1-2 players who can put them over the top while building the foundation on the farm system which needs to produce 1-2 parent club contributors each year. What they don’t need is what we have…overspending on mid level players like Dansby, Happ and Suzuki. Hoerner is a notch lower on the spending list but he and the others are simply not performing to their pay grade. You can throw Bellinger in there as well. We have a fan base that apparently thinks spending is the be all, end all. It isn’t. Crying that Ricketts is cheap every time this group plays like garbage is lazy and thoughtless, IMO.
I went to the game tonight, i am watching the show while charging in my tesla, we were up 4-0 and 4-2 in the 9th, but the fucking bullpen snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory. Ad a fan in California im done with this team
First half was similar last year in a way, but it seems like second and short are auto this year. That's a major problem even if the Braves saw it with Swanson
This has to be the worst team I've ever seen with men on third less than two out. They either hit a weak ground ball and get lucky or strike out. It's such a bad approach and I don't understand it from professional hitters.
Say this about the Cubs, we know from the last 2-3 years that this group of players will get hot in the 2nd half. Take a look at some of the schedule setups the Cubs are going to get in the 2nd half. 8/16/24 - 9/4/24 (18 games) - VS TOR X3 - VS DET X3 - @ MIA X3 - @ PITT X3 - @ WASH X3 - VS PITT X3 That’s a real chance at 6 straight series wins and a 12-6 maybe even 13-5 record. But there’s more…. 9/13/24 - 9/29/24 (16 games) - @ COL X3 - VS OAK X3 - VS WASH X4 - @ PHIL X3 - VS CINN X3 Another great chance to win 4/5 series and go 10-6. The Cubs will have every opportunity in the world to finish their last 40 games anywhere from 24-16 to 26-14. So all they need to do is right the ship. Be somewhere around .500 heading into the last 40 game stretch…and sprint to the finish winning around 84-86 games. I would almost guarantee you it happens.
You're delusional. And you're leaving out the certain-loss series like the Phillies, Dodgers, Yankees, Orioles, Indians, and Royals. And they haven't shown they can beat anybody in their division. Also, people were saying how this most recent stretch was against weak competition, and they got their brains beat in.
If the Cubs sell off any of their top prospects to add to this collection of less than mediocre everyday players I’m done with them. They have a player at every single position in the minors that could be the eventual replacement for the garbage they have as position players that includes the garbage they have on the bench excluding PCA, Busch, and Tauchman. Tauchman seems like the only veteran who truly wants to win and bust his ass, PCA and Busch are young players who may or may not develop into nice players.
They pick up anyone on the scrap heap, one of best starting staffs, soon they'll have there starters who'll say F it,there players are happy to just get a paycheck,an Council can only do what he's given,an he shifts players, works for one game, then 2 or 3 losses, there coaching staff doesn't coach hitting, why don't hitters open up more at the plate,is 220 team batting average good, coaching, relief pitching socks coaching, this team doesn't have the eye of the tiger, will check back in 3 weeks
I mean let’s be real here. If the Cubs played in any other division, they’d be a bottom 5 team in all of MLB. And if we are being honest , since getting beat 17-0, the Cubs have been the 3rd or 4th worst team in MLB behind CHW and COL.
The Cubs have definitely underperformed this season so far, but a strong 2nd half will still get us in the playoffs and I'm glad Jed hasn't overpaid for any early season trades. Now is the time to solidify the bullpen and maybe add a big bat.
Doubt I'll tune in to west coast game tonite. I want to take the week off. Only watch Locked on Cubs, not any games at all. Despite my self-proclaimed apathy for this AA team right now, I can't seem to look away. Need some therapy. Or an antidote....
I would hate to be the next POBO inheriting this mess. I doubt anyone can buy their way out, and it's going to be so bad if this is our roster the next couple of seasons.
Cubs blow cut who you can cut bring up the rookies ,this team is going nowhere nomatter what anyone says .I said it in the beginning of the yr they were going go win76 games if that.
NOTE: This episode was recorded Monday afternoon. We will return to game coverage following Cubs/Giants on Tuesday night

You mean like when they won 17 of 26 games to start the season?
It's time to dismantle this team..release smyly, neris and brewer...give hidge, little and the other young guys some on the job training .trade bellingerand happ or suzuki...you might have to sweeten the deal with prospect and half the salary paid but the bottom line, they will be gone and you can reset the button. Morel needs to go too...try to get two young pitchers for more.
Bench Suzuki because he just looks lost up there bring up Casey
Because he hired a robot to manage them.
@@nigelward5494 How's "the best manager in the game" doing?
Hey Tinman 👋,
So by everyone YOU MEAN…….
YOURSELF???? 🤔 🤔 🤔
You see here’s the thing……..
Back in April, you replied @ me 15+ times threatening me with “screenshots” 🧐
- I said the 2024 Cubs aren’t serious.
- That the 2024 Cubs aren’t winning anything
with Morel, Happ, Swanson, Bellinger
- and that they flat out, aren’t a serious team.
*YOU*
(Whatever 😝 they just beat LAD in a series now didn’t they. 😝)
*TO WHICH I SAID*
-I couldn’t careless about a random regular season series win. And they’d get destroyed by any of ATL/PHIL/LAD in a 5-7 game playoff series.
*Leading too* …
-you just screenshot my comments
- you’ll be back this October
- because you *KNOW* that I’m wrong
- and you love proving internet
*know it alls* wrong.
- and you’re gonna see if I’m man enough to show up in October and admit when I’m wrong.
But here you are in late June…..
Straight preaching in the comments….
“It’s only year 2”
“Unfair expectations”
“Everyone needs to be patient”
Have a good one Tinman67tn
👋
(EDITED) - I see you still haven’t hired an editor yet
Would rather have Jed Clammpet on Beverly Hillbillies as GM Jed is strong and kind and has common sense I'll take my chances with him
The Brewers are terrible with runners in scoring position and they still win. Was Counsil the difference in Milwaukee? Doesn't seem like it
Since when is 6th in MLB terrible?
This team sucks, guys. Big sad over here. Big sad.
Disappointment this yr.
Cody is our best player regardless imagine we didn’t have him 😂😂
Cody didn't get a big contract.
@@joecasey1329watch we have a good 2025 season and everyone will be happy again, oh Cub fans lol
I went to the game tonight, i am watching the show while charging in my tesla, we were up 4-0 and 4-2 in the 9th, but the fucking bullpen snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory.
Ad a fan in California im done with this team
Anything below
The cubs haven't had a consistent lineup this year. I think this is actually a big deal.
8/16/24 - 9/4/24 (18 games)
- VS TOR X3
- VS DET X3
- @ MIA X3
- @ PITT X3
- @ WASH X3
- VS PITT X3
That’s a real chance at 6 straight series wins and a 12-6 maybe even 13-5 record.
But there’s more….
9/13/24 - 9/29/24 (16 games)
- @ COL X3
- VS OAK X3
- VS WASH X4
- @ PHIL X3
- VS CINN X3
Another great chance to win 4/5 series and go 10-6.
@@DionysusAlS sorry I didn’t get all that , what you were saying???
Cubs lost again, couldn't hold a two run lead going into the bottom of the 9th.. #FlyTheL
40-37 Redbirds!!!
26 consecutive saves!!!!
Cubs could bat better with hardly any payroll. You don't have to pay any infielder much to field
I mean let’s be real here.
If the Cubs played in any other division, they’d be a bottom 5 team in all of MLB.
And if we are being honest , since getting beat 17-0, the Cubs have been the 3rd or 4th worst team in MLB behind CHW and COL.
He’s has let the team down and it fans. He should not be allowed to sell peanuts at the park. We fired Ross for this. Swanson is a joke.
Sorry fellas!! They won't win 50 games, I hope I'm wrong, but, I don't see it!!🧐😬🤨
Time to put Jed to bed nighty night bye bye!
Jed’s time has come and now he should be gone! Make Ross the new GM he could not do any worse!
The Cubs have definitely underperformed this season so far, but a strong 2nd half will still get us in the playoffs and I'm glad Jed hasn't overpaid for any early season trades. Now is the time to solidify the bullpen and maybe add a big bat.
Delusional
Throw in the flag, I'm done. See you guys next season.
This team will finish with below 78 wins.Way below.I see 71 to 74 wins tops. This is a bad team.
The Chicago scrubs, not the Chicago Cubs. If you want sadness root for them😅
Cubs lose another late game collapse after being up 4-2 in the 8th.
Tom ricketts will never spend money again he doesn't not know ball
Bellinger will want to be traded to the Yankees and go to the World Series! All we would want IS TO GET RIZZO BACK!
Rizzo's done. 60-day IL as of 6/18/24.
@@naturallawman2965
We want Rizzo back! He rules the boys!
Tough as nails!
Fire hoyer
If tom ricketts is not Cheap why he is not spend money for real talent players 😂
Cubs are lackluster
need better power
👍
Doubt I'll tune in to west coast game tonite. I want to take the week off. Only watch Locked on Cubs, not any games at all.
Despite my self-proclaimed apathy for this AA team right now, I can't seem to look away. Need some therapy. Or an antidote....
Who would want to go to the playoffs with this team? They would be embarrassed! 😮
I would hate to be the next POBO inheriting this mess. I doubt anyone can buy their way out, and it's going to be so bad if this is our roster the next couple of seasons.
SOS...8 or 9 game win streak required to steady ship...'nuff said.
It's a rebuilding year, we will get a great draft pick. Then our worries will be over.
Get rid of Jed he’s a bum
We need pete Alonso
They have an overrated manager.
Cubs blow cut who you can cut bring up the rookies ,this team is going nowhere nomatter what anyone says .I said it in the beginning of the yr they were going go win76 games if that.
