    Just got my 1st halibut from the surf in Santa Monica. Only 18” on a yo-zuri sardine pattern jerkbait. Inhaled it. Turned the beach into a MASH unit, but he swam off strong. Sooooooo much fun. Love these videos man.

    love your vids, have always been a fan of you , i have always tried catching halibut on my lucky craft but it doesnt dive down alot so its pretty hard but i have never stopped trying because of you, started using some different techniques.

      Bro that’s so awesome to hear and it means a lot you took the time to express that. The 115 is a good option but it depends on how deep the hole your fishing is.
      One very solid yet subtle change is slowing the retrieve till you can barely feel the resistance of the lure. As long as the 110 is about a foot or less off the bottom the halibut should be able to go up and eat it!
      Thanks again for the thoughtful and complimentary comment

      Go with sinking Daiwa Sp minnows in the lazor sardine color for the Halibut. they run 10 bucks or less. The sinking will put you on the bottom and it rides a foot off when retrieved. the SP minnow is a bigger lure so you get less small perch but your targeting halibut. The Sp minnows have stronger hooks better split rings and also cast way better. Lucky crafts in the wind are a bitch to cast, there just to light.

    I've actually heard/ experienced that if you go straight braid, braid tends to slip more. I've lost many LCs like that and my knots were not questionable. Idk though I'm probably doing something else wrong lol

    • @76mitch76
      @76mitch76 3 роки тому

      As long as you put your braid on top of a mono or flouro backer, and get it wet pre cast you'll have no slip.

    For the halibut you should try working a sinking Daiwa SP minnows in the lazor sardine color. The Lucky craft are expensive like 22 bucks or more and the Daiwa SP minnows are less than 10 bucks. The SP minnows have stronger hooks and split rings and the paint jobs hold up better as well. The Sp minnows cast way better and swim really nice if you put them on a clip like a figure 8 cross lock clip.. This is working well and a nice day but i noticed how you got pumped on the 21 inch Halibut. WE catch Halibut upwards of 20 lbs from the surf on the Sp minnows but many have not seen them since they just came around in 2014 .

    • @Hook2Cook
      @Hook2Cook  5 років тому

      That sounds like a real winner for the sinking version! Definitely going to look out for those

    • @jasonmachula1472
      @jasonmachula1472 2 роки тому

      Do you need weight for the sinking? or do you still do a drop shot or something? Maybe a floating minnow with a drop shot?

    • @Hook2Cook
      @Hook2Cook  5 років тому +1

      N E I was really into bass fishing and couldn’t get over how comfy and efficient baitcasters are. When casting, there’s a lot less slack to reel up to connect to the bait. So far, I love the z3 reel.

      Daiwa Sp Minnows are less than 1/2 the price and are lethal on halibut. The Lucky craft work good on perch but they are to expensive for perch. A simple knock off kastmaster spoon will catch a load of those barred perch just as fast. The Generic KAstmaster run like .99 cents to 2 bucks a piece
