Lisa Gerrard - The Wind That Shakes The Barley
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 жов 2015
She sings so beautifully.. it is captivating to the soul

Great performance in Belgrade yesterday
I sat within the valley green
I sat me with my true love.
My sad heart strove the two between
The old love and the new love.
The old for her the new
That made me think on Ireland dearly.
While the soft wind blew down the glade
and shook the golden barley.
'Twas hard the woeful words to frame
To break the ties that bound us.
But harder still to bear the shame
of foreign chains around us.
And so I said the mountain glen
I'll meet at morning early.
And I'll join the bold united men
While soft winds shook the barley.
'Twas sad I kissed away her tears
My fond arm round her flinging.
When a foe, man's shot burst on our ears
From out the wild woods ringing.
A bullet pierced my true love's side
In life's young spring so early.
And on my breast in blood she died
While soft winds shook the barley.
But blood for blood without remorse
I've ta'en at oulart hollow.
I've lain my true love's clay like corpse
Where I full soon must follow.
Around her grave I've wandered drear
Noon, night, and morning early.
With breaking heart when e'er I hear
The wind that shakes the barley.
Go hiontach
I was fortunate to have gone to a Dead Can Dance performance in Miami, FL 1996. The entire performance was/is the most moving shows I was lucky to have been a part of. Listening to all of my favs from Saltarello to The Wind that Shakes the Barley live is still amazingly vivid in my memories n experiences.
I was also fortunate to have step to an alley b4 the show began to smoke a cigarette & lie n behold the band was in the alley smoking b4 the show. I had the chance to chat with Brendan n band but Lisa was not there at that alley moment.
i have seen this song performed in New York, Chicago and Belgrade. Totally amazing each time!
same, in Minneapolis, MN. remember the percussionist jumping around looking like Animal from the Muppets? i managed to come within feet of her after the show as they were greeting the crowd. i was so in awe & in love i had no idea what to say or do, she seemed supernatural
Still gives me goosebumps
I legit cried watching the film
I get chills every time that I hear this.
And tears.
This version moves me like no other
Flawless remdition.
The definitive version of this song. All others are compared to this.
"The road to freedom is paved with suffering, hardships and torture; carry on my gallant and brave comrades until that certain day"
- Tom Williams
This sends shivers down my spine
Hairs stand on end. Bravo

Oh my...my my myyyyy my God.
I see you've met Lisa.
The mounds of barley were where soldiers had died. They carried barley cakes in their pockets and the grains sprouted.
🙏
I love this song!
I would give anything to be able to sing this song even 1/10 as well. What talent!

4th disciple brought me here....WU TANG FOREVER
I am always and forever for a united Ireland.
Somehow, I don't think many people in the U.S. understand what that song is truly about.
I live in the US. I understand it well. I can feel the pain and suffering of the Irish. I'm Irish American. I agree though. Most people have no idea
Molly R. Goates Irish-American as well,
This song evokes a strong feeling in me,
I hope I live to see a United and free Ireland
@@mollyr.goates8097 Indeed. The brutal oppression the Irish suffered at the hands of the English, was a terrible thing. Even today there still exists a lot of bigotry and hatred. Then, to make it worse, after all those years of violence, hatred and oppression, there is a generation that knows nothing but violence and are violent. Not all of them, but too many.
Wow! She's gonna make me cry!!!

Fantastic. Nothing but Love

im wondering if anyone to help me if they know alot about irish folk music. A few years ago i found this song on youtube of a male singer i have never heard of and his name was not in the description but all i can tell you is that the picture for the youtube video was of an old IRA poster from the 70's/80's (i think) and he was pointing an arma-lite gun towards the right and the background was red withe the title word at the top that said "resistance". i know its abit of a random thing to ask but i have know choice now but to ask the youtube public if anyone could send me in the right direction, i've literally been pulling my hair out for ages now searching the internet to find but i cant. Please some one help!.
Kindest Regards,
Jake.

Word
Mike Brown ,I want your problems...
So many people think blacks have SUCH a noble reason to sing the blues, but the Irish have every bit of a reason to sing of the race & country being shat on by England, the U.S. and even Australis. Slaves, at least were kept in relatively good health, fed & sheltered. Irish cost nothing & easily replaced. These people truly know suffering!
Best version ever. From a master.
